I gotta say this was disappointing. The writing was so dry and wordy and the art static. I was thoroughly bored with all of it. Even though this is a prequel, I think you may be better off watching the new cartoon first and then come back to this.

EN After a really rough first chapter, I was bracing myself for the worst — but to my surprise, the next three chapters were actually pretty decent.
Of course, I’m probably more into this than the average reader, since Masters of the Universe holds a special place in my heart. It was great to see all the nods to characters from the original cartoon — a real treat for longtime fans.
That said, the plot isn’t amazing. I’m not really a fan of the direction they’re taking. It feels like they’re trying to expand the universe before properly grounding the basics. For example, rewriting Skeletor’s and Evil-Lyn’s origins, or changing the backstory of Castle Grayskull and the Sword of Power — it all seems a bit much, like they’re tampering with core elements that didn’t need fixing. I think they should focus on telling solid stories within the established universe first, and only then start expanding.
Still, despite my misgivings, it was an entertaining read and a fun return to this beloved world.
A good prequel to the Netflex series. The book covers the origins of four of the main characters. Got to say not my favorite He-man but overall a great set up.
Wonder how Skeletor got the the secrets he needed about Castle Grayskull? This book explains it here. Not the mist action packed book but we'll done.
The book finishes with the cover gallery of the varient covers and a coloured sketch book of the character designs.
Pre-Review: Reading as single issues. (#2 just came out recently.)
I have mixed feelings about this series...
Since this is an interstitial bridge between the 80's series and "Revelation", I had intended to wait for this entire series to finish, THEN watch the "Revelation" series.
But (predictably) I couldn't wait to see a revival of one of my favorite childhood cartoons. And BOY, was that a mistake. (That's another topic, but suffice to say, I was BITTERLY disappointed with the results.)
Doubtless this is coloring my perception of the comics, but I could at least appreciate what they're trying to do with the comics, adding to the mythos without stepping on/running over established canon (unlike the Netflix series.)
Full review when series is complete. ****
Well.. This was a thing, I guess?
It's marginally better than the first half of the "Revelations" saga, thought that really isn't something to crow about, and I expect way better from my He-Man comics and cartoons. (Haven't seen the new series, or the 2nd half of Revelations; I hear the former is decent, the latter not so much.)
This is a very good prequel and is an important companion piece for the animated series. The back stories are good and are slightly different to what we are familiar which it's fresh.
This is the prequel comic to the Netflix Masters of the Universe Revelation animated series. As a person who grew up watching the original animated series (and has now seen Revelations), I actually really enjoyed this comic. That said, I query whether a person who was not at least familiar with MotU would understand or care what is going on. I was chuffed to see certain characters in the background, and the exploration of certain character's worldviews, but this is from a strong foundation of nostalgia. I'd say give this a read if you're an adult who is already a MotU fan.
Neki likovi su me razočarali, a najviše Skeletor.
Okay...well...I had no intention of watching the Netflix show but I guess I should now with that ending that just leaves you hanging.
I honestly enjoyed this though. I'm an 80s kid who grew up with He-Man and She-Ra so I read this for nostalgia. The characters felt like themselves to me...though there were some odd jumps in the story where I thought maybe I missed a page because it felt like something was missing...but I hadn't skipped anything.
So this wasn't perfect and it definitely doesn't feel complete with the way it ends...but I'm assuming it leads into the TV show and that would provide some closure for some of these things. I did enjoy the read though and would have loved to read a continuation.
I got this on sale and ended up with very mixed feelings about it. To be fair, I'm not the biggest fan of the Revelations show and this prequel title tries to set things up. That said, it takes a bit of time to get there, and the way it pivots into events more directly tied to the TV show (mainly centered around Teela) in a rather rough manner.
I'm still not totally feeling it for now, but at least it's not a terrible book. It does have some tone of voice inconsistencies but on the whole it has a lot of heart and certainly has a clear objective in terms of what it wants to achieve.
I was a big fan of He-Man as a child and re-watched some of Kevin Smith’s Netflix reboot over the last few days. It’s not great and of course made a lot of mistakes that alienated its core audience. This comic is okay but I will deduct a star for the terrible Skeletor origins story. Such a character is better left a mystery. The 2002 series made the mistake of giving him a backstory too but is generally much better than the Netflix era.
3.5 This is a nice prequel to the Netflix series of the same name. The writing could be hard to follow at times but overall I enjoyed it. Especially getting a bit more information on Evil-lyn's backstory was fantastic.
I would have preferred a story; this felt more like vignettes to kill time until the show starts. It had its moments, but it is most definitely skippable.
