The Tangle of Awful

Rate this book
From USA Today Bestselling Author K Webster comes a new steamy age-gap, enemies-to-lovers “why choose” forbidden romance!

He’s a successful attorney with a secret craving for his too-young stepdaughter.
He wants her badly. But his wicked son wants her too…

Love is an illusion.
In my world, collecting the shiniest trophies is what I do.
Beautiful wife. Swanky home. Expensive cars. Successful firm. Future attorney general.
Add in the Park family name and I’m the envy of every man in town.
True love, however, was never attainable, no matter how much I secretly wanted it.

The desire to be loved isn’t my only secret.
My wife is missing.
With my life under scrutiny as I run for office, I’m finding it difficult to lie away her whereabouts. People are starting to notice. My political opponent. Her best friend. And worst of all, my wife’s daughter, Aubrey.

Aubrey is finally back home after two long years with her dad, but she’s asking questions I don’t have answers to. Yet, that’s not all she’s doing…
She’s invading my thoughts and my heart, driving me insane with her beauty and vulnerability.

I want her.
She’s barely legal and my wife’s daughter.
Forbidden and morally wrong.
I can’t have her. I can’t.

My son, though, doesn’t live by the same code I do.
He wants her too.
But not to love…to destroy.

I’ll risk everything to keep him from her.
Even if this tangle of awful costs me my reputation, my campaign, and my son.

So ummm... Yeah. The Tangle of Awful brings us back to the swanky cul-de-sac where all the Parks reside. Aubrey has arrived in Washington after spending the previous couple of years living with her father in California. After a falling out, with nowhere to go, she reluctantly returns to the mountain town to live with her mom despite their tumultuous relationship.

Her past missteps have seemingly followed her and her stepbrother, Spencer, is none too happy about "the leech" coming back into his and his father's lives with Hugo in the middle of a political campaign.

Tangle provides no shortage of trials, tribulations, or twists. This uber forbidden storyline will not only leave you questioning your morals, but reaching for BOB. The unexpected twists made for an unputdownable book!

So let me get this straight, there’s two heroes. One hero name is spencer, he is the step brother of the heroine. And the second hero is hugo, her step father. Aka the hero’s biological father. And the hero spencer, have a baby with the heroine’s mother. Also aka the hero hugo ex wife.

So hugo the step dad, already have s3x with his ex wife, the mother of the heroine and also have s3x with the heroine.

And spencer, have s3x and made a baby with the heroine’s biological mother.

WOW AUTHOR.

This is not only disgusting but also very a big NO for me. Personally i like a dangerous love story but this one is not only dangerous, but disgusting and inappropriate. Idk why this author’s story lately seems to be so out of line….

Like what the actual fvck?! 🥵🥵🥵🥵🥵🥵🥵🥵🥵

SO THE HEROINE ALREADY FEELS BOTH P3NIZ THAT WENT INSIDE HER OWN MOTHER????? 🥵🥵🥵🥵🥵🥲🥲🥲

I SKIPPED MOST OF THE STORY CAUSE HOW IT MADE ME WANT TO VOMIT 😅😅😅😅🥵🥵🥵🥵🥵 I MADE MY COUSIN TELL ME THE IMPORTANT DETAILS AND IT WAS SO FREAKIN EEWWW 🫣🫣🫣🫢🤮🤮

AND ALSO.
The hero HUGO, his own father aka also spencer grandfather, is married with the ex girlfriend of one of his own son’s former fiancée. So both of them already have their p3nis in the same woman, the difference is the time being😂 One is the current time and one is in the past 😂 SEE. FVCKING DISGUSTING AWKWARD EEWWWWWW😫😫😤😤😤 AND THE HEROINE’S MOTHER HAD ONE NIGHT STAND WITH HUGO OWN BROTHER. Like even the kardashian can’t compare with this family history fvcking 😰😓😓😓😓

I HOPE JUDE STORY WON’T BE THIS FVCKED UP. LIKE FVCKING PLEASE AUTHOR 🥺🥺🥺🥺😤😤😤😤😤😤

AUTHOR WHAT IS GOING ON????!
DON’T MAKE STORY THAT SO FVCKED UP LIKE THIS!!!!!!
MAYBE IN THE REAL WORLD THERE ARE STORY LIKE THIS BOOK BUT YOUR NOVELS SUPPOSED TO BE DIFFERENT THAN THE REAL WORLD!!!! 🥵🥵🥵🥵🥵

