Leita loves Christmas. Seeing everyone come together to celebrate the holidays is her favourite thing in the world.
Rhett despises festivities. He hates the way everyone pretends like their lives don't suck the other eleven months of the year.
Out of desperation, Rhett takes a job at the local Santa's Grotto, and whether by fate or by chance, he meets his new colleague, the very festive Leita.
But what happens when opposites are forced together at Christmas?

This was a great start to my holiday season reading and I really enjoyed this little novella.
The characters were likable, the chemistry was there, and the story flowed. I’m currently obsessed with quick stories like this, so this came at a perfect time.
If you’re looking for a fast paced, Christmas-y romance story, grab this one for your next read!
Christmas At The Grotto is a holiday feel-good romance with an “enemies-to-lovers” vibe. The couple: Leita who is absolutely enamored with Christmas, and Rhett, a snarky man who despises the holiday.
My only complaint is that this story wasn’t longer! I wanted to watch Lieta’s and Rhett’s relationship grow more and more!! I wanted to see them clash more since their personalities are so oppositional. I wanted to see more of them together.
But that’s just me being greedy—this story was very sweet and heart-warming, and it was definitely the perfect read for Christmas Eve!
NOTE: American readers should know this book was written by a Scottish author and the story is set there as well, so there might be a few words that you don’t recognize, or some spelling of words that differ from how we spell things in the States.
This is THE perfect Christmas read! I literally smiled the entire time I read it and absolutely ADORED Rhett and Leita! A book that references one of my all time favorite movies (10 Things I Hate About You) is a win and couple that with Colby's incredible writing style and the way she crafts her characters and plot, then it is an immediate favorite! I give this a gazillion stars and cannot wait for Colby's next book!
This was the cutest Christmas novella! It’s November 9th, but this definitely put me in the holiday mood. And who doesn’t love a cute romance, especially a holiday romance? ❤️ it was precious and had me in my feels
I'm officially making this an annual holiday read! My second time reading this adorable romance and I loved it just as much as I did the first time around. The writing is superb. I adored Leita and Rhett from their first pages. The lovers-from-opposite-sides-of-the-tracks trope gets me every time! While quick, the pacing of this novella is just right to leave you happily satisfied. If you're looking for a short, but heartfelt read to get you in the spirit, look no further than Chirstmas at the Grotto!
Even though I read this in March (life always gets in the way) I thoroughly enjoyed this story. I hope Colby Bettely continues to write, she definitely has a bright future and I'm looking forward to her next work! We'll done!
I absolutely loved this holiday read. It was so stinking cute. The dynamic between Elfie and Rhett is *chef's kiss*. This is the cutest holiday novella ever! I love how Rhett came off as this jerk face and our little Elfie unlocks this gentle, sweet giant. I loved the journey these two go through together and how they unravel something hidden inside each other. On top of that, it takes place around Christmas as Rhett and Elfie transform into Santa's little helpers. Add this cute novella to your TBR!
I absolutely adore the writing style in this novella. It was the absolute perfect holiday read! Colby Bettley has this amazing talent to create such a connection between characters in such a short amount of pages.
My secret hope is that she extends the novella to tell all sorts of stories about these characters because I absolutely adore Leita and Rhett!
While this is a holiday love story, it’s one I definitely think readers will love year round.
Review: First of all I’d like to say a huge thank you to Colby Bettley and Equality Book Tours for the opportunity to be apart of the tour and to receive an ARC of this lovely book in exchange for an honest review✨
As we all know, grumpy x sunshine and enemies to lovers are really the best tropes out there, a sprinkling of forced proximity, a flurry of opposites attract and heaps of Christmas spirit, all wrapped up in the glistening bow of a HEA and that about sums up Christmas at the Grotto!
