I kissed my best friend. The mistletoe made me do it…
Now I can’t get her out of my head.
I never intended to kiss my completely off-limits best friend.
But I couldn’t break the Christmas tradition—that’s bad luck!
Now there’s a blush on her cheeks, a glow that won’t fade.
I can’t stop staring. There’s a similar warmth inside me.
We’d be down the aisle if my meddling grandmother had her way. Hence the strategically placed mistletoe...
Except my best friend is like a sister to me. She knows way too much. And apparently, I’m destined to screw up every relationship I’ve ever had.
She’ll never take me seriously. I barely take myself seriously.
And considering my family is the only one she’s got, it’s way too risky to explore whatever this feeling is.
Or is it?
Pining for My Best Friend is a sweet and swoony small-town romantic comedy with plenty of sizzle while keeping the bedroom door closed. It’s the fourth standalone story in Kristine W. Joy’s debut romcom series.

I really REALLY wanted to had liked this book but unfortunately I didn’t…
Since I found about this one I knew I’d read as soon as possible because I’m a sucker for best friends to lovers but this didn’t give me the buzz I always get with the trope.
On the first 2 chapters they mention “best friend” so many times I lost count. I get it. They’re best friends. But it’d be better to SHOW me how they are best friends instead of mentioning every single opportunity and telling me about how close they are. Let me SEE how that relationship is!
One of the main reasons I didn’t enjoy this one is because it bothered me so much how childish they both were. And not saying that because they’re both sunshiney characters, because I love that! But if this book was a teenage romance I might’ve enjoyed it more because I’d understand their behavior as fitting for their age.
This is a smaller thing but I wished we had more of Spencer’s parents now and then, and also getting their advice about the whole situation instead of just putting the grandma in every single chapter, and almost putting her as the only relative that could see they cared for each other.
I have more small things that didn’t please me but I don’t think it’s worth mentioning.
Still, I had a fun time with the family scenes and their dynamic and constant banter.
A return to the town that the White family developed in the Colorado mountains. This is a fun series, but a lot more fun if read in order so the ongoing jokes and jabs make more sense. It is primarily a Christmas story filled with friends, family, and love. Lots of sage advice and positive vibes throughout the book. Wonderful characters and a wise matriarch who makes the story special. However, I felt it was more of a telling the surface of the story book, rather than making it a real conflicts and deep problem solving story. It was still delightful with a breathtaking scene on Christmas morning involving a winter wonderland and sleigh ride. It certainly puts you in the mood to prepare for Christmas and start baking goodies to share! And it makes you wish for a Nana in your life!
This story was cute, but hard. It certainly emphasized the difficulties these friends had shifting their friendship to something more. I felt like their relationship took a pretty big leap at the end and missed some development. The grandma/grandchild relationships are sweet, and it's a good Christmas novel.
I have been waiting for this book since the first time Spencer and Lilly were on the page together and the wait was totally worth it. This book offers a wonderful blend of angst - as both Lilly and Spencer come to the realization that best friends can be everything to each other if they are willing take the risk, and that is what drives this book - and the family fun and hijinks that make ever book in the Whitfolk Series make you want to move to this quirky and loveable town. HEY there are still some White brothers left that haven't paired up yet...
Each of these books is a clean romance and stand alone self contained HEA that they can be read in any order; however, as with all great series, reading these in order will help create the ambiance and tension between Lilly and Spence that makes you feel like a member of the White family. And when it comes to getting the group of siblings together knowing a bit of their backstory will help you relate to their interactions and smile a little bit wider, but if you are new no-worries, everything you need to follow the story is in this one book.
Best friends since they first met, Spencer and Lilly have supported each other as they grew as individuals and didn't even realize how they matured and how their lives intertwined so completely. Cue the arrival of Spencer's Nana -- a total mavin and scene stealer - who like the reader -- immediately sees what both Lilly and Spencer are two scared to admit, that without realizing their friendship has transformed into the most intense and True Love of equals who know each others flaws and shortcomings and still can't imagine a day without being together and sharing their world. And once they do understand this, the face the fear that taking the leap may change their relationship and is that worth the risk? But what more can anyone ask for than to find love with your best friend. Along the way you'll find snowball fights, sleigh rides, the cameo return of favorites from earlier books and all the new 'little' additions to the family that make Christmas the best day of the year. Of course, with Spencer in the book you will have the Ski Bunny Hookup that really wakes him up... but it's Spencer so what else would you expect. All of which will keep you up late at night reading
A fun read from cover to cover, you know where the book is going, but like any great trip down the Vermont Mountains... you'll enjoy the ride up on the lift, laugh with the thrill of racing down the mountain, worry if will these two little skis get you down safely, and bask in the warmth of the Loge's fire with a cocoa and great company.

