And I have more to say later!!
This book was the hair-raising part one culmination! I am trying so hard to be chill and wait for the next one. I have gotten attached to Remy and her coworker.
This is a hill of beans though to be stuck with so long! Cliffhanger ! Come on Ambrose! I know you will make it tense, scary, but damn good !!

The Haunting of Winslow Manor
by Ambrose Ibsen
I think this was the best of the three books I've read so far. The end finished with a twist. Same main characters and new story but based on past books main themes. Good creepy story.

The first twenty five pages of this is the scariest chapter I have read in any book ever, (humble brag alert) and I've read a lot of horror novels. The atmosphere and tension and that GD thing staring down from the GD window scared the shit outta me. Four days later and I'm still way creeped out.

The Beckoning Dead is a fantastic series. The first two books were great reads but this one takes it to new heights. It checks all my horror boxes with tons of backstory and history being discovered, the ghosts or beings are original and genuinely creepy, good characters that I don't hate, and some serious fist pumping at the sky while yelling "WHY!!!!!" cliffhanger endings that make me sincerely yearn for the next book. The Haunting of Winslow Manor is the best of the series so far and I need book four like right now!

That ending!…Please nooooooooooooooooooo

Ooh, after taking a squiz at Ambrose Ibsen on Fantastic Fiction I see this might be a continuing series of perhaps more than 4 books as I initially thought. Yay!

This is such a fantastic spooky series and getting spookier with every book.

Each book has an amazing cliffhanger and this entices the reader to pick up the next one.

Onto book 4 but I don’t wanna start it because I know what’s going to come and I don’t wanna know. I’m going to sob, I know I will.

Bittersweet

What an ending! Any who have ever seen my reviews know I say nothing about the book at all. This is to be sure that anyone that sees it needs to experience every bit for themselves. That being said if you're reading this you know. Our biggest loss. I still have tears and questions. Mr. Ibsen has always been THE ONLY ONE who has scared the shit out of me before I cried. Rightfully belongs as the best horror author behind King in my opinion.

Warum? Wozu?? Und die letzte Seite... naja. Hätte ja nun auch nicht sein müssen.

Für mich ist nach wie vor der 1. Band der beste.

Knowing Ibsen's style, I'm not surprised he went a certain direction with a character in this book - although I was hoping he'd resist. 😒

Definitely hoping.

Either way, for some reason this is my favorite book of the three (there is still a 4th to read next). It's not in a large and creepy asylum, it's not the scariest, it's not the goriest, but there's something about it and the research and pacing that just makes it the more interesting of the first three in the set.

I NEED THE NEXT BOOK NOW!
I said the second book was a lull but this one picked up with a huge BANG.
And you expect me to sleep?!
HA bye.
I sat up and actually bonked my head gasping at the end, and read the last 2 chapters again to gather my jaw 😂

I rated book 1 & 2 kind of low because I felt like there were just so many holes. I actually enjoyed this book of the series though since some things came together, but there was a cliffhanger in this one posed appropriately.

Also außer am Ende.

The third book in the series, this time we are going to Sadie’s mom house: WInslow Manor. Sadly, this wasn’t the best book.

I was totally into this series so I kept reading them on and on. While this review will be posted on the 9th, that is only because my blog is quite full with scheduled posts again. I actually finished the book on the 1st (and the other 2 books a few days before that).

However, this book just was a disappointment. So much talking and yappering, and while I know it is important because we need to know what is going on, we need to get all the details on Sadie’s mom… and what she really is. But come on, it wasn’t scary for most of the book. It started off well, then had maybe a few scares here and there but very few, and then it takes our duo up to 60%+ to finally go to the home. There it was on and off scary. I just had expected, given what lurks there, that it would be 100% frightening, but eh.

I am glad that we got information, but it was just a bit too much, would have been better if it had been spread more over the other two volumes. Less info-dump and more organically/natural. But we learn what mom is, how mom and dad met, and what happened afterwards. Which made me a) happy but also b) WTF? This plot is just weird now.

Plus, I had expected this book to be the end. Maybe it is? But I am just very confused. It would be awesome if this was the end, but I have a feeling there may be more coming given the ending. It is a shame as it would have been cool to end it here. It begins with Beacon House, the one in which Sadie gets her powers back (if they ever truly left), then we go to the asylum for more information, and then it all ends at Sinistrari and Sadie’s mom’s house. Instead it doesn’t really end. Maybe Sadie goes to Italy? Haha.

While I get that Sadie didn’t want to open the damned box, I just got pissed at how long it took her to open the box. Yes, it is scary, but really, it was just frustrating as I wanted to know what was in the box and I just found it weird she would chicken out.

The ending was good up until the last few sentences, then I just wanted to scream!

