Goldie Hawn Berry has always been bubbly and fun, just like the woman she was named after. When a devastating trauma leaves her single, broke and jobless, Goldie loses herself. And when things come back into focus, she doesn't like what she sees.
Atticus Winters is a forty-two-year-old no-nonsense mechanic with zero intention of being someone's other half. He's perfectly fine torturing himself over his past, and being grouchy to everyone around him.
When their friends become a couple, Goldie and Atticus are forced to be in each other's lives. They both have healing to do but the similarities end there--with one grump and one ray of sunshine, these two are completely different.
But you know what they say, opposites attract.
The Brazen One is Book Two in the Wrench Kings series, and is an interconnected standalone.

Daisy Jane is a forbidden love romance author, inspired by VC Andrews and more . When she's not penning a hot age gap novel or dreaming up steamy stories, she's enjoying the sunshine and warmth at her home in California. She enjoys reading, true crime, exercise and, of course, romance.
This was a good one and though it was too long, it was very dirty. So was Atticus btw, he didn't smell better or shower more for his own book, but I loved him nonetheless 🤮 . This was an emotional read and both characters had a lot to overcome in their personal lives. It’s jarring and there are tonnes of triggers, so please familiarize yourself with them before going in: they are on the author’s website. I was very happy to note that there was very little Beck in this book, I was concerned about having to read more about her after last book but she was only a very small side character in this so yay for that! The story was a bit slow to start as the two characters didn’t like each other very much and the author kept finding ways to force them to share a bed - snow storms, drinking too much - they kept getting thrown together and it got repetitive. But luckily they warmed up to each other quickly and were so sweet and cute. The middle of the book will give you cavities but it was very nice. Atticus is an awesome boyfriend. He is strong and caring and knows when to give Goldie her space. I really like that both characters sought professional help for their issues and we weren’t expected to believe that sex cures all. Dicks are great but they are not magical. At least not in contemporary romance anyway, sci-fi is another story 😉. Speaking of magical dicks, this book had some great schmex. It had praise kink, light d/s, food play, dirty talk and voyeurism/exhibitionism but it wasn’t overdone and had a better balance between story and smut than the last one. Also I’m very happy with the ending, if you saw any of my updates you may know what I mean. But I’m no spoiler so you will have to read it for yourself.
Speaking of that, I’m just gonna leave this 🥒 right here. Once you’ve read this, you’ll know what I’m talking about 😳.
From the glimpses we had in The Wild One, I knew Atticus Winters’ and Goldie Berry’s story was going to be a good one. It was so much more emotional than I was expecting, however.
They each are carrying a metric fcukton of emotional baggage. Atti is still haunted by the past and the girl he couldn’t save. While Goldie has been taught to measure her worth on the scales and by the designer she wears.
Their HEA was definitely hard fought and didn’t take the path I expected. And for that, I loved their story so much more. And even though I’m not emphasizing the smex, that doesn’t mean it wasn’t there. There was sexual tension right from the start and it escalated with each page. When they finally gave in, it. was. explosive. And deliciously dirty.
I’ve got to give a shout out to Harry and Edie who are a-mazing! I doubt we’ll be getting their book. I would FLOVE to see them pop up in the future though. Maybe a Sunday dinner with the Wrench Kings crew?

You guys, I was so excited for Goldie's book and I have to start off and say, as someone who doesn't struggle with many mental health issues, I found her very irritating in the beginning. It all seemed so cliché and I couldn't help but be frustrated that this Goldie wasn't the same as the Goldie from Beck and Beau's story. As someone who has never struggled with depression and deeply ingrained (damn near brainwashing even) toxic diet culture, I found her internal thoughts to be annoying and repetitive. She was also lashing out at everyone around her, including Beck and I just found her to be so immature, especially at age 37. But as the story progressed, I realized just how deeply these issues affected Goldie, and as a result, how hard she fought to keep up her outward bubbly appearance (and subsequently how draining it was to keep up those appearances - hence the lashing out). And for the most part her mask worked, but not on our straight-forward, take-no-bullshit love interest, Atticus. Atticus has his own trauma and guilt that he is working through and finds it most effective to only say what you mean, no frills added. So after being repeatedly forced into each other's orbit, they unknowingly start to rub off on each other. Atticus is finding himself smiling and laughing at Goldie's humor and attempts to rile him up and Goldie is finding it refreshing that she can drop her mask in his presence. TW/CW: a HUGE part of this story revolves around disordered eating and internalized toxic diet culture stemming from a mother, so just a heads up.