Nana was so mischievous! I loved Lily's relationship w/ Nana. It was the sweetest. The baking was amazing🍪!
Spencer was even giving me a whiplash w/his emotions... But it's one of the risks of best friends to lovers trope.
I loved the karaoke 🎤 you could see their chemistry. Lol he deserved it in the pie scene. Spencer was so confused. Therefore, he made things so confusing. That dinner scene was 🤦🏻♀️.
I love that he finally listened to Nana & respected Lily. He opened up a little bit of what was going on inside his head. He was honest, & so was Lily. Yes, small assumptions were made, but it kind of served for a greater good.
I loved this two matching up. The date was the cutest. The almost kiss at the Inn 🔥🥺📖.
I love the big family message behind this book. It was so precious. I love how the White's & especially Nana, took Lily in as family. I loved Nana's gift🥺.
Okay, so I only had one thing. I wished they would have talked about things a little bit more. I just felt they missed clearing things up & talking about those fears. I felt they ignored it & dived into the relationship. Like a small gap. I know they were best friends, but maybe the jump from friends to lovers was a little bit rushed to me. This trope's one of the plots I'm most wary about, so maybe that could be too.
It was cute, don't get me wrong! But I wanted a little bit more of communication. Once I made peace w/ the pace of the last chapters, everything that came afterwards was actually good. Spencer's gift card for Lily was precious. His surprise was really sweet 🧁. I loved seeing past couples around & thriving! It made my heart feel warm & cozy. That epilogue!! It had my heart all over the place 🥺💞.
I can't wait to see what happens w/ Simon!
⚠️TW: mention of loss; death of family members.
🍁 * I was kindly gifted an ARC from the author. This doesn't influence in any form my review/opinion of the book*
– this is part of a series, but can be read as a stand-alone
– this is told from Lily & Spencer’s points of view
Review:
This might just be my newest favorite Whitfolk couple! I loved Lily and Spencer so much as friends and as a couple! I loved the addition of Nana and how she brought out a bit of a different side to the White siblings (well, she and her cannolis). I also really liked her banter with everyone, as well as her attempts to match Spencer and Lily together. I loved to see a bit more of our past couples in this story and I’m curious to see which White brother is next! Some of my favorite scenes from this story included: a pie fight, snowball fights, snowboarding, Christmas morning, their date, Lily & Nana’s talks/baking times, Nana’s gift(s), and the White siblings trying to snatch treats.
Summary:
The holidays are hard for Lily since she has no family left to call her own. So when she connects with Spencer’s Nana and is offered to stay and help her, Lily jumps at the chance to have a family-like atmosphere and possibly learn some embarrassing stories from Spencer’s childhood. What Lily didn’t count on, was for Nana to try and get her together with her best friend, as a couple. Lily doesn’t think of Spencer like that. Even if she did, she couldn’t risk losing his friendship and the family she’s found in the Whites. But as Spencer spends more time with a girl from the slopes, Lily can’t deny that she feels something about that…
Spencer lives, laughs, and loves, but not the way his Nana has been hinting that he should love Lily. He’d rather have a fling with girls and have them know his funny, flirty self. Lily knows too many of his flaws and his true self beneath the jokes. But when his Nana manages to get them under the mistletoe, Spencer isn’t about to break tradition, no matter who had ended up there with him. Now he just has to figure out what to do with the feelings that came from it…
The Thin Line Between Love and Friendship - Spencer and Lily were best friend’s who virtually knew everything about each other and Spencer’s family treated her as one of their family members. However, their relationship seemed to change after Lily moved in with Spencer’s grandmother, who kept putting them together in situations that would help them realise their budding attraction towards each other.
Unfortunately, Lily and Spencer’s relationship hit a bumpy road because of a jealous individual and his fear of losing Lily. His conversation his grandmother and Lily distancing herself from him, gave him the push he needed to fight for what he wanted. Their chemistry felt so natural because of their bond of friendship and the support of their family made their relationship seem so seamless.
This was a fantastic read, that kept me hooked on the story from the start, and the up’s and down’s of their relationship, made me feel like I was riding a rollercoaster. However, I was truly elated when they got their HEA. It was a thoroughly enjoyable read, that deserves to be shared with everyone.