I know many people would probably love this type of book. But everybody is different. So does my opinion on this book. It just not right for me tbh🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄

👉🏽👉🏽Thank you so much for reading my review❤️❤️ For you who loves my review and follow it, THANK YOU SO MUCH. I did not get paid or be told to do a review on a book. I’m here just to write review about a book so i can remember it. Its my honest opinion😚 I didn’t know at first people will find me and follow me and trust me to be honest, I was surprised myself to look at the notifications from people who reach out to me😆 So everything i write down here on a review is based on my personal opinion and based on my true writing. I DID NOT COPY SOMEONE’S REVIEW OR WRITING SKILL because at first when i was using this app for one year i didn’t know how to scroll down on a book and see the reviews from others😂😅🤣 I know, silly me but hey I finally learned my lesson 😛😛😛 Thats why when people assume i copy someone’s review i was like what? Because at first i didn’t know how to use this app properly and i didn’t know how to open someone’s review because for a year i never follow someone or add friends or someone😂😂😂🤣 (I’m laughing so hard) 🤪 AND I NEVER COPY SOMEONE’S REVIEW EVER. IF I WRITE SOMETHING WRONG OR DOESN’T MAKE SENSE PLEASE LET ME KNOW AND BE NICE OKAY. 👈🏽👈🏽👈🏽✋🏽✋🏽 IF YOU'RE BEING MEAN AND NEGATIVE ALREADY WITH A WARNING AND NOT BEING WISE TO ME, I WILL NOT ENTIRELY READ YOUR COMMENT AND REMOVE YOU EASILY AND FAST. I DO NOT TOLERATE NEGATIVE COMMENT SO KNOW YOUR PLACE, THANK YOU SO MUCH.

I’m writing my disclaimer again here cause many negative people still don't get it or still be stupid enough not to understand my POV when I already write it so many times before. So here I am writing it again to you beautifuls human being😁😁 WHEN YOU READ MY LONG OR SHORT REVIEW, YOU WOULD KNOW THAT WHAT I LIKE ABOUT A STORY AND CHARACTERS RIGHT... IF YOU DON'T KNOW THEN HERE IT IS: I LIKE A BOOK WITH VERY POSSESSIVE PROTECTIVE ALPHA MALE, NO CHEATING, AND PLEASE NO MANWHOR3, NO MANY PUSHING AWAY, NO DOORMAT HEROINES, NO MANY OW DRAMA, NO S3X SCENE WITH SOMEONE ELSE. AND SAFE ALL THE WAY AND A HAPPY ENDING. Something that I don't like it very much if the hero or heroine have a crazy fvcked up personality and likes. Example: killing someone and let the heroine watch it all and push the heroine to lick all the blood of his victim and made her have to eat the meat of humans. and fvcks many woman in front of the heroine while telling her he loves her. I DON'T LIKE THAT TYPE OF SH*T AT ALL. That's just who I am, that's what I like and I don't like on a book. Maybe you love that, but I don't. We humans are different, we think very differently from one another. You have your likes and I have mine, you have your opinions and I have mine of my own. You think it's stupid of me to love such a book or to not love a book or to hate it whatever lol, I think it's bad you think that way cause I respect people's opinions cause I know for a fact we have our differences. YOU AND ME ARE DIFFERENT FOR PETE'S SAKE. I even have my own friends or people I follow here that shows how much they don't like the book I like, I never even give them a long comment or short Comment. Cause I respect their opinions. I don't like to give people I hard time here cause life itself is already hard enough. I do respect your opinion if you say my review is bad or whatever negative things about it, but in the end of the day I will not changed my mind about what book I dislike and how my thoughts about it. You can't tell me what to do. You can give me advice but it's me who decided to know what's right for me, this is my life and not yours. Read that again. Don’t assume things about me that is not even real, just don’t. cause when you do you’re more small minded for sure. You're thinking why I'm telling you all of this when you already know? Is because you still hating on my opinions and don't understand my POV and don't respect my POV. You think i like writing this disclaimer when obviously you're an adult already? no i personally think this is unnecessary... but because there are people out there who still don't get it *rolling my eyes*. Hopefully they or the people who read this disclaimer can use a beautiful thing called a brain:) AND WHEN YOU READ MY REVIEW, READ IT VERY CLEARLY TO SEE IF I FINISHED THE BOOK OR NOT. KNOW THE DIFFERENCE. AND YES ENGLISH IS NOT MY FIRST LANGUAGE. BUT IF YOU UNDERSTAND WHAT I'M WRITING, THEN IT MEANS YOU UNDERSTAND IT ENOUGH. I DO NOT TOLERATE BULLYING, NEGATIVE COMMENTS AND MEAN WORDS. PLEASE USE A WISE WORDS SO WE DON'T ATTACK EACH OTHER. SIMPLY, I DON’T LIKE TO HAVE AN ARGUMENT WITH STRANGERS LIKE YOU CAUSE I HAVE BETTER THINGS TO DO😚 BUT IF YOU STILL WANT TO BE AMBER HEARD KARENS THAT DON'T UNDERSTAND MY DISCLAIMER AFTER I JUST WRITE IT DOWN, THEN GO ENJOY YOUR DAY AND GO AWAY. IT'S VERY EASY FOR A HUMAN COULD DO YA KNOW. IF YOU STILL HERE HATING ME OR ANNOYED WITH ME, THAT'S YOUR PROBLEM. NOT ME PROBLEM. HASHTAGS BURN😂😂 DON'T TAKE THINGS TOO PERSONALLY ON ONLINE CAUSE WE ALL A STRANGERS, WE NEVER EVER MEET. WE'RE ADULTS HERE SO LETS BE WISER. LAST, I BLOCK NEGATIVE PEOPLE! SO GET WELL SOON TO THE HATERS. HOPEFULLY YOUR HEART AND MIND WILL BE MORE POSITIVE 🙏🙏🙏 AND THIS DISCLAIMER MAY SEEMS LIKE TOO HARSH ON YOU BUT HEY I DON'T LIKE TO SUGAR COATED THINGS. I LIKE TO SAY TO THE POINT WITH MY UNDERSTANDING AND MY OWN THOUGHTS, CAUSE THAT'S HOW HUMANS ARE. WE ARE DIFFERENT REMEMBER👍 HAVE A GREAT DAY EVERYONE!!

