Fcuked over by her bestie and business partner, Ace finds herself back home in Aspen, Colorado.

Unable to face the disappointment in her parents’ faces, she turns to one of her longtime friends - and crush. When he leaves her high and dry on the green slope, Jesse pulls her out of the snow bank and the funk that’s been plaguing her for years.

With his crooked grin and arresting eyes, it doesn’t take long for her to thaw.

While the attraction is instant, neither are looking for a relationship; Ace, because of her baggage, and Jesse because of his carefree lifestyle.

“I’m a man of contradictions.” Accurate. I got a bit of whiplash from Jesse’s back and forth. One minute he doesn’t want anything but a fling then he wants her to wait for him, to “try.” That was my only issue with the story. It’s otherwise perfection!

The scenes are steamy AF, their banter had me cracking up. Ace is so fcuking quirky that the contrast between her and most other heroines was incredibly refreshing.

3.5 ⭐'s

I "found" this book on an angsty book lovers Instagram and since it's supposed to be angsty and from an author I hadn't read, I was game.

Unfortunately, it's no way near angsty enough for me. However, it was sweet and I love sport romances.

I really enjoyed Ace even through her trauma and Jesse was a bit of a mess with so much back and forth.

My favorite thing was how everything came together especially when it was revealed who they were.

(I received an ARC for this book)

Trigger Warnings include:
grieving, postpartum depression, parent abandonment

After reading X My Heart, it was nice to not be in so much pain reading this new book! But my heart definitely felt this one! It was so easy to feel their pain. To suffer with them. Through their heartbreak. Through their struggles. I’ve always enjoyed the way this author’s characters are facing their own demons, afraid to let others in to face them together. There’s never an easy fix in her books. Her characters struggle and fight, and become better people for it. Better versions of themselves, better for the person they love. And I love getting to experience that! Jesse and Ace’s story fits right into that! For the first time in 10 years, Ace goes home. And when she’s stuck up on a mountain, waiting for her crush to meet her, prince charming whisks in and saves her mid air. No, seriously. I may have squealed just a bit during their meet cute, both of them. If Ace and Jesse were together, chances are I was busy being both flustered and giggling. I decided very quickly that I was obsessed with them. I knew by chapter 5, and there was absolutely no way I could have prepared my heart for whatever devastation it was going to endure. Their conversations were cute, easy, flirty. Their back and forth was perfect. I was always laughing, and those tears were welcomed. Jesse offers to help her find her snowboard legs again. It gives him the chance to get his mind off “stuff” and she can impress her crush. But we all get something MUCH more. Jesse wants everything. All the truths, all the nitty gritty, everything single teeny tiny detail. And that still wouldn’t be enough for him. Ace felt safe with him. And he made sure she always felt that comfortable with him. (Though, it was pretty effortless.) Ace is angry at the world, and tries to take it out on Jesse. Tries to run from it, and him. But that’s not allowed. She is his priority. But between her being unemotionally closed off, and his job…things aren’t as easy as they seem. Especially when they’re faced with something very real and life changing. I knew the second I read the sentence that would make things explode. But it still didn’t help prepare me for the pain. Without fail, finishing a book by this author always feels like a comforting hug.

Ace of Spades: 29

My Favorite Quotes:
• “My heart warmed when you called me an asshole.”
• “I can smell how wet you are, babe. I like that smell, and fuck me, I want to taste it even more.”
• “You told me you like to try new things. Try me, babe.”
• “I want you. Let me have you.”
• “Ask me to stay.”
• “Because I didn’t want him on your mind while it should’ve been me.”
• “Your laugh gets me every time.”
• “These next 30 seconds are for you.”
• “I’m going to keep you.”
• “You’re a high I wanna chase more than any mountain.”
• “I can’t lose you now that I’ve found you.”
• “You shred my heart to pieces and glue it back together.”

4-star review!!!

This one was so cute but still so deep in the right places. I loved Jesse and Ace together, however their running away from each other did frustrate me a lot at times, haha! It wouldn’t be Liz’s book if the characters didn’t have some past trauma though and I loved that because it made the story real. I just wish we had some chapters from Jesse’s POV but otherwise it was emotional and sexy at the same time. Definitely recommend!

