We often find ourselves feeling trapped, in chains with no place to escape. However, once we realize the cage is all in our head — that we hold the key to everything our heart desires — suddenly, we are no longer prisoners of our own mind and reality.
After you break through the cage — overcome the doubt, fear and anxiety that has prevented you from experiencing life fully — you will soon discover that freedom is not as far as you thought. In fact, freedom lived within you the whole time.

I have recently gotten into contemporary poetry and this book popped up in my recommendations. I gave it a try and wow! I was not disappointed! Freebird covers complicated and profound topics in a simplistic style which makes for intuitive reading while not detracting from the meaning. So many of these poems really spoke to me, somehow capturing thoughts and feelings which I could never quite put into words myself.
Like all good poems, these have to be read more than once for the significance to truly sink in. Luckily, there is something so easy going about this author's style that the poetry just seems to flow off the page. Once you start reading it is nearly impossible to stop, as the poems blend into one another and you get lost in them. The layout and the whimsical illustrations really add to the experience; the entire book is a joy and a journey, from start to finish.
I received a free e-book copy form the author in exchange of an honest review
How do I began to explain how much I enjoyed this book.
It is no secret that contemporary poetry isn't my cup of tea. More often than not I find quite hard to hit the mark in just a couple of sentences, but this book really stood out for me.
It's hard to explain, but freebird feels almost biographical to me. All throughout his book I was thinking "Oh my god, this is totally me" or "I have felt this exact same way". A very huge portion of the poem hit really close to home, and I found myself highlighting and saving my favorite poems. Just to name a few: 'alive', 'presence', 'gratitude', and many, many more.
Something I also want to say is that as the book progressed and we got more into the other sections, the writing and poems became better. Rhymes were more poetic and better thought of, and the short poems became for concise and full of beauty.
If you, same as me, have a little bit of trouble enjoying modern poetry books, definitely give this one a chance. A heart-warming collection of notes, thought and poems that come form a vulnerable place that are extremely relatable and beautiful.
Poetry is something that when done well can truly speak to the reader. The theme and each sub theme and poems and their titles and everything about them just went right to my heart. I could relate to some and I teared up at others. It was so empowering and relieving to read these and to allow it to touch me ... to touch my soul. Definitely something I will come back to again and again in future. Thank you for writing this, for sharing this with the world. Thank you Voracious Readers Only for the opportunity to read this. I feel strong. Remember you are amazing and there is nothing you can’t do. Keep on shining.

Do you ever unravel Bit by bit Piece by piece
Some strands short Others tall
They fall before
You can catch them all - Unstable
I have always had a love – hate relationship with contemporary poetries and wondered what it would be with Freebird. But, WOW. Laura Muensterer completely aces it!! This book is a journey in itself and is filled with short yet impactful poems. In such less words they make you introspect your actions and experiences. This book is honestly beautiful inside and out. It is a must read. I’ll recommend it to everyone who loves the work of Lang Leav and Atticus.
"freebird" by Laura Muensterer is a collection of one hundred poems, the longest filling a single page and the shortest being only a few lines long. Each poem is accompanied by simple but effective line drawings, done by the writer, which illustrate the theme of the poem. The writing style is straightforward, sincere, and refreshing. The poems are free of irony, snark, cynicism, pop culture references, and all of the other affectations that have plagued 21st century writing.
Many of the poems in "freebird" concern the writer's personal struggles with anxiety, self-doubt, loss of childhood innocence, and the uncertainty of growing up in a chaotic world. Even when I cannot relate personally, I can sense that the writer is striving to express her thoughts and experiences as truthfully as she can. She does not sugarcoat any of her negative emotions and experiences, nor does she exaggerate them for dramatic effect. This is the voice of a young adult who is making an authentic and insightful attempt to understand the world and her place in it.
"freebird" is at its best when the writer looks beyond herself, and turns her perceptive eye toward the mystery and wonder of life itself. Some of the strongest poems in the book include: "naivety", a bittersweet rumination on the end of a childhood friendship; "youth", where two people, one young and one old, sit across a table from each other and realize they have more in common than they thought possible; "serenity", about the importance of living in the present moment; and "alive", which manages to say something beautiful and profound about the nature of human existence in only 43 words.
"freebird" is not afraid to plumb the depths of despair and disillusionment, and yet there is a spirit of optimism which undergirds the entire work: despite its hardships and disappointments, human life is beautiful, and worth living. The book ends on a hopeful note; the writer tells us that writing this book has helped heal her wounds, and I believe her.
I am awarding "freebird" four stars rather than five out of respect for the writer's potential. "freebird" is a good book, worthy of being purchased and read, but I know that this writer has an even better book inside of her, and I look forward to reading it.
