Land of Fury

Rate this book
Once upon a time, there was a desperate princess, a scythe-wielding huntsman, and a band of Viking horsemen.

Princess Thora, youngest daughter of the infamous Queen of Norseland, has only known life behind the walls of Winterwood Keep. Shut away from the outside world, Thora awaits the day she is called upon to fulfill her royal duty. When that day arrives, and Thora learns she will marry the kingdom’s most sinister chieftain, she must decide between her freedom and the dangers stalking the wild winter lands, or her obligation to her kingdom and confronting the evils that lurk the castle corridors she calls home.

It’s not long before Thora learns nothing is quite what it seems, and with an unlikely ally at her side, she embarks on a journey that will alter the fabric of Norseland forever.

Prepare to feel the kiss of winter on your skin as you are windswept in this heart-pounding, swoon-worthy Norse-inspired Snow White retelling.

Many thanks to the author, Lindsey Pogue for an early copy of this book. I am very late on my review which seems to be the story of my life since surgery. I'll catch up eventually.

I thought Thora and Zander were great main characters and absolutely explosive together. Thora is the strong heroine we all need and Zander is a man of many secrets who is kind of a cinnamon roll unless you cross him. I also really loved seeing characters from the rest of the series make an appearance. The way my mouth dropped at the twist Lindsey threw in the book, I'm surprised no one heard it and came running to make sure I was okay.

Definitely read the other two books before this one. While they are all standalones, it helps to have the characters straight and makes for a richer enjoyment of the story.

Seriously, friends Land of Fury is perfection. Lindsey gives us so much in this story:

>> Snow White Retelling
>> Huntsmen- a whole band of them 😉
>> Enemies to Lovers
>> Delicious Slow Burn
>> Secret Identities
>> Lies & Betrayal
>> Reluctant Heroine
>> Dual POV

Lindsey’s writing is truly exceptional. She really sucks you into the story and keeps you entranced throughout wondering what is going to happen.
Zander is everything you’re looking for in a brooding, scarred huntsman while Princess Thora has been shut away her whole life she desires for more- for better for the people of Norseland.
These two have some incredible chemistry; there is quite the push and pull and a lot of “Zander really needs to get it together”. As always Lindsey includes quite the set of secondary characters that I want to know more about!
Previously, Sea of Ruin was my favorite but Land of Fury definitely takes that spot now.

Don’t miss out on this one or the series- below are the other books in this series:

Ruined Lands
City of Ruin- Beauty & the Beast
Sea of Storms- Norse Mythology
Land of Fury- Snow White & the Huntsman

Make sure to check out her other books!

Many super thanks to @authorlindseypogue for sending me a copy of her book 🥰 all thoughts are mine.

WOW WOW WOW!
I didn’t think this series could get better, but LP just blew my mind! In this Snow White and the Huntsman retelling, we get the incredibly fast-paced and exciting story of Princess Thora and Huntsman Zander.
Thora is immediately intrigued by the young boy brought to the castle after a village raid. He’s scarred and trying to heal, both inside and out, and Thora wants nothing more than to be his friend. As the two grow, Thora becomes more and more disillusioned with her mother’s reign, while Zander remains her loyal and steadfast huntsman. Thora finds him aloof and uncaring, and her heart breaks with every bit of distance he puts between them.
But nothing is as it seems in the Norseland kingdom, and when Thora decides she cannot tolerate it anymore, she finds the mysterious huntsman trailing her. Zander has secrets, and Thora is shocked to learn the truth. She must decide to trust Zander, and Zander must prove himself.
This story was so so exciting!! I loved Zander and Thora, and these two had to WORK for their HEA! It made it all the much sweeter in the end 💙

I absolutely loved this 3rd book in the Ruined Lands series, a Snow White and the Huntsman retelling. There's just something about Lindsey's writing that draws you into the story right away and makes you love her characters.

A friends to enemies to lovers story with so much chemistry between the characters. I loved Princess Thora and Zander the Huntsman and really enjoyed getting the real story of Zander and his men as Thora was getting it. At one point after the Reaper had been mentioned a few times, I had an aha! moment back to Sea of Storms. I enjoyed the stories of all the secondary characters too and the inclusion of Brynn and Killian from the last book. Lots of adventure, action and love while Thora figures out her place in Norseland.

I'm always excited for more in each of Lindsey Pogue's series!

Absolute perfect tie up to the end of the series. I absolutely loved this series. The world building is so detailed and you can truly imagine being there. The characters are so... I can't find words. I just love this book and the whole series. The strong female main characters are what girls should look up to. The men are what true gentlemen should be. I will hold this series as a top favorite. I read this last book slowly knowing that is was the last one. I wanted it to last forever.

