A Court of Thieves and Traitors #2

The Heir The Fae Forgot

Rate this book
A stolen crown awaits…if she can live long enough to claim it.

The Lord of the Wildness has finally gotten what he wants. He has Aurra in his grasp, and he’s going to do everything he can to keep her there.

She was warned not to trust Icarus—to fear him, even—but he’s the only fae willing to give her answers. She’s not afraid of him, but his powers are another thing entirely.

Shiel was right about that, at least.

The dark court is a place of mystery as much as it is danger, but at least it doesn’t try to hide what it is. The same can’t be said of the fae who rescued her.

Shiel lied to her. He spoke of a duty to the kingdom, but the only master he serves is himself. He’s one of the fae lords out to use her for his own gain, a ruthless warrior willing to do anything to secure the safety of his own court. She might be able to forgive him if he was willing to admit it. Maybe.

She made the mistake of trusting him once. She won’t make that mistake again.

Not with him. Not with anyone.

She’s survived worse than what this new world and its glamour can throw at her. These are courts of traitors, and if she’s going to survive amidst them, she’s going to have to be a traitor, too.

Even if that starts with betraying her own heart, the part of her these fae seem most determined to break first.

The Heir The Fae Forgot is the second book in A Court of Thieves and Traitors, a slow burn (but extra spicy) dark enemies-to-lovers fantasy romance series with multiple love interests, hidden powers, handsome dark-haired villains … and most importantly, a FMC determined not to let anything stand in the way of destiny.

This series will be rapid releasing monthly between November 2022-March 2023.

I wanted to like this book, I was interested in where the story was going. However, at about 145 pages in I stopped reading. The pacing is slow, and it felt like the plot was going around in circles of the MC being upset at someone and not wanting to talk to them then was rinse and repeat with another character two chapters later. On top of it the Kindle version of this E-Book had so many spelling error and issues with the EBook formatting that it was distracting. Overall, the problems did not outweigh the premise and I had to put it down.

Honestly, this book just fell flat.

The plot and the characters just left me feeling frustrated.

I think the idea was there but it just didn’t connect well.

I really enjoyed the imagery of the Wildness court and how different the fae there were compared to Shiel, Zev, and Finch.

I love Finch just because of the moments he has with the lanterns

I really love these books and this series, the imagery, the characters, the world. I cannot wait to see more of it, and find out where our fmc is headed! The spice is fun, but I feel like one of the characters is always interrupting! The slow burn is killing me but in a good way 😅

The Heir The Fae Forgot (A Court of Thieves and Traitors Book 2)

Aurra- Long Lost Fae Princess maybe
Ada- Human- Aurra Sister(fake)
Icarus- Fae- Lord of the Wildness Westen Court
Shiel- Fae- Lord of the Western Court
Finch- Fae
Zev- Fae- Queens Sword- Fox/Bear

“Now, let us see if we can free ourselves of this darkness at last, together.”

" I needed to learn how to take care of myself. I needed to figure out how to protect myself, and that started with protecting my heart."

Thoughts:

So this book is still a trainwreck but I like it.

So I will preference this and say that I was confused as sh!t after reading the 1st book and there was a lot of it I have no idea what was actually going on in these book except for a few main points.

*Aurra is a changeling fae who was swap out for a human child by her mother the queen. To maybe protect here probably. Never explained to us what changeling actually means in this book.
* Her fake parents hated her and beat her but are the ones who agreed to sell their child in replacement of Aurra in exchange for a flour mill & living expenses etc.
*something is up with the glamour which im assuming is more like magic in this book
* Both Icarus and Spiel are lords. Not sure is Zev or Finch are. Icarus and Zev are my Favs so far. Also whyd Zev have Aurra tattooed on his ribs? Not sure which court is Spiels? Western maybe? Icarus is the Lord of the Wildness. Okay well the first lines of book 2 clarify Spiel is the Lord of the Western Court.