While I would consider this a medium burn, the first few scenes are focused on Goldie's pleasure and they are so hot. I will say though... the dirty vibe is not for me. Absolutely no shame if it's yours, but I'm a bit of a germ freak when it comes to physical activities so it didn't do anything for me when Goldie was obsessed with Atti's greasy hair or dirty fingernails/hands and all I can think about are UTIs (I understand a part of it is being attracted to a blue collar worker but it's just not for me). But holy fuck, Atti is one hot blue collar worker. I will never look at a cucumber the same (I know the joke is always about the large cucumbers but holy shit this takes it to another level).
It was nice to see Beck and Beau featured as well, and yes this is a small town romance but I loved getting to see Goldie and Beck's friendship again. They make a handful of appearances in this book and as we know from Beck's story, something major happened to Goldie that made her pack up and move from the city to the small town of Oakcreek, but we don't know what happened. Both Beck and Beau are starting to pick up on the cracks in her armor. They push her to her limits in the way only people who love you and have your best interests at heart can do.
As Goldie and Atticus start to come to terms that their feelings are greater than the physical pleasure they can bring each other, they both come to realize that Goldie's trauma is too recent and fresh and she isn't ready for their relationship and needs to do some healing on her own. She starts therapy and they stay in contact through text and phone calls and Atti respects her boundaries and limits. It's not a long break but we see some real growth from Goldie. When she realizes she's being unfair to Beck, she apologizes and retracts her statement and rephrases it, learning from her earlier mistakes of speaking harshly and then feeling embarrassment over her outburst. She starts to unpack the emotional trauma that her mother has put her through and when Atticus stands up for her to her mother, she realizes that she's not alone and deserves better. And as Goldie grows and applies advice and what she's learned in therapy, Atticus realizes that he also hasn't been fair to himself and that there's more to life than just getting by. His trauma may be much older than Goldie's but still haunts him daily so they lean on each other and help each other as they grow. They were both unknowingly sinking in their own personal oceans of pain but found life rafts in each other and pulled each other to shore. Their mutual support and love for each other was so rewarding to watch unfold.
This last note is going to be kind of a spoiler so please read at your own risk:
I loved going back to the Wrench Kings and getting to know grumpy Atticus a little better. He is about to get his life turned all around by Goldie Berry. They are forced into each other's life by their friends falling in love. They may try to resist but they are meant to be.
I was also moved by some of the struggles Goldie had and how Atticus made her his priority and always built her up. She is perfect just the way she is for him even if he may have made her feel otherwise in the beginning.
Also, very creative and unsanitary use of a cucumber. And that's not a euphemism. 😂
I reread with via audio with Ryan West and Daisy Jane bringing it to life. Their duet performance really levels the story up.
I have been wanting a Atti book since meeting him in book one.
Goldie and Atticus hate each other. Atticus thinks she is a stuck up city girl. Goldie thinks he’s a smelly small town grandpa. Both their both holding onto traumas.
I didn’t think I’d love this book as much as Beau and Beck but I did! I love to watch how Atticus and Goldie’s relationship grew through out the book.
And of course the spice! Atti and his monster are 🥵🥵🥵. Daisy Janes knows how to write the spice!
Even with the spice. Daisy really pushes through some hard issues with characters. This book does discuss rape and suicide. It showed how two people can help each other. It helped normalize the importance of therapy. I can’t wait to come back to Oakcreek and see more characters.
Goldie, Beck’s best friend, starts her new life and keeps running into Atticus, one of the mechanics from Beau’s shop. Neither of them can stand the other until they are snowed in together and realize that maybe the dislike they’ve been harboring all along is actually attraction that they now can’t deny. As Goldie struggles to find her footing and really love herself before loving anyone else, Atticus realizes that letting love in and letting someone love you can actually heal so much more.
Daisy did it again. Atticus and Goldies story is amazing. The character development. The maturity of the them. I adored everything about this book. The spice was perfect and the relationship as it takes shape is so realistic and actual goals.
Daisy Jane HAS DONE IT AGAIN!! Her Wrench Kings series is one of my favorites. Atticus and Goldie couldn’t be more opposite, but the way the author brings them together is just amazing.
🔧Grumpy/sunshine 🔧Forced proximity 🔧Possessive MMC 🔧Uptight FMC (who has amazing character development) 🔧Food play (CANNOT GET THIS SCENE OUT OF MY HEAD) 🔧Peach play
When Goldie moves to be closer to her best friend Beck, she knows that she is starting over with everything in her life. She knows that she needs to make changes in order to be happy, aside from getting a new job and coming to terms with her previous relationship and the trauma that came from that.
