Charles L. Chatmon is a Los Angeles author, poet, and journalist whose work blends sharp observation with heartfelt storytelling. His poetry has been praised for its “stark sensitivity and style,” and his writing has appeared in the California Crusader News, L.A. Wave Newspaper, L.A. Watts Times, Consciousness Magazine, and more.
A longtime advocate for Black literature, Charles helped develop major community events including the Los Angeles Black Book Expo, the Leimert Park Book Fair’s Authors Pavilion, and the African Marketplace’s Literary Village. He has taught writing workshops, spoken at festivals and universities, and continues to support emerging writers through his online bookstore, Chatmon’s Books.
A graduate of Cal State L.A. and a stroke survivor, Charles writes with gratitude, purpose, and a deep love for storytelling.
