Harris didn't want to spend fourteen hours on the road during a storm, but when he hears about a dog in need of a home a few states away, he makes the trek. Not long after his journey home, he passes a bus stop with a person who doesn't even look alive.

When Jesse snuck out of the trailer in the dead of night, he didn't have a plan. He just needed to get away. And after an hour of walking, he realizes how stupid he was to leave on foot. Just because he wasn't going to die at the hands of his ex tonight doesn't mean he won't freeze to death on his way out. Curled up in the corner of a bus stop, he closes his eyes and waits for peace to finally find him.

But when a strong man picks him up and puts him inside a warm pickup truck, he has to wonder if maybe an angel found him after all. And good ol' vigilante justice is the only thing that makes Jesse feel safe. Well, that and the man he aches to call Daddy.

This Daddy/boy romance is sweet and sexy with some dark moments and a happy ever after.

It almost seems a bit like I'm having no luck with my choice of books. But I actually chose this one even though I knew it wasn't going to be that good. I'd read some negative things in the reviews, but I've stumbled across this book several times now and the plot was just too perfect for me, so I couldn't ignore it any longer.

Daddy-kink with age-gap and hurt-comfort, yes sign me up ...

In fact, this book falls short of its potential, but it's not bad. It is well written, reads smoothly and is interesting enough to hold my attention.
Overall, I would say it's too short. More words would be needed for the trauma Jesse suffered to make it really emotionally realistic, or to evoke more emotion while reading.
I think, or simply hope, that the author's intention was to tell such a difficult trauma as lightly as possible and not to make the story too melodramatic.
For me that's ok, I'm personally so wired that I don't like to talk about things and prefer to forget them, so in the case of this book I'm probably fine with the fact that a lot is left in the dark, or simply not an issue for the relationship between Jesse and Harris.
Still, it doesn't really fit with a Daddy/boy relationship and the majority of readers just won't be excited about it.

Not a series that will interest me further.

⭐️ 2/5 — OTT even for me, and that’s saying something 🙈😅
🌶 1.5/5 — Lighter than I prefer 🍃🍂

I picked this up craving a soft, comforting Daddy/boy read, but the book felt all over the place. The pacing and writing style didn’t work for me, and even though I usually love over-the-top books, this one was just too much in the wrong ways. I adored this!
It was, fast, sweet, and most importantly for me right now, low angst.
I enjoyed the characters and am looking forward to the next instalment.

⭐️ 2 stars ⭐️

This was just ridiculous. It felt like I read a book backwards. I think the right order should be leave abuser, find good daddy, comfort, have sex, declare love, take revenge on abuser. Not whatever the fuck happened here.

It had the right ingredients for a good daddy romance, but it was really undercooked. Everything, from the abuse to the kink, was just brushed over. I’d get it if this were more of an erotica piece, but the spice was also pretty bad.

I was hoping this would be one of those it’s so bad it’s actually kinda good situations, but no. Just straight up bad.

CW and tropes (spoilers):
- Age gap (5/10 years?)
- Daddy kink (no age play)
- Mentions of domestic abuse and homelessness
- Violence and death
- Frotting
- Strict top/bottom

Obviamente al ser un libro corto la profundidad en la historia deja mucho qué desear pero sinceramente esperaba que fuera un poquito más largo. Me gustó mucho. Harris y Jesse fueron muy lindos.

Me interesa muchísimo la historia de Jason, ya estoy viendo que será un baby.

This took the ‘ touch him and die’ and ‘ who did this to you ‘ tropes to a whole new level. I don’t remember their names but MC1 finds MC2 curled up at a bus stop in freezing whether and stops to check on him, once he sees that he’s barely responsive he picks him up and sets him in his car and offers to take him somewhere and MC2 just says he wants to be taken far away. MC1 sees that MC2 is upset and I’m assuming he sees that he’s beaten up tho it doesn’t mention he sees the bruising and he goes ‘ where is he?’ MC2 thinks he’s being taken back to his abusive ex but tells MC1 where to go anyways.

Now we get to the abusive ex’s trailer home and MC1 walks in with a gun and SHOOTS HIM IN THE HEAD for a complete stranger ??? What if it was the wrong guy???? Anyways, he takes the cash from the wallet and pours some booze on the dead guy and sets the place on fire then proceeds to have a chat with MC2 in front of the crime scene like he didn’t just commit more than one crime. 🤷🏻‍♀️

MC1 killing a stranger for a stranger is a little too crazy even for me so I’m shelving it.