I think my biggest issue with these books is the author assumes that certain things are known by the reader when they should really clarify those things in the book. I

I also didn't understand the non communication in the book. Especially with the fact that they know the ravens are something that Icarus can use to hear (and see) conversations. There's a part where hes taking her to the ball and she thinks that she didn't want to mention Speil being gone/missing because she didn't want to alert Icarus but he would have already known because his ravens were outside their room which they spoke about not even a page before this. Then she talks about how she's somewhat upset with Icarus But Speil, Zev and Finch could use her the same way.

Synopsis:

This book picks up where the 1st one ends and Aurra is not sure who to believe. She doesnt trust Speil but Finch & Zev are both his men. She trust Icarus more than she trust them. They go with Icarus to his court and she gets into a little bit of trouble there and almost gets killed by A person at the market but was saved by Zev and then Icarus killed the lady and all the people that watched and didn't Intervene. Icarus has a lot of power and you learn a little bit more about the back story of the courts but it's still pretty confusing. So they stay at Icarus court to determine what type of face she is even though there's some sort of spell/glamour on her to damper her.

Icarus tells Her story about how the 4 courts in the human realm were made.

In Avarath the fairy realm there was a war and a group of fae from the courts in Avarath made a deal with the glamour itself to go to the human realm. They lost certain abilities like being immortal. (“It bound them to a new kind of glamour, one divided between four new courts to keep the balance. But no deal is made with the glamour without an exchange.” “Their immortality.” ) Icarus isnt bound to these requirements as he was born from the wildness which is an anomaly the glamour created.

When this new glamour that was released in book one, Icarus think she can use the new glamour because she never used the old glamour.

FMC is all over the place and she doesn't know who to believe because all of the fae are trying to use her.

Finally Speil Tells her more Information and he mentions The Eastern court. The Eastern court is ruled by a king (or queen) who has all of the fae glamour for their court. When they die the glamour is suppose to go to their daughter. This didnt happen when the king died. When he died then the glamour knocked everyone down ( what happened at the market in book 1 ) . This is why it took so long for the 3 fae of the Western court to come to the conclusion that aura may be the lost princess. Speil says that's that only they know, the queen and the princess but if others find out they can try to take over that court as they dont have glamour. The week at the wildness court comes towards an end by having a ball. At this ball you Have the FMC really sitting down and processing her feelings on how she feels about everyone and she has a conversation with Finch and I do really like how they Is tied up that conversation and their relationship. I also like how they brought up the more polyamorous style relationship and how they were all honest about it. Then Icarus cuts in and flies up in the air with her. They have a conversation her glamor comes through and he drops her because she told him to let her go but then he saves her and they almost have sex. But the other guys show up thinking that she might be in danger because that can feel her through his tattoo and last time that happened she was in danger in the market. Then Speil says that Icarus was never going to let them leave after the week was up & They need to leave as soon as possible because the deal would end In an hour and they needed to be out of the forest by then. Then a big fight broke out and in order to stop any bloodshed FMC froze Icarus again and when they got to the bottom spiel says I guess we don't have to ask the Oracle if you are the princess because that glamour is the glamour that the Eastern Court king had. As they were running through the wood she was pulled to the Oracle and she went and talked to the Oracle and She asked her why her mother abandoned her and she told her because she hated her and the idea of her And that she was placed with a family that was far enough away but close enough that her mother could watch her suffer. The Oracle told her that she was cursed and the 2 leave her alone and never come back. The Oracle took her to Speil. They Had made it to the Southern court's border.

So, I quickly went to read the second book of the series after reading the first book, which striked me as very good!

This book continues off where the first book ended. Dead on. We get officially introduced into yet another character, one that seem to also play a bigger role in the scheme of things. I was very drawn into this character and was very excited to get to know them more. Every love triangle, or quadruplet needs their bad guy, yeah? Well, this one's it. Mind, I know it is an enemies-to-lovers, so for many people that would indicate that the one portrayed as the biggest enemy would become the lover. So, hear me out. After the next thing you'll read.

