This was a cute holiday read, reminded me a little of the movie Laws of Attraction, which is also a cute movie. I kept meaning to read this one over Christmas, but ran out of time. Anyway, this was a fun little escape, perfect for a quick afternoon read. I loved the setting and Christmas atmosphere. It would have made a nice full-length novel, but ended up being perfect and everything wrapped up nicely. Would recommend to anyone who enjoys contemporary Christmas romance, even if it's no longer Christmastime. :)
Content Clean, no language or sexual content. Listed as part of the Kissed By the Bay series, but stands on its own.
I adore this series and each book can stand alone. Harper is a divorce attorney with a somewhat bitter attitude towards love and marriage, with good reason. The opposing counsel on her most current case is hottie, Gabriel, who is positive and believes in second chances. A misunderstanding lands both of them at the same cabin for the Christmas holiday. In a style reminiscent of a Hallmark Christmas movie, the sparks and chemistry between these opposites ignites into a sweet and festive story.
I like to think I'm a fairly positive person, although I do have my moments, so it was hard not to be frustrated with Harper's uptight ways. I wanted her to unwind and go with the flow and as the story progressed, she did loosen up a bit. Gabriel is very chill and I think they're a good balance for each others personalities.
The romance is very quick, almost instant, but it totally works for me in this book. Sometimes those sparks flame up into something more with the magic of the holidays. Although this book is short, less than 100 pages, it feels complete and has all of the elements of a great story. If you like clean Christmas romances, you're sure to love this one.
Content: mild romance (swoony kissing)
*I received a copy from the author with no obligation to review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.*
This book is overflowing with all that is sweet and romantic in the perfect wintery Christmas setting - Lake Tahoe! (I love Lake Tahoe! I actually prefer it in the summer though- I'm a girl that doesn't like to be cold.)
I think Gabriel is perfectly named for the angel that he is. He stole the show with his thoughtfulness and kindness in this book. I just loved him. Harper is a bit more jaded then Gabriel and has a harder time letting go and allowing herself to feel. Opposites definitely attract in this case!
This is a short story so it's over before you know it but I felt like I had all the arch and elements need to be fully invested. This was a fun diversion and the perfect romantic story for the holiday season. Grab a cup of hot chocolate, your favorite snuggy blanket and settle in for a fun, romantic treat!

Harper Avery is a divorce attorney. So is Gabriel Hart. The similarities stop there.
Harper is a bit jaded. Because one of her earlier relationships didn't work out, she feels that moving on quickly forces things to hurt less. Gabriel believes in second chances, believes that love can work miracles.
Harper's client's soon-to-be ex-husband wants to reconcile. Gabriel is his attorney and goes head to head with Harper over letting the couple get on with a second chance.
With Christmas right around the corner, Harper decides her spend her holiday in a friend's cabin. Only when she arrives, she finds that someone is already there.... Gabriel Hart.
With neither of them willing to give up the cabin, they decide they can spend a few days sharing without coming to blows.
The last thing she expected was Gabriel turning into a really nice guy .. someone she could fall for ... hard and fast! But can he change her mind about second chances?
This is a short story/novella ... less than 100 pages. If you're looking for a feel-good Christmas story, this one fits the bill quite nicely.
The characters are credible and likeable. The setting of Christmas in a Lake Tahoe cabin makes me want to pack my parka and go. The author packs a lot of story into these pages and once started, it's hard to put down.
Highly recommended.
Many thanks to the author / Hatco Publishing / Netgalley. The opinion expressed here is unbiased and completely my own.
He’d seemed like the perfect guy from the start. He was ambitious and driven, with just enough playfulness to make him interesting.
My dad used to tell me that Christmas is the perfect time to reset yourself, because an open heart willing to give love and second chances can change the world.
My Review:
A short and sweet Christmas read to wind down on Christmas Day seemed just the right thing to do, so I dived into a delightful little Susan Hatler story for the very first time, and after I surfaced I asked what was I waiting for? I’ve noticed her appealing and eye-catching book covers many times but had never picked one up before now. The writing was crisp, observant, engaging, easy to follow, and unfailingly entertaining. I will definitely be coming back for more.
The Christmas Cabin is a fun, quick, holiday read. Harper and Gabriel are both divorce attorneys and are representing a couple filing for divorce. Harper is anti-love and Gabriel wants what his folks have, but just needs to get past some scars.
