Superworld 2: An Alternate Reality Fantasy

Rate this book
Two teenagers uncover a conspiracy within the hallowed halls of a superhero academy—and learn what it truly means to be heroes—in this original series.

Ten years ago, the Empath known as the Black Death battled the Legion of Heroes and laid waste to a continent. Infused with the blood of countless superhuman victims, he struck down the Legion one by one, until only its leader, Captain Dawn, remained. When the smoke finally cleared, the Black Death was vanquished—but at a terrible cost to both Captain Dawn and the world . . .

Now, the students and staff of Morningstar Academy hope Matt Callaghan, who they believe is a clairvoyant, will lead them to a bright and glorious future. Unfortunately, Matt is a fraud, completely powerless and having so far managed to deceive everyone, even Captain Dawn, with vague predictions and bald-faced lies. But now the Legion is starting to reform, and with the fate of the world at stake, it won’t be long before Matt’s lies start catching up to him.

Only one person knows Matt’s Jane Walker, the sole Empath enrolled at the Academy. Determined to break free from the Black Death’s shadow, Jane has fought harder than anyone to earn a place in the new Legion’s ranks, and her ambition and abilities have earned her the attention of Captain Dawn—though perhaps not in the way Jane had wished. For inside her burns something hungry . . . and dark.

As Jane begins to embrace her identity and Matt continues to hide his, unknown forces will pull them into an invisible war. And when Morningstar’s secrets are ultimately revealed, there’s no turning back.

The second volume of the hit alternate-history series—with more than a million views on Royal Road—now available on Kindle, Kindle Unlimited, and Audible!

"Rule number one of being a clairvoyant, never interrupt when your client is doing your job for you.

Where Part One was heavy on the world building, part two dives into that world and charges forward. The characters are further developed, evolving into engaging heroes that are part of a community of friends who are well worth cheering for as they rain to be the planet's future defenders.

The book has some unexpected twists as well as some turns that feel somewhat inevitable... as much because they follow the pattern of good storytelling, as because they simply make sense and are the natural conclusion of the events playing out... interestingly so are some of the surprises.

Matt and Jane each, in their own way, grow and mature, taking ownership of their personal truths and identities. If confidence is earned, sometimes in hard fought battles, prepare for these two to earn their confidence, all while dealing with the cliche about be careful about meeting your heroes.

A lot less good than the previous novel. The plot holes start to get bigger and bigger. The villain upon his reveal which was very well done, sucks, he's like comical evil, more caricature than person. Also time travel, maybe a multiverse, not entirely sure. Which I hate on a personal level and I truly believe is where creativity goes to die. You get the emotional engagement by killing off your main and then the happy end by going back in time to undo it. except now nothing matters because everything can be reversed.
The middle drags a little and the last second romance injection is incredibly weak, do it properly or leave it out.
The characters are still great, the dialogues often good and funny and the reverse superman setup is still intriguing.
Overall I loved the first novel this one is OK.

insanely hype, like heart pumping hype. probably the most hyped I've felt this year. the story was quite interesting despite everything. The threads Keyworth tried to weave certainly worked and I certainly picked up on them before it became too obvious but not too early and not too late. the powers and the twist were interesting.

once again a fun, wrenching listen. an excellent narrator on the audiobook and a capable writer.

I do have a few nit-pickings with the story but I think they managed to stay uh less relevant to the main plot so I can keep myself quiet.

I'm leaning towards 5 stars on Goodreads but that may change down to a four as I sit on this and continue onwards.

Well then....

Another interesting installment. Matt the human and Jane the empath, chewing bubble gum while kicking ass, and they were well out of gum. Decent world building, good character development, well, on the hero side. The Black Death, he sketched out on toilet tissue that managed to get wet, and Keyworth salvaged what little was left. He was probably the worse villain I've read in quite some time, comically bad, but without any of the humor. For fudge sake, his most witty remark was to quote Achmed the Dead Terrorist.... I'll Kill You!

That said, curious to see where the story goes in the next book/part.

Absolutely Super

Very rarely does a sequel manage to continue adding to its world building and character depth as this one had. Keyworth weaves insurmountable foes with loveable protagonists and obstacles alike. Most notably he ties together an ending that is altogether satisfying but leaves you aching for more. Can’t wait to see more

DNF 42%. When a book revolves around a mystery which, even to the details, is obvious — there is no tension.

I can't be the only one who sees the villain's true nature as well as the exact mechanism that will be used to nullify him. It sucks the life from the story as the main characters struggle to solve such an obvious puzzle.

I’m still hooked. The story just keeps evolving and enthralling me. I loved the character development and way the author wraps up this installment. I am super curious to see where the story goes in the next book!

Hoo ah bullshit

Vague writing generic characters and gun nut stand yurr groond type mentality. Nothing clever or interesting. I very rarely stop reading without finishing the book but I stopped reading this one.

Good read

This was a fairly good resolution to several questions in the previous book and a good setup for later books in the series.