However the more I read into the book ... I know that the "bad" guy is supposed to be alluring and mysterious, and I feel like it is so much to this character that I would've liked to get even more insight into him as a human being (fae in this matter though) so I could better assess him and feel him out. I was a little disappointed we didn't get more as this seems to go so incredibly deep. But, with two more books to go, I'm guessing it won't be the last time we meet him. I should hope not at least.

Now, back to the enemies-to-lovers thing. This series is written in such a way that you actually can't be sure who that is. Aurra is very in tune with her thoughts and opinions, which makes things not definitive, something I love.

So, in this book we got to know our very first Court. Whilst I personally loved it; I mean forests, houses in biiiig trees, stars ... Stairs in trees. A home fit for a fairy. However, it is not all sunshine and daisies. The authors definitely turned the "Wonderful, magical, light, beautiful forest fae village/court" into something with a darker twist. I love that the fae aren't portrayed as beautiful, stunning, magical people with translucent wings, but rather a good selection. Fae that truly portrays their courts.

I am very in Aurra's head. What is she thinking now? How is the road ahead? Will she ever find trust or not? And of course, the looming thought of who is the enemy that becomes the lover? Then we have her development. Finally finding out the truth about herself and how to move on with what abilities she apparently has. I love that we see more and more of her, and see her grow more into herself.

I am curious as to how book three will turn out. The authors have built a very interesting world. And here in this book, it was more on the heavy side of world building, so a bit more of a heavy read than the first book. Still very good though!

A Court of Thieves and Traitors #2
Fantasy

⭐️⭐️⭐️

I liked the short recap of the first book at the beginning, it helped me to remember what had already happened.

The premise was good and had a lot of potential but unfortunately there were a few things that fell short and didn't quite hit the mark.

The pacing was a little off in places and there were quite a few typos/errors. At times Aurra was frustrating because she constantly flip flops between who she does trust and who she doesn't but I did like the side characters and their banter.

I loved how detailed the descriptions of the Wildness court was. It gave a good insight to Icarus, his court and his people.

There's a big miscommunication trope in this series so far and that's not really my thing. It just makes me want to grab the characters and give them a good shake 😂.

Overall this series could be great but there needs to be some more editing. The characters and the world building would benefit from some more development too.

Good book

It’s in the female characters pov. There are a Ton of thoughts flitting through her brain trying to make connections with the small scraps of info she’s received. It bothers me how she acts and thinks so I’m not a huge fan of hers. She’s flakey, and makes decisions that affects herself. Without realizing the repercussions. They warn her all the time about tricky fae and she Never heeds the warning. Always running into danger. I think she needs to grow a spine and backbone before she can claim her crown. It broke my heart to hear about Icarus. He’s been the one person who didn’t lie to her, he omitted truths but he finally came out and told her about the powers she’s supposed to have. The guys tell her he’s the one she should be worried about but the guys have all omitted truths to benefit them without telling her later on unless she points it out. I’m not a huge fan of the guys either. I do love the story I just wish that there was less secrets and the fmc does right by everyone rather than just herself.

Okay, this book had me hooked towards the end.
It had a slow start and some boring parts, but the tension and excitment at the end made up for it in my opinion.

I loved the idea and descriptions of the Wildness Court.

Icarus is still the most interesting character. But Aurra has my curiosity now. She finally learned that everyone wants to use her and anyone could betray her, even though she still seems way too surprised every time someone lies to her.

It definitely is a more interesting book than the first one, and it does make me want to know more about all the characters, the secrets, and the plot.

Another fantastic book in the new series from Analeigh Ford/Eden Beck.
The second book from A Court of Thieves and Traitors hits all the right places. We are discovering more things about Aurra, drip by drip we find out what forces are at play and her background.
Twists and turns - in true AF/EB style, makes you turn the pages faster than they are able to.

I devoured the book and cannot wait to read the next installment!
I highly recommend reading this series and other works by the author if you are into fantasy fae with spice or looking for something new!