Well this has just been a fun little merry go round … one that goes 90 MPH!

Ugh, I’m irritated with all these grown men holding a teenager responsible for their own actions. Especially her father. I mean don’t get me wrong, Aubrey is far from innocent but she’s young and ruled by hormones. What are the men’s excuse?

I don’t know what’s worse, Spencer hating her and treating her like crap for no apparent reason, at least one that has little merit. Or Hugo stringing her along and mindfucking her like a goddam yo-yo.

I don’t take back what I’ve said but a lot can be forgiven after Spencer beat her ass with a belt because she asked him to. Meanwhile Hugo is over there offering praise kink. Sign me up for the best of both worlds!

The OTT pranks and the ensuing suspense was nuts, I thought I knew but there was no way to guess who the real culprit was. The same can be said with what happened to Aubrey’s mother.

Lol the last quarter was a total clusterfuck, very reminiscent of an episode of Jerry Springer. So it was a lot of chaos before we came to that epilogue that only promised more crazy. But I’m here for it!

And now I’m just crazy excited for the next one. I’ve been looking forward to Jude’s book since The Teacher of Nothing. Even better it’s gonna be MM!! 🔥🙌

*** I reviewed a complimentary copy of this book***

The Tangle of Awful follows a why-choose relationship between Aubrey and her stepbrother, Spencer, and stepfather, Hugo. Together they have a mess of a relationship. Aubrey is struggling with her self-destructive tendencies. She sabotages just about every relationship, so returning home is not easy when things are more complicated than ever. She has a love/hate rivalry with her stepbrother and weird tension with her stepfather. Together they are one complicated situation that only gets crazier.

Overall I did not enjoy this story as much as the first one. I found the characters too over the top, but I did enjoy the insanity of this story. You get to see more from this family and an insight into the previous couple, which was fun to see. I am very excited about the next entry and finding out more about a certain mysterious family member.