Be prepared for great banter and a few steamy kisses, and a cabin in the snow.
Thank you to Booksprout and the Author for the advanced copy; this is my voluntary review.
This book had me on a whole spectrum of feelings. From moments that I absolute loved to ones that were cute, to that was ok and all the way down to some moments bothering me. Overall it was a fun Christmas read with witty dialogue as the two MCs bantered back and forth. There was plenty of sparks flying, sparks of love and sparks of angry. Harper and Gabriel are both divorce attorneys who are each representing one side of a couple filing for divorce. This divorce fuels the fire throughout the book.
Both Harper and Gabriel have some emotional scars they are healing from. They have both taken moments in their lives where they were hurt and allowed either anger or healing to fuel them and turn their thoughts and personal opinions into what they are when the book opens. Heartbreak can be ugly and leave you feeling broken, alone, angry, resentful and a plethora of other similar emotions. Harper has definitely allowed herself to go down that line of feelings after a hard breakup. She allows those to guide her in her client's divorces.
Gabriel has watched his parent's love and marriage for years and realizes that it is possible to have a great relationship and that everyone should have a second chance. Sometimes those second chances work and sometimes they don't but then the couples will know for sure that it won't work and can end amiably instead of with anger. Yes he has had previous relationships that didn't work out which also spur his belief in second chances.
When these two meet to sign the final papers with their clients something very unexpected happens leaving both emotionally charged.
Harper decides to disappear from town and go last minute to spend Christmas with her aunt. Unfortunately her aunt is unavailable so she does the next best thing....grabs the chance to rent a cabin in Lake Tahoe from a friend and drives off to enjoy her solitude.
Yet her Christmas experience is not what she thought it would be. Why can't she stop thinking about Gabriel. He is completely wrong in his view points. Doesn't he know anything about relationships and love? If he did wouldn't he know that he's wrong? Yes he would...
Without giving too much away, let's just say that Harper is at odds with herself in her feelings towards Gabriel. Since it's in the little blurb about the book I won't be giving anything away saying this, Harper arrives at the cabin and finds it already occupied...yep I think you've guessed it (or probably know if you've read the blurb)...it's occupied, by none other than that man Gabriel Hart.
Ugh, he must leave, he has to leave....like now....like RIGHT NOW!!!!! But he refuses, she refuses and then we end up with two divorce attorneys with differing opinions staying together in a cabin over Christmas.
As I said it was a pretty fun read with lots of sparks flying. I really enjoyed the dynamics between Harper and Gabriel. I liked Gabriel's character a lot. Harper wasn't my absolute favorite but at the same time she had a lot of growth and development that she was working through. She had some pretty significant struggles from her childhood and life that really affected her. My thoughts are (one of the things that bugged me) that her main relationship she holds onto was many years before(or it feels like it but I think in all actuality with her age being told in the book that it really is only a couple years) and she holds onto it so tightly without ever allowing any peace or healing into her heart. I know, this story is what brings that about but I struggled with her mood swings(I think that's a good way to say it). One of the other things that bothered me was the married couple filing for divorce. I know why their story was in there and I know what point the author was making but the husband drove me bonkers...well, I think the wife did too. LOL. I really don't want to go into specifics because I don't want to spoil it. Maybe I shouldn't even say they bothered me because they really aren't the main focus of the story just a side part that gets our couples together and thinking.
Ok, maybe I shared a little too much info but even with the things that bothered me in the book I did enjoy it. It is a story about healing and love and hurt and loneliness and sorrow and forgiveness and LOVE(oops already said that didn't I ;-) ). Definitely about LOVE!
This was a clean read. A few steamy Christmas kisses(couldn't resist throwing that in there) but nothing else. An unmarried couple shares a cabin together but have separate sleeping areas and just kiss. I'd recommend it for older YA and up. This is part of a series but can be read separately. If you're interested the first book Every Little Kiss is available on Amazon for free.
I received a copy from Hatco Publishing, all thoughts and opinions in my review are definitely my own.
Jaded divorce attorney, Harper, does not believe in love or happily ever afters. There's a reason for the wall she's built around her heart. In her experience, love always ends in hurt. It should be no surprise that she is pro divorce. Why be married and miserable? So when her client's soon to be ex decides he still loves her and wants another chance, Harper will fight with everything she has to make sure that doesn't happen.