Another great story line in the Sweet Small Town Romance series! This story follows Spencer, the ladies’ man, pilot, grandma loving brother in the White family. Spencer is known for his revolving door of ladies and lack of commitment in relationships, but things are about to change when it comes to his relationship with his best friend Lily. She has been an honorary member of the White family for so many years and really the Whites are the only family Lily has, so questioning their relationship to possibly being more than just friends comes with great risk. I adored this story line and its sweet holiday flair mixed throughout. If you love adoring and meddling grandmothers, mistletoe kisses, food fights, holiday baking, karaoke moments, grand first dates, closed door romances, and family ornaments this is the perfect read for you!
Thank you, Kristine, for my free ebook. It was not expected for me to leave positive feedback. The opinions are 100% my own.
As somebody who had a memorable Nana of my own, I wanted to like this book, and on the whole it was enjoyable, even if I felt like the hero and heroine only really fell in love because Nana told them to. But there is way too much alcohol consumption in this book. Nana is putting booze in everybody's coffee, the hero downs three drinks in a row after his date storms out of a family dinner, etc. But what really got me was the karaoke scene. The hero says he isn't drunk enough to sing yet and drinks more, the heroine has a Jell-O shot in addition to her drink to help her deal with her feelings, etc. I don't drink, but I am used to seeing it in books, and if everybody had just walked home after karaoke night, it wouldn't have mattered. But the book mentions that the heroine drove herself home, and it appears that at least some of the White brothers drove themselves home as well, and that is irresponsible.