And when Goldie keeps being the third wheel to Atticus’s fourth wheel, the two of them start to get close. But it isn’t all flowers and daisies to start – they are two completely different people, who come from two very different lives. But I think that’s inevitably what brings them together!
I loved the real talks that these characters had together – I think that was genuinely my favorite part of this book. They didn’t sugarcoat anything and were able to lean on each other during the tough times.
Daisy Jane and Ryan West do a phenomenal job voicing these characters. I felt like their narration was spot on to what I had in my mind when I read this book the first time. And LORD, when Ryan West is voicing Atticus during all of the spicy times, I AM STILL SWEATING. This man truly brought this character to life and made me fall in love all over.
I loved this book so much! The characters go from disliking each other to have some amazing chemistry! The spice was so freaking good! & the story was even better!!
5 ⭐️ 3 🌶️
did a reread of the audio! it’s even better in audio!
The Brazen one is book 2 of Wrench Kings. It’s a grumpy/sunshine, opposites attract romance. Atticus and Goldie are friends of friends. They clash right from the start. They are attracted to each other but their attitudes grate on one another. Atticus is a grumpy, stern, monster of a man, with a trouser monster to match. He is a mentor to Beau and cares for those he is close to. He’s fighting demons and doesn’t feel that he is worthy of love. Goldie feels that appearances matter and seems shallow to others. She’s smart and determined, but she has had trauma in her life that continues to haunt her. When they get snowed in at a cabin, sparks start to fly and walls come down. They get real, see each other for who they really are and enjoy each other’s company. But will it be enough once the snow clears? This story is one of love and respect, but also one of self- acceptance. The characters are relatable and likeable, having you root for their HEA. The side characters add so much to the story, and it’s great to read about Beau and Beck again. Daisy does a great job of handling therapy and trauma in a kind, respectful fashion. The Brazen One doesn’t have as many spicy scenes as I’m used to from this author, but the scenes in this book are super hot, naughty and so enjoyable! Atticus is a dirty man with some steamy kinks and Goldie is following in his footsteps. I will never look at a cucumber the same way again. The kinks, the storyline, the characters and the emotional epilogue all make The Brazen one a must read! I can’t wait to read on in the Wrench Kings series!
There were lots of things I loved about this book, despite the fact that it turned out not to be quite what I expected.
Firstly definitely check the trigger warnings for this book, but that being said, the issues that were covered and dealt with in this book were done in such a great and empathetic way. Absolute 10/10 for the positive representation of therapy in this book.
I was expecting more romance, just because of how I came about the book, but this book focuses so well on healing yourself, and being in a good enough place to actually get into a relationship that I’m not even mad about it. Our two main characters are just so beautiful overall. The resilience in overcoming both of their issues was so nice to read about and really left you feeling quite hopeful and inspired by the end of the book.
I haven’t read a book before about a couple who are in their late 30s early 40s, but I absolutely dig it. However, I totally imagined them younger in my head ngl 😂
Also, the steam in this book 🥵 For me, the only reason it wasn’t a five star was because personally I felt the pacing overall was a little bit off. I thought the book had a little bit too slow a start, and then the end came about quite quickly, however, I was not left feeling like I had missed anything either

**Audio Review** Oh, Goldie girl…The Brazen One by Daisy Jane was a small-town steamy strangers-to-lovers romance that had me blushing and happy sighing from start to finish. Goldie and Atticus battle many emotional obstacles on their journey to HEA, but together these two truly find comfort and strength. This is book 2 in Daisy’s Wrench King series, and it didn’t disappoint.
Daisy Jane and Ryan West perform this audiobook in duet-style narration. Daisy gets better and better with every book she narrates! She was spot on portraying Goldie’s vulnerabilities and insecurities which pulled at my heartstrings several times. Ryan could not have been more perfect to portray Atticus. His raspy, gruff voice depicted Atticus’ grumpy and protective persona flawlessly. Plus, both narrators turned on the HEAT with the spicy scenes.
Overall, I enjoyed this book. If you are a fan of a small-town romance with a hot greasy mechanic, a brave heroine looking for a fresh start, new job opportunities, snowed-in, leather pencil skirts, drunken truths, truck spice, found family, reliable best friends, even more steam, protecting the ones you love, overcoming the past, and a HEA that will squeeze your heart, then you will love Goldie and Atticus’ story. I always look forward to more from Daisy Jane.