This volume was moderately better than the last one.
She finally interacted with the dark lord and gets to know more about her place and destiny.
Sometimes, the female lead appeared to be too emotional.
The dark lord find a place in my heart though, but I still find the fact confusing that all four male characters seem to be a potential partner when in fact only the dark lord and the other blonde lord have chemistry, to be honest. I would be more than happy if she ends with only the dark lord as they seem to have the deepest connection.

This is the second book in the A court of thieves and traitors series and it is so good. I read it in one sitting and really enjoyed the entire book. Aurra learns so much in this book and we finally find out so many things that make you just want to keep reading to find out what’s going to happen next. The ending blew my mind and i cannot wait till the third book is out. Highly recommend reading this series if you’re into fae and spice 🥰

I’m so in love with this story!! I was pulled right back into the story and knew exactly what was going on despite having read multiple other books in between.
It’s really refreshing not knowing exactly what is going to happen in this series! Do I trust the golden haired males or do I not? Should I be suspicious of the dark haired lord or do I think I should give him another chance? I think this is what Aurra struggles with also 🤪
I can’t wait for the next book to be able to find out!

Finally something happened.
The fae part reminded me of that one straight book with the assasin husband. Idk. Icarus is great but a lying bastard. She was a lil too mad at Sheil. Poor finch but also not poor finch cuz it was very easy for him to say she wasn't like the others. Zev is the poor one. Doing everything right but still losing😭.
Hopefully he gets a happy ending if not anyone else(even aurra).
Anyway, imma go read the next one now.

Thank you so much for the Arc copy of this book!

The second book had me on my toes just as much a the first! I was wondering who she would choose and what path she would take and of course the twists and turns have led us to a cliffhanger! For Christmas can we have boom three please because I’m not ready to give up the brooding males!

who do you trust

The main character in this story is not your typical Damsel in distress, and I’m gonna let everyone do things for me. She has a backbone , she’s going to think for herself, and it doesn’t matter if you’re the hottest day in the realm she is going to question what you’re telling her. Spice level is PG which is good for younger fans. Good world building.

LISTEN, this might have been about as average as the first one in terms of plot, it is the continuity so-
BUT THE CHARACTERS, they are so loveable, I'm falling for each and everyone of them. Also that slow burn, smash.
I was not expecting the quality cliffhanger bc it wasnt the type of cliffhanger you think it is. It plays with your feeling *screams*
May the next one come soon pls

So this book totally lost the momentum built in the first book. I liked the first part where they were just trudging along, roadtrip style, but once they entered the Wildness, shit got boring.
A lot of the characters motivations didn't make sense. There seems to be a lot of jealousy but not a lot of chemistry. the FMC doesn't trust anyone but for stupid reasons. She acts like withholding information is on par with a massive betrayal, they are all strangers and it only makes sense that everyone involved would be playing things close to the chest. Also, I feel a little whiplash when it comes to her feeling about the males, is this supposed to be a reverse harem or is there one we are supposed to be rooting for, cause right now they all suck in their own ways.

I read the first book which was average and was hoping this one would get better. Story line is OK. The love interest in this book makes zero sense and it's giving me whiplash. I like a book that keeps me guessing - but this one just makes no sense. Writing feels a little immature and there are so many typos and grammatical errors. Not sure I'll bother with the third book.

So I don't really know what the plot is, or where this is going. Nothing seems to be wrapping up, but more and more threads appear. It feels like someone is knitting a jumper but just adding more and more arms so I don't even know what's meant to be happening anymore. Really hoping this launches into a load of closure in book 3...

In this second book the heroine starts to become more sure in herself and in her relationships. We get to know better the guys, my favorite is still Icarus (even though I know he's the bad one haha) and I have an hypothesis about that ending...

Aurra's personality isn't even similar to the first book, the character building for the rest is severely lacking and I was promised spice dammit!
I did however love the, not so sinister as made out to be, Wildnesses Court.
