Can an unexpected road trip lead you to the life you’ve always wanted but never knew you could have?

Bea

I’m a workaholic CEO on the cusp of releasing my life’s work.
I’ve fought tooth and nail to get where I am, but now my anxiety is threatening to pull me under.
The future isn’t something I’ve ever given much thought to…
Until I meet Riggs.

Riggs

Being forced to retire from professional rugby wasn’t something I ever saw coming.
I’ve shut out my friends and family and moved away from everything I know.
It’s time to start over, I just don’t know how to begin again.
Meeting Bea wasn’t in my plans, but I can’t deny I hope she’s in my future.

When the adventure of a lifetime presents itself, can we both jump in with two feet? Or will we be too stuck in the past to see what’s right in front of us?

The Detour contains such big, important components in life: mental health representation, self discovery & awareness, and friendships & support systems.
This chance meeting of two people was perfect. They found, what they didn’t even know they needed, in each other. The Detour journey of Riggs and Bea taking a step back, healing, and figuring out their lives purposes was beautiful.
Samantha balanced those components out so well with spice, too. I can’t wait to read on and see what comes next!

I adored this book A LOT, this was a well deserved 5 stars. It was fast paced to read, I didn’t want to put it down.
Bea is a CEO, she spends her life working. Riggs a professional rugby player had a bad accident and he can’t play anymore. He is having a depression. They both don’t know what to do next with their life. One day they met each others.
I had several feelings while reading: it was funny, light; love, freedom. The Romance was well written, I had butterflies, and there were also spice.
I was smiling with Bea & Riggs pov with how they thought. It started to get deeper, I even cried. Their journey gave me hope and strength.
If you’re looking for romance, some joy, some hope, some strength and a feeling of freedom, this book is for you !
I highly recommend you to add it to your TBR.

Quick Review

To me this was phenomenal. I went into it blindly and I am so happy that I did that. This book was so perfect with such a strong plot and the topic it puts light on. I won't go spoiling it for you by mentioning much but in reality this is one of the masterpiece among all the books I've read so far.

I loved this story. I really enjoyed how Thomas set the story up in the beginning. She gave insight into the character’s lives before they enter each other’s orbits. I loved the focus on mental health and how each character recognized their struggles and worked to overcome them.
Their encouragement and support of each other was so heartwarming.
Throughout the story, Riggs and Bea try and fight their connection because they don’t feel like they’re in the right place to be pursuing a relationship. But they get to a point where each person realizes they don’t want to fight it anymore.
If you’re looking for a sweet romance with a positive vibe, you need to read this one!

Bea: Bernadette Ada Ladell is a successful businesswoman, CEO of BeaDazzled, a company she founded and built from scratch, an app developer - games and photo editors! But her ultimate goal was to introduce MentalMatch, an all-in-one app to aid the people dealing with mental health issues! And she accomplished it! And that's what got her anxiety issues kicked in full gear! Thank goodness.. she had Riggs by then!

Riggs: Riggs Michael Kellar, a professional rugby player, but retired from the profession forever due to an accident, an injury to head, that eventually led him to depression! He's a wonderful human, caring and attentive, kind and helpful!

Two very talented and successful personalities, though from very different backgrounds and phases in their lives (one who's at the peak of her success and the other who believes he's hit rock bottom), ends up meeting each other and connecting over their common interest- helping others who struggle dealing with their mental health issues!! It was really interesting to see them get to know each other and how they impacted each other! The way they helped deal with their own issues.. the transparency in their relationship.. it's all really commendable! I'm not a huge fan of FWB tropes, but this one didn't hurt! If anything, I enjoyed seeing them fall in love eventually, or rather I should say, see them come to terms with their actual feelings for each other!

I really liked this book a lot!! It's a quick read.. relatable.. easy to connect book with some spicy romance! The topic it highlights, mental health, is actually needed to be spoken about more.. and the author has done that so well with this book!! I can't thank you enough @flyingpigpr to bring to me book 2 in this series for ARC reading, for which I picked this book up in the first place! Can't wait to read it!

Tropes:
•Mental health representation
•Friends with benefits
•Dual POV
•Road trip romance
•Close proximity

This is the story of an app developer and an ex-rugby player who meet and discover a shared commonality despite their very different backgrounds. I liked the road trip and I thought Bea and Riggs had some good heat going on. The mental health aspect was interesting as this isn't a subject I've read about in a romance before. A quick light read with some steamy scenes!

I received an ARC from the author and am voluntarily leaving a review.

This was a fast paced read. I loved Bea's name. Such a retro choice. Made like her immediately. She was fiercely independent but also struggled with anxiety. I loved the anxiety representation of Bea and the depression representation from Riggs. Riggs had to completely figure out a new course in life due to his injuries sustained in Rugby. Bea and Riggs were literally what the other needed and their road trip was such a joy to read. Definitely a "right place, right time" type of situation. The spice was moderate and the main characters had really good energy. Definitely add this one to your TBR.

DNF at 20%.

I've never heard of someone so aggressively trying to fix their mental health. The excess focus on sex just breaks the narrative flow. Their first kiss seems out of the blue, without rhyme or reason.

I've read better-written books. This isn't for me.

This book is everything I didnt know I needed. Riggs is a former rugby player struggling with a sudden retirement and bea is a workaholic that is feeling a little lost. The only thing they both know is they are passionate about mental health. A roadtrip turns out to be the "detour" they both need. The mental health rep in Samantha's books are like nothing I have ever seen. The way that she uses the struggles to make these characters relatable. But also to show that even in the worst days there is still light is truly beautiful. These two characters were everything I needed. The bonds they have with other characters is truly beautiful. I cant wait to see where this series goes.

This book is so powerful! I love Bea and Riggs so much. They both start out struggling with what comes next in their lives, and decide to go on a roadtrip to find themselves. I love the mental health representation in this book it’s done so well and watching them grow with those struggles was so powerful!

This book is so corny it’s insane. Like too corny. Very cringe. I’m all for mental health awareness but this is wild.
