The tempest of the EMP is here... But another storm is brewing.Frank has been able to guide his neighborhood watch along a narrow path between order and chaos, but most of his problems have been caused by people. Now, as the clouds darken over the Gulf of Mexico, Mother Nature is going to take a crack at him.
The arrival of the storm has only one benefit; Frank can travel the empty roads and get things done.
Using his newest off-road vehicle, a Mercedes Unimog 416, he probes North Pointe to find some missing allies. He also discovers new enemies in a troubled trailer park.
But the biggest enemy of all remains time. There aren't enough hours to organize new people, expand his territory, and set up proper defenses. This gives opportunity to a small group of militia-types, who aren't big on the old laws.
Is a hurricane coming? There are no weather reports, TV coverage, or app notifications, so who can say for sure?
As the clock ticks down, and the massive storm comes in, all Frank's preparations are good for almost zilch against the new threat...
This time, the ocean itself will test his community.
E.E. Isherwood has been a storyteller for over 30 years. Initially the muse took the form of childish comic strips. As a teen it manifested itself under the guise of Dungeons and Dragons adventures. In college it culminated with a Master's thesis on Missouri geography—an extremely boring kind of story. Three decades and several careers later he realized that siren song never stopped, so he began to author books. A life-long enthusiast of apocalyptic fiction, writing about zombies was his passion. Future titles in science fiction and fantasy are in the hopper. He lives in the St. Louis, Missouri area, where his series of zombie books takes place.
Neighborhood Watch #4 - a review by Rosemary Kenny.
Neighborhood Watch #4 - a review by Rosemary Kenny.
On the fifth day after the Apocalyptic EMP, Frank and Carmen must go into full combat mode to rescue a kidnapped teenager from the horrors in a nearby area, where things go from bad to worse before being resolved.
Who's Agnes and what was her previous job?
Zen and his gang in the next block are told by Frank to instruct his neighbourhood to get themselves with their supplies to safety.
Soon a mini-tsunami sweeps inland up the canal, carrying all before it amid torrential rain and thunderstorms, in riveting scenes.
More rescues, horrors and a major battle against rogue soldiers, bring unexpected allies and later a huge, unexpected windfall at the beach in a dramatic conclusion to the novel.
ls this the turning point for Frank et al, in E.E. Isherwood's epic survival-thriller series, Neighborhood Watch #4: After the EMP?
I love that the main character is older than the usual 20 something guy. However the main character is starting this disaster a bit ahead of the curve. The books are also fast only covering a few days at most. On the up side it really covers what needs to occur to keep you and your people alive in a disaster. The element of having to get everyone to work for the common good is much more difficult than people believe. This author does a good job showing how hard that is. Each book is a day, maybe a little more. I would have liked an omnibus better I think. For those who don't know I have to try and get books from my local library.
My first review was lukewarm, but I have seen an improvement in the storytelling over the next three in the series. I’m looking forward to Book 5. Isherwood gets a bit carried away in detail at the expense of moving the action along, sometimes, but it is a good yarn. I wish he had included a map of the area and neighborhoods because it would be more interesting if we could see what he is talking about as he describes his movements. That said, he is not alone in such oversight. I intend to read Book 5, when he publishes it.
So frank was able to rescue Zoe's mom and dad In order to bring them back from the Trailer park They lived in. More adventures along the way including finding a couple of females members of the army were there were being chased down and harassed. Is a travel back home with The parents They came across 2 Members of the army that wanted to be rescued never be in harassed by people in camouflage ponchos. Is the storm intensifies all hell breaks loose.
Book Four continues with the realistic story. Of what could and most likely would happen. In any large emergency situation, weather an EMP, like this series or not. Especially when any level of government fails to help. Everyone always assumes that help will arrive. Therefore they assume no responsibility for there own survival. Book really emphasizes the three main things you need to have ahead of time. Have to read the books to find out what they are.
I have enjoyed the series of books and am waiting on the 5th Installment. I like the heroes, and even the villains are noteworthy. I keep waiting on post-apocalyptic books in which the hero dies to be followed by his inheritor. Some of the events and survivals become too, far-fetched, and hence, unbelievable(overall take on this and other genres of fiction). Still, an entertaining read, and Isherwood gives you a good storyline. Even not knowing how the disaster started is part of it.
Trying to keep his neighborhood safe Frank has to defend it with the ones that live there. He is trying to expand the safety system to include a few beyond theirs but runs in to issues. Supplies are being stolen and gangs are stealing and murdering people for what they have. Then comes hurricane force winds, rain which then flooding occurs. Trouble is brewing everywhere and where will it end?
I have throughly enjoyed this entire series. I definitely suggest reading it in the order written.
This, book 4, reached for amazing heights of tension and successfully achieved its goal. I felt I was back among friends as I read realistic characters going beyond their limits to protect their own.
I am enjoying these books. Each one is action packed, sometimes too packed, but overall good. This one had a lot going on, and left on a cliffhanger. This means I may read book 5 sooner than later. If you like dystopian, end of the world type books, this is a good series to read. I’m planning on reading other series by this author.
Iserwood keeps the action coming thru the whole book. His characters are well fleshed out and quickly become real and important to the reader. This series is one of his best. Buy the series you can't go wrong.
Enjoyed this story of how a neighborhood work together to survive there changed world.will be looking for next book in series.would recommend this to anyone who likes to read how we would survive with no power or the electronics we all depend on
I know I've said this before but these books get better and better. They still don't know what or who caused the EMP but they are trying to hold things together. I can't wait for book 5 and more.
Okay, a super storm...bet this section didn't go over real well in the real Ft. Myers reading arena. Prayers to all that had to go through that real Hurricane. Anxious to see what Chinese goods Frank and his crew find on board their new treasure. On to book 5.
This book had me reading it every chance I had because I wanted to se what happened to my favorite characters! You can’t ask much more in a book or a series! Keep up the good work, EE!
Wow! What a ride! Armed asshats. Action galore! Ships in the street, and even Tanks! ( your welcome ). Couldn't help it. Very good story, lots of action and adventure.
This review is for three and book 4 I already read 1-3 . But didn’t write a review for three so I’m combining three and four.. good story action packed lots of drama and suspense, especially during the hurricane the only piece of clue I will give. I’m on to book 5 now.
That was a roller coaster of a story. I enjoyed it tremendously. I would definitely recommend this series to anyone who is looking for a different take on the apocalypse.
I've never been in a hurricane. It doesn't sound like fun. Between the wind and rain, I'm surprised the houses didn't collapse. Our hero seems to be a super hero.