Amidst the company of Laura Muensterer, the readers are taken back to the days of their childhood and their hearts are filled with nostalgia of the past. Muensterer’s words, paint the images of the old golden days against the backdrop of haunting modernity which has cost people their happiness and a sense of wholeness. In her poetry we find a romantic who values natures and finds meaning of life amidst the grass fields and cool breeze. Freebird is divided into five chapters, each having its significance for the readers. This poetry book really makes you sense the world around you. It makes you pause, think, unlearn and learn it all over again. Motivation plagues her poem, and it drags you across the journey of different aspects of life and brings you to something more personal and intimate: self-love. Freebird builds every part of you and teaches you how to gather those broken pieces of your existence and make meaning out of them. In this book, the loss of innocence is mourned and the importance of the phase, childhood in shaping an adult is emphasized. The poetess’s words throw you deep down the well of inhumane world, but you'll drag yourself up because she'll motivate you enough. The closest and dearest to my heart is the poem, “Buried”. The wisdom behind the words have been seeped into my heart and I took this poem as a memoir with me for a lifetime. Muensterer, explains in “Buried” that how in childhood our parents fix pieces of our life and personality but when we grow up, we are left at the mercy of our selves. Fixing those pieces gets impossible and one feels almost helpless.
All in all, this poetry book is diverse in nature. It brings various aspects of life like relationships, time, humanity and mind on a linear scale and teaches the importance of each in the world of lost innocence. If you want to navigate your way out of the absurd life, then this book is the right guide to help you locate your destination.
“Freebird”, a fantabulous collection of poetry drafted by Laura Muensterer. Laura Muensterer magnificently portrays the supreme aspects of the life through her magical words. This piece of art is divided into six chapters each represented beautifully with an enticing theme. This book basically revolves around the prime themes i.e. life, time, humanity, relationship, mind and self-love.
Once the book is opened, I bet the preamble is going to stick to your mind till the end of the book. After complete reading you are surely going to grasp a wonderful awareness of breaking down the shackles of gloominess and successfully stepping into a new happy world. This book is not only a book but it is a complete guidance and I must say “a dose of relaxation” because each and every stanza fills our heart with tranquility. It illuminates the significance of peace and delightfulness in reader’s life. The verse from the poem “Nostalgia” attracted me the most, my personal emotions were somehow attached to this amazing verse and it incredibly perked up my sentiments. "About the burst and reveal That there will never be A moment as wonderful as this again" (Laura Muensterer) This book will not specifically cast its magic on a particular individual or a specific group of people but this is personally going to hit hard every single person’s emotions and believe me it has the tendency of becoming a good friend.
This book is insightful, interesting and pleasantly ordered.
Laura Muensterer in this work provokes a thought of how our lives are. The way it’s delivered in a sweet artistic rendering on the different stages of life, makes you want to read more and more. The book made me realize how little I appreciate nature and the many chances of exploration I have wasted.
How have my life been so much about worrying of the future instead of enjoying my youthful stage of life and sadly these stages of life never come back, Never! But even with this is there are great words for the rest path of life.
My best excerpt is; “A person is like a ship, if there is nothing anchoring them down they will simply drown”. This is really how our lives are or should I say my life, with my own struggles to find balance with time, relationships and work. The book gave me an exact answer when I personally needed continuance. As a part of the continuing realized how important it is to keep memoirs.
For the past four years - all I really needed was to be a freebird; I have lost count of the number of times I felt very different from others but on reading this book I felt the similarities in our lives. Everyone will actually fit as a protagonist of this book.
To me this is the kind of work that I could read again and again whenever life needs a brake, which happens a lot of times. It’s a genuine five star rating for me.
Freebird by Laura Muensterer was exactly what I needed in this part of my life. As I am currently transitioning between the corporate world and living my life with passion and purpose, you can lose momentum. It is filled with highs and lows. It can be very frustrating and confusing. Sometimes my accomplishments and moments of joy are short lived. However, I can’t continue to let those moments pass me by because eventually we will no longer have those moments as we leave this Earth. Everything in my past no matter how amazing or hurtful has brought me to the place I am today. After reading I am grateful and welcome each day in life. Reading this has been a therapeutic experience for me. As a children’s book author, I get to spend time reading to children and can still see the magic and opportunity of success in their eyes. As an adult I have to learn to not let life bring me down on my journey. I need to push through and be an example and leader to help others to keep pushing, no matter what life throws your way. Troubles will come my way, but I will look at them from a different perspective and grow from it. Will you fly or will you let life’s challenges make you into a caged bird. I have decided that I will be a free bird and encourage others to fly.