This was my first K. Webster book and I will definitely be coming back for more. The writing kept me engaged and focused on the mystery and Park family dynamics while also giving me numerous spicy scenes with Aubrey, her stepdad, and stepbrother. I loved how both men were opposites but always came together when it came to Aubrey and her well-being.

What a chaotic mess. Biological son and father tag teaming stepsister/daughter, son sleeping with and having a baby with stepmom(the father was sleeping with her too), son and father impregnating stepsister/daughter. Yeah a giant clusterf@$k! 🤦🏾‍♀️

After making some poor choices, Aubrey Cox had no other choice but to return to the one place where she once felt at home. But Spencer Park is determined to make Aubrey pay for what she did. The only buffer Aubrey has to rely on is her stepfather, Hugo Park.

“She’s younger than my son, for fuck’s sake. Worst yet, she’s my wife’s daughter.”

Narrated in multiple POV, the sexual tension builds within Aubrey, Hugo and Spencer. For me, the connection between Spencer and Aubrey felt stronger, but Hugo rounds it all out. I actually ending up feeling more for Spencer than originally anticipated. Though I enjoyed the taboo nature of this story, the ending seemed a little over the top.

The Tangle of Awful is a story about challenging norms. This book would appeal to those seeking a juicy taboo romance with a twist.

When I saw this, I let my hopes get high but not too much.
After all it sounds taboo u know, but the reason of my disliking is nothing to do with taboos...

Well this did not feel like a romance, nor a smut reading. Ok call it erotica but romance... Nah... More like a mystery with disturbing sex.

And the problem is the style, not their relationship. Webster's pen can be good but IDK why she choose to write like this, or create her characters like waste of ppl than ppl with flaws.

The problem is much more and it's not that she is a home wrecker or attention seeker. Even it's not her step-brother who is complete jerk and thinks he is the king of jungle which is belong to his grandfather (oh my fucking god this is so lame lol).

I can guarantee that if you love "tangled" relationships this book is for you. But for me her mother's deal is so fucked up, so unnecessary, so cheesy...
Even I would swallow this disgusting situation but the book is not romantic, u got me right? And WORST, not fucking hot or steamy or spicy,,, at all.

AAANNNDDD I cant fucking believe the language male characters use, like "she became fuckable" or "are you going to fuck her" or... it's so so so terrible and I swear I'm not being a feminist...

I can't even...

*gag*

Genre: Contemporary Romance
Type: Standalone book 2 of the series
POV: First Person - Dual
Rating:

After two years of absence, Aubrey came back to Park Mountain for her mother, only to find out she was missing. And her nightmares only just began when her nemesis wanted her blood while his dad wanted something else completely.

Before starting this one, I wasn’t aware of the relationship dynamics - that’s what made this one feel extra naughty. The tension in the beginning helped intensify the sexy scenes later in the book.

This thing between us is a war I plan on winning.

I loved the Parks since book 1, no matter how messed up they were, and Aubrey up the ante with her own mess. Though I felt the ending was a bit too much, I enjoyed all the drama throughout the story.

The Tangle of Awful is a story of revenge and acceptance. It would appeal to readers who enjoy forbidden romance.

That was toxic and I was having a good time UNTIL the end… no spoilers but if you’re not a fan of wild drama, this is not the book for you.

Aubrey just can’t help herself and wants both step daddy and step brother. 🫦

I loved Hugo, the step dad. He was hot and protective and jealous. So jealous.

Spencer (step brother) was a bully which isn’t my cup of tea but he ends up being very adoring to Aubrey so I ended up liking him.

Group scenes ✅ — taboo AF yes but 🤫😏

But then the ending… 😵‍💫😵‍💫😵‍💫😵‍💫
Hella drama that I questioned how you could come back from that???

I did NOT see any of that coming so it is certainly a suspenseful book with lots of twists and turns.

But I hated the ending. It was too ridiculous for me.
Different ending and it would’ve gotten a high rating from me.

This was my first book by K Webster so I’m not sure if she’s just known for drama/wild plot lines.

I am interested in reading more stories about the Park Family
- Callum x Willa have a story already
- Jude x Tate is coming soon
- hopefully Dempsey x Sloan will get one
- Gemma x ??

