Otto Schneider isn’t the kind of guy who bothers to seek permission.
The demons have withdrawn from the mortal realm, the attacks have ceased, but while humanity dares to hope they may have gone for good, the irascible German wizard knows better.
In the face of overwhelming odds, he’s going to do the dumbest thing possible… attack.
In the wake of the destruction in Croatia, Otto is taking the fight to the demons and he’s not going alone.
It’s a stupid strategy, but that doesn’t mean it won’t work.
But there’s a player missing from the board. Where is Anastasia?
Now residing with the angels, the human demigod is forced to explore her new status. Whose side is she on? What part will she now play in the battle to come? And why is Godfrey still so confident of victory.
While elsewhere Otto and friends fight for the future of humanity, Anastasia learns a shocking secret that may change everything.
Let's start this off with an invitation to get some FREE books. No, you didn't read that wrong, we are talking about multiple free books. I love giving away free books because once people delve into the fast-paced mystery thrills I write, they go on to buy lots more.
When I wrote my first novel, Paranormal Nonsense, I was a Captain in the British Army. I would love to pretend that I had one of those careers that has to be redacted and in general denied by the government and that I have had to change my name and continually move about because I am still on the watch list in several countries. In truth though, I started out as a mechanic. Not like Jason Statham, sneaking about as a contract killer, more like one of those greasy gits that charge you a fortune and keep your car for a week when all you went in for was a squeaky door hinge.
At school, I was mostly disinterested in every subject except creative writing, for which, at age ten, I won my first award. However, calling it my first award suggests that there have been more, which there have not. Accolades may come but, in the meantime, I am having a ball writing mystery stories and crime thrillers and will claim to have more than a hundred books forming an unruly queue in my head as they clamor to get out.
Now retired from the military, I live in the south-east corner of England with a pair of lazy sausage dogs. Surrounded by rolling hills, brooding castles, and vineyards, I doubt I will ever leave, the beer is just too good.
I am a little disappointed in the fact that Otto has not made any real improvements in his skills. Nonetheless, it was a good read, and the time for the finale is nigh since the curse has fallen!

Demon Horde Gambit typos The entire world is on a precipice. With the Demons , Angels and the humans fighting for power. Demons want to rule all Realms on earth , Angels are wanting to rule but are not anti-human . The humans? They fight for a right to live on the place they call home , but on their terms . And there’s many who are supernatural humans due to centuries of inter racial practices in the immortal Realm with human familiars and those who Otto Schneider rescued to return to a world they no longer know , some of those who maybe have lived in the immortal realm for a century or more , others are ancestors from when they lived together in the same realm on earth. There’s much training to do in readiness for the ultimate war to come , when the Death Curse does what it’s going to do…..With that in mind they need to try and get rid of a few Demon allies….. Thrilling , can’t put down thriller of a read. Good descriptions make for an awesome immersive experience. The writing is sublime , flowing well and the structure of the whole series is mind blowing, this is the penultimate book in series and I for one cannot wait to read it ,but in the same vain , I don’t want this awesome series to end . Thank-you to the prolific author for these brilliant , exciting stories.
I was looking forward to reading the book because I really love the series. Did not like this book. Generally I fly through the pages and this time, I struggled getting through them. I felt as though the popping in and out of different planes was tedious and although the characters were strong, it just did not flow like the others did. It felt like the author was in a hurry to finish it. Many parts felt overdone -- like we've seen this before or something like that. I also thought this was the last book in the series and found out there's one more final book. Hopefully, he'll pull it together in the next and final book. I have loved this series up until now. Hopefully, he won't wait as long to wrap it up.
In Demon Horde Gambit by Steve Higgs, it is all starting to come together as everyone counts down to the end of the death curse. Ayla and Otto are training their troops, but Otto has his own ideas of where to strike first in the ongoing battle with the demons. But are the angels any better, at least from a human point of view? And a human bad guy named Colt Ironbolt!? Hehehe! Just what is Anastasia up to? She is hanging with the angels, but is she with them? And what is Godfrey up to? This book, book 10 in The Realm of the False Gods, is nonstop action from beginning to end. Everyone is making plans and moving into place for big finish. This is a must read!
The Realm of False Gods series is an amazing series with tons of surprises! This series just gets deeper with each book into s new concept of how magic is used, yet based on the elements, as so much magic theory is. New races and a new realm, all very unique. Great dialogue, and relatable characters, hey who can't relate to a 2 and half meter tall werewolf, right?!?!? (that's 8 1/4 feet to us Americans...). And now we get government response to supernaturals, which is a very believable response. including stupidity and routing for the idiots' downfall! Highly recommend this series!!
This series of books has had me captivated as never before have I read 10 books in a series, normally getting bored after book 3 or 4. Others have already written what the books are about and I can’t add anything to what has already been said. The writer,Steve Higgs, has a way of keeping the reader interested and wanting more. The story line runs at a steady pace without getting boring. Really enjoyed it.
I just wish authors would stop repeating the same information over and over again just to make more books. I'm the kind of reader that like to read a whole series, one after the other but the repetitiveness within this series is way too much!! I've got this far so I won't give up but that's only because I need to end things I start. Just wanted to air my frustration as this isn't the only author that does this.... however he is one of the worst I've come across for a while.
I loved reading this story, demons and angels fighting for dominance of earth and all living things, and some humans going against it! It's a story of much imagination, action, that makes the reader think about inumerous "what-ifs"! I'm looking forward to reading the next book, and probably, final one in the series. I thank Mr. Higgs and his publisher for this ARC.
Nice to read number 9 out of 10, looking forward to the last volume, have to say it's not hard to see what might happen next, however that's part of the fun to see if what you think might happen come true,. Really looking forward to the last volume!
Steve is bringing the whole storey together, the demons, the angels and the humans with gifts. What an incredible storey. I love Anastasia, Otto, Zackary, well, all of them. The death curse has fallen. Its time to read the next book, whose going to win, I think I know. Fun to see how they do it. Lindab
Angels and Demons, a Two sided Coin! Well worth the wait!!! Spanning Realms and Countries, the fight for human independence heats up with blazing action !!! Loved it!!! Steve Higgs is a master author and he has sparkled brighter than ever in this ambitious tale, don't wait, grab it now!!!
Can't wait to see how it ends! This series is hands down my favourite of all the series from this author, but I've loved them all thus far. All of the characters are well fleshed out and the story moves at a fast pace. Loads of twists and turns.
Oh! My! I can't believe that I'm know on the last book of this series. It has been really enjoyable to read. I wish there was more books in this series. But maybe he'll do more story lines like this. I love how each book told different stories about the characters and then brings together characters he needs to close out the series.
This the 10th book in this series was short, but packed with action. From the failure of the Death Curse to battle after battle. It was hard to put it down at times.