This fast paced novella really got me in the Christmas spirit and made me feel warm and gooey inside. Rhett and Leita are incredibly cute, and I love that Leita makes it her mission to give Rhett some good Christmas memories. Rhett is definitely treated as the bad kid that everyone avoids and should be weary of and it honestly breaks my heart because he’s such a cutie🥹 Leita is full of holiday cheer and has a positive outlook on life considering what she’s gone through🥰
I wish this had been a full length novel so we could have explored their character development and back stories a bit more and maybe met a few of the other characters properly!🥹 I 100% recommend Christmas at the Grotto for all those looking for a quick holiday read with a wee bit of spice to help them get in the spirit!🎄
- Grumpy x Sunshine - Opposites Attract - Enemies to Lovers - Forced Proximate - Workplace Romance - True Meaning of Christmas - Happily Ever After
Hello! It’s June and I’m going through my backlog of books Ive read this year and finally coming in to write reviews. I read this in January, and I absolutely loved it! Colby is an amazing writer. I see little bits of her personality sprinkled into this and it makes me so happy. Rhett is a sexy growly hot man and Leita is a sassy/sweet girl. This is a novella so it’s short and sweet and fun! I adore it and I can’t wait to read more of what Colby writes!
Thank you Equality Book Tours and Colby for this gifted eCopy!
I found this to be a cute holiday novella but even for a novella I felt the story was far too rushed and not very believable given the circumstances.
But if you love festive, to the point chance romances - this is perfect for you! I also did enjoy Leita’s passion and love for the holiday season because #same ♥️
This book is the perfect book for the holiday season! It fits right into the holiday romantic genre. The only problem? It was over too soon. Can’t wait to read more from Colby!
Quick fun holiday novella! A little bit of spice, the ever so favorite enemies to lovers trope, and the true meaning of Christmas? What more could you want in a holiday read!
This was a super cute Christmas novella! I was very impressed with the romance story that the author was able to write in such a short amount of pages. While it lacked some of the backstory and character depth that you get in a full length novel. I was still able to find myself drawn into the world of the characters. This novella is short and sweet and to the point. If you are looking for a fun quick read to get you thinking about it the holidays. I highly recommend you to pick up this one.
Christmas at the grotto is a feel-good holiday/Workplace Opposites Attract romance. Leita and Rhett are adorable, I wish the book was longer to flesh out more details I'm their relationship (more opposition would have been lovely!) and whatever the deal was with Quincy.
I loved the references to different rom-com movies. The fact that it was the MMC making the references was even better.
The author is Scottish, and the book is set in Scottland - things have different spelling over there and they use different works for objects than we do in the US, boot vs trunk of the car - you have been warned, these are not mistakes!
This was a cute romance filled with plenty of holiday cheer. I truly enjoyed the rom-com movie references and loved the main characters’ back and forth banter. If you’re looking for a quick, easy to read book for the Christmas season then this is for you. Due to being so short the characters were not as developed as I would like, but turned into a full length book I feel like this could be great.
3.5 stars! The first Christmas romance I have finished this season! It’s a quick novella filled with some of my favorite tropes! I enjoyed this book, it’s the first novella I have read so it did take me a bit to get used to the fact that things move quicker but I still enjoyed it! I especially really loved our fmc, Leita. She is just so cheery and I can feel the Christmas spirit from her being injected into my bloodstream. I think this is a great novella to get you started on the Christmas tbr!
This could have been a cute story, but it felt rushed, even for a novella. I think I would have enjoyed it more if it was longer - that way the relationship between Leita & Rhett would have felt more believable. Unfortunately, the few scenes I did like didn't make up for the rest of the book.
Every year, Christmas-loving Leita looks forward to her seasonal job as an elf at the local Santa's grotto. By contrast, her new co-worker Rhett hates Christmas and couldn't be less excited to play Santa. Putting the two of them together should be a disaster, but when Leita decides that she's going to find a way to make Rhett like Christmas, he's surprised to find himself looking forward to work each day.
I very much enjoyed this cute, funny, and sweet story, particularly its message about the importance of pursuing one's dreams because life is short. Rhett and Leita's banter was a lot of fun and I loved when she teased him. I also loved that he used classic romantic comedies as research material when he was figuring out how to win her over. I will say that a grand gesture seemed kind of unnecessary and over the top in this scenario given that they hadn't parted on bad terms, but it was sweet that Rhett wanted to put in the effort to show Leita how much he cared.
This was a fairly short novella (I read the whole thing in about an hour), so there wasn't time for much in the way of character or relationship development. However, based on the snippets that were shared about Rhett and Leita's respective backgrounds and family situations, I think there's enough material here for the author to expand into a full-length novel if she chose to do so.
I'd recommend "Christmas at the Grotto" for all contemporary romance and romantic comedy fans and look forward to whatever Bettley writes next.