I love these Park Mountain stories and The Tangle of Awful was fantastic! Poor Aubrey has been through so much in her young life and she has feelings of hopelessness and unworthiness but has returned home to find her mom is missing and her stepbrother Spencer is still tormenting her and resents her. But Hugo, her stepfather, is welcoming. This trio goes through so much, the back and forth between them is frustrating at times but oh so luscious at other times. There is chaos and anarchy in this book. But the Park family rallies together to stand together and fight any threats. ❤️ Loved this story! ❤️

HOLY DUMPSTER FIRE!! This family is INSANE and I'm 10000% addicted.
This life I have now is messy as fuck. A tangle of awful. Forbidden and wrong. But it’s also perfect.

Hugo Park (40-ish, hot as sin) has a lot of sh!t going on in his life. He's running for AG and his cheating wife, Neena, is missing, oh.... and he's part of the Park family, who is cursed with having scandalous relationships. Hugo isn't expecting for his stepdaughter, Aubrey, to show back up on his doorstep and he certainly isn't expecting to lust after her!!!

Aubrey (18) has always had a volatile relationship with her mom, but when her bio-dad kicks her out, she has no choice but to return to the Park family home under the pretense that she's looking for her mom, who has gone radio silent. She's also not the same heartbroken girl who left two years ago after falling in love with her stepbrother, Spencer. She's ready to stand up for herself this time. But when she shows up, she also brings a lot of baggage with her.
I’m not a whore. I’m just a broken girl looking for love in all the wrong places.

Spencer (18) loved Aubrey, but that ended when her mom, Neena, caught them making out. Then he found out Aubrey had deceit on her mind and his feelings went from love to hate. He ended up being the catalyst that caused Aubrey to run away in the first place and it's something he's very proud of. When she shows back up, he's totally ready to pick up that battle again.

The entire Park family has to get involved with the craziness Aubrey brings to their lives. Thankfully the Park family owns that town and always have each other's backs. This book is EPIC.

SEX: Holy hell! More please!!! So, this book doesn't have nearly as much sex as I thought it would; however, it's super hot. For those who are concerned about this love triangle:

The drama and mystery are so good in this. I couldn't skim a single word because I was GLUED to the pages! The ending had me GASPING! Like what the actual fuck did I just read!!!

Yes, I guess it's taboo - but it didn't really feel like that. Hands down going on my favorites list.

I can't say enough how fun, naughty, and exciting this book was. So much drama!! I can't wait for the next one!

***4,5 "Ours!!!" stars***

"This twisted entanglement of ours is awful.
So fucking awful."

I am in love with the Parks and their sinister and forbidden world!!!
This family is drown toward drama and they are making questionable choices in partners, but oh my, these wrong choices are so delicious to read about!!!
After "teacher" Callum Park and his obsession with his student, K. had striken again with an even more morally questionable couple or triangle in our case!!!
This story here had checked so many favorite tropes of mine... bully, enemies to lovers, stepbrother, stepfather, age gap, love triangle... so much hotness in just one book!!!
I won't lie to you that I wasn't afraid to enter this story, but I'm glad that I left my hesistations out of the door and K. Webster rewarded me for my boldness with her unique way to embrace forbidden stories!!! And now, I am even more obsessed with this clan than before!!!

"You wouldn't be a Park if you didn't have a complicated love life."

Hugo is the older child of the Parks... and he is the responsible one who is always making the right decisions and now, he is preparing to run office...
Now, he needs more than ever to have the perfect image... But things are not going very well lately, since his wife went missing...
And now, after two whole years, his stepdaughter is coming back home and she needs his protection... But his carnal insticts are starting to get out of control everytime he is near her!!!
And it doesn't help that his own son is out for blood for the poor girl!!!

"She thinks I'm the best man she knows...
Turns out, I'm actually the worst."

Aubrey is not the same girl that she used to be before... Now, she is wild and unapologetical, and it is time for her to pay for the mistakes of her past... Her last chance is to return back to the place that had hurt her in the past and to seek help from her estranged mother....
But her mom is missing and she has to deal with her stepbrother, Spencer who lives for making her life a living hell...
Plus, she is starting to feel forbidden feelings everytime Hugo, her stepfather, is close and she just want to hide in the safety of his arms and never let go...

"I'm just a broken girl looking for love in all the wrong places."

