They say magic happens at Christmas. Eve Lux was about to find this out when she accepts a much needed ride from Carly Campbell to help fulfill her mother’s last wishes.
Come along on this holiday adventure complete with music, a road trip through a snowstorm, a very wise Grandma, and a Christmas miracle that comes in the form of an adorable little dog named Fletcher.
Jamey Moody is a small town Texas girl living her best life with her little terrier Leo, who brings her a toy every time she walks in the house. When she’s not reading or writing her next sapphic romance you can find her on a bike ride, paddle boarding the lake, or in the middle of an adventure. Reach out, she’d love to hear from you.
New York City and Christmas but Eve feels no joy - she has the sad task of taking a road trip to Virginia to spread her mom's ashes in her home town. Her best pals Madison and Anthony come into the bar where she works bringing along a co-worker Carly. When their eyes meet a tiny spark is lit. Days later and one undriveable car weighing on her mind, Eve learns that Carly is heading in the same direction to spend Christmas with her family. A road trip together is quickly arranged. Snowy roads, carols, bantering, flirting and a shared room - Eve's hurts are soothed by Carly's warmth and the little ember grows stronger. Family, unexpected connections, belief, strength of character and lots of love feature in this book. One look between Eve and Carly, shared history and a life changing road trip leads slowly to much, much more. Jamey Moody writes about love and happy endings and this one doesn't disappoint. This little Christmas tale is a hit.
These characters move way too fast and I don’t like this story much. This definitely wasn’t for me. The middle part was ok, towards the end I was ready to just stop reading this. It’s all because this is a type of story that doesn’t work for me
As always Jamie filled this book with Christmas love and magic. All it takes is one look for Eve and Carly to know there is a connection between them. Eve offers to give Carly a ride to her mom's old home town. They get to really know each other and start to fall even harder. It may be a fast romance but when it feels this right how can you slow down. A wonderful story to read and enjoy.
This is a lovely, no aghast Christmassy story about Eve & Carly falling in love on a road trip home. Ms Moody has done it again with book, her writing gets better and better. If you want to get in a Christmas mood then read this book. Would highly recommend.
I have to admit I came close to DNFing this, because the beginning didn't pull me in, but I'm SO glad I stuck with it, because this ended up being one of my faves in this collection.
Once the road trip part started, I was hooked, I enjoyed it so much. This book largely deals with grief as the main character has just lost her mother, and it was amazing to see her fall in love and get accepted into the love interest's family.
So mushy I had to re-read bits to make sure I had it right! Lovely story, excellent characters. Definitely stand alone: is this part of the Tis The Season Holiday Collection?
Readers can always count on Moody to give them a heartfelt and tender romance. Her tales are filled with the stuff a true romantic can not refuse. These swoon-worthy love stories are told with a compassion and sentimentality that always appeal to fans of this genre. Her latest one is no different; With One Look hugs the heart big time, giving readers all the “feels.”
With One Look is a rather short story, so Moody sets the stage quickly and hooks readers. She keeps things tight by building the story around strong themes and solid characters. Readers find her romantic leads alluring. Eve has a lot of emotional appeal and readers are immediately drawn to her. The same goes for Carly. She is a caring, thoughtful and generous woman, and the reading audience easily bonds with her. However, it the pair’s insta-connection that readers find the most captivating. Together the two spark more chemistry than fireworks on the Fourth of July, and it results in one bewitching romance.
Final remarks…
This is a lovely, quick read. It mostly takes place during the Christmas season, so it makes for a great holiday read. However, it has such a wonderful feel-good quality about it that it would hit the mark on any given day of the year.

Jamey Moody delivers some holiday magic with love, empathy, and connections. Eve is a bar manager in NYC who has recently lost her mother. She needs to get to Virginia on Christmas Eve to fulfill her mother’s wishes. Carly meets Eve through friends. When she hears Eve needs to get only miles from where she is going to be spending Christmas with her own family offers to be her ride. The two day road trip allows them to get to know each other better. More surprisingly, Carly’s mother and grandmother knew Eve’s mother and grandparents. Grief and sorrow give way to hope, love and light. (A few too many mentions of being a light, but that is a small quibble.) Eve is more the focus of the story but Carly is wonderful at supporting her and still claiming her own desires. This is a very satisfying short novel (180 pages). And it contains plenty of heat. It makes me believe in soul mates and the epilogues make for a great HEA.
