When Mercury is adopted from Woodhaven Children's Home, her new life seems more incredible than she could ever imagine... until things don't quite add up.

As Asha pursues lead after lead in a quest to find the rich couple's missing daughter, what she discovers shakes her to her core.

With the fate of the realm hanging on her shoulders, and a sinister presence lurking in the background behind it all, Asha and her rag-tag group of friends will travel to places they've never imagined and see things out of their worst nightmares....

Wtf !!?? This series would be perfect if the main character, that is Asha, was not an idiot. She thinks she is strong, a warrior, an assassin, and the savior of the realm, but she is none of those things. She stays a lot in her head, but doesn't solve anything. She ends up in situations where, instead of saving herself, she prays to be saved by someone. I feel like giving up reading, but the content is interesting, even if I would give Asha a few slaps to become braver and stop crying and being afraid of her own shadow.

Okay- so… I am one of those people that will read an entire series even when it isn’t particularly to my taste, so here is a completed biased review:

Asha suuuccckkkkkssss. You’re 32 and you are still so self-involved. You haven’t worked on the missing girls case AT ALL, you still haven’t buckled down and asked Sam if he is married or not (why do I hate Sam? I honestly don’t know, but I just hate him), and you wine all the time.

The only reason you were sad when seeing the young girl’s body is because she had long black hair and she was young- drawing a parallel to your younger self. I miss book one Asha- book four Asha is not for me.

I’m team Mordecai, though I’m suspecting that he may end up being her father. I love so many of the B characters, Dusty, Abby, Chione, Rick, Merlin, Mercury, etc., as Asha declines in my estimation in a way that doesn’t evoke empathy. Maybe she’ll die?

I getting annoyed with this series. I want problems to be wrapped up, but it just seems like they are getting farther away. Also Asha is irritating. I’m waiting for her to be this kick ass witch, bc again that is how her character is portrayed with her saying she’s the “cursebreaker” and a paid assassin. Unfortunately, that’s not the case. She is a basic witch who happens to break curses and only solves crimes with the help of much powerful people.

The other characters are great and the mystery keeps you going, but my curiosity is starting to wane as the main crime she is tasks with always seems to be put on the back burner. It feels like those tv series that has that one major crime that doesn’t get solved until the last episode. So drawn out.

More of the same.
Only comment is this time both threads of the story are still in progress so I assume Mercury will feature again in the next book.
By now you should have realised it's all the books or nothing with this series.

One thing bugging me... The fact that the detective is married and neither party has even mentioned that fact seems super weird. Surely at some point his family situation should've been discussed? At least a little? Especially as he's portrayed as so honourable, reliable and honest so infidelity seems totally out of character?

surprises just keep coming

Asha finally moves finding the daughters up her to do list. She and Sam are finally getting into the slow burn romance. Can she stay alive to keep it all going or will she perish at the hands of the vampire empire?

Book 4 in the series stands fairly well on its own but reading the first for context is recommended. A couple revelations. Can’t wait to see if my thoughts on what’s going on are true or if my theory missed the mark in the next one.

Another great book in this series. You finally get to see where the girls are going, or so I assume, for the first part of their kidnapping. But there’s a new unit of realm police that Asha must deal with to help Dusty as well. Another action packed book in this series and I am already starting the next book!

Book 4

These seriously just get better and better with each book. So many corners to turn that you never know what's going to happen. On the edge of your seat one minute and ready to cry or scream the next.