This book has so much angst that it was just oozing off the pages. Lily and Spencer have been best friends for many years. They have only ever been best friends, despite the fact that Lily is in love with him, but will never say anything. She soldiers on with each girl he takes home and tells her about and flirts with in front of her. And he is hiding his heart and refusing to admit that he has feeling as well. He covers it by dating women he knows he'll never end up with and cue Nana, Spencer's grandma who sees what they can't.
Cue her forcing them together over the holiday season and cue more angst with Spencer being dumb and bringing a girl he knows Lily can't stand to dinner and cues some really immature and petty behavior on both sides (but honestly understandable given the situation), but in the end it features one of the most romantic endings and HEAs I've ever read in one of these stories.
Christmas. 🎄 Friends to Lovers 😁 Meddling Grandma. Small town. Pilot love interest. Family traditions. Lots of baking. Dual POV. Nana is a hoot! I love a funny Grandma. Spencer and Lily are 🤌🏻 So wonderful. I loved watching them slowly realize their feelings for each other. They're both a bit oblivious. Fantastic story 💙
💕RCRS: 3 heavier kissing
🗨 Some Quotes: Lily gives me some side- eye. After a few moments, I realize I’ve been quietly staring at her long lashes and sparkling gold hazel eyes. Dang. Lily’s looking like a snack today.
“Let’s get some sleep. Tomorrow, we’re going to be busier than a mosquito on a nude beach!”
But I do know one thing; I just kissed my best friend. And it feels so right— and so wrong— all at the same time. I’m not sure I realize the weight of what I’ve just done.
I was so excited to go back to Whitfolk with the White family! Spencer and Lily’s story is one to remember! This story had me feeling all the feels! First, it is set during the holidays, and I’m a sucker for anything Christmas!! Then, you add in a sweet Nana, and I’m transported back to holidays with my Oma. She was such a pivotal part of this story…I loved her character! I got to know Spencer in the previous book of this series, and I was so thankful to get to see this side of him. The baking, sleigh ride, family get togethers, traditions, and banter back and forth…I could keep going! This was a fabulous read to have going on while decorating my house this weekend. I definitely recommend this to anyone who loves holiday reads, HEA, quick reads, and good clean reading fun!
Do you need a little JOY in your life? Look no further than Kristine W. Joy’s newest book, “Pining For My Best Friend: A Sweet Small Town Romance”. We learn more about Lily and Spencer and their “friendship”. They have been best friends for years, but it takes a visit from Nana to help move things along. This was the perfect book to get me in the Christmas spirit! This is the fourth book in the series. It can be read as a stand alone, but you will WANT to read all of the books in this series. I can’t wait for the next one! This book has the right amount of spice and romance, without crossing the line. Many thanks to the author for a complimentary copy of the book. The opinions expressed in this review are entirely my own.
Well what can I say except superb again. I love going back to Whitfolk everytime it never let's me down. It's the sort of place I'd love to live. The Whites are a very relatable family Lily and Spencer's story is so perfect. I dont like to give spoilers about the characters but these two have so belonged together throughout previous books, it was nice to finally get the ending we all wanted. A story of friendship family love and heartbreak all wrapped up in a great christmas story. I was lucky to get an ARC of the book so this is my honest and personal view of the book. I hope Simon is next in line. Thanks Kristine for another great read
I loved that Lily and Spencer didn't allow for miscommunication to be the order of the day after their first kiss. It was understandable why Lily was reluctant to give in to the possibility of something more between her and Spencer, but she was willing to give it a try.
Nana was the cheekiest matchmaker with a subtlety to her that rivaled that of a bull in a china shop 😂 Even so, she was just the sweetest by making sure Lily always felt included even if she wouldn't reveal her secret cannoli recipe 😂 I liked it! 😊
Thank you to the author for sending me an ARC of this book. It releases this Sunday 💃🏾
This is a part of the Whitfolk series, but can be read as a standalone. The characters from the previous books are featured in this story.
Spencer and Lily have been best friends for years. They both live and work in the resort town of Whitfolk.
Spencer's grandmother is in town for the holidays and bonds with Lily over their love of baking. Nana even hints that she may share some of her secret recipes with Lily. However, as Nana starts playing matchmaker, Spencer and Lily have difficulties seeing each other as just friends....

Pining for my Best Friend is Lily and Spencer's story. I honestly think this is the best to date, though I have loved the others in the series. Pining for my Best Friend is brilliantly written with strong characters that we have met before and two new ones, are added. One is the White's grandmother, she is wonderful and truly loved her. Will Spencer and Lilly see what the others see? Will they get their HEA? No spoilers from me, sorry, this book needs to be purchased for a true reflection, my words don't come across adequately. Fantastic story, I'm looking forward to reading the next in the series.