Spencer Park is still very angry with his stepsister... She dares to come back to haunt him for once again, but now, he knows better and he will never allow her to have power over him, as she used to have, once upon a time...
These two are having history... A destroyed one... Full of hatred and misunderstanding...
This time, he is determined to make her pay for her sins, but what will happen when he is starting to learn her secrets and see her getting closer to his own father???

"We're enemies. She made sure of that a long fucking time ago. This thing between us is a war I plan on winning."

Well... this was a very unorthodox love triangle, who many will characterize as wrong and disgusting, but honestly, even though i had my reservations about this type of entanglement, I freakin' fell for this trio...
And when things started to becoming more and more complicated and the secrets of the past started to reveal, I was in awe with this story...
I loved Hugo, even though I am not very fond of older men/stepfathers!!!
Spencer is exactly my type of a book boyfriend and he surprised me very much in here!!
And Aubrey was lovely, even though her past made me feel kind of uneasy!!!
These three were a very explosive combination that I enjoyed very much!!!

"Just a taste of the forbidden. A tease to get me by.
Forbidden fruit is poisonous, though.
Infects your every cell and decomposes your soul."

I really loved this story!!!
It was sinister, it was forbidden, it was kind of wrong, but it felt so right at the end, even though it was super complicated!!!
I adore the way K. Webster's mind is working and she is giving us so many shockingly beautiful stories!!!
And of course, I am dying for the rest of the Parks' stories, especially Jude's and I am so happy that he coming next!!! I really can not wait!!!

"Jude's in love with his demons. There's no room for anyone else."

Aubrey Love is coming home after creating a scandal with her dad and his boss….
She’s trying to reconnect with her mom but she’s missing which leaves step father and step brother…

“She’s not the girl I remember. It’s like the innocence is gone, replaced by something fiery and passionate. I crave to pluck away at the feathers of her past, learning new things about her.”

Aubrey grew up while in college. This mind works in funny ways. She’s no longer a kid but a tattooed, pierced, curvy woman now and Huge and Spencer Park? They’re looking at her like a hot meal needing to be served.

This book is filthy and delicious. With the enemies to lovers relationship between Spencer (the step brother) and Aubrey and the loving relationship switching gears between her and Hugo (the step dad) - we also get some suspense because someone is threatening Aubrey’s life and it’s mystery to unravel who’s out for her.

“My son. That’s better than the alternative. If I had to share her with anyone, it’d be him. This twisted entanglement of ours is awful. So fucking awful. I don’t know what to do about it either. I’m sure as hell not about to stop anytime soon.”

No virgins. No sword crossing. No MM.
this is MFM. No incest. No underage characters. Yes to an HEA. No cheating although the stepfather is married but the marriage is done and he hasn’t seen his wife in a year.

I leave you with this:

“Taking two big dicks at once. Fucking amazing.” “Our sexy little slut,” Spencer rumbles. “Not satisfied unless her cunt is stuffed by her daddy and brother.”
🔥🔥🔥💦💦💦💦🍆🍆
(Not her actual dad, folks)

O, my this is one deliciously crazy family! I am wondering if this too will end up in "Webster's banned from Amazon" category!

After her cold hearted mother sends her away to live with her father, Hugo Park's stepdaughter Aubrey is back, looking for her mother. She has been kicked out for being out of control “Trying and failing to stay out of trouble according to Dad.” she is a beacon for trouble, has slept with more men than I can count, been tattooing my body long before I was legal, and have dabbled in every drug there is. Since she is back in Park Mountain she has
Antagonize stepbrother. Check.
Vandalize a luxury vehicle. Check.
Flirt with stepfather. Check.

The hot scenes and the unexpected twists will keep you turning the pages and engaged into hurling towards the finish.

This is an utterly Webster-style, taboo romance, that I'm sure is not for everyone. The love triangle between Hugo, Aubrey & Spencer was wickedly raunchy, but so delectable.
I've thoroughly enjoyed reading another twisted romance that sprung from this amazing author's mind and am wondering what she has in mind for Jude!

