While more entertaining to read than v13, it still was not up to the task. Slice-of-life at its heart with Fran first traveling to the school and then spending here days as a teacher and student with only near the end things coming ahead for the start of the next major plot. Since I don't mind slice-of-life that was not a big issue (and there have been earlier volumes like this), although I think some of the "proud father" routines (such as gushing of school uniforms) of Teacher were rather cringe. The whole hint at time travel/alternate time lines of the prologue makes me wary though. It is a trope I am not a fan off. Still, it was a pretty decent read, not the best of the series, but certainly not the worst.

A Symphony of Steel and Soul: Reflecting on Reincarnated as a Sword, Vol. 14 Yuu Tanaka's Reincarnated as a Sword continues its delightful dance of action, adventure, and heartfelt companionship in Volume 14, earning a resounding 5-star rating. This installment, like its predecessors, masterfully blends the power fantasy elements inherent in the isekai genre with genuine emotional depth, cementing its place as a standout series. What truly elevates Reincarnated as a Sword beyond simple wish fulfillment is its central relationship between Fran, the orphaned black cat beastkin, and her intelligent sword, Teacher. Volume 14 explores the deepening bond between them, moving beyond the initial mentor-student dynamic into a complex tapestry of familial love, mutual respect, and unwavering loyalty. While battles and dungeon crawls remain a core component of the narrative, it's these quiet moments of connection, the unspoken understanding between Fran and Teacher, that resonate most powerfully. Tanaka skillfully weaves in new challenges and formidable adversaries, forcing Fran and Teacher to constantly evolve and refine their skills. The strategic intricacies of combat, the clever utilization of magic, and the constant push for self-improvement keep the action sequences engaging and dynamic. The introduction of new characters and the exploration of previously untouched regions of the world add layers of richness to the overarching narrative, hinting at greater conflicts and mysteries yet to be uncovered. Furthermore, Volume 14 showcases Tanaka's ability to create a believable and captivating world. The intricacies of its politics, the nuances of its diverse cultures, and the dangers that lurk in its unexplored corners contribute to a sense of immersion that draws the reader into Fran and Teacher's journey. The world feels alive, with its own history and rules, making the characters' struggles and triumphs all the more impactful. In conclusion the book, "Reincarnated as a Sword, Vol. 14" is a testament to the series' enduring quality. It delivers on its promises of thrilling action, heartfelt emotion, and compelling world-building. Tanaka continues to refine his craft, providing readers with a truly exceptional isekai experience that goes beyond simple power fantasies and celebrates the enduring power of friendship, loyalty, and the unwavering pursuit of self-improvement. A well-deserved 5-star rating, and a strong recommendation for anyone seeking an engaging and emotionally resonant fantasy adventure.

This series is getting more hit or miss

I really enjoyed the first couple of books. Then one had a rough section but it wasn’t a big deal. Another, as I recall, basically had all the character development held as a flashback before the final battle- a flashback that should have been reflected in actions earlier in the tale but not- and I advised you could skip that book and be fine. A few other books have long chunks that I shall not be returning to on a reread.

This book lands as a miss for me.

All that matters from it is that some time travel nonsense is hinted at as a prolog/epilog and a character is reconned as a result. Then three days in a month of Fran’s life get told. One big fight at the end and that’s it.

The result is that you could skip this book too. Fran is a good person and able to teach a couple of classes. Nothing moved on the larger scale.

Another fun adventure

Another fun adventure. Pacing is getting better and better, weird lolli interludes are less frequent which definitely helps the adventure pacing.
