Late Check-Out: Cozy ghost stories
The Paradise Road Motor Court is haunted.
Dozens of ghosts wander among the cottages and cobblestone paths of the motel. They're souls who got lost on the way to the afterlife, tethered to this world by something they couldn't let go of -- a childhood memory, a lost watch, a work shift that never ends.
To Cynthia Gregory, lost souls are just a part of life. She's been guiding them home since she was a teenager. As the proprietor of the restored 1930s-era motel, she's as much concerned about guests as she is ghosts. Along with her husband Barry, her hyper-competent manager Jen, the new hire Dale, and the eccentric handyman Mike, Cynthia spends her days and nights juggling the demands of both the living and the dead...
... and maybe even something beyond.

I really enjoyed this set of ghost stories set near where I live. I'm one of those people who always reads the welcoming binder in hotel rooms, so I liked the way this collection started - with a letter from the owners of the hotel. Several of the stories were more enjoyable than others - I especially liked the ones "Just Friends Forever" and "The Constant Mother," while I found "The Party Spirit" a little too sharp.
All in all, it's a fun selection of stories set about 20-25 years ago. Good reading for a lazy Saturday afternoon.

Charming
These are bite size, interconnected stories that explore the mundane, the supernatural, the rapid change of culture and technology, legalism, faith, race, gender roles, and food...and does it all with kindness and humor.
A quick, easy read that is perfect for stolen moments.