This is a super cute and fun Christmas novella!! It's a quick little read, and has a little spicy for all you spice lovers. It put me right into the holiday mood, and I was smiling the entire read! The author is from Scotland, and the story takes place in Scotland, so some terms or spelling may confuse readers who aren't familiar. But I thought the town and workplace were such a fun setting.
🎄 Grumpy x Sunshine/Opposites Attract 🎄 Workplace Romance 🎄 Enemies to Lovers 🎄 FULL of Christmas spirit! 🎄 Happily Ever After
Rhett and Leita are perfect. The banter between them was fun. The spice was light, only really two scenes that are naughty and one kissing. My only complaint is that it's a novella, and not a full story!! Seriously, I enjoyed this so much I would have loved more time with everyone. I enjoyed how the authors writes, so I'm keeping my eye out for future books! 😍
Christmas at the Grotto was a light, cute, warm, fuzzy, and quick read! Definitely gets you into a holiday spirit with how cheerful Leita is 🤣.
Rhett is hot, grumpy guy who doesn’t see the point in all the Christmas cheer, especially due to his upbringing. Drastic times call for drastic measures, leading him to work at the Grotto where he meets Leita. Let’s just say.. she knew how to get to him quick 🥰.
I loved how this short story unfolded and definitely had the classic Hallmark vibes that I love to watch during this time 🥹❤️. Leitas dad was my favorite character, such a supporter for both Leita and Rhett.
Not too much spice, but it was really well written that I had to double check I was reading a Christmas story 🤣. Definitely recommend this to someone looking for a quick, enjoyable read with all the Christmas/holiday vibes.
❣️Thank you, Colby Bettley and Equality Book Tours for this e-copy in exchange for honest thoughts and opinions ❤️
If you’re looking for a grumpy/sunshine story to fill your Christmas reading goal stocking then this book is a perfect choice!
We are quickly introduced to our sunshine, Lieta, who is happy, cheerful, high-on-Christmas-spirit, and excitedly looking forward to her time at Santa’s Grotto. Then we meet our Grump, Rhett. He hasn’t had it easy and is just doing this job to make ends meet because he haaaates Christmas.
I absolutely loved the dynamic between the two characters and loved that sass and flirtatious banter. I’m still mad at Quincy for what happened but I’m so proud of Rhett for stepping up with a grand gesture!! 🥹
This was a very short and sweet holiday novella with a darling HEA. If you love a good grumpy/sunshine trope or a workplace romance trope, this is an excellent choice! It’s fairly low spice but it’s so sickeningly sweet and will be the perfect palate cleanser for when your family drives you into your Kindle for serotonin this holiday season 😂
Are you looking for an adorable and quick holiday read? And do you want it to be on KU? Well then you HAVE to check out Christmas at the Grotto!
This super cute novella was a perfect read for the chilly northeast weather I’m having right now! So grab your cocoa and a fuzzy blanket to snuggle up with this book!
Leita and Rhett are working at a Christmas festival in their town, but Rhett hates Christmas! Their friendship quickly turns to a sweet and sexy romance.
I really liked both the characters. They were opposites (and yes, grumpy x sunshine) which was just fun to read about. So if you like grumpy x sunshine and a fast paced, quick romance, Christmas at the Grotto is perfect for you!
I often don’t love novellas as they are just so short and feel rushed, BUT this one was a solid five stars for me! I think holiday romance is the perfect little bit of joy to squeeze into the novella format and Colby does it so well here! When I first started this one I sighed a bit as the main character is an absolute explosion of holiday cheer. Then we meet Rhett the love interest and bam, I’m sold. He’s such a bummer and I love it! I’m just a sucker for a character who grumbles about Christmas (maybe because I relate…). The immediate tension with these characters makes this slice of Christmas spice all the more delectable! (It’s not too spicy btw. Just enough for a good time.)
Looking for a quick little Christmas read with Grumpy x Sunshine, enemies to lovers, work place romance, and a HEA? Well you’ve just found one! Christmas at the Grotto was such a cute and fun fast read! I wish there was more! But I really loved the MCs Leita and Rhett! Their chemistry was just *chef’s kiss* from the get go!
Leita is the definition of Christmas spirit, while Rhett would rather be a Scrooge..Poor guy.. But with a little Christmas cheer and time spent together during this holiday season, Leita may have just turned Rhett’s world upside down and found him a reason to love Christmas once again! ❤️🎄💚