Audio review The Second I saw the tension between Atticus and Goldie in The Wild One I knew I needed a story about them and Daisy Jane delivered. 🙌
This book will have you swooning one minute and blushing the next. Both characters have emotional baggage they need to work through before they can have their happily ever after. Daisy Jane did an amazing job portraying the steps each character had to take.
Not only can Daisy Jane write one spicy sweet story but she can also narrate! This book is a duet narration and narrated by Daisy Jane and Ryan West. Each narrator did a great job at portraying emotion and vulnerability. You could easily tell when they were thinking vs speaking and they brought this story to life.
I am counting down the days until Delane and Millers audio book comes out!
This book blew me away. I was not expecting the emotional journey I went on with Goldie and her past. This woman. She’s amazing. Been through hell and back, and stronger for it. And I just can’t get over how Atticus senses what she needs as she works through her own trauma, while also taking some things into his own hands 😏 Atticus coming to terms with his own secrets/past tied heavily into Goldie’s trauma and it was heartbreaking but refreshing to see two characters going through something so real. Atti is a top tier book boyfriend but I think my favorite relationship in the book is between Goldie and Edith. Can’t get enough of them! Also, let’s not forget, the spice was spectacular 🥵
Wow. Never read about a man so obsessed with a FMC’s 🍑.
I liked the first book in the series better but it was due to tropes and kinks not a lesser quality of character.
TW: Goldie has an existing ED that is triggered by her mother and an SA that occurred with her last boyfriend. Atticus’ little sister dealt with bullying and committed suicide when she was a teen.
They both have growing to do and the story is a strong voice for the benefits of therapy.
He was obsessed with her and they love each other even though it took Goldie a while to let herself admit that. Much of the story was less about their romance and more about supporting each other. That and LOTS of ass play. I’m talkin a cucumber used in very (dp) type ways 😉.

I knew as soon as I started reading this, I needed to cancel any plans for the night because I couldn't put it down.
Daisy yet again managed to beautifully intertwine emotional depth and spice flawlessly. This books give relatable characters with hot af scenarios that make it seem so realistic, and refreshing. Definitely here for the 🍑 play 😍
I think every women deserves a brazen one in real life, because boy would I love to be manhandled and cared for like Atti does for Goldie!

THIS BOOK WAS AMAZING. The story line, the plot, the smut, DONT EVEN GET ME STARTED. Im usually not into grumpy sunshine books but this was amazing I could not put it down. Highly recommend. I loved Atticus and Goldie

Book #2 of The Wrench Kings trilogy. FMC a single mid-ish 30s gal who references The Golden Girls, Sex and the City and maybe being "too old" for trendy fashion. She's figuring out her future, healing and enjoying the company of MMC sexy, grumpy, swoon-worthy Atticus. I highlighted most of the book! The spice was spicyband definitely my favorite of the trilogy. Such a realistic/relatable couple and that cucumber 🥒 scene whooo-haaaaaa 🔥
Daisy Jane did not disappoint with this one. The Brazen One is the 2nd book in her Wrench King series. This is a small town, grumpy/sunshine, steamy hot, strangers to lovers romance. Atticus and Goldie together was amazing and the banter between the two was perfect.
Daisy Jane and Ryan West perform this audiobook in duet-style narration and it was so good. I highly recommend the audio.
1. I have had it with authors the last 2 months writing these books that hit me so deeply and bring up shit I need to talk to my therapist about. Yall owe me copay money!!! But I love y’all and the books. 2. Shiiiiiit I think I’m in love with Atticus 3. Daisy Jane writes men that make me feral and I don’t even like men
Both Atticus and Goldie have emotional trauma that they have yet to overcome and what better way to help each other heal from it then by being snowed in together! That caused a spark between the two and I led to not only hot sex but to help each other heal. The ending was so beautiful! I loved that Goldie used the money towards a foundation that could’ve helped Atticus’s sister 🤍
The Brazen One is book 2 in the Wrench Kings series. This one focuses on Goldie and Atticus, with a grumpy/sunshine vibe.
Daisy Jane really knows how to mess with your emotions and turn on the heat.
Each struggling with their own personal demons, that have prevented them from being truly happy. Atticus is haunted by his past and Goldie with a toxic vision of herself.
Atticus and Goldie are golden together. I enjoyed their developing relationship and the chemistry smolders between them.
Their journey to an HEA is definitely a rough one but in the end, this story will have you crying, laughing, and ultimately rooting for Goldie and Atticus.