I am a huge fan and supporter of Jamey Moody since book one. One thing I always loved is the different approach we get to witness in her stories. Of course this is a Christmas story, so there is usually not much drama anyway, but still how her characters talk and treat each other is still unique.
Once again my heart was filled with so much love. This is actually something I mention in almost every review for a Jamey Moody book. Aside from that I was touched even more this time. Eve's story with her mum isn't at all like my own with my mum, but because of everything that happens right now in my life it still hit home. I cried a few tears during the trip. No worries it is all good in the end. 🥰
The way Eve and Carly meet is classical on the one hand, but totally magical on the other hand. Most of all they just click and both are what the other needs. I don't wanna reveal too much, it's a special journey you need to discover yourself. And even if Eve's mum is dead, she still plays a very important role and you feel her presence very much.
Now better start to read this book and enjoy. As usual I highly recommend this story.
I received an advance reader copy from the author and voluntarily leaving a review.
Eve and Carly lock eyes across a bar, fall immediately in love, and effortlessly spend the rest of their lives together happily ever after. That's the book. I would consider this a spoiler except that its right on the back of the book. If you are looking for a straightforward and heartwarming love-fest (that makes Hallmark movies look complicated and stressful) then this would be the ideal story for you. I personally DO enjoy that kind of story but this one didn't quite land for me.
There are a lot of good things to say about this short novel. It is sweet and spicy and a definite feel good story. The double epilogues, set one and six years later, actually do a lot to help wrap up the story considering how short of a timeline the main plot is.
The novel was simply too sappy for me, which is the first time I have said that even though I read a lot of romance. If that's what your looking for then this would be perfect for you; I realize I'm not always the exact target audience for every novel that is ever written.
As in every book of Jamey Moody, Love is the key word. Mix this story with a little christmas miracles and joy and you have a lovely christmas-holiday story. Thank you Jamey.
I got an ARC for an honest review.

Carly is a tech specialist at a big company in NYC and Eve is a bartender who just recently lost her mom and has been asked to scatter her ashes in her hometown. The day before she is scheduled to leave, a motorist plows into her car rendering it undrivable. Carly offers to drive her home to Virginia where her own family lives in the next town over from Eve's.
What a journey of discovery this trip becomes for both women. The unconditional love given by Carey's family is so beautiful and the stories they share with Eve are priceless. Out of sadness came so much joy and light. If that's not enough, there's a cute, perfect little dog to complete the picture. And the ending of this book is just priceless!
Jamey Moody's writing is sensitive, funny, endearing and cathartic. I love the title, the cover and I adore this author. Although I don't personally know her, I think she has a beautiful soul! This story is filled with so much love it oozes off the pages! It's just perfect for the holidays or anytime of the year!
This novella is part of a holiday series made especially for December. As such, it is exactly what a holiday story should be - romantic fluff :) Easy to read, minimal conflicts, insta-love story that starts with... you guessed it, with one look! The lonely bartender goes on a road trip with the beautiful girl she met at the bar and all the feelings develop in record time. The cute dog seals the deal and they become an item before long. The divine intervention they suspect is proven to be at work when old photos are discovered.
T&T: Tropes: Love at first sight, one bed, road trip, match made in heaven (literally). Triggers: some grief over lost parent.
Rating: I rated 3.5 stars (rounded up to 4) because it's just too short to bring any depth to the story and/or characters. I don't expect it from a novella but it means the rating could have been higher for a full-length book. It also means that the book is a very light read and I warmly recommend it as holiday reading :)
Disclaimer: I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
With One Look (Tis the Season Holiday Collection) Author: Jamey Moody
It had been five years since Carly had moved to New York City, newly graduated and ready to take on the world. She liked her job and the company she worked for. They liked her skills and had already promoted her several times.
Jamey’s books always touch my heart, and this book is no different. The way the two main characters come together and find a love one could only dream.
Jamey is one of my favorite authors. She’s so kind with an understanding soul.
Both main characters Carly and Eve were very sweet in my opinion. I really adored them both.
I loved that they found their happy ending. It was a beautiful story about love, family and new beginnings .
I would like to thank the author Jamey Moody for the arc. 5 stars!!
