Helen works for Heaven, a high-end matchmaking company with a tailored and personal approach. As their number one matchmaker, there’s no way she can turn up at the company Christmas party solo, but she struggles to find a date.
Matilda is a corporate party planner hired by Helen to organise Heaven’s Christmas party. At the busiest time of year, she has her hands full with work, but she finds herself distracted by the beautiful matchmaker who has a terribly unromantic approach to finding love.
According to Helen, they’re a match made in hell, and she sternly holds on to her belief that long-lasting love can only be found through a long compatibility questionnaire. But perhaps her complex formula is missing that one crucial a sprinkling of festive magic.
Lise Gold is an author of lesbian romance. Her romantic attitude, enthusiasm for travel and love for feel good stories form the heartland of her writing. Born in London to a Norwegian mother and English father, and growing up between the UK, Norway, Zambia and the Netherlands, she feels at home pretty much everywhere and has an unending curiosity for new destinations. She goes by 'write what you know' and is often found in exotic locations doing research or getting inspired for her next novel.
Working as a designer for fifteen years and singing semi- professionally, Lise has always been a creative at heart. Her novels are the result of a quest for a new passion after resigning from her design job in 2018.
When not writing from her kitchen table, Lise can be found cooking, at the gym or singing her heart out somewhere, preferably country or blues. She lives in London with her dogs El Comandante and Bubba.
Another good quality festive read. This time about two professional women, who are a bit gun-shy about relationships. One is a matchmaker, the other is an events planner.
Helen from Heaven Matchmaking is all work, but aches for something more. But her walls are up, as she immerses herself in work. Matilda the Event Planner is exactly the same. Can these two women really find themselves together when they are so similar. Yet so different, too?
This was a sweet story, with a lot of honesty and communication that I enjoyed a lot. It's great to see the women opening up and being honest about their feelings and desires. The chemistry is sparkling, and you can't help but root for them.
Communication is key and sexy… and plenty of communication between the MCs in CIH.
2 successful ladies, Helen and Matilda, who are apprehensive when it comes to relationships and matters of the heart. They both met over work matters where Helen ‘The Matchmaker’ assumed responsibilities for organising a Christmas party at her workplace. Time is running short and with Helen swamped with work, she engaged a Corporate Party Planner which is where Matilda comes in.
They both worked in tandem to get the party underway, conversations start to flow between the 2, and in the short time frame of about a week or so, feelings evolved between them....insta-like, insta-lust, insta-meet the moms (even though Helen’s initial thought was they were both just not compatible, not suited with one another). Give them another month or so then perhaps there’ll be a U-haul. Nope, didn't go that far though as this is a short read with minimal angst and plenty of festivities and warmth.
I’d go with the written version of this novella. I could tell while listening to it that I would enjoy it more in that format.
Tessa Stavers is Lise Gold’s go-to narrator and while some of her erotica titles are quite enjoyable, there’s little differentiation between character voices. That seemed to detract a bit from this romance.
In general I’m a fan of Gold’s books and look forward to the next one!
I truly enjoyed reading about Helen and Matilda. I loved their growth and I was rooting for them throughout the book.
The way Lise Gold was able to fit such depth in this novella is so brilliant. I felt the story was complete, not missing anything at all, yet I still wanted more in a way that left me still feeling content with what I got.
Save for a few typos here and there, this has been one the best books I've read this year! Definitely among my favourites.
This was also my first read by Lise Gold and to say I'm impressed would be an understatement.
Overall, the story is short, sweet and has a nice depth to it. I LOVED it and would recommend it to anyone. It's a lovely way to get into the Christmas spirit too!
I have a few favorite go to authors that I will stop what I am doing and read their next book. Lise Gold for sure is one of them. This is a super cute Christmas romance where you find yourself falling for the two mains. It's a quick romance so don't blink. It does work and I will be waiting for the next Lise Gold romance. 4 stars
This is a beautiful story full of doubt and being unsure of feeling, but it's also about finding love at Christmas time.Once again Ms Gold has given us a fantastic book follow Helen and Matilda as they find that computer programs are not always right.
It was August when I read this cute little Christmas story. I really felt like reading something by Lise Gold and this was my only option at the time. I liked the short chapters, alternating POV's between the two MC's. Of course Lise characters were lovely again. There isn't a single book by her I don't like and this one is no exception. Lise Gold writes chemistry and as we learn in this novel that's a very important ingredient for a relationship. I thoroughly enjoyed it under the scorching August sun. 4+⭐️
…a whole lot of meet cute. A perfect holiday novella. If you’re looking a delight read, very low angst and buckets of happiness then this should suit perfectly.
