Losers Club #4

Sleighed!: A Christmas Mystery – Losers Club

Rate this book
Slàinte! A Christmas Eve party at snow-covered Vik castle, where the Christmas Star diamond is on display. Good food, dancing and a visit from Santa. What could possibly go wrong?

When Santa appears down the chimney, looking far more crispy than expected, it is clear that something has gone very wrong. With the castle cut off from help, a murderer in their midst and the Christmas Star stolen, it’s up to Losers Club to investigate. As they follow the network of secret passages to learn more about their fellow guests, they realise that everyone has a motive. Including one of their own.

As a child, I loved reading. I spent my life with my nose in a book and, when finally forced back into the real world, I wrote poetry and stories. My hero was Pam Ayres and all I wanted to be when I grew up was a librarian, so that I could be around books all the time.

Of course, life takes you on different paths. Somehow, writing poems and stories got lost along the way. I was too busy partying in London through my twenties then being a mum through my thirties and forties. But on an August morning in 2018, at the tender age of forty-eight, I decided to create a blog on Facebook. Ten minutes later, Growing Old Disgracefully was born and the love of writing came flooding back. Encouraged by my lovely readers, I finally got off my lazy behind, put fingers to keyboard and wrote my first book, The Big Blue Jobbie, then another, and another.

Once more, I have a head full of stories and I can’t wait to tell them to you.

snow bound in a castle, with a school party and a priceless diamond - what could go wrong!
Penny, Jim, Eileen, Sandra Next Door and Mrs Hubbard have to deal with Fiona and Gordon's labour, a stolen diamond, Disco Bob dead in the chimney, kidnap and two dead bodies.
i laughed out loud several times, and spat my tea twice!!

Penny and the gang seem to find dead bodies wherever they go. Laird Deer does seem to be a bit out of touch. When all the secrets finally come to light, I think the Laird got the worst of it.
Lots of schoolchildren, snow, secret passages, a priceless diamond, and two Santas all lead the game on a merry chase.
A very fun series to read. I highly recommend it if you like to chuckle your way through a book.

A great escape from adulting

I grew up reading Enid Blyton. It suddenly dawned on me, half way through Sleighed, that Losers Club have become my adult Famous Five. Characters I have come to love, that gel well, unexpected twists and a great chunk of (adult) humour. Sleighed was the perfect escape from pre-Christmas prep.

Cosy read

Not so much swearing in this book. Like the way they make up words to call each other. Will there be a murder. Or something stolen will the losers club solve it. Some funny moments to make this a light hearted read.

This is a mildly entertaining series that I keep reading primarily because the Y author fills a lot of challenge spots. I like the island setting, but most of the characters seem more like caricatures than actual people. (Yes, I know, book characters aren't actual people!) They're supposed to be friends, but the way they constantly quibble and even insult one another is astonishing.

I don't remember much about the murder victim from previous books, but he didn't seem to have many fans among this group, so there were plenty of suspects to think about. The story contained quite a few red herrings, which kept me guessing about who the killer might be. I will admit to being surprised when the culprit was revealed, but the motive made perfect sense.

There are four more books (so far) in this series, and I will probably read them all eventually, if only to take advantage of the Y author for my challenge spots. If I wait long enough between the books, maybe I won't be quite so irritated by their inane antics.

Audio book - a mystery unfolds when things rapidly start to go wrong at a Christmas party for a group of school children held in an isolated castle. Members of the Losers Club spring into action in this humorous and at times bungling tale to solve the crime before the local police arrive. Light-hearted Christmas mystery to distract from the hustle and bustle of the festive season.

A Christmas to remember

Another excellent read. I wasn’t sure a Christmas story would work, but I was completely mistaken! Well rounded characters, a great story both funny and exciting in equal measure. I would definitely recommend it and I look forward to the next one!

Wow! Merry Christmas

Another really great and very complicated story. Loved it all. The characters I have enjoyed reading about are developing into some of my favourite people. Just make me think I should visit a Scottish island. Only I would need to learn the language😂

Very enjoyable, 4th book in the series. The loser's club are helping out at the local castle on Christmas Eve. A party for a bunch of school kids, a priceless diamond, secret passageways and snow coming down heavily. What could go wrong?

Losers Club 4. They get better with every new book. All the characters are so well written and believable. And learning all the new words is a bonus. Don't be a twatbadger, read the Losers Club books.

I imagine writing this as I read

Yvonne and whomever is with her at any given time must be exhausted. Your guts must hurt from laughing. And, turning the story inside out to keep us guessing. Well done.

I am always willing to try an unknown author for a Christmas mystery, but this was just not for me. Even giving some grace for being #4 of an existing series, the humor was very middle school and cringey.