Jamey's stories always get you right in the heart and this is no exception! She has created two characters you fall in love with straight away...Eve and Carly (Lottie, as Eve affectionately calls her). Eve needs to get home to Virginia by Christmas Eve to fulfill her mother's wishes, but someone hits her car and it won't be fixed in time. Carly just happens to be going home to Virginia one town away from where Eve needs to go and offers to take her. Find out where the journey takes them and enjoy a heartwarming Christmas story. I highly recommend this book along with all of Jamey's other books. No matter which one you pick, you can't go wrong!
A Jamey Moody book guarantees a sweet, sexy, warm HEA romance. A Christmas story by her guarantees something heartwarming. This story was no different. I have to say I loved it. There is so much depth to the story that it must be read. Two very strong willed women meet and a spark was lit. In an effort for Eve to fulfill a wish from her recently passed Mom, she suddenly finds herself without transportation. Along comes Carly, a sweet and compassionate women who felt something when she was first introduced to the hot bartender. Carly is going to her grandma’s for Christmas and offers Eve a ride since she needs to be there by Christmas and it is very close to her Grandmother’s. Yes, A road trip. As these two get to know each other, the banter is flirty , the conversation flowing, the entertainment exciting and the adventure leading both women to a past they did not know about. All leading to a romance neither saw coming but led by a women who is Eve’s guiding light. What more could you ask from A Christmas Romance. I think this is the best Christmas book I have read this year.
This is an amazing festive series. In this story of Jamey Moody we meet Eve and Carly.
They both end up to go on a special road trip to spread the ashes of Eve's Mom.
Eve only knew that she and her Mom never go back to their home town. Now she goes back to Carly. When I read this book, I could picture in my mind a new Hallmark movie. Loving, enjoying the holiday season with fun, love and family and a twist of a tail in the end.
If you have the time, please also pick up the other books in this series.
By now there is one thing i am 100% sure of, Jamey Moody always delivers. Her approach is unique. Eve manages a bar and thats were she met Carly, though i love calling her Lottie as Eve does. Their attraction was palpable. Their journey begins and we get to witness one of the sweetest love story. I enjoyed this book immensely and i totally recommend it. I received a free copy of this book and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
I concur with a lot of the other 5 star reviews on here. I really liked this. Ya, it is insta-attraction, so if you don't like that maybe this isn't the book for you. Otherwise, it is sweet and though there is some loss in the book, it doesn't bring the story down - the book is actually totally uplifting. There is one moment in the book where one of the characters, gets a little scared - but it is handled with communication. I loved the two epilogues. I could've read more about these two.
A story about how one look and you know she is your everything. Lottie knew the minute she seen Eve at the end of the bar. A trip together to take Eve's mother ashes to the town where she was raised but moved because she was bullied. Eve just wanted to know more about her moms past but didn't know who to ask. The trip turned out that Lotties parents knew her mom and the things that happen. Lotties love helped Eve they lived a happy lfe
A very sweet and uneventful novella. I mean, there's some sadness with Eve stuff, but nothing too sad. So If you want to feel good this is your pick. Just watch out for the sweetness, the ending is a bit more sugary than the beginning, but if you have a sweet tooth this is your jam.
All characters are lovely, and although even the MC recognise things are happening faster than usual, romantically, it actually feels right. They fit.
This was a very sweet Christmas romance. While the MCs never seem to have any challenges or rough patches in their relationship, I suppose the lack of tension attests to the magical quality of their love and connection. I loved the part of the story in Charlottesville, Virginia, and the fictitious town of Holly. Lots of tender moments in the story making it a nice holiday read.
With One Look follows Eve and Charly as they very quickly develop an intense relationship during a snowy drive. This reader can relate to hearing the same song on the radio many times while on a long drive with a soon to be significant other. The story has nice moments but is a little heavy on the sweet and sentimental. Overall, an okay, if unengaging tale.
I really liked this one. You don't realize that when Eve and Carly are truly getting to know each other, it is only over a few days. But I think because of the way that Carly is there for Eve during such a difficult time in her life, the connection is strong between the two. Then add Carly's adoring family and a dog named Fletcher... you got nothing but HEA.
This book is so filled with love! Eve and Carly are so cute together. And Carly's family is so loving! Then there's Fletcher the adorable dog! Such an uplifting story that I thoroughly enjoyed! 5 stars!
This book was very touching. I enjoyed it from start to finish. A fairly emotional story for Christmas, that had me reaching for the tissues many times. Definitely a cozy story overall. Worth a read.
A sweet happy after sadness and grief story, very touching. The heroine's name gave me a lot of " the princess and the frog" feels, i found this to be very cute.