I suspended my disbelief, I swear I did, but I just couldn't get past the fact that one of the MCs kills another person before the 10% mark, and without a real reason! I would have accepted it if the MCs already had a relationship and Harris was acting out of love and concern or any other extenuating circumstance, but just because he was pissed he went and killed the ex just like that and so coldly? No, no, just no! I just couldn't get past it.

Seemed like a good, interesting start and a good premise. But I'm not going to be able to stomach the extreme violence by one of the MCs. It doesn't even make sense to me. There's no justification for it. I am horrified by it. DNF at 23%.

Wait in the Truck is Blue Collar Daddies in the City 1, MM Contemporary Romance with a HEA. Dom/Dadday-Boy. Hurt -Comfort. Second chances. Age-Gap. Angsty at the start.

2POV, 1st person, past tense. This kindle edition 160 pages, 28th January 2023.

This one wasn't for me. Among other things it was just too simplistic, basic and easy. In the near beginning the Daddy character did a very dark thing and you don't see main characters committing such coldblooded crimes in this Romance subgenre. It just doesn't belong at all as this isn't some werewolf alpha fight in a ring in PNR. No, just no. It broke the story at the start. Then the couple went on ignoring blissfully the elephant in the room. Just what on earth?

I should've DNF'd this book early on. I didn't because I kept waiting for something to happen. When it didn't, I knew that finishing it was a mistake.

No matter. I finished it, and I reviewed it.

In a very quick nutshell, I didn't like the two guys together for a variety of reasons, one of which is because of how Harris handles something with Jesse's ex. I couldn't get beyond that.

Hahahaha what?!? Omg when I read the title “Stay In the Truck” I thought many many things… none of them included a “blue collared worker” killing a guy after meeting some guy at a bus stop he didn’t know. Now was the guy he killed an abuser…. Yes… does that mean you should go kill him!? Omfg what if he the guy at the bus stop lied?! This is almost never mentioned again and we are not told, if he an ex trained killer or is there a reason he wouldn’t get caught for this murder? No????

I can’t take this seriously at all. I finished it in the hope of redeeming itself but it didn’t. This was insta love mixed with daddy/boy stuff but he also made it sound like being a lb was really uncommon and weird which was an odd vibe. And then they know each other for all of like 2 seconds to get together but then wait a month to have very normal sex IMO?! What was this!?

2/5 on spice. 1/5 on kink. 1/5 on tears. Murders can be hot in books but this guy just thought he was the shit and wasn’t.

2.5* Okay, I knew what I was getting - insta-love daddy kink but ... it starts out with Jesse escaping his abusive ex and being rescued by Harris as he's nearly frozen to death then ....

I mean it's typical, the kid (never says how old but he'd been with the abusive ex for 2 years, so early 20's I guess) is covered in bruises and cuts and has a hairline fracture on his arm and Harris is watching him sleep like a creeper. I don't know. I mean it was fine and mostly what I'd expected. The dog was cute, but I'm always thinking in the back of my head that the relationship is not healthy given what he went through. LOL I just couldn't suspend my disbelief enough in this one.

This was all I was hoping for and more. Harris is a very nurturing Daddy. This makes him perfect for Jesse. I love how every action on his part shows that he wants Jesse healthy both physically and mentally. And dang I have to say it’s one heck of a way to start a series. I can’t wait to read the next one. Yes it’s Daddy boy but in a mild nurturing way. A very sweet read.

Meh

I mean, this was super sweet. Except for the first couple of chapters, it was fairly fluffy too. But…um, murder happens. Like, cold-blooded murder. And they don’t really talk about it? What?

The books just rolls along, glosses over some details and totally skips repercussions of homicide. Given how soft of a Daddy Harris actually is, the whole murder deal was very out of place. I didn’t even mind the Jesse being a domestic violence survivor. I actually wish he would have gotten some therapy over the course of the book.

I don’t know, I guess I just wish there were more details overall. More sexiness, more talking, more backstory on how Jesse ended up with Bruce….just more. Still, this was mostly sweet and I mostly enjoyed it.