It made me full of mixed emotions. While reading, this book was taking me back to my childhood’s nature which was full of joy & open-mindedness. “Freebird” is a collection of each phase of our life from happiness to sorrow, from open-minded to close-minded and from real personality to be show off. How we are becoming so insensitive and living in a virtual world, is explained in such a way that you can relate to your life. Now I am realizing why I have started giving so much importance to success which eventually should be given to happiness. “Freebird” will take you back from the virtual world to practical life you lived. The majority of the poems are related to our changed state of mind, our manipulated nature of being happy and the importance of love in our life. Our internal desire of becoming more creative is getting and really starts getting disappeared, which I never ever imagined. To climb up the ladder of success we are leaving behind the most amazing experiences of our life. This book is a life-changing journey of every by recapping each moment of life and living with a more meaning full goal. To open the door of happiness, a more loving relationship and to give equal importance to each phase of life, I am going to read it again.
This is an excellent and therapeutic book filled with short poems that talk about challenges that people go through in all the phases of life. The world has become so chaotic and un-accommodative of the young generation, a feeling that lingers in every young person's life. Similarly, Laura expresses the same sentiments from her poems, and she does it so well that it seems like a personal reflection. The highs and lows, the challenges people are going through trying to look for employment, those in a profession, the frustrations they go through trying to make it in life. The poems are a culmination of life issues faced by both young people and adults and the irony of it; the two parties are being faced with the same problems, meaning they are no different only age and the experience the older party has. The book is more of a collection of notes rather than a collection of poems to the current generation from the eyes of a young lady who has been hit by issues relating to humans. How humans are engineered in terms of anxiety, doubt, confidence, and more so a low self-esteem. The poetry book is a necessary read for all young and older adults because it surely is a reflection of most people.
Parts of the experiences may have been told before but never with such freshness, power and intensity. freebird by Laura Muensterer is a collection of about one hundred poems which are passionately written and emotionally charged. This book brings positive insight into life through themes such as time, humanity, relationships, mind and self-love and their necessity in our daily lives. There’s more to freebird than just being a book; it's therapeutic and meditative, Laura Muensterer relates with the day-to-day uncertainties we face and how we should overcome them, whatever you do don’t let the darkness consume you. It’s a phrase that gives you the urge to move forward no matter the underlying circumstances. freebird provides remedial guidance and encouragement making our lives better and make it easier for us to make sense of the world around us. freebird takes you through the transition from childhood to adulthood, the challenges and insecurities you might encounter and how to rebuild yourself to the best version of you. Leading to self-discovery, true and pure enlighten, truly embracing this book’s Changing concept. Choose to be a freebird and soar high with a new chance to grow.
If you are ever looking for a thought-provoking, relatable and sweet collection of poems to read in your free time, Freebird by Laura Muensterer is a wonderful read. It features a collection of about 100 poems, each accompanied by simplistic yet effective drawings. This book includes poems on a varied list of topics including self-love, adulthood, relationships and humanity. It has a very realistic and honest take on many serious issues such as anxiety and the struggles of growing up, explained excellently through the poems. Having always been a fan of poetry, this book was an absolute treat to read. Despite being a poetry enthusiast, I don’t always find poems that I can relate to so well and this book comprised of a large number of poems that resonated with me. On the other hand, I think this book would also be a great option for those looking to begin reading poetry as well because it is easy to understand yet still powerful to make one ponder on the poems. ‘Awakening’, ‘Flawed’, ‘Fog’ and ‘Presence’ were some of my favourites, just to name a few. Overall, I’m glad that I read this book as it was well worth my time.
I received this poetry collection in e-copy format from the author in exchange for an honest review, thank you!
This collection is divided into 6 sections; life, time, humanity, relationships, mind and self-love. I much prefer poetry collections that focus on the self, mental health especially. A lot of poetry collections I read all focus on love and failed relationships, so it was nice to read some poetry mainly focusing on finding and bettering yourself.
Like all collections I have read, some of the poems are always hit or miss for me and while I liked some of these, a lot of them I didn't really connect with. I am not a massive fan of rhyming in modern poetry either.
I really loved all the illustrations throughout, they definitely brought some uniqueness to this collection.
Overall, if you like poetry with themes of self-love, mental illness and discovering who you are, I would recommend trying this out and seeing what you think!