Land of Fury is an amazing rendition of Snow White and The Huntsman! It blends beautifully with the other stories in the Ruined Lands world she has created while still being able to be read separately. It’s a wonderfully written love story between not only a man and a woman, but also a princess and her country. I loved the character and world building, the misconceptions and the intrigue, and the happily ever after.

The spare princess. Lonely and generally disregarded Thora is the youngest daughter of the feared Queen of Norseland. She lives a life behind the castle walls. While her sister is being trained to one day be the queen, Thora is kept in reserve. She is a pawn and will one day be married off to ensure her mother keeps power. When that day comes Thora refuses to be married off to a cruel man who vows to break her. So she runs. And discovers the world. It is not at all what she has been told or expected. She has allies and people who have placed their hopes on her. Thora realizes the significance of her home and her significance to her people. It's time to change the world.

In this Norse Snow White and the Huntsman retelling, Lindsey Pogue has written my favorite of the Ruined Lands stories. From their first scene together Thora and Zander captivated me. Their relationship didn't come easy and was painful at times but you could feel their destiny. I never lost faith. Thora is innocence and goodness wrapped inside a fiery pint-sized redhead. She had a dignity that was apparent and garnered loyalty from all who met her. Her awakening was wonderful. The Huntsman Zander and his seven horsemen are as legendary on land as the Reaper was to the seas. I found them moving. Shrouded in secrecy, acting in power, their mission was the most difficult in the kingdom. I loved the deception and intention. This story turned everything on its head. Good is evil; destroyers are protectors; don't believe what you hear or even what you see. It was brilliant. In a land of darkness, ravaged by cruelty and greed, Thora was the light and the Huntsmen were the shadows. Together they signal a new day.

*No Spoiler Review*
Any referenced spoilers in this review are due to the relationship of this book to the other 2 in the series but do not reveal anything within the book.

Lindsey Pogue has truly outdone herself! Though this book could be read as a standalone, you will miss significant series culminating realizations, the ending of major arcs, and the satisfaction of a trilogy that closes with perfection. This being said, the setting is familiar to those who have read Sea of Storms. However, the nuances of the terrain, and the shift of the environment from one end of the continent to the other, are vividly described. My fingers were cold just reading it! The character-building was logical, emotional, and engaging. If you were frustrated with a main character’s actions, some secondary character soon after vented their frustrations at the main character - it was like the secondary characters were mind-readers…or reader-readers. The plot twists are layered and dynamic but well-played out like a weaver pulling the final thread in place. Having read the other two books in the trilogy, there were twists I had “hoped” for, or could glean pieces of. But just when I thought I may have my thumb on it, Ms. Pogue yanked the map right out from under me! I was thoroughly pleased not only with how this book ended, but how the series came to a close. There is more thing to note. One of my absolute favorite characters in this book is Odin. Odin is a wolf. Odin happens to embody characteristics of one of the other characters that that character will not allow anyone else to see until near the very end. The humanistic qualities that Odin carries is a literary trick that so few authors can pull off to witness this was richly rewarding. 10/10!

This book gave me Reign mixed with Game of Thrones vibes. And as usual just when you think you know for sure what’s going to happen, Lindsey throws a curveball. Absolutely brilliant as always.
You can tell the characters were unique and very well planned out. The setting was superb and really interesting. I mean, an eternal winter? With an ice queen to boot? Her writing style will forever win my heart. I’d probably buy her grocery list if it was for sale. Plot was great as always, she flawlessly weaves all of the ruined lands together and she always keeps me guessing! Definitely a good amount of intrigue in this book, and tons of surprising turns. At one point we get an event from Zander POV, but it was written in such a way that the whole truth wasn’t revealed to us until later on. Relationships between characters made sense, especially Zander and Thora considering that they grew up together. The tension between them was also off the charts. Needless to say I enjoyed this book VERY much and I would definitely recommend! I myself finished it in about a day/day and a half. Fantastic!

This is the third book in the A Ruined Lands series and just like the first two books, it's an amazing story. In the second book, Sea of Storms, we learn of the unpopular Queen Sigrid and her treatment of her people. In this book we find not everything is exactly how it seems.
At the beginning of the book we meet young Thora and Zander. At 11 Zander's village is burned down on the queen's orders with Zander being the only survivor. He is taken back to the castle to be cared for. There he meets Thora, at 6 she is the younger princess, her older sister Siggy will be the next queen
This book has so many different themes running through it, there is always something interesting happening . There is family duty, the struggle between good and evil, personal and religious freedom, and of course slow burning romance.