I enjoyed this D/b, age gap, big time hurt comfort story.
The title is cool and eye catching. What it refers to is a brief, but shocking, scene. The meeting between boy Jesse and daddy Harris was intense, too. This will be the second book that I’ve read in a few days with young men fleeing violent abuse and almost losing their lives with no place to go and under dire conditions. Very sad. I wouldn’t have read either book if the blurb didn’t promise there would be someone to help them, to save them and give them shelter and comfort.
The author wrote a good story of the relationship between these men. It was gentle and healing and moved along to a HEA. I enjoyed it and will probably read the next book in this D/b series.

I’ve been a fan of Ms. Grace for years, so I was excited to read this one. It fell a little short of my expectations though.

I have a massive problem with the resolution with Bruce. And yes, I know I must suspend reality when reading but that was a bit much for me.

The story just didn’t seem complete. I’m never a fan of instalove which definitely happens here and with this type of relationship, you definitely need more groundwork.

Everything just falls into place for Jesse which is fine but there was no real substance to the story.

If you’re looking for a quick, sugary sweet story with instalove and a very SMALL brush with daddy/boy kink then you will like this book.

okay, murder aside… it’s sweet

It’s sweet! With a name like “wait in the truck” I was hoping for more cowboy feels or country boy feels - didn’t get that. But I did get a short loving story about a boy and his daddy. Though, the writing could have been tighter some parts thought about more. I enjoyed

Freezing

Harris is coming back from picking up his new dog when he spots what he thinks might be a body at the bus stop. Jesse ran from an abusive relationship and just couldn't go farther. One saves the other but love saves them both.

So… Harris just kills a man without really knowing the whole story, and that’s it? Never talk about it again?
The only reason I didn’t give this 1 star is because I actually finished it.

Definitely don’t recommend 😂

Wait in the Truck is the first book in the Blue Collar Daddies in the City series by Aria Grace. This book was inspired by the song: Wait in the Truck by Michael Hardy. This book is about Harris and Jesse.

I liked their story. It was sweet, sexy and well written. This was the authors first solo Daddy/age gap story and I can't wait to see what the second book brings.

Sweet and satisfying

This was a good first solo Daddy book - it’s certainly Daddy-lite but I think that works because of the characters involved. The relationship between Harris and Jesse is a little insta but it comes across as fairly natural. They don’t declare their love within days but do within a month or so, but that makes sense given the situation they find themselves in. Things happen that will automatically make people closer immediately. They know each other’s darkest secrets and that creates a bond. That it developed quickly from there makes sense. I only had one pet peeve (which is a mild one) and that was Jesse’s injuries are kind of ignored beyond day two. He had what we’re portrayed as extensive injuries (significant blood loss, hair line fracture, bruising, wounds needing suturing, head injury) and which would likely have taken weeks to get to a point where he wasn’t in a fair amount of pain. He also likely would have had that complicated by previous injuries. I would have loved to see Harris looking after Jesse more and I think it would have really added something to their budding relationship (again, that kind of thing grows intimacy). The Daddy relationship is on the lighter side and whilst rules are mentioned that’s dropped pretty quickly (it’s not mentioned explicitly but given Jesse’s past it makes sense that rules wouldn’t be something that was positive for him). Instead the focus is on caring and gentle guidance which really works with Harris’ personality and Jesse’s needs. We got a sneak peek of the MCs in the next book and I’m definitely looking forward to it!

Content Warnings for book: Domestic abuse, arson, gun violence, death, near death experience

Kink: Daddy kink

This was a super cute, fluffy Daddy romance between Harris and Jesse — Harris is a big protector and comes to Jesse’s rescue, and the rest is history.

The romance is instalove and low angst after the beginning of their meeting. I loved the caretaking, the way their relationship developed over time; and how Jesse found his independence. Harris was aware of himself and never tipped into toxic jealousy, but instead reminded himself that it wasn’t appropriate. I loved that.

A lot of people have issue with the beginning event and that no repercussions come from it or no angst is brought up with it. And honestly? I can’t agree. This is clearly an unrealistic wish fulfillment romance. I hope no one thinks you should move in with an out of town stranger and trust him with everything. Like, of course you shouldn’t. This is one of those romances where you can think for a moment everything works out perfectly and shit people get what they deserve.

