Have you ever experienced a grief so deep that you knew it would forever change you
People often misunderstand grief, even as they are walking through it. Many people wrongly assume that the objective during grief is to eventually “get over it.”
But what if we have that objective wrong? What if instead of telling you to get over it, God wants to walk with you through it? What if He desires to perform a work of grace in your life that brings comfort, Christlikeness, healing, and greater intimacy with Him?
In these pages, Pastor Bill Prater shares from his own experience of losing his adult son in an accident and how God’s grace is sufficient—enough—to lead you through grief and loss.
For such a short work, the author's words dripped with wisdom, poignancy, and help for those who have faced tragedy in their life. I suppose (I've never had a tragedy the level of this man and his wife faced) that writing from the depths of one's soul and walking through this with the Lord brings a level that I would not be able to write from if I undertook to pen something on this subject.
Although it saddens me greatly what the author and his wife went through (and still go through to this day), I am thankful that God has used this overwhelming grief in this man's life to now help others. I plan on sending this book to my sister whose husband was murdered a number of years ago and still faces tremendous grief on a daily basis.
I purchased multiple copies of this book to give away to those whom God will allow me to cross paths with who are overwhelmed with a tragedy they are facing. I encourage every pastor and/or grief counselor to read this book and glean principles from it. Prater challenges some widely held (and often disseminated) myths that are glibly tossed around by Christians to those who are facing such tragedy in their life.
Excellent encouragement from a man who's been through one of this world's greatest heartaches. I've been able to use even the TITLE as a way to encourage people, sympathizing as much as possible with their pain, trying to help them get through it without just saying, "Well, you've just got to move on."
Love the format of the book, too. Easy to hand out and because of its size and topic, it will be read.
There's nothing brand new in the book, but the story itself is able to couch biblical truths in empathy. Even if I don't have direct experience with deep grief, Bro. Prater does, so here's how God is working in his heart...
Going through a trial? Experiencing loss? This book is for you! Prater writes about the emotions and realities of those going through trials or loss. The feelings that are perfectly NORMAL. His grace is greater! This is a tiny book, but mighty in thoughts! Go get this book.
I have so many thoughts on this book. I’ve tried writing a review now 3 times and it’s just too much to put into words. If you’d like to know my thoughts on it, please let me know.
This book as small as it was was mighty. Helped to place my feet back on the solid Rock.