Despite being a divorce attorney, Gabriel believes in love, second chances and happily ever afters. He doesn't see the harm in giving his client and his wife another chance to talk and work things out. No one is perfect and you don't always get things right the first time around. He will do everything he can to make sure his client has every opportunity to work things out with his wife.
Harper cannot stand Gabriel. Who does he think he is? A second chance is not what their clients need! They need to sign those divorce papers ASAP so they can both move on with their lives. But when her client goes against her wishes, Harper decides she needs a change of scenery. She needs to get away from it all and recharge.
So when her old college friend reaches out letting her know her cabin is available for Christmas, Harper jumps at the chance to get away from the city. But she's not the only one the cabin was offered to. Enter Gabriel. This just can't be happening. Now what is she going to do?!
Neither Harper nor Gabriel are willing to leave the cabin. They will just need to make the best of it. Harper will have to do her best to stay as far away from Gabriel as possible. But when the magic of Christmas fills the air, Harper feels herself softening towards Gabriel.
Will her client's circumstances remind her why she's stayed away from relationships all these years? Or can the magic of Christmas and Gabriel change her mind on love, second chances and happily ever afters?
*dreamy sigh*
I really need to get caught up on my Susan Hatler books! This is the first book I have read in the Kissed by the Bay series and I'm excited to read the rest of them! Ms. Hatler is a genius when it comes to swoony books! I have loved every one of hers that I have read!
And these two.. *dreamy sigh* I think I love them!
Susan Hatler writes romance you just cant put down. I just cannot get enough of this series. Susan made me fall in love with blue moon bay and in this sweet novella, she made me want to go to Lake Tahoe. Add the magic of Christmas, sprinkle some romance and you have a sweet story. Talk about opposites attracting. Harper and Gabriel are both divorce attorneys with widely different opinions about love. Gabriel believes in second chances while Harper is jaded after a romance turned sour. Harper decides to spend Christmas alone at her friends cabin, to lick her wounds after a meeting with her client went in the wrong direction. Unfortunately she arrives to find the cabin already occupied by Gabriel. Neither wants to leave so they both decide to stay. Forced to spend time together, they get to know either other. Will kisses in the snow lead to a happy ending? Pick up a copy and find out. Recommended for all romance readers. Copy received from author for honest review.
What I love about Susan Hatler's books is that I know to cozy up because I am going to be drawn in and staying awhile! I can always count on Hatler to write a contemporary romance that feels authentic and gives me all the feels! Harper's story was no exception as I easily fell into her life and followed every step of her journey with Gabriel. I felt the butterflies right along with Harper, the cold snowy weather and saw and smelled the pine Christmas tree! A great clean Christmas romance, I would recommend this book to any of my friends! I received a copy of this book for free, all thoughts and opinions are my own.
Harper is a no-nonsense, non-romantic divorce lawyer who works hard to get her clients what they deserve in their divorce settlements. Gabriel is also a divorce lawyer, sweet, romantic, professional, and thoughtful. He believes in second chances at love. She does not. Can he persuade her otherwise? When the two accidentally both rent the same cabin over Christmas, will they learn to work out their disagreements? Or will her past hurts and mistrust get in the way of a happily ever after? I love this author's sense of humour. I always really enjoy the fast pace in her stories and the perfect balance between dialogue and description: just enough that I can visualize everything without it becoming too heavy and boring. The romance is steamy without the sex, which is perfect for me. Despite this being a very short novella, the author manages to write a full tale with well-developed characters a satisfying conclusion. Once again, I enjoyed her work and I would not hesitate to recommend it.
After her Christmas plans with her aunt fall through, no-nonsense Harper reserves a quiet retreat at a woodland cabin. When she arrives, she's shocked to find it double booked—with none other than Gabriel, a rival divorce lawyer.
They agree to share the cabin, but Gabe's laidback manner sets her teeth on edge. Soon, though, he helps her relax some of her strict standards. She finds herself falling for him—until a crisis with their feuding clients leaves her wondering if she can trust him.
This is a sweet, funny, generally light novella. It does raise some important issues, though, about when to forgive in a relationship and when to let go.
Thanks, Booksprout, for the ARC I received. This is my honest and voluntary review.