My only critiques is I wish there was more daddy kink on page and that Grace didn’t use so many ellipses. Otherwise, the story was great!

Bring on the romance between Jason and Tony, please and thank you!

Wait in the Truck by Aria Grace is the first book in her Blue Collar Daddies in the
City series. Jesse has lived in horrible conditions for the past two years and after a really bad night he escapes into the cold with very little on him. After walking for what seems like forever in the snow he finds a bus stop and curls up in the corner thinking he will probably freeze to death. Harris has traveled several states away to get a dog that did not pass service dog training, thinking she would help his loneliness. He is a Daddy but hasn’t been able to find a boy that meets his criteria and has resigned himself to being alone. As he is driving home he passes the bus stop where Jesse is and stops to talk to him. When he realizes the the buses won’t be coming any more that night and if he stays there he could die, he scoops him up and puts him in his car. After he discovers he is badly hurt he goes back to the trailer where Jesse was living and takes care of the problem. Then he drives back to the city, takes Jesses to his friend who is a doctor, and then back to his house. As they stay together they learn about each other. Jesse is so scared that he is getting himself into another bad situation but as he gets to know Harris he realizes what a good person he is. Harris takes his time and always gives Jesse choices, which is something he never had before. He takes such good care of him that Jesse can’t help but be attracted to him. Harris also feel the attraction but takes his time and let’s Jesse make the first moves in everything they do. Eventually he brings up that he is a Daddy and Jesse finds that he can live with that and they fall in love. I really enjoyed this novella. Ms. Grace wrote wonderful characters where you could feel what they were going through in her words. You felt horrible for Jesse at first and then saw him grow into a young man with a good future ahead of him with Harris helping him every step of the way. Harris was kind, understanding, and hopeful that there could be a relationship between them. There was also some darkness at the beginning of the story but it was needed for Jesse to feel safe. Also, Luna, Harris’s dog, added some humor as well as comfort as she was kind of a dorky dog that had some service dog training that she showed throughout the story, sometimes in a funny way. If you are looking for a short hurt/comfort, Daddy/Boy story then this one is for you. I highly recommend it and am looking forward to reading more books from Ms. Grace.

Wait in the Truck is Aria Grace's first solo daddy/age gap romance. While there is a Daddy/boy dynamic, it's fairly tame (think of it as an entry-level Daddy story).

It's winter, and Jesse has just escaped from his abusive boyfriend, who just beat the crap out of him and waved a shotgun in his face. He's huddled up in a bus shelter, not really caring anymore if he freezes to death. Harris has just driven 1000 miles to adopt a dog who flunked out of Service Dog school, when he sees someone curled up in a bus shelter during a winter storm. He bundles Jesse into his truck, sees the bruises and the blood on Jesse, and goes all Righteous Angry Vigilante. (This book was inspired by the Hardy song, "Wait in the Truck", but sans jail time.)

After Jesse is safely ensconced in Harris's house, the inevitable blooming of Jesse occurs, after he no longer has to be afraid, and Harris, who has briefly mentioned his Daddy leanings to friends, begins to grow in his Must Protect feelings for Jesse.

It's somewhat insta-love (not a dis - I love these), with both MC's exchanging declarations of love after only a month together.

I would have liked to see some plot points fleshed out a bit more (Jesse has a hairline fracture of his arm that Harris's doctor friend says needs a follow-up in 4 weeks, but it's never mentioned again; Luna is a Service Training dropout because she seems to pick and choose what services she provides, so the guys are sometimes brought random items. This could have been a lot funnier, without being overdone. Luna seemed like a real character. ), but overall the story and plot flowed well. Nothing really came from left field, and nothing felt too forced. Technically, this was well-produced. I noticed a few minor proofing errors here and there, but nothing that took me out of the story, and nothing that triggered any of my pet peeves.

Toward the end, the main character of the next instalment was introduced, and I'll look for it. This was a very low angst, HEA guaranteed, outing.

I received an ARC of this book and this is my honest opinion.

I'm nearly always here for hurt/comfort and protectiveness and the whole ilk, but what even was this. The pacing was wildly uneven--there's a Massive Event within the first twenty pages that just...sorta...happens without any real context and boy howdy would I not trust this dude for a mile after a thing like that. (The Act is excused by "there would be someone hurt after you" (34) like it's fine and there's, like, two pages of Harris explaining himself and then it's never really mentioned again. Like. This is fine. Except this is not fine.)

