Charlie Monroe loves everything about Baxter Tree Farm. From the smell of the pine trees to the shimmer of Christmas lights, Charlie is at home on the farm. Having managed the farm since graduating high school, Charlie considers herself an expert on all things Christmas trees. Her dream is to continue to grow the place she loves so much and make it a must visit place in Maine.
But when the owner dies just before Christmas and leaves half the farm to Charlie, the last thing she expects is the other new owner to be her high school rival. And for her to still look so damn beautiful.
Delaney Baxter doesn’t know the first thing about owning a Christmas tree farm. After living in Florida since college, it has been years since Delaney has seen snow or even bothered to put up a tree for the holidays. She’s reluctant to go back to her hometown to settle her aunt’s affairs. And when she finds out Charlie also inherited half of the farm, Delaney is ready to leave town as soon as possible.
After calling a truce for the holidays, Delaney slowly begins to realize that Charlie isn’t the villain she’d remembered her to be. As for Charlie, she’s wondering why Delaney looks so perfectly at home sitting in the kitchen. Can these two former rivals learn to work together in life and love? Or will their Christmas inheritance tear them further apart?
The Christmas Inheritance takes us back to Moonflower Cove. Charlie is happy running Baxter Tree Farm and thinks it will be hers after the owner's death. She is shocked to learn she owns half the property now, with Delaney, receiving the other half from her aunt. The two women share a painful history but maybe a Christmas miracle is at work that will bring them their greatest happiness. I enjoyed this novella. It's not overly angsty, which is exactly what I look for in a Christmas story. Charlie and Delaney are likable, yet flawed. This is a welcome addition to the Moonflower Cove universe.
What a lovely Christmas story. Delaney and Charlie met during break in at Aunt Rebecca's tree farm and fell in high school, only Delaney got scared and ran. When school started and softball tryouts ended, because of Charlie, Delaney was still on the JV team, Charlie had taken her starting varsity spot. Fast forward 22 years, both women are 40 and Delaney is divorced and has a 15 year old daughter Sadie .Charlie is running and living on Aunt Rebecca's tree farm. Because of Aunt Rebecca's passing, Delaney and Sadie are in town, and Delaney and Charlie get the shock of their lives, they both own 1/2of the house and tree farm. Will they reconcile? You (in your mind) see beautiful scenery, and feel the walls coming down between Delaney and Charlie. You'll enjoy this lovely story.
I enjoyed the main storyline. The extra POV’s at the end were a little confusing to me but that might be because this is the only book I’ve read in this series, so I could just be out the loop. There was a couple of spicy scenes, some enemies to lovers vibes at the start, forced proximity. Definitely worth a read for a nice short sapphic holiday read.
Fun enough story that is part of the Moonflower Cove world. The Christmas tree farm is a general occurrence in all other books so it’s fun to get a story of the farm.
It’s sort of a second chance romance and one of the characters is overcoming some internalised teenage homophobia so it’s a lot packed in a short story, it does work though.
I’m new to this author and read the story as it is part of the Tis the Season Holiday Collection. The author has several books set in this small town in Maine but I’m not sure if any characters of her other books overlap here. Delaney Baxter senior year is shattered when she doesn’t make the varsity softball team. She loses the spot to Charlie Monroe who is new to town. Fast forward twenty-two years later and they meet again at a lawyers office. Delaney is now divorced and lives in Florida with her 15 year old teen daughter. She has come to settle her aunts estate, hoping to turn around and make a quick sale of her property. Charlie Monroe has stayed in town and much to her surprise learns that Delaney and she are co-inheritors of the aunts home and Christmas tree farm. Charlie has worked there for years and was told her would inherit the farm and she has been living in the house for six years.
I like the premise of the story but felt some parts of the story and characters are rushed over or not explained. I never felt I knew how Charlie felt about Delaney outing her in high school. Nor did Delaney ever apologize or own her part of that. I was unclear how Delaney makes a living. Is the farm that profitable? Part time coaches in my school district make less that $1000 a season. Other than falling back into a romance I knew very little about Delaney especially. (There is slightly more history for Charlie but not much.) I want more conversations between the MCs to know they were connecting more than just physically. I know that is a lot to ask in a novella but I would have taken that over them checking in with friends.
Fast! This book was good it went straight to the point. Enemies, then awkwardness, and lovers. There's a kid in the mix. Not bad! I did find weird how the inheritance thing happened, who does that?!
This was such a surprise. Read it in a morning and was just such a delight to read. Yes there were a couple of odd words etc but for a quick morning read in bed, it was such a lovely quick love story. Thoroughly enjoyed. I loved the main characters and the whole storyline. This will definitely be on my list of re-reads when I need to feel all warm and fuzzy. I hope to see these three (heck I loved Jordan and Spencer at the end as well) in Moonflower Cove more...and any developments with Sadie and Penny.