Susan Hatler always writes really cute love stories and this was no exception. The Christmas trip to the cabin was great, all of the Christmas references made me really happy, and Harper and Gabriel were cute. The love story was a bit rushed for my liking, but it was still a lot of fun to read.
Harper and Gabriel are opposing counsels in a divorce case and the two have opposing visions about it; he believes that everyone deserves a second chance in life and she thinks that when a marriage is over that should be the end of it. When the couple they are working with decides to try to reconcile, Harper decides to spend the holidays in a friend's cabin, but when she arrives there she discovers that Gabriel has already occupied the cabin. Both decide to stay there and while they spend time together began to see the other in a new light and fall in love. A sweet and feel good romantic story. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
A cynical divorce lawyer and her opposing counsel find themselves double booked in a cabin at Christmas. A short, sweet story about learning to love. Enjoyable.
Two divorce attorneys each rent a cabin for a getaway, but end up renting the same one. Both deciding to stay, the banter and situations will make your smile. Harper and Gabriel have great backstories as they talk and learn about what marriage is all about. Their current clients are taking a break to see if they can reunite, but Harper and Gabriel each have a different take on it. The characters soften their set rules. The twists keep you guessing what will happen next. Very well done.

5 Star Read: As always I love everything I read from Susan Hatler she is among my favorite authors. I enjoyed how easy flowing this read was. Unfortunately, I read this series out of order and also missed a couple. However, the best thing is that this each book can be read as an individually. The worst thing is that I want more of this store. It was just too short.
My absolute favorite and will read again and again. I strongly recommend! It has outstanding qualities. The characters are wonderful and surprising and multi-dimensional. The writing is luring, engaging, and well-crafted enough to keep me interested from cover to cover and beyond. The plot is astonishing with twists and turns weaved into a well thought and planned story. There’s no pretense and romance was well balanced and done entirely correctly with properly distributed amounts of hints, behaviors and incredible, undeniable chemistry. Predictability is at an all-time low. With the exception of series based books that follow the same path but are just as good. Overall, Favorite, must read again, recommend!!!

Susan Hatler has written yet another feel good romance story! A Christmas Kiss is a short story that is a part of the Kissed by the Bay series but can be read as a stand alone story.
Harper has vowed never to give her heart to a man but she finds herself doing just that when it comes to Gabriel. I can’t really blame her, what’s not to love about Gabriel? He loves his work and is a true romantic, believing in love that lasts a life time and giving people second chances. Harper has been through hard times in her life and is cautious and ends up pushing Gabriel away even after they spent days together alone in a cabin. Christmas has always been Harper’s favorite time of the year and it’s about time that she starts believe in the magic that comes with the Christmas season.
If this short and sweet romantic tale doesn’t put you in the Christmas spirit than I don’t know what will! It was very well written and kept me interested the entire time. It is longer than some of the other short stories by Susan but it could still be read in one sitting, preferably snuggled up all nice and cozy by the fire place with some hot chocolate.
A Christmas Kiss by Susan Hatler is another novella in her Kissed by the Bay series. Ms. Hatler never disappoints me when it comes to a fun and well rounded story. Her characters are always well developed and the scenery descriptions make me feel like I am right there.
The plot is well paced and I felt like I really got to know both Harper and Gabriel as they got to know each other. They are both strong characters but still flawed and yet easily likeable. They are both divorce lawyers but they approach their cases from totally different view points. This may sound like the typical "opposites" attract trope but it's so much more than that as Ms. Hatler leads the reader into their history and their hearts.
I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book from Hatco Publishing. Thank you, Ms. Hatler, for allowing me to read this lovely Christmas story of second chances and love.
3.5 Second Chance Stars I wanted a light feel good read, and this hit the nail on the head, it reminded me of those cheesy made for TV Christmas movies with the HEA. Harper and Gabriel are divorce attorneys on opposing counsel, and due to a mix up they end up spending the days leading up to Christmas alone together in a friends remote log cabin in Tahoe. Harper is very much the glass is half empty and to her love is just a word, she dies not believe in haooy ever afters. Gabriel in the other hand is a glass is always full type of guy, who believes in love and second chances. A quick, easy, enjoyable read. I received a copy of this book from the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review
A Christmas Kiss was utterly sweet. I loved the simplicity of this romance. The story was clean, adorable and memorable. The characters were strong, yet flawed just enough to be interesting. My favorite part was their second chance reunion.