If by chance you are as old as I am then you may remember Robbie the robot from Space Family Robinson from the 1960's. Danger, Danger. Warning! Two professional women who made a habit, don't stay over and cuddle. One a professional matchmaker and one who is an event planner. What starts out with questions as in matchmaking is thrown out the window. Who knew, people actually talk to each other and cuddling is allowed. Enjoy!
As always, Lise Gold stories are the best. Now I must visit London at Christmas time to visit all of the special holiday locations mentioned in this romantic story.
How long is a chief officer at heaven which is a high end reading service. She volunteered to do her Christmas party but it’s gotten too busy so she higher than event planner Matilda. While planning the Christmas party, how long on Matilda got to know each other very well. He well how long is ass to be on a dating show for her company and she has mass with all these different women however there is only one woman she wants. I found the story very good and the characters were absolutely delightful. The story happens in London and we got a very good feel by how old is London at Christmas. I recommend this book for all who like romance and Christmas.
4 stars. I love Gold’s writing style. I really need to read more by her because what I’ve read has been so enjoyable and this was no exception. Such a sweet holiday romance with just a bit of spice. Matilda and Helen never thought it would work between them because they’re both workaholics who don’t do romance and it was so satisfying watching them let their guards down and fall for each other. I liked both characters as individuals and their romance was so cute and I liked the way it developed. They had wonderful chemistry and really were perfect for each other. This was a lovely low angst read and I would recommend it if you’re looking for some happy holiday cheer.
So, a lot of "awwwww" and giggling happened during this reading
First and foremost, y'all should eat the Brazilian potato salad. That's all
Anyway, you can always count on Lise Gold to make you feel good with her stories. The characters aren't perfect, but they always work on building healthy relationships. They fret about things, feel insecure, they have issues, but in the end they talk and take the leap without making a fuss over it. And better yet, in a well described and interesting background, that even though isn't the main focus, just adds to the ambience.
I really liked Helen and her openness to different ways other than here's, but I loved Matilda even more with her sort of eccentric ways. They paired really well.
A really worthy reading and it's a very quick reading.
A story of a matchmarker Helen that can't find love but is the best at matching other people. A big Christmas party that she doesn't have time for she hires a planner. When things are only a few weeks before the party Matilda makes Helen go through all the things for the party. As they start to become friends Matilda has Helen analyze her for a partner but the thing is They are both alike in regards to relationships. A wonderful story of let their walls down and enjoying a relationship
I really liked the dynamic between the two characters, how they are so similar and yet kind of opposite. Helen is sure of the criteria the perfect woman for her should check, I loved when her certainties are shaken. There is theory and there is real life sparks. I enjoyed this christmas novella, even if with this format, characters settle down at the speed of sound. I could totally see it in a full novel version.
Sometimes the novella doesn’t have enough information or leaves you unable to connect with characters that aren’t fully rounded. This is NOT the case with Lise’s story. She rounds out all the characters and tells a lovely story of two women who just think they’re not perfect for each other. The entire story you’re cheering them on to realize that the other can be the destiny if they just try, and a reader is left elated by the end. Definitely worth the read.
If you like "meet cute" holiday romances, this is a read for you. Matilda and Helen have good chemistry and would make a great couple if they could get past their fears. This is a sweet romance with little drama and a happy ending..... What more could you want for the holidays.
Wow another amazing storyline I loved the main characters chemistry it shone through and their own doubts over whether they can navigate and hold on to their relationship with out either checking out because they are scared was incredibly written congratulations
I love Lise Gold's stories and that includes this one! Heaven and Matilda meet professionally and both agree they would definitely Not be compatible romantically. They are of course proved extremely wrong in this lovely holiday romance. If you like romances with happy endings, pick it up and read it - you won't regret it!
This is a date-less matchmaker trope Christmas romance with minimal amounts of angst. There is limited character development, and the supporting cast is thin; however, the conclusion is satisfying and seasonal.
Lisa outdid herself with this delightful story. I was sorry it was so short. Wondered about Helen and Matilda's future relationship and businesses prospered?
Breaking down their own rules and barriers, matchmaking and successful Helen meets an unexpected Matilda, who is a party planner for businesses. After hiring Matilda and they talk about how they aren’t a good match, things become interesting between the two right before Christmas!
This was a fun, easy, and fast read—perfect for a holiday escape! The characters were cute, and the chemistry between them felt natural and engaging. If you’re looking for a light and enjoyable book to relax with, this is a great choice!