Have you read this series by @kristinewjoy? I am hooked! This book is the latest and features Spencer out of all the brothers and Lily, his best friend. They have been best friends for a long time, but his grandmother has other ideas for them.
I love a good friends first story. These two are just clueless about each other and while Nana probably should have stayed out of it, they probably never would have figured it out. I love the how the family is written in these books. They are tight, even if they give each other a hard time.
This can be read as a stand alone, but I recommend starting at the beginning.
Thanks @kristinewjoy for this ARC! It was another great one!
Lily has found her home, her chosen family, and the most important parts of her. She has been dreaming of the perfect Christmas, something straight out of a storybook. Will she risk it all for love?
Spencer is the rebellious, free-flying, younger sibling of the White family. A pilot with eyes for the skies… and the ladies on land too. What can he do when new emotions start to bubble up?
Oh, how we love a meddling Nana! When Lily and Spencer can’t see the obvious, Nana is ready to step in and make sure some happily ever after occurs. Overall this was a very enjoyable read yet again! All of the White family made their own little appearance and I do believe there were some hints to the next book! If you are looking for a quick, homey, comfy, read in a Christmas setting then this is the book for you!
This is hands down my favorite of the series. While they can be read by themselves, it is just a better experience to read about the other characters stories as well. Spencer and Lily are clearly in love with each other but are too afraid to try and change their relationship status. If this doesn’t work, will they lose their friendship in the process? Will Spencer’s Nana be able to wake them up to the possibility of what they can become before it’s too late? Definitely give this book a chance. You won’t be disappointed!.

They’ve been best friends for a years, even when he went out and visitors flirted with him wanting some fun. She’s not willing to give up friend status because if it goes south, she’ll also lose his family, which is the only family she has. She especially connects with Nana his feisty grandmother who keeps pushing them into a relationship. Spencer has some growing up to do and realizing what being without Lily would mean. Such a fun Christmas read. Clean. I want to go back and read about his siblings stories.
I loved how the story of Spencer & Lily played out, because it so happens in real life. However, the fact that they overcame their fear to allow them explore their feelings which led to happiness for them is the best part.
A very well written book by Ms. Joy, realistically dealing with several issues including the loss of loved ones, while not leaving out the comedy and drama that comes with love and family dynamics. It's a great read.
I received an ARC and am voluntarily leaving my honest review.
Spencer and Lily. Best friends. Only friends. But Nana sees something more between them. This book moved at supersonic speed, it was hard to keep up with all the big moments happening. I enjoyed the idea of the story but wished it had a slower burn for it. I also hated the sidestory with Justine-she was just plain annoying and if Spencer really respected Lily as his bestfriend, he wouldn’t have paraded Justine around at the family dinner after getting into a fight with Lily ..but that’s just me. I did enjoy this mini series. I would recommend.

Nana the Matchmaker. It’s Christmas magic that the White family’s Nana plays cupid. I confess Nana stole the show in this story. We see the closeness of Lily and Spencer in the previous books and wonder why they aren’t a couple yet? What’s their story? Now we have it. It is a slow burn romance with a taste of holiday cheer.

Spencer and Lilly have been best friends since they were little. She knows everything about him and they tell each other about past relationships. But when a set up kiss under the mistletoe happens it has them both thinking other things. Plus his grandmother is trying to play Cupid. Will they fall in line with her wishes?.

Another wonderful romance in Whitfolk. I loved the banter between Lily and Spencer, I loved Nana, I loved the spectacular scenery and the sleighride, I loved the Christmas celebrations and I loved Spencer’s romantic gestures. In short: I loved this book.
A review copy of this book was sent to me by the author. All of the above opinions are my own.
I LOVE this series! It’s Spencer and Lily’s turn to find love-and realize that best friends can move beyond the friendship zone. There’s lots of holiday traditions that are kept and new one made. An enjoyable HEA holiday read.

This book was so full of emotion. It pulled laughs, tears, both from laughter and sadness, a feeling of warmth and joy and so much more. The writing is amazing. So easy to read but packed so full of love too. This one hit home for me and even though it was a little sad, it was a wonderful book to read.
I thoroughly enjoyed this. Friends to Lovers? Yes please. A meddling nana who knows what is best? Check. Two BFF's who are secretly in love but both think there is no chance? Double check. Neither was willing to sacrifice their friendship but taking it to the next level was exactly what they needed. The story was well done, I loved the Christmas aspect, and the romance was swoony!
Oh I have really loved hanging out in Whitfolk lately! This one is my favorite! I LOVE Spencer and Lily. I also love a good epilogue and boy is this one good! The only disappointing thing is that I don’t have any more books from the author to read! I’ll be on the lookout for her next book!