SPEECHLESS! I don’t even think I can compose words into sentences to describe how amazing this book is! Hands down my new favorite book! I loved very second down to every word of this book! It’s like a punch to the heart and made me laugh at the same time!

This book is a standalone, second chances, snowboard romance. Its packed with so much angst and anticipation of what going to happen next, I was balancing on the edge of my seat. Its also sweet and funny but also dirty and spicy!

I love the chemistry that Jesse and Ace have together and while they started as “friends” you can feel that push and pull between them. I love their banter and dancing back in forth it makes their characters come to life. Then when they finally come together, I wanted to scream I was so thrilled!

And bam- Bomb dropped! And then bam-another! I never saw it coming!! I absolutely loved the ending on this book! I’d 100% be down for a duet of the twins when they get older! 😉

“I once left my heart on a mountain and now I’m afraid I’m doing it all over again”

I don’t want to give too much a way because L.A’s books always have the best twists and you NEED to go in blind BUT…
As always L.A completely smashed it with her new release, I loved this book from start to finish. The banter between Lemmy and Jesse MADE this and helped balance out all the baggage these two brought to the relationship.
Lemmy, the FMC, is so fucking funny - I loved her and wanna be her friend 😂 and Jesse? PHWOAR, someone get me to the mountains to watch him ride 🤩
These two had quite the journey but the feelings and chemistry always brought them back together with the perfect HEA

I want to go to snowboarding after reading this book. I have missed snowboarding. But back to this book. Ace is back home and she didn't know what to do about it. There were so much history about that place and not everything were good. I liked how she met Jesse and that she had no idea who he was. He was just a snowboard guy to her until she found out. It was good way how she found out. I liked both of these characters but I wish we would have got also Jesse's pov. But still this was such a great book.

Just Shred is a sports romance, telling the story of Ace, a woman damaged by her past, and Jesse, a famous snowboarder who just wants to chase the next high.

Sports romances aren't really my thing, so this wasn't my favourite book of the author's, but I still very much enjoyed it. I will admit though, that Jesse's back and forth behavior definitely caused me some whiplash! (I can only sympathise with how Ace must have felt!)

There may have been some back and forth with a bit of angst thrown in, but it all came together in the end with a very nice HEA.

Looking forward to what the author brings us next!

It was nice and all until 75%, that was when me and this snowboard dude had a problem.

I don’t know what the hell happened in those 8 weeks but my impression of him shattered, or shredded as it was his favorite word to say, the moment he ghosted her then got away with it, and fyi, it happened again and again throughout the rest. And it was so annoying how she gave in to him every single time, girlie he mistreated you at least fight him back and let him grovel a bit tf.

Moreover, their communication skills sucked. How hard was it to just talk, literally talk, to each other seriously for one god damn minute without arguing or distracting, and being distracted, by irrelevant and unimportant matters? Well in this regard, I think they were perfect for each other because they couldn’t take things seriously.

Still, I think this was written nicely, the storyline flowed well and the chemistry between our 2 mains was good, until it reached 75%. It was a bit off and kinda ruined the good and light vibes, and my mood, up to that point so far.

On the other hand, the epilogue was so cute that it soothed me a bit, but I’m still bitter.

“My heart warmed when you called me an asshole.” He smirks and covers his heart with his gloved hand."

“Your eyes always get a shine to them when you see something you like,”

"He runs his thumb over his lower lip again."

“Damn, snowboard guy, when you kiss me like that, I can’t think straight,”

Ahh! I loved this book from start to finish, it was not what I was expecting in the best way. There is so much baggage for these characters to unpack for not only themselves but for each other. The banter between these two from start to finish was perfect. From the moment she called him an asshole to him telling her she talks too much, I was shipping this relationship.

I love how L.A. Wayward's characters always leave a huge mystery or secret for the characters to solve or reveal to each other, because not only is it a mystery for them to reveal to each other but also the reader gets to uncover it at the same time. And every time I'm shocked to discover what the mystery or secret is.

The chemistry and spice between these characters was perfect, these two can run away from each other all they want but they will always find a way back to each other because they can't deny their feelings. These two had quite the journey to go on throughout this story.

If you're looking for a fun, steamy snowboarding romance this is it for you!

