This review is of Deadly Deceptions, book 6 in Lori Sjoberg’s Six Points Security series. I received an advance copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. This book in the series was a little different than the first five books. They were all told about one of the Flint brothers who own and run Six Points Security. This book is about one of the men they have “adopted” into the family, Russell Jackson. Kind of. It’s really more about Essie, his ex-wife. Well, it’s told through her point of view more than Jackson’s. And her point of view is fascinating because, yes, she is a woman fighting in a man’s world. She had worked covert ops for the United States government where you did what needed to be done to keep America safe. But she left that world behind and was a civilian. And that’s where this book shines. How does Essie reconcile her different lives and the people who are in them? Will she learn to trust, to share, to know when it’s okay to ask for help? And how will the people around her react to her? Sorry, but you’re going to have to read it to find the answers! This book has everything: stabbings, shoot outs, car chases, a few things I won’t spoil by mentioning, and of course romance. This was one of my favorite reads and I hope you enjoy it as much as I did! You don’t need to read the other books in the series, but after reading this one, why wouldn’t you?
I am happy that Jackson finally got his own story. Jackson has never stopped loving Essie and wishes he had never agreed to the divorce. When Essie comes to him in need of help, he will do whatever it takes to keep her safe, help her with a case, and win her back. Essie never really got over loving Jackson, either but she is hesitant to give him another chance. Essie is a kicka$$ woman who can handle almost any situation on her own. But sometimes it takes a team to protect good from evil and Six Points Security is going to do all they can to protect one of their own. An awesome page-turner of a book.
I enjoyed this story. It is fast paced and a page turner, you need to know what happens next. Essie has worked behind the scenes for the government for a long time, spying and sorting out the bad guys. She had to leave the agency when she fell in love and married Jackson, but their marriage fell apart. She now does similar work in the private sector. One night she is returning home when her phone buzzes to let her know there is an intruder in her apartment. It turns out to be her ex-partner from the agency, Vaughn Yeager, who she thought she had seen die in an explosion six years before. He wants her help in disposing of a group of Russian agents who have been sent to assassinate a Russian Mafia family member. She agrees to help him, in the past she was nearly killed by the leader of the Russians, and is pleased to try and get her own back on him!
It turns out the scenario is not quite as she was told, and the person they are trying to kill has never been part of the mafia despite being born into the family. She is in fact the wife of one of the owners of Six Points Security, where Jackson works, and Essie must put the past behind her and work with Jackson and the team to prevent Nina from being killed. Vaughn has moved to the dark side, he wants to kill Nina purely for the huge sum of money the contract will pay. Essie and the team have a race against time to save Nina, and try and find out who put out the contract on her, only then will she be safe.
The story heats up when Essie’s plan is put into action, it gets very tense. Lori is very good at raising the tension, the reader is on the edge of their seat waiting for everything to go wrong! A good, exciting read for a lazy day.
I was so happy to return to the world within the Six points security team. Essie and Jackson have a complicated history and this is the backdrop to a wonderfully intense, intriguing story full of drama and suspense. Underlying this is their connection and love. Once I started reading I couldn’t put it down. I was hooked from the first page to the last. Catching up with our favourite characters felt like coming home again. Wonderful story and a fabulous series which I’ve really enjoyed. I highly recommend this book and series.
It's so great to head back to Six Points Security! This was always an amazing world and the addition of Jackson and Essie's story makes it even more exciting. Jackson is a fantastic modern day alpha male who realizes everything that Essie brings to the table. He respects and supports her strength and follows her lead even while doing everything in his power to protect her and win her back. Essie is weary and hesitant to trust but the Six Points group has each other's back and she learns to lean into the new support she's found. I voluntarily reviewed an ARC.

It was really sweet to see a strong friendship throughout the book.. The romance was really good in the story and i am glad they got a happy ending.. I liked that the flint brothers see everyone that works at Six Points Security for them like family.. I liked how Protective Navarre was with Jackson when Essie was around because he does not want to see jackson hurt again and he also wants to see him happy so later on you can see that Essie has changed and he can see how happy jackson is because he sees jackson more like a brother to him..
characters i did not like ⦁ Konstantin [Nina's Uncle] ⦁ Vaughn [Essie's Mentor]
This book was amazing and i am so glad to see that Jackson got a happy ending and that he found a way to get his second chance with his EX.. I can't wait to read book 7 in this series because it follows Pinto's story..
I was always a believer in the saying "you can never go back" but Essie and Jackson prove that you most certainly can. They were madly in love but ended up divorced, something Jackson deeply regrets and to be honest neither of them can move on with their lives.
But it's Jackson to whom Essie turns when an assignment goes wrong and she almost dies. Her mentor plans to take out Nina Flint, a mafia princess. As Essie and Jackson work closely together to thwart his plans and save Nina, they realise that they still love each other but does that mean they can make it work this second time around?
The storyline is well-written, intriguing and tense and held my attention but there were moments where I laughed out loud and I admit that some of the ways revenge was extracted made me wonder what would happen if I ever upset this author!
Not bad...worked OK as a standalone, has likable characters, a believable second chance romance (even if they went a little *too* fast from "we can never work" to "sure! let's give it a try again!"), and a decent amount of suspense.
I'm still not totally convinced that their homeowner's insurance is going to cover destruction by armed assassins, though...
(Also--am I the only one who keeps reading "Six Points" as "Six Flags"? Or that is bothered by the heroine's name being a nail polish brand? Never mind--I'm sure that last one probably IS just me... ;))
I love Lori’s Six Points Security series. Jackson and Essie’s story doesn’t disappoint. Intrigue and heat!!! Great writing and a great story to bring all the characters we love in the series back together. Definitely check it out and the others if you haven’t already.
This was a good story with a kick ass heroine. Essi is a former CIA agent. When her former, supposedly dead mentor, asks for her help to save someone she agrees. Unfortunately he is the killer not the savior and since Essi stopped him she is now in danger. Enter her Ex. I liked that Essi could take down anyone who took her on.
This series just keeps getting better! I love Essie, what a heroine! Love that Jackson and Essie are making it work. Navarre is something else, I cannot wait for the next book!
