I enjoyed this story very much. Shane and Larissa first met about six years before, and spent a passionate couple of days together, after which Shane left before Larissa woke up. When this book begins Shane visits a Cyber Technology and Security convention to find out what the latest developments are, and suddenly sees Larissa at one of the stands. He goes to talk to her when suddenly a little ball of energy comes racing up, shouting "Mommy". Larissa picks her up, and Shane sees his eyes staring back at him. He has a child he knew nothing about.
The story continues with their tentatively growing relationship. He very quickly adores his daughter Emma, and is determined to be part of her life. His playboy ways, due in part to his very unsettled upbringing which has made him determined never to get emotionally attached to anyone, become a distant memory. Of course there are problems along the way, but we get a happy ending.
Lori is very good at writing emotions and the book is populated by people who all feel very real, that you care about. Larissa's brothers are very protective of her, and the occasion when they confront Shane to explain in explicit detail what they will do to him if he upsets their sister is both comic and touching, especially when his best friend Carter joins them.
This is a good read, it can be read as a stand alone, but reading the books of the series in order gives a greater depth to your reading. I received a copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review, the opinions expressed are entirely my own.
