A witch, a lich, and a druid walk into a saloon… It’s the start of a bad joke, and Lula sure can’t see anything remotely funny about it. Not when the punch line’s a killer.
Book 3 in the Otherworld Outlaws series, an action-packed romp through the Wild West, loaded with living myths, dark magic, and bloodthirsty monsters aplenty.
Thanks to an unwelcome visit in Deadwood by the savage serpent god Quetzalcoatl, Lula has been talked into—or is it suckered into?—revising their bargain. Certain it’ll cost her dearly, she nevertheless packs up and hightails it to Denver. According to Quetzalcoatl, a man named Brother Havóq has Lugh’s Spear. It’s the key she needs to free her father from the Morrígan, and she’ll face hell or high water to get it.
Wouldn’t you know it though? Turns out, it’s not hell that waits for her in Denver. But the man she’s seeking may as well have come from there.
Caught in a lethal game of poker with an Aztec god, bounty hunters, witches, and an undead creature with an… unexpected… past, Lula has to ante up or die trying. And even though she’s a novice at the game, she knows one thing for sure: In order to beat the devil—someone’s got to cheat.
Don’t miss any of the magic-packed Otherworld Outlaws series GNOME ON THE RANGE • DEADWOOD OR ALIVE

Yeehaw! I rather relished in my exciting and hilarious romp through Tammy Salyer's latest in the Otherworld Outlaws series. Her Weird West Celtic Mythology Adventure stories are by far my favorite reads this year.
After talking to her mother (now mystical dragon), Lula Cullen and her unconventional traveling companions make their way to Denver to find Brother Havóq, who, according to the serpent god Quetzalcoatl, has Lugh's Spear--it's the one thing Lula needs to get her hands on more than anything else to save her dad from the Morrígan. Lula thinks getting the spear from a monk will be a walk in the park and she'll be well on her way to besting the Celtic goddess very soon... little does she know that Brother Havóq is no ordinary monk and what awaits her is a battle like no other. With help from her friends, an old druid acquaintance, and an unusual coven of witches, can Lula survive a hellish magical war against creatures alive and dead?
I just can't get enough of this series! Tammy Salyer yet again had me laughing, grumbling, cheering, and almost crying through this fantastic adventure's ups and downs and unexpected twists and turns. I had been in a serious reading slump before I got word that the third book was ready to read. It was just what I needed to help chase away the winter blues that had set in over the past couple of weeks. I've said it before, and I'll say it again, you better jump on your trusty steed and gallop on over to your nearest bookseller to get your hands on this series! You can find all the details here on the author's website: https://www.tammysalyer.com/
Trust me, you won't regret it!
I received an advance digital copy for free from the author and I am sharing my honest review as a courtesy.
Lula Cullen continues her penchant for irritating Old World Celtic gods as well as a irritating a truly irritating New World Aztec god. After the surprise meet up with her Mom, now a ferocious dragon (in The second book in the series ‘Deadwood or Alive’) - this is a fantasy, right, on the author’s high-octane imagination, Lula continues her Wild West journey to find her father. Uncle Paddy, her very own cat turned dragon guardian, Toxicore Darkheart, her goblin guardian by compulsion and Hattie, her sharpshooting friend, all help Lula to learn more about herself as she weighs through meet-ups with a witches’ coven, zombies, werewolves and an armoured Spanish Inquisition priest. And of course, Quetzalcoatl, who leaves Lula holding the bag - an angry… but I give away too much…
Tammy Salyer writes a fast-paced yarn with rough twists and turns to lose you in the mists her western Celtic fantasy- but leaves you just knowing she will help Lula onward with her journey. Whether in six weeks or six months, Tammy’s continuing saga is eagerly awaited.
I just love these characters and the world Tammy has built. Pegasuses, magic sticks, cheating death, a gnome (but really, what is Tox??), a shilellagh... What's not to love?! This is definitely NOT a standalone. If you don't read the first two books, you won't be able to follow this one. I can't wait for the next!!
No matter the tag, there are no spoilers here! This series just keeps getting better as the adventure continues. The final 24% of Hex 'Em High just ramps up the action. Fascinating; damn good read! Characters are set and the magic unfolds. Loved that last page! And now, the agonizing wait....

Another rollicking entry in the ongoing adventures of Dr. Lula Cullen, a half-blood Fae trying to free her father from enchanted imprisonment. Facing new -- and very cool, by the way -- monsters and the return of an old threat, Lula and her intrepid band travel to Denver in search of a magical artifact.
Working through my To Read stack these recent dark days of winter, I've had my eye on "Hex 'Em High" as it moved to the top. Returning to Lula's Old West was like stepping into a pair of boots at the end of a cattle drive: comfortable and reassuring.
Before starting page 1, i knew there would be great characters, a few chuckles and unexpected plot twists, and few write action scenes with the verve of Ms. Salyer (and the set piece capping "Hex 'Em High" is a doozy!).