A beautifully written, soothing book of poetry that clears up your head and makes you feel fresh and enlightened. In very simple words the author has delightfully portrayed the wonders of life. It shows how the life works, how childhood and adulthood are so different and the former being so much easier than the latter, how human life keeps evolving; like a caterpillar leaving behind his cocoon to be a butterfly, how our life is a book and we are its author. The thing that the author wants us to know mainly is, no matter what, we need to learn to cherish life and its small details and love nature’s beauty. We need to appreciate life, not worry about future, live in the present and accept life’s uncertain character. Have no regrets in the end, just happy memories. The layout and the sketch work in the book are very eye-catching and unique. It is a wonderful and pleasing book. Do not miss this wave of fresh breeze!
When we talk about freedom there is usually that urge in each and every one of us, wanting to escape from our social responsibilities. Freedom in this sense is socially bound and is often curtailed in life’s unending uncertainties. However, my thinking about self-freedom changed when I first came across Laura Muensterer’s master piece ‘Freebird’. Through what turns out to be personal experiences Laura gives freedom a new light. Through her poems she argues that freedom starts from within, that you need to break from your York of problems, insecurities and uncertainties to experience it fully. I won’t spill everything, grab a copy of your and learn to experience freedom from within yourself. Remember, “the world is a canvas. You can either choose to be at war or you can make the conscious decision to go out and explore (it.).”
It has been a while since I saw this book the “Freebird” in my recommendation list. Then I decided to read and see what it contains. Here comes my surprise, have you ever read a book and when you try to take a break you can’t? This was my situation after I started reading this book. The entire book is a collection of poems that cover a wide range of topics ranging from anxiety, love, relationship, the general state of beings and self-love that are not only entertaining but also mind absorbing. The author has systematically written the poems and has also placed images on every poem that depicts the content in the poem. I lack words that can describe the author for she is such a talented and skillful in her work. If you love poetry try this book and you will see the value for your money. I recommend this book to all.
“Maybe home is a person Or simply a state of mind”
"Freebird" is a collection of contemporary poetry divided into six categories related to the experience of living: life, time, humanity, relationships, mind, and self-love. The book reflects the sensitive nature of the author by expressing her outlook on life, she is able to put into words all those feelings we experience through childhood and early adulthood. Is the kind of book you go back every now and then to remember that our existence is more than just flesh and water. As soon as I read one of the first poems, “Illuminate”, I felt connected, understood, as if I was talking to an old friend. I could relate to the somehow abstract scenarios depicted in the poems, written in simple and powerful way every young adult that has grown in this era can relate and reflect on the experience of existence.
Freebird is a poetry book written by Laura Muensterer. The author has used this book to convey messages that address various issues that are affecting society. The issues addressed by the poems range from love, relationship, anxiety, betrayal, self-judgment, trust, and most importantly freedom. The author has considered placing images in each poem that depicts what the poem is all about. I have liked the book and this is my cup of coffee. I can't wait to read more of such encouraging books by the author. Highly recommended for all.
I love the organization and the illustrations. Freebird consists of sized, easy to digest poems. Sometimes I wished for a longer or deeper poem. For example the poem entitled “infinite” only consists of two lines: “My mind is a galaxy/It lives in the universe.” Additionally many poems lacked a consistent rhythm or poetic form. But overall, there were nice themes of escaping, reminiscing, and connections to nature. Some of my favorites were “Alive,” “lifetime,” “evolution,” “dead end,” and “concept.” This was a nice collection.
I loved it, short sweet and to the point. I loved that it was split up into sections and you could dip in and out to suit your needs and purpose. The sort of book you could open at any page and relate to it.
The poems that particularly resonated with me were Existence Fog Change Haven Phases Lifetime Delusion Contact Oxygen Busy Worthy, and Therapy.
I truly recommend this.
I received a copy from voracious readers only for an honest review
I absolutely adored the visuals that accompanied the poems. They were unique to anything I have seen in another poetry book. I really enjoyed the themes of enjoying life although at times it felt a bit repetitive. Overall, freebird is a lovely and inspiring collection of work.
I received this book from the author via Voracious Readers. I was so glad I asked to receive this book of poetry as I enjoyed the poems, they resonated with me in many aspects and I loved the little drawings depicting the poems. Would like to read more from Author.
I loved this book of contemporary poems. So many of them felt like Laura Muensterer had been inside my head and had written about it. Beautiful poetry, touching themes. I'd definitely recommend.
[I was given a free copy of the book by the author in exchange for a review through Voracious Readers Only]
freebird is a charming poetry collection of meditations on life, society, body, mind, and soul based off Muensterer’s personal perspectives. Her brief verse is insightful and relatable and I stopped to pause and reflect on a few poems after I read them. I could easily see them in a nice frame in someone’s living room or on a poster in a classroom and I thought the cute drawings on each page were a nice touch also. I liked the blank verse poems the most because the rhyming scheme on some of the others felt a little odd and stilted at times but overall I really enjoyed reading this.