Side note: I would love to have Layne and Angie’s story in the future. Seems like there is quite the story behind their relationship.

JUST SHRED 🏂

Honestly, this was so much fun and addictive! Just Shred is a story full of love, friendship and loss, passion for sport and wild places and it’s all about the redeeming power of true feelings.

BLURB
Ace is running away from her life: she’s a mess at dealing with hurtful memories and future plans. Once back in Aspen, she comes across Jesse, a snowboard pro with beautiful eyes and perfect face that does hide a mysterious life. Will they get along or their mutual scars will set them apart?

What I mostly appreciated in this story is Ace and Jesse’s banter. They’re the best at fighting and at building scorching passion at the same time. Also, there are other elements that make an amazing background: secondary characters like friends and family and also mountains, rivers and everything concerning snowboard and snow. It’s basically a sport romance, but a brand new one.

Ace is indecisive, ready to flee because there’s so much hurt in her past; Jesse is cocky and grumpy but has a big heart. They do not know how to let the other in and they mess with their feelings, but their back-and-forth is highly passionate and overpowering! They’re both easy-going and in love. He’s her snowboard guy, she’s his “Ace of Spades” and they are so sweet even when they face big challenges before their HEA!

I’m so happy to observe that story after story Liz is building her own world full of different characters. She’s an author with a powerful imagination, she’s able to craft every background she wants and to manage every topic she takes interest into. Can’t wait for her next story, they really have a special place in my heart. Go for it, girl!

Ace is back in her hometown of Aspen. She’s back on the slopes, snowboarding, something she swore she would never do again because of a tragic accident. She’s scared to go down the slope, and people coast along around her, brushing up snow in her face. Along comes Jesse, who can board circles around her, and sees her struggling and tries to help her get down the hill. Jesse is cute and mysterious and so nice to let her hang onto him on the ride down.

I wasn’t convinced going into this book that I was ready for a snowy setting in September. I wanted fall vibes, and the imagery of leaves falling and chilly sweater weather. I will say that once the book got going, I was in the snowy atmosphere with ease. I was snowboarding with Ace and Jesse and being surrounded by snowy mountains as I looked around. I was in the moment with these two. And both had back stories that made me totally feel for them and understand where their actions were coming from.

If you’ve read a L.A. Wayward story before, you know she writes her female leads to be feisty and not damsels in distress – and I like that. Ace held her own in this book, despite the hiccup of going down the slope when we first meet her. Jesse wasn’t the stereotypical knight in shining armor. He was flawed and adorable and was not sure how to take Ace, often keeping her at arm’s length.

The snowy setting, the chemistry between Jesse and Ace, and the storyline kept me engrossed and pretty soon I was at 80% into the book in a day – I could not put it down. L.A. Wayward’s writing just keeps on getting better and better!

Once upon a time the mountain gave me all I ever wanted and then in a instance it took it all away. I’ve been running for so long I’m unsure if I know how to stay anymore, it should have been me that day. I know snowboarder boys, I grew up with them and this one is trouble… but he’s brought my smile back and I can’t help but wonder what it would be like to Just Shred and relax?

I tend not to be a sports romance reader but as per usual L.A can hook me with just about any of her books. This when caught me off guard with how much I loved it, all the small town feels with a very feisty smart mouthed FMC.

Ace has finally came home to a town she’s ran away from 10 years ago with her life in shambles and not a clue in the world what she wants. Meeting Jesse is the last thing on her mind or even something she expected but in her own words “ that a$$hole” literally knocks her on her butt.

These two have quite the banter and Jesse is the definition of cheesy at times but in a way that makes you fall even more in love with him. The secrets these two keeps from each other never failed to surprise me and painfully at times blew up in their faces. This is a story of two people growing, maturing and realizing what’s really important in life, that sometimes running isn’t the answer anymore.

You will want to smack both of them a time or two and will laugh your butt off quite a lot! L.A got me really good with this story couldn’t put it down till I finished it.

ARC Review of Just Shred by L.A Wayward
* * * * *
A sizzling romance that will melt the snow and steam up the cabins! An older woman/younger man romance with family tragedy and taking second chances.

