DNF @ 50% p101/200 Chapter 29(Camilla)
So, originally I put this book down because it was just getting tedious.
There was too much going on.
A new relationship I didn’t enjoy very much.
Subterfuge all around.
Multiple plot lines playing out at once.
And the sex, though hot and smutty, was not hitting the way I needed it to to distract me from all of that other shit.

So it’s gonna be a no.
I knew when I put it down I wouldn’t be coming back, but I really wanted to give myself the chance to get back into it. See if my mood changed in the way it needed to to start enjoying it again.
Nope.
Unfortunately, I don’t really give a fuck what happens next and I’m not gonna go into the new year with that hanging over my head.
🤷🏻‍♀️
I like the first book, though.

As long as one doesn’t take these books too seriously, I thought it was the makings of a hella fun duet. The heroine is snarky, brazen and a whole lot of outrageous. When you throw a whole mix of monsters in the mix not only does Cami make the most of it, she takes it in stride and just starts claiming monsters as her very own. Turns out Cami’s not just a boring little human barely scraping by, instead she’s the last one of her bloodline destined to be monster slayers. Destiny or not, Cami is determined to save the world especially if that means giving up her studio apartment and shitty waitressing gig. I mean how can you not love her. This book picks up pretty much in the action and where the last books cliffy leaves you. Not only is the setting new, Cami manages to claim three more men giving her a harem of 5. There is some action which I enjoyed but the duels with the two enemies in the book were kinda lackluster if you ask me. Given how short the book is I found it to be a bit overloaded with sex but there was such fun and so many crazy antics that made up for it in plot and originality. These were both really quick reads for me but made for a really awesome read particularly on this rainy/snowy Monday.

Book: Monster Keeper
Read By: Ebook
Author: Eve Newton
Genre: Fantasy, Romance
Recommend: Yes

My feelings:

The pages of this book were filled with an exhilarating duet, a wild ride of adventure and humor. The heroine, Cami, was a fiery spirit with a love for the outrageous and a knack for taking on even the most ferocious monsters. But as it turns out, she's not just your average struggling human - she's the last remaining member of a bloodline destined to be monster slayers. With determination and courage, Cami is ready to fulfill her destiny and save the world, even if it means giving up her small studio apartment and crappy waitressing job. And who wouldn't root for her? The story picks up right where the previous cliffhanger left off, plunging us back into the action-packed world of monster hunting. As Cami adds three more men to her already impressive harem, we are introduced to new settings and thrilling challenges. While there is no shortage of steamy encounters, I couldn't help but feel that the duels with Cami's enemies lacked intensity and depth. However, the book more than makes up for it with its unique plot and crazy antics, keeping me entertained from start to finish.

This was such a fun spicy adventure and I loved how it ended! I would even love to hear the adventure of their daughter.

It was okay until...

So let me come right out and say I didn't finish it. I read book one and started getting frustrated mid way thru. I powered on. Book two came out and I waited for the annoyance to pass before trying to read it. I made it to 43%. Don't read any further if you hate spoilers.

In the end of book one Camilla dies. She is killed by Venulo. In book two he is no longer old and a withered husk. He killed her. Within minutes of seeing him she sleeps with him. I was done. This girl is ruled by her lady bits and usually I am here for it. But it was a bit excessive in this book. She has zero self respect and everyone around her has hurt her, used her, or lied to her and she just continues with her head in the clouds, ruled by her kitty cat. At least if she had the brains to accompany it I would have happily pushed on because who doesn't love monster peen?! If you are cool with that then this is the one for you. If you want a book where the FMC gets it on AND uses her brain then maybe skip this one. I have rarely stopped mid book but I realize if I have to talk myself into continuing, generally it is not worth it. I read for entertainment, not frustration.

eh

I wanted to like this duo so much, but I just couldn’t. The fmc, Cami, is allegedly a bad*ss, but she is actually just really annoying. I barely finished this one and I regret it.
*spoilers*

She has a “reason” for being so obsessed with s*x due to her nature, but the fact that she basically ignores her original two lovers is extremely bothersome. Even worse, forgiving the man who killed her and getting it on with HIM was so frustrating.

Perhaps worst of all was the whole time travel nonsense. It was convoluted for no real reason and the characters who supposedly are on Cami’s side (her mates and daughter) lying to her was annoying and unnecessary.

Now, the good. I loved the monsters, though did we really need so many vampires? The kraken was fun and including a human mate really made me happy until that got ruined too. The spice was pretty good, though the writing was a little silly sometimes. Anytime someone writes “sexily,” it just makes me giggle. The story itself was a little plot driven, which I appreciate, even in mostly spice novels. I also LOVED how there were relationships amongst the male characters, too! I love when they can come together to protect their mate.

All in all, it’s not one I’ll come back to, but it’s worth a read if you have nothing better to do.

This story dives right back into the action headfirst from where Slayer left off. The comedy and banter between the vampires has me giggling and the steam between our darling Silas and the new/ancient vampire Venulo is like molten lava and beyond hot. And when there's group scenes oh my! I'm surprised the smoke detectors didn't go off in my home!
I'm no good with words. I'm no good writing reviews, all I can say is I blooming loved it and for you to read it....how much did I love it? I read it in KU and because that's a library I've gone a bought it to keep and I've just downloaded the first book on Audible so I can listen to the fabulous smutness that this series contains.

The writing has not improved. Still very shallow and characters just do things with no explanation. There’s absolutely no emotional connection between characters and there’s no romancing happening. They just fuck and that’s the relationship.

This book introduced way too many plot lines and characters/relationships. Time travel is a thing, which is very difficult to do well. There’s just too much happening and not enough explanation.

SOOOOOO GREAT

These 2 books were amazingly wonderful!! I am so grateful I read ‘em & you will be also! This story has so much imagination, courage & crazy adventures plus the most perfect HEA. She ends up w/ all her monstrous men. Lots & LOTS of steamy sexy scenes, MF, MMF, MM, MMMMF. SOOOOOO GOOD!!!

The only thing that kept me going for so long was the smutt.
But holy shit the story line is crap. It's written like a child. The timeline nonsense made no sense.
Cami talking about her 'trauma' was soooooo not realistic. Wtf.
The plot is there and would be sooo good but it was executed poorly.
It felt like no effort was put into this. 🥹

Ok, glad it was just a 2 book series

Still felt a lot like fanfic from tth. Not a bad story, glad it was rh/wc with monster appendages, but definitely just a quick, mindless read - which is ok once in a while

Pass me a fan whilst I clutch my pearls

Both of these books give a lighthearted smut-filled enjoyable easy read. Camilla and her band of 'sweet' monsters give the reader plenty of spice with double peens and tentacles all thrown in. Not forgetting the fangs.