High school rivals inherit a Christmas tree farm together 20 years after falling out, and maybe their rivalry stemmed from... Feelings
This was a really enjoyable read, and I loved the set-up of the story. I was ready to be super moved by them overcoming their rivalry and admitting their feelings for each other, but I felt like we kind of skipped over the part where they resolve their rivalry. It went from rivals to lovers a little too sudden for me. All the same, I did really enjoy this.
I loved all the books in the series. I like Addison Clarke's writing style. I love the chemistry in the main characters, and the strong family and friends relationship. I will continue to follow this author in the future.
When Rebecca, the owner of Baxter Tree Farms in Maine, passes away, her will leaves half to Charlie who has been managing it since graduation from high school. Imagine her surprise when the other half now belongs to Delaney, the owner's niece. The same niece who was her secret girlfriend in high school. Now, a successful realtor in the Florida Keys with a fifteen year old daughter, Sadie, they return to the Cove for her inheritance.
Although the backstory is filled with bitterness and insecurities, the story is positive, cute, sweet and filled with a Christmas miracle! It's a wonderful second chance for all of them!
Listened to this on my way to NC last weekend. I laughed, pretty sure I got a little teary, and just overall enjoyed listening to this one. It represents a lesbian woman who doesn't realize she is until her 30's. This stems from a love/hate relationship with a girl from her highschool softball team. They reunite when an aunt of one of the girls dies and leaves half of everything to each of them. This hit home as a mom whose daughter just doesn't seem to like her either. The journey of finding comfort in a place that's least expected from both the mom and daughter was just tugging my heart strings the whole time. Definitely keeping this on my repeat for Christmas reads.

I think my main reason for not getting on with this as much as I hoped I would is that it’s written in third person, and I don’t dislike third person but it’s not my favourite when it comes to romance books. It also felt a bit sudden and snappy, which I think was partly because it’s a novella and not a full length book.
Saying that, I did enjoy it and thought their romance was cute. I also liked that it was middle-aged (ish) women, one who has a child, because I don’t get to see that a whole lot.
I love Christmas stories and this one takes place in one of my favorite book settings!
Addison Clarke has brought together two ladies that just had to be together! Delaney and Charlie, antagonists to lovers a combination that needed to be shared. The characters are just beautifully written and brought to life to spar and reluctantly fall into place. The setting of moonflower cove’s Christmas Tree farm is brilliant. Let your heart be lite up with the festivities and enjoy the hard hot cider/hot chocolate as this decked out story takes you on a sleigh ride of love.
A nice Christmas story. I always wonder how this would work, twenty two years after after a short term affair. The two MCs are put back together. The book is pretty short so everything happens quickly. It is a fun read, the MCs are interesting, the daughter is a nice addition. We meets some friends and focus on the future, with only enough of the past to have the present make more sense. A nice approach for a Christmas story.
OK, Delaney had to redeem herself right from the beginning. However, I think that over 20 years apart and being a mom to Sadie really helped leaps and bounds in that aspect. With the rocky history between Delaney and Charlie, seeing each other again after so long and having Sadie there really helped the two reconnect and fall in love again. Just let go and let love... And I really ejoyed the way Charlie and Sadie bonded - that was really sweet.
Charlie and Delaney were together in high school, twenty two years earlier, but things ended badly. Now after Delaney’s Aunt Rebecca who is also Charlie’s boss and best friend dies, things get interesting. Each of the women assumed that Rebecca’s house and Christmas Tree farm had been left to them, but Rebecca left half to each woman. This is a warm, comforting second chance story, most certainly worth reading on a cold day!
Of the 6 books in the series, this is one of my favorites. Charlie & Delaney were mentioned in a prior book, but it was nice to get their background story. They are super cute, and I really like Sadie.
I've enjoyed the book series a lot and will look out for any additional books in the series, if there will be.
A high school crush that gone wrong. Delaney just had a bad temper when things didn't go her way when she didn't get to be the varsity pitcher. Charlie got that and lost Delaney. Years later Delaney returns with her daughter and the crush for both is still there. A lovely crush that gets to become a wonderful relationship
The book is a little short for me, making it a little too easy and simplified, but I think that's mostly because I enjoy this authors style of easy reading and want more of it. A longer novel would allow for greater depth. Really lovely read though.. smooth, easy, romantic.
I will start by saying that this book is very cute and I did rather enjoy it. However I must warn you there are so many spelling and grammar mistakes in this, that it almost hurt to read. Like it killed nearly every mood. You just become immersed and then you get jarred back to reality by something.
This is such a wonderful story. Had the best Hallmark moments. I really loved the characters and the different themes. This was one of my favorites of the series.
The Christmas Inheritance brings Charlie and Delaney back together for an unexpected second chance. Their initial resistance is largely bluster and fades quickly as they begin to reconnect. This is a cute holiday tale with the expected HEA.
I missed reading a entertaining frenemies to lovers story, and this one was pretty good, i liked the couple's development but i wanted more drama about the high school past situation.