Land of Fury Review

Land of Fury by Lindsey Pogue starts off with a gripping scene of a brutal fiery raid on a village, specifically a house with a young boy trapped in the flames. And then the queen, one of the raiders, saved him but he doesn’t know why. This is an exciting start to a fast-moving easy to read novel. The play back and forth between the boy, Zander, the queen’s young daughter Thora and the queen who becomes increasingly more cruel as the children grow to adulthood is well put-together. I enjoyed the main plot line as well as several small plot lines which did not detract but supplemented the main plot line about Zander and Thora.

Fantastic adventure! This book had me on the edge of my seat, thinking I had figured out what comes next, but then surprising me in the best ways. The characters are beautifully written, and the villains had me anxiously anticipating their demise. The world development is spectacular, and I felt like I could see every detail. I strongly recommend reading this series in order. Though the stories themselves stand alone, each book builds up to the next, and they need to be read in order, to get the full effect.

Lindsey definitely has a way of writing stories that immerse you into the action! With the world building and the unique characters that are very relatable. Land of Fury was no exception!

I have really loved this series!! Land of Fury just might be my fave! 😉 Seriously, you had me at Snow White and the Huntsman but Vikings?! Yes! Please!!

Thora and Zander’s relationship doesn’t come easy but that’s what makes it worth it! The development of the characters is **chef’s kiss** and the development of the story is perfectly written!

This series has been Amazing! I definitely recommend!!

Another amazing tale from the Forgotten Lands World. I have really loved these novels, which tell the stories of a future world forever changed by climate change. Book 3, Land of Fury, is a Snow White retelling set in the frozen Norselands. Characters from Sea of Storms do play a role.

Princess Thora has lived a sheltered life but she doesn’t realize how much she has been used as a pawn in other people’s games. As secrets come to life, she figures out what her place will be to move her country forward.

Gripping! Life will get in the way of your reading pleasure!

This is a phenomenal addition to the series. What a world! And these characters are fighting to be my favorites in the series!

I know I said it about the last book too, but I could not put this one down either. The adventure, the twists, the maniacal evil that exists in this perfect portrayal of a devastated world and society trying to survive.

Thora and Zander will captivate you, reeling you into their world, and by the time you 'come to' you will want to start from the beginning again!

As much as I loved all 3 books I think I loved this one a little bit more. AND I really loved Thora and Zander. Siggy was pretty much a wimp and her mother, the Queen, was a total witch. She didn't care who she killed. And the Abbess was very cruel for belonging to the church, and she got what she deserved.

There was romance but not very descriptive and no swearing.

As for the dual POV's narration: Awesome! Neill Thorne and Rebecca Woods both did a wonderful job on the reading parts and their emotions. Overall, it was a perfect series.

Once again Lindsey Pogue creates a strong main pair. Thora and the huntsman are wonderfully crafted characters, with their strengths and weaknesses (mostly strengths) shown in an adventurous story. I have loved the previous Forgotten Lands books and this is no different. Reading the other two Forgotten Lands books before this is not necessary, but it does make it better when characters from the previous books appear! You won’t regret reading this book!

I couldn’t put down this fractured retelling of Snow White! Lindsey has a knack for taking old fashioned fairy tales and making them into post-apocalyptic magic without the magic. Her characters suck you in, so you can’t help but devour their stories into the wee hours of the night. I can’t wait for the next Ruins Lands story!

Zander... What can I say? Killian was my favorite MMC in Lindsey's books, but I never saw Zander coming. I absolutely adore a dark, brooding hero. The darker and more brooding, the better! Zander is fantastic. Everything he did for Thora...

This is a must-read book for anyone who loves a good Viking-style romance!

“ After all that has happened between Thora and me—and all the truths she’s learned—it ends with meeting the infamous Reaper of the North Sea.”

The third book in this series and my personal favourite with the seven being horsemen rather than dwarves this story is everything I never knew I wanted but got anyway! It is a darkly delicious tale of a kingdom seeped in treachery, ambition and greed. The hope of a better future whispered in the shadows as they face the charred remains of the rebellion, this story is filled with deceit and half truths. I loved it!

I would recommend reading this series in order to fully appreciate the subtle nuances and nods to other characters as it only adds to the emotional pull of this story as the truth unravels and the truth is given air to breathe… I am desperate for more there are so many characters and possibilities left to explore.

A five star retelling that had me gripped from the first page.