All in all, I am just not sure what to think of this book. I will give it 4 stars because there were still things I loved, I flew through the book. But I sadly just can’t give it 5 stars like the other 2 books. It just missed something.. and I thought it would be over after this one.

The third offering in this series (of I don't know how many?) was a solid 4 🌟. The only reason I didn't give it a fraction of a star is due to the ending. The three books, thus far, are a continuation of the overall story arc, but books 1 & 2 had solid endings, even though you knew there was more to the story. Book 3 did have a somewhat solid ending but not solid enough for me. Maybe I just didn't like the revelation that this ending brought. I don't want to have spoilers, but to me, it felt too close to being a cliffhanger. I know, fingers 🤞🏻, this story continues, but now I'm caught up with the available books and must wait to see where Sadie goes next. Maybe I just didn't like how it ended, or maybe I didn't like that I didn't see it coming. If the latter, I suppose that means kudos to the author. 😆
Again, my only complaint was some of the obtuse words used. But I've become used to it and find it less of an annoyance. I still think the author shouldn't use archaic vocabulary, as I feel it distracts from the flow of the story. But that's just my crappy opinion.
Anyway, overall, I enjoyed the book. I've enjoyed the series so far. And I can't wait until the author puts out book #4!

Great ending!

I thought this was the last in the series but so happy I was wrong!

Spoilers*

Im not happy August is gone..considering he was there to help Sadie and had very little other reason for being there. But I had a feeling he wouldn't make it out of this book alive. I also knew it wasn't August she was leaving the house with. It was just too easy an escape. Bravo to Ibsen..again. This was def the best book in the series. The monster in this series is movie worthy. My only criticism is Sadies reasoning for staying in the hidden library when the wheelchair was blocking her escape. It felt forced. Knowing August was in even more danger than just being in the house should have pushed her to do...anything. Anything other than look through the books. Other than that..great book, great series, please hurry and write the next!

The Beckoning Dead Series: Book 3

The Haunting of Winslow Manor by Ambrose Ibsen is the gripping conclusion to the haunted house trilogy following librarians Sadie and August. After their harrowing investigation into Rainier Asylum, the two dive deeper into a shadowy cult that holds dark secrets tied to Sadie’s past. Their search leads them to a desolate manor hidden deep in the woods, where the answers they seek come with terrifying consequences. As they unravel the mysteries of the manor and its eerie inhabitants, Sadie is forced to confront painful truths about her origins.

I absolutely loved this series! It is a quick yet thrilling read! The Haunting of Winslow Manor was a fitting, suspenseful finale that delivered plenty of scares and tied up loose ends beautifully. The haunted house atmosphere was chilling, and the tension kept me hooked until the very last page. The ending left a question unanswered, with a small cliffhanger that makes me eager for more. Hopefully, there will be another installment! Maybe?!

3.5 stars rounded up

I like Ambrose Ibsen. He's one of my favorite authors putting stuff out consistently. This is probably my least favorite series of his. The protagonist is a sore spot. She's supposed to be pretty bright, but her reasoning is poor-- and that's putting it charitably. I don't have much sympathy for the situations in which she finds herself.

Ibsen telegraphs the plot here more than usual. It undercuts the suspense. Plus, compared to some of his other protagonists, I just don't hold much affection for Sadie.

The atmosphere is terrific as usual, though. He's great at laying that on thick.

Band gibt.

This gave us a much larger peek into Sadie’s past and dived deeper into the craziness that is her mother. This is my favorite so far of the series because of how much I felt the story grew. It wasn’t just a book about a haunted house, or haunted asylum. It was a book with a purpose that added a haunted house in for kicks. The ending… oh my goodness the ending. Can’t wait to see how this story finishes!

First off, that ending, rude... just rude

That aside, the series is starting to feel a little long in the tooth despite the spooky atmosphere Ibsen projects into his books. It certainly seems as though its starting to come to a head with the recent discoveries but if it draws out too much more I fear its going to lose its impact.
At this point I'm invested enough in Sadie's story to see how the next book goes.

I had such a hard time with the main characters in this trilogy. They can't make up their minds if they are going to save the world or be cautious and save themselves, leaving much up to chance. It was an interesting concept and I liked the almost ending. The very ending I didn't like, at first, but I'm appreciating it more as it settles.

Oh my! This is insane in the best way!

I can not even grasp the ending of this book! I thought Winslow House would be the end of the tale! Obviously, l was quite mistaken! Now I will be white-knuckled until the next instalment! Love Ibsen's writing so much!

Wow

I was not able to put this book down. The plot, characters, story line; it feels like you are living in the story with the characters, witnessing the events first-hand. 10/10 absolutely recommend.