Love this cute, fun romance. A terrific read. Good characters balanced with good background. Currently, reading another book by same author Susan Hatler" License to Date".
This is book five of the Blue Moon Bay series and tells the story of divorce lawyers Harper Avery and Gabriel Hart. Harper has been jaded by her own past experiences an carries this through to her clients and wanting to get the best deal for them and to get them out of an unhappy marriage as soon as she can. She has one final case to wrap up before the Christmas holidays, and she and her client have been left waiting for opposing counsel, in his own offices, which makes her annoyed. When her client’s soon to be ex-husband says he wants a second chance and that he is sorry, her own client gives in to the sentiment, leaving Harper sure she will be hurt yet again by her husband’s actions. But Gabriel has the attitude that he should do all he can to get couples back together, rather than forcing them apart when there might be a second chance for them to be happy together. An example he got from his own parents who are still in love and together. Gabriel has to do all he can to stop Harper from ruining his client’s chance to get back together with his wife.
Harper gets a message from a friend saying their cabin at Lake Tahoe is free for the Christmas weekend and is available for half price due to the late opening, so she decides to go away for some peace and quiet. When she gets there, she finds someone else is already in the cabin and it just happens to be Gabriel, who is a friend of the owner’s wife, who had contacted Harper. It seems the husband and wife team hadn’t spoken to each other and each offered it to a friend, leaving it double booked for the holidays! Both refuse to give up the peaceful retreat for the holidays, although Gabriel does allow her to take the only bedroom. She hasn’t exactly come prepared for the heavy snow conditions and any sort of outdoor activities, but is pulled into some activities with Gabriel. A hunt for the perfect Christmas tree starts it all off, as both love the holiday and Harper was let down by her mother at the last minute.
Harper knows he is handsome, but has spent so long being on her own and refusing to think of love after a bad experience. Just as they are getting closer, their clients get back in touch. Gabriel’s first, but he doesn’t pass on what his client has said he would do. Then when Harper’s client calls up in a complete state, it becomes clear the husband has done exactly what he always has done and taken her money to set up some silly business idea and expects her client to foot the bill again. Harper and Gabriel were getting closer, but finding out he knew what his client was up to and didn’t tell her, not that he could due to client privilege, draws them apart. Whether they can fix things between them, or save their clients from each other, may depend on if they can beat the odds and use a bit of Christmas spirit to help them. A nice holiday story, with two people with differing life experiences driving their work methods and attitudes. Some Christmas cheer and shared experiences may be just what they need to find love. I received an ARC copy of this book from BookSprout and I have freely given my own opinion of the book above.
A cynical female divorce attorney rediscovers the spirit of Christmas--and romance--when she accidentally finds herself sharing a double-booked Lake Tahoe cabin with her opposite number in a contentious divorce case, a fellow divorce attorney with a surprising faith in the redemptive power of true love.
This is not a full romance novel but rather a short story. As such it can be forgiven for employing a plot point that is the bane of jaded romance readers, "insta-love." However, I am glad to report, it avoids what is an even worse cliché, "insta-lust." This story is G-rated, with only light kissing.
The romantic protagonists are a bit one-dimensional, also due to the fact that in a short story, there is little space for extensive character development. In an attempt, I assume, to establish comic opposites, the author has cast Gabriel as being almost as saintly as his namesake, the angel Gabriel. And the heroine Harper starts out, if not as blatantly cruel as her namesake, the Harpies of ancient mythology, she is rather harsh toward dear old Gabriel in the beginning and at the crisis of the plot. Fortunately for keeping the plot interesting, since Gabriel has no growth arc, given that he's already the ideal Beta Male, there is plenty of room for Harper to undergo a season-appropriate, Scrooge-like transformation. And, since the story is written in her first-person point of view, it makes sense that she be the one who evolves.
Given that this author is known for writing romantic comedy, or at the least, very mild drama, this story is true to her brand. It provides pleasant, romantic entertainment for those looking for a quick, light, angst-free, sex-free read.
I rate this story as follows: Heroine: 3 stars Hero: 4 stars Subcharacters: 3 stars Setting: 4 stars Romance Plot: 3 stars G-Rated: 4 stars Writing: 4 stars Overall: 3.5 rounded to 4 stars