I’m so disappointed in this one because I typically love her writing and I thoroughly enjoyed the first book in this series. I read the first in one sitting but this one took me about 2 weeks to get through because I kept not wanting to pick it back up. I did finish it though and I don’t really think it was worth it tbh. The tangle of AWFUL is right, this book was very aptly named. I liked Spencer in the first book but kinda hated him in this one, plus I felt horrible for her but Aubrey was so annoying. I’ll definitely read the rest of the series since it had such a strong start, but I’d skip this one tbh if you make it past the first.
Also sorry I know they wanted to keep it out of the press for Hugo’s campaign, but how was Neena not arrested for statutory r*pe?? Spencer was a MINOR when she manipulated him into bed and into thinking he loved her. He was 16 but the age of consent only applies to if both consenting parties are 16/17, not his grown adult stepmom grooming him…

If you read the first but wanna skip this one, all you need to know that relates to the best couple in the series so far is that Willa & Callum get engaged and Willa announces she is pregnant with a baby girl at the end of this book.

One question for anyone.

Would it count as incestual relationship if a dad and a son are having sexual relationship with the same woman, at the same time but no 'swords' fighting with each other?

Just curious.

p.s. where can I get an arc tho?

I got this book because I was in the mood for a good taboo story. K Webster has written a few other taboo books that I’ve enjoyed. Unfortunately, I was disappointed with this one. There was too much “tangle” to the plot and family. I would have liked it better if the whole Neena (Hugo’s missing wife/Aubrey’s mother) part had been left out.

I’m interested in reading Jude’s story. At the end of the book it said his story, entitled The Heart of Smoke, is coming.

I'm so conflicted. I loved the first 70%, but the last 30% was a dumpster fire 🙃. So far-fetched and ridiculous. None of that was necessary. I just wanted a taboo treat; not kidnappings, attempted rape, TWO pregnancies, and a murder. Wtf😐

The Tangle of Awful is the second book in the series of interconnected standalones that feature the Park family. It has been some time since I read book one but I could recall the basics of most of the people mentioned as I read, barring a couple names, but it didn't really matter in the grand scheme, detailed further below.

This one features an MFM relationship dynamic, with stepbrother and stepfather as the MMCs. I loved all of the forbidden, soap-opera style relationships and secrets and the pseudo-taboo nature of everything including some of the steamy scenes. I loved all of the relationships and plot ideas, in fact.

However, execution leaves something to be desired. Everything is very shallowly written, the connections between the FMC and both MMCs is instant and relies on an off-page past for emotional connection, something that almost never translates to the reader and didn't for me yet again. The many family relationships and stalker/missing mother/mystery plots are only mentioned as asides or when absolutely necessary for the exact plot happening or as hints to future books, just little one or two sentence things here and there.

This works to make a fast read, but doesn't to make me care about anyone or feel the emotions the characters are reportedly feeling, or to feel the world of Park Mountain. There is enough to know what the author is going for, but not enough for it to succeed, resulting in another book that is disappointing specifically because of the lost potential. Additionally, there are some errors, and beyond that a decent amount of sentences that have poor structure or that have an incorrect word usage, and that was a little distracting for me.

There are enough positives combined with my reading OCD to make me want to continue on with the series, but I need to adjust my expectations and prepare for that wistful lost potential feeling.

Lol @ the convoluted ridiculous fucked-up-ness of this book. I like K. Webster’s stuff. I think her MMCs are sexy af. I read all her super taboo stuff and it doesn’t bother me. But I gotta say, the confusing relationships at the end of this book had me laughing.

Aubrey (who I didn’t like really at all) comes back to Park-land, Bumblefuck (or whatever it’s called) bc she got kicked out of her dad’s house in LA after sleeping with her teacher, her dad’s best friend & her dad’s boss (among others I guess). She is also ready to go all Sherlock Holmes on the mystery of why her mom (Neena) is ignoring her (which is actually not out of character for her mom bc she sucks). She has a hot stepbro (Spencer)(my guy) & a hot stepdad (Hugo)(honestly pretty lame). No one knows where Neena has run off to! She keeps using her debit cards at all her usual spots! They all just sleep together instead of worrying about that. But wait! Someone is stalking Aubrey! Also someone else is stalking Aubrey! Where is Neena anyway?

Blah blah etc etc. Okay so the end.