And then the rest of the book is flirting and the characters talking with other people about how the relationship is developing without us really ever seeing the relationship develop or the characters become anything other than one-dimensional. I never once believed the main pair because Grace's narration kept telling me they were in love rather than showing me who they were. (There's a quote on 132 of, "He sometimes liked to tease that I was his angel for rescuing him, but I knew the truth. That boy was sent straight to me. To save me from my demons and bring me more joy than I knew possible" and my note is "what demons? We never got to know you for anything other than 'hey I'm a Daddy'.") I'm more interested in the side characters (definitely here for Tony), which isn't great. And as much as I love Luna, I don't quite trust that Grace has ever actually dealt with what guide dogs learn given some of the anecdotes.

This is short--about 150 pages--so it doesn't have a ton of time to really lay foundations. But it wastes even the time it has and I reached the end and was still kind of baffled about any of this being romantic or believable or anything other than worrisome. It's basically Lust Conquers Trauma which, uh, no. No thanks to this mess, which is a shame.

A Boy Worth Saving

OMG!😮 I had this series on my TBR pile for months and on President's Day I was looking for something worthwhile to read. I tried a few different books but just couldn't get into them. Then I pulled up this book. It was an amazing story. The characters were fleshed out. The storyline was satisfying. I love rescue tales. And this one involved two rescues a terrified young man and a big sweet dog that kept trying to steal scenes.
This is a Daddy/Boy story... It doesn't involve Littles. I think Littles can be adorable when diapers, bottles, and pull-ups are NOT involved. This book involves two men. One who'd been badly abused and a lonely silver fox going out in a blizzard to rescue a service dog dropout and coming back home also with a nearly frozen injured young man.

The sweetness, gentleness, and kindness shown to the young man begins to have a positive effect. Along with the live weighted dog blanket. This was such a wonderful story that I highly recommend to others. I have to hurry up and finish this review so I begin reading the second book in the Blue Collar Daddies in the City series.

I also enjoyed that this is about a blue collar guy. Billionaire stories are nice but there's something uplifting about a HEA involving a Blue Collar guy. There are some unexpected surprises in this book but I still wholeheartedly recommend it. I will definitely be reading it again. Thanks Aria Grace for this awesome story!

"We had plenty of time to get to know each other better. It hadn’t even been twenty-four hours yet, and I’d already killed a man for him."

This was short, sweet and simple. A cute hurt/comfort with an adorable HEA.

The plot is about Jesse who's trying to escape his abusive boyfriend. He barely manages to until he's down on the snow while injured, but then a man named Harris finds him and nurses him back to health.

Their dynamic has daddy kink, which is something I'm not that into, but I was surprised at how much I enjoyed this aspect of their relationship.

While the development between felt organic, part of me wishes this had more pages and dealt more with Jesse's abuse. Although I understand that the author just wanted to write something cozy without too much pain, which is valid. There is a line aknowledging this so it was enough for me since I didn't start the book thinking it was a story about the journey of trauma recovery.

This was comforting and peaceful, great for anyone that wants something light with winter vibes.

I can tell you why this man didn’t have a boy yet: he makes dramatic assumptions with 100% confidence very quickly.

Upon meeting a young man beaten up at a bus stop, his first assumption is it’s an abusive man (okay 50/50 odds there), that is regular abuse, and that the guy will hunt the abused guy down. This is all with plundering blood on the guys face, not seeing the extent of his injuries, OR KNOWING HIS NAME! This makes his reaction seem insane rather than heroic or protective.

That was my first sign that I should have quit. Second was Harris (rescuer/daddy) contemplating Jesse (abused/potential boy) and how attracted to him he was. He starts talking about how he knows Jesse has slept with a lot more people than he has but that doesn’t matter. How does he “know” this?? Jesse still hasn’t shared any details about his past and is seemingly much younger than him? Why would he have an extensive sexual past?? I don’t know if this is poor writing because the author meant to show why this could be assumed or because she thought she did. There is one throwaway line (that is an internal monologue so Harris does not know this) about Jesse living on the streets at some point but we don’t know how long that was and it’s crazy to assume what he did during that time especially not knowing his age, where he was, etc.

That and Harris being a little too creepy made me DNF
