This is an awesome guide for anyone seeking to study the Spanish language. Following a different format, this resource introduces short stories in Spanish, followed by a summary in Spanish and English. There is also a glossary included as well as quizzes with answers provided. Such a cool way to learn a casual and conversational way to speak. This package includes downloadable flash cards for extra practice. I really recommend this book. A wonderful way to study another language.
I've been using various graded readers as part of the extensive method to learn Spanish - some call this immersion learning. The idea is you try to read these texts without looking up words. at the intermediate level you will know most of the words and expressions in these stories but not all.
The set up for this book is a preface telling you what they are trying to teach in each story. the story itself, a short summary of the story in Spanish, the summary repeated in English, the vocabulary list (very extensive) a section of questions for you to respond to in order to determine comprehension, a section of true/false (verdadero/falso) questions, an answer key to the questions in Spanish, and an answer key to the true/false question. Each story also ends with a "key points" in English and what the next lesson will teach. I found ll of the above to be very helpful.
The downside of this book is that the stories themselves are not very interesting. They are, after all, short stories, so there isn't much chance to connect with the characters.
This is available as an ebook and is quite inexpensive.
The last time I stalled out on my Spanish it was because I didn't have enough material to bridge the gap between where I was and where native speakers were. I always felt a little silly for struggling with 2nd grade level books in spanish when they had already learned to write and speak my own native language. Thankfully there's a book like this that gives you the support and supplies needed to keep bridging that gap and helps me work towards becoming a pro Spanish speaker one day! They're great for practice and short enough to tackle time and time again until it clicks, for revision and as a reminder of how well you're progressing!
This book in the series follows the same theme of: stories in Spanish, summary in Spanish, summary in English, a glossary, and questions/answers. In this book, a lot of new words and phrases are introduced. Not only are the phrases new but they are a little bit longer as well. For example, Podría pedirle a algún vecino con carro que los lleve al hospital: she could ask a neighbor with a car to take them to the hospital. We are taking a step up from basic day-to-day conversation. I definitely find the lessons useful for building my knowledge of the Spanish language.