Ace ran away from this place a long time ago. She wanted to forget the pain and loss. Now she is back after trouble in her life and to celebrate with her friends.
She did not plan to - literally - crash into a hottie on a board.
Jesse wanted this sharp tongued beauty the second he saw her. She's not as open to getting frisky has he is but he will wear her down.
Secrets and pains from the past start to come out.
And the snow wear starts to come off!

Poor Ace, she really just has a terrible start in the beginning. The pain of losing someone, the distancing from those you love because of guilt, betrayal from whom you trust and getting booted out of your home.
Thank the lord and this writer for hotness on a board.
I like that there was a swap in age difference too.
When the 'surprise' hits, I loved how Ace was like 'Yep...let's get this out of the way' and how awkward it was finding out! Oh cruelty is the sickly sweetness fate delivers.

Having read Ms.Wayward's work many times before i always look so forward to picking up more of her books! As soon as i stumbled across a teaser for Just Shred i couldn't wait to have this book in my life! I picked it up as soon as i could and got into it quickly. I enjoyed this story so much!

Ace and Jesse's journey pulled me in right from the get go! These two are brought into each other's lives in quite the memorable fashion. I couldn't wait to see how everything would play out for them!

I haven't read many snowboarding books so this was such an awesome reading experience for me! I didn't know everything to expect and that got me into it even more so. There was a realness to both Ace and Jesse that i adored. From the way they're brought together to their chemistry and everything in between, i thoroughly enjoyed Ace and Jesse's journey! These two had me feeling so many things!

I really liked how i could picture it all as well!

With Just Shred, Ms.Wayward has created such a good read that will capture attention and won't let go! If you haven't read this author's work yet, you so should! 💙

What can I say? I love the authors books! Her stories are all fast paced, spicey and go straight to your heart. Ace is a strong main character with a lot of bagagge and sometimes I was a little frustrated of her behaviour. However, she finds the perfect counterpart with Jesse. I really enjoyed the setting in Aspen on a snowy mountain, even though it was hot as hell outside while I was reading the book. This was probably also the reason why I had trouble to really dive into the story in the beginning. A little something, I have noticed reading the authors books: The development of the authors writing style. She has always had a huge talent to paint pictures in your head with her words. But within the last couple of novels, it has become even better in my opinion. If you look for spicey chapters in a romance book, I can assure you that „Just Shred“ has just the right amount for a love story. I somehow missed the kinky bits from „Thirst“ and „Ranger Danger“ though.  Overall, I can recommend this book to all of you who like a good spicey sport novel

“Just Shred” by L.A. Wayward tells the story of Ace and Jesse. For the first time in 10 years, Ace returns home after losing a part of her heart on the mountain long ago. When Ace and Jesse bump into each other on the slopes, Ace wants nothing to do with him. He’s a bad-boy snowboarder, but the more time they spend together, the most Ace realizes that he could be the one to help her overcome her past and move on to a better future.

This book was so heartbreaking and beautiful. Ace and Jesse are just so cute! I love the plot and the twist at the end was really well-written. I wish Jesse was real, he is such a sweetheart! I FEEL for Ace! I really loved her vulnerable moments and reading about her growth throughout the book was amazing. This book felt so real and raw and I couldn’t recommend it enough. If you’re one to read warnings beforehand, make sure to do so before diving in!

repetitive (possibly spoilers)

I think had this had another proof reading it could’ve been better. There is a lot of repetitive situations so some of the impactful moments lose steam cause we see them multiple times. The relationship between Ace and Jesse is like a highschool drama filled romance. He can’t commit but she also is terrible communicator. She also lets him come back into her life after weeks of ghosting her after saying he will keep in touch . Then they make up have a half hearted apology and then he leaves again and does the same thing AGAIN. It’s an ok read it’s just very frustrating to know that it could’ve been a good 4 ⭐️ with some major editing. If you don’t mind these issues then go ahead, happy reading. Side note: it also doesn’t make sense in the beginning that she doesn’t at all know how to snowboard and completely at a loss when Jess in talking in snowboard slang when her family are supposedly Snowboarding royalty. She’s literally spent her whole life around it, no way she wouldn’t know lingo)

With Just Shred, L.A. Wayward shows how versatile she is as an author. She can write everything from dark, kinky romance to a lighter sports romance with a reverse age gap.
The MCs are lovable, deep characters with loads of baggage. They felt real because they had things going on that they didn't realize, and the reader uncovers it while they do. Jesse and Ace don't easily get their HEA and really have to fight for it.
The only thing that annoyed me a little was the constant running away, but I liked that they quickly found their way back, too, because they just needed each other.