Get ready for a twisted taboo tale. Aubrey wants to know where her mom disappeared too? Back home after staying with her father she goes to get answers from her stepdad, Hugo Park. His son, Spencer, might be the thorn in her side but Hugo has his reasons. They both want her for different reasons but are they really that different under the surface. This little vixen is going to shake up their world. This is a sultry double taboo romance with a bully stepbrother and an older stepfather vying for Aubrey’s attention. Could this ever really work? If you’ve read the teacher of nothing then you have met the Park men before but each book can be read as a stand-alone. This is a unique spin on the MFM scenario of why choose. Told in multiple POV

Okay this was a wild ride for sure. I love forbidden romance and this was definitely forbidden. Stepdad and Stepbrother obsessed with Stepdaughter/stepsister 😏 Parts of this I didn’t know how to feel about it. Some of it was kinda cringy but I couldn’t stop reading it 😅 the storyline was chaotic. There was so much going on. A lot of nonstop action in the later half of the book. The Parks family life is crazy. I might still continue the series. I’m anxious to read more about the other characters.

Love Webster's book but

This one around 100+ pages to long to be honest. It just felt like a little repetitive. Spencer being mean, Aubrey shaming herself, and Hugo fighting back and forth with his feelings. I don't mind s€x in books but goodness that's all this book felt like.

So I skimmed and skimmed some more until it actually picked up to something interesting around 75%. It became a little confusing about who wss the daddy. It's crazy being a brother to Aubrey and now she'll have a baby by either her brothers dad or grandpa.

pros:

🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️

Hugo and Spencer are hot hot hot. the spice was divine and their dirty talk was sooo good. i love the dynamic of the Park family. they're all kinda fucked up but willing to rally behind each other no matter the cost. Dempsey was absolutely adorable and Nathan just gave off massive BDE running that powerhouse with a very cool and no-nonsense vibe. we love to see that many Alpha males in one place.

Aubrey was subpar. not as much fight as she could have had and frankly should have had. she most definitely deserved to drag both of those men through the coals and had plenty of ammo to do it, considering how obsessed with her they were. and don't even get me started on how she handled the Drew situation. that was so cringe and humiliating to read. even if the worst parts of that were kept, did they really need to be commented on in the dialogue... i mean just wtf was the point of that wild ass convo after they found her. it made me ill and destroyed any sexiness left in the book afterwards which is TRAGIC because the following scene would have been so good otherwise. i'm still shuddering.

K Webster continues to be one of the most salacious authors ever and i love her for it. but that brings me to...

cons:

i am actually wildly disappointed with the Spencer/Neena relationship. it's hypocritical because i was all on board for Spencer/Aubrey/Hugo but just... what the fuck was that 💀 it cheapened the relationship between the three knowing they'd both fucked Aubrey's mom, making it even WORSE when she turned out to be pregnant with Spencer's baby. i don't really care how it was spun to make Spencer out to be a victim, it's gross. Aubrey was mistreated by both parents and her stepbrother, it's understandable that she's reeling and so willing to find a modicum of comfort and affection from anyone who would give it to her. but Spencer tormented the girl he claimed to love over a lie? like did he ever even love her if he was so quick to buy into that bs from someone who was QUITE OBVIOUSLY evil? no red flag flew up when she had a problem with her daughter hooking up with him, just to turn around and do the same? it immediately removed any feeling of affection i had towards Spencer and flat out disgusted me. seeing Aubrey accept him without so much as a heated argument feat. Spencer's grovel put a bad taste in my mouth. even when she was getting panicky and thought Spencer was responsible for what happened to her mom (he WAS) and her aunt, she was able to talk herself down from that ledge by reminding herself Spencer loved her. insane to me that she didn't get the same credit until after all the damage had been done and Spencer realized he was a goddamn moron.

seriously, Hugo and Spencer both pursued tf out of Aubrey and wouldn't have left her alone even if she'd wanted them to. that is wildly different than having an affair with your stepmother while your dad is clueless. all the following indignation of sharing Aubrey with his dad really lost its heat when Spencer turned out to be the most twisted of them all. Aubrey sitting there crucifying herself while he spent two years being a dog, even going so far as to admit he still tried to be intimate with her mom even after Aubrey came back.

i wanted to love this because, duh, but ultimately i wish i never read it. completely shattered the entire thing for me in the last 20% of the book. fuck Neena and fuck Spencer too tbh. i am extremely dissatisfied.
