Lauderdale #1

In Over Her Head

Rate this book
When you venture out of your comfort zone, better be armed for trouble.

Maren North’s grandfather has lost his mind. Why else would Pops bequeath her his neglected Fort Lauderdale private investigations business—when he’s not even close to croaking—and ride off into the retirement sunset?

Never mind that a successful voice actress has exactly zero qualifications to be a P.I.

First order of business, hire someone to show her the ropes. The second man through the door arrives just in time to bodily throw the first one out on his ear. Floyd James—six-foot something of gentle giant who knows how to get tough when the situation calls for it—turns out to be just the right man for the job. Good thing, too, because her first case is a doozy.

Caturday Ginseng is looking for her ex. Okay, sounds doable. Until she makes it clear she wants Maren to do the dirty work of offing him—and that’s where things go from shady to dangerous faster than you can say murder for hire.

My personal ad would read:

There's nothing a new pair of shoes can't cure.

Redhead. Long legs. There's nothing like a strawberry-lemonade in summer. Favorite activity: Filling my pockets with seashells. An avid rule follower when eating Animal Cookies: Broken ones get eaten first, match up the rest, duplicates next, line them up favorite to not, least favorite go first. South Florida is my home, with my ungrateful rescue cats, and where Mother Nature takes out her bad attitude in the form of hurricanes.

Entertaining cute relationships mystery novel ✨🎎👒😎😃🎆

This kindle e-book novel is from my Kindle Unlimited account book 1 of 5

I have a bad habit of picking novels about Sherlock Holmes, New England, Florida, British mystery, space opera, and the 500 authors I have read or listen to.

She is taking over her grandfather Detective business. She goes to hire a PI which turns out to be grandfather plan to find her a husband. She becomes partners with a PI and the fun begins.

I would recommend this series and author to readers of romantic family and friends relationships adventure mystery novels. 2024

Fun and Refreshing Cozy Mystery
This is the first book in a short series. I hope all of them are as fun as this book. I have read other books by this author and was not disappointed. The story is clean! No blood, guts, bad language, or blatant sex. Unlike most cozy mysteries, our main characters are not obsessed with food, fashion, wine, books, or any of the stuff that litters other cozy mysteries. Some of the characters in this book were also seen in a different series, but do not play a huge role. The book is action-filled, but stress-free. I will be binge-reading this series!

Yeah!!!! A new series....

Deborah Brown -- I love your work. Being a Floridian, I love to see stories set in locales that I am familiar with. Then, you add great characters and over the top plots with a touch of romance. I like that it builds on your other books. Just can't wait to read more.

This is a wonderful first book in the Lauderdale series. Several characters from her Biscayne Bay Series appear in this one. A great mystery with some romance and humor and a few quirky characters make this a winner. Spunky female main character that takes over a PI business from her grandfather. Can’t wait for the next installment.

It Was OK

The story didn't quite hold my interest. Not sure why. The characters were fairly amusing. But it was just kind of bland. It could be because I've been reading some gritty thrillers lately, so this worked as a nice tame, cozy mystery pallet cleanser.

In over her head is an understatement

Maren hadn't realized just how much she had absorbed from her Pops until he asked her to take over his business. One flighty person after another keeps showing up. How did she get talked into this mess anyway?

I enjoyed this book. It was fun having the characters from Biscayne Bay showing up and Maran’s Pop would give Gram a round for her money on who could meddle more in their Granddaughter life….

Great story, hard to follow

The story line was great and very humorous. I often had trouble figuring out who was speaking or which character was doing what.