Just Shred is a fun and light-hearted story, but it still has all the feels and a little angst. It's a story full of love, friendship, loss, passion, steam, and sports.

I received an ARC from the author but am voluntarily leaving my honest review.

Just Shred is a small town, sports romance.
Ace returns to her hometown, after a betrayal from her business partner, only to be let down by her crush on a ski hill. But on that ski hill she meets Jesse.
Jesse is not looking for anything serious, only a fling. Ace figures he’s a snowboarding playboy with crowds of girls after him. But there’s more to it.
Both Ace and Jesse have pasts that affect their relationship. They fight their connection, with sometimes the back and forth between wanting to be casual and serious frustrating me.
Just Shred is an emotional journey of ups and downs on their way to an HEA. The characters, in struggling with their own pasts and their feelings for each other, are real and relatable. The banter between Jesse and Ace is perfect and make this great story even better. And the spicy scenes are hot!
This is a great romance read!

Whenever things get tough Ace runs. That's why she hasn't been home in so long. She's back and learning how to snowboard again, when she gets his with snow from another snowboarder. This man makes a deal with her that he'll help her learn to snowboard again if she takes his mind off of other things. They are hiding so much from each other. Can they both forgive the other?

The amount of swearing Ace does is impressive. I love a girl who isn't afraid to say what's on her mind. How they meet is not what I expected. How she found out he was a professional snowboarder was not cool but how he found out what her last name was wasn't okay either. The X Games was quite the event. They both run when things get tough. The ending of as cute. I wanted a little more before the epilogue but I liked it.

(ARC REVIEW)

Ms. Wayward this was a perfect story with just the right amount of spice. You think going in that its all about a sport romance but its not its so much more. This is two people finding balance and love. I felt Ace's struggles and her emotions. Ace bottled it like any other typical person and when she let it out I released tears. That girl had me a wreck. It seemed like Jesse showed up when she needed him. Their banter was so entertaining and that was what kept me invested. These two differently kept this story interesting and I'm glad I read it. That last chapter though Jesse blew me away with his confession and I loved it.

“I can’t lose you now that I've found you.”

I could not put this book down!! Ace comes back to Aspen after being away for many years, after losing her brother she couldn’t get back onto the slopes. Ace was supposed to meet with some friends but they had canceled on her. That's where she runs into Jesse (literally). From there Jesse helps Ace with snowboarding and conquering her fear of the slopes.

I seriously love the relationship between these two, yes they have their issues, as do most couples but in the end there is a HEA and of course the spice in this is amazing! If you are looking for a nice and spicy sports romance I suggest you read this one!!!

I could not finish this. Setting aside some minor issues, the constant back and forth, the obliviousness, the communication issues, it was just too much. I think the story had potential, but for those who struggle with grief, I wouldn't recommend this book. Not only that but I oftentimes saw myself questioning the age of the characters, I'm not sure as to whom the intended audience of this book was however, I would recommend it to High schoolers and those attending university. As stated I saw the vision, so maybe one day when I have the patience and I'm in the right frame of mind I will finish this book.

I always love a good sports romance, and this book certainly didn't disappoint. Snowboarding is one of my favorite sports to watch, and I hadn't read a sports romance until this one that had it as the main sport. Not to mention fictional bad boys are always a character type I love to read about when they are done well.

I really loved this story, and the characters that L.A. Wayward created. Not only is this story a romance, but it is a story of healing and finding yourself again. Thank you, L.A. Wayward for an arc of this book.

Oh Liz, you’ve done it again. There's something that's in your words that gives me all the feels. You make me so emotional. I end up feeling far too much for the characters you write. And Shane 🤯. I was not expecting that!
Ace and Jesse are everything. The banter, the bickering, the care and finally the love.
What a ride these two went on. I loved it! Can't wait to see what you're upto and what is next! I adore you and your books.
