Once again Author Alison Golden has written a delightful mystery. The mystery has plenty of red herrings to keep you guessing. At one point it seemed that all the suspects had an alibi or no motive to have comment the attack on the victim. The characters are realistic and well developed with complex personalities. I recommend this to fans of British detective mystery.

A group of artists are gathered to paint pictures of a home on a cliff. They are not to actually paint the home, but their impressions of the scene. Unfortunately, the artists and the person directing them are not a popular topic of The Gorey Gossip journalist, Freddie Solomon. Freddie is a firm believer that negative news sells papers while good news does not. A week after reporting about the artistic renderings, he reports about a person, Jamie Reeves, being attacked outside the local pub. It turns out that Jamie had done some of the landscaping work at the home mentioned in the previous article. In addition, Freddie seems to take great pleasure in giving the Gorey Constabulary a bad time. Inspector Graham and his team definitely have their work cut out for them. Two of the people visiting Jamie at the hospital are his former girlfriend and her current boyfriend.

Unfortunately, the search team has been unable to turn up a weapon, so the suspect list remains quite iffy. To make matters worse, some of the people on the suspect list offer contradictory statements as to where they were at the time of the attack. The pressure to solve the attack increases drastically when Jamie dies.

Who attacked Jamie? Why was he attacked? Jealousy? Revenge? Mistaken target? Can Inspector Graham and his team solve the mystery or will there be more deaths?

Alison Golden has another fantastic story with plenty of twists, turns, and red herrings to keep the reader guessing. The characters are absolutely wonderful and the situations are very realistic. I have enjoyed every single Inspector Graham mystery and look forward to reading many more in the future.

The bad news is that this is the last one of this series. The good news is that, at the end, the author does say she's still writing ... so I'll definitely look forward to that.

In tone, it's definitely a cozy, despite the main investigators being actual police. They do get some help from civilians a bit, however. We open with a group of artists on a weekend 'retreat' all painting multiple versions of the same view -- a cliff across the bay with a house at the top. Is one of them going to end up dead? Ya gotta wonder, right?

But no: the attack is on a local landscaper just outside a popular pub and, at first, there doesn't seem to be any connection to the artists. Until we find out that the landscaper was the foreman on a major project at the very house featured in the landscape done by the art class. It's a newish home built by a super rich guy and his spoiled and pampered wife. But the business address is a small cottage in town which is also the residence of his personal secretary.

Then there's the landscaping company: did he have words with the boss? And does the receptionist at that company have feelings for the young man? Everyone who might have motive, seems to have a rock solid alibi. Oh, and, they've yet to find an actual weapon.

Meanwhile, the private lives of the Gorey constabulary progress -- the Inspector and the librarian are happily mostly cohabitating. The sergeant and computer tech are due to be married. One constable is happy fostering a police dog in training. And the other has just returned from an exchange program with Scotland Yard.

As usual, if you read carefully you can pick up all the clues.

The Case of the Uncommon Witness - a review by Rosemary Kenny.

Inspector David Graham has his hands full in Alison Golden's latest sure-to-be-bestseller, The Case of the Uncommon Witness.

A local landscape gardener, James Reeves, is viciously attacked and falls half-dead at the Inspector's feet in the local pub. Whodunit?
Reeves' employer, Sanderson, for putting his company's reputation at risk with poor workmanship, the jealous husband, convinced his wife's been straying, or someone else, so far completely unsuspected, who may strike again if not stopped?
Is life imitating art, or vice versa - buy it today to find out for sure!

This author is always entertaining and imaginative and this book even more so. I had no clue who the killer was or how the team was going to solve the case, a real stroke of brilliance. This is book nine in the series and the Jersey setting feels so comfortable for theses characters, every time I sit down to listen to one it's like capturing up with old friends or spending time with an eccentric but favourite uncle. The books can be read in any order but it definitely adds to the enjoyment if read in order. The author packs a lot into her story's with village life, character drama and of course the case and you are never sure where you will end up, other than with a killer behind bars and hours of fun. I really like this small town procedural series with it it's twisty plots and cast of quirky but delightful characters. I can't wait for the next instalment.
A local landscaper is stabbed and Inspector David Graham and his team are called in to solve another puzzling murder. The young man was well like by everybody and they struggle to find a motive for the attack. His job seems to offer the best clues, was it his boss? Or a rich client that wasn't happy. Inspector Graham and his team will need to follow some unusual clues to get to the bottom of this case especially when one of there own finds themselves in danger.
I like the narrator. He certainly knows how to keep the listeners attention and combined with a great story it is un-put -down-able.

Nailed it again!

Once again, author Alison Golden stumped me!I ended up being no where near the perp's identity! Nope, no hints for you! I love that I have been completely surprised in 8 out of 9 books. I look forward to each and every mystery. The characters are my friends now, slowly becoming family as they reveal more of themselves, their lives and their own growth.

I tried so hard to make this book last. 1 chapter and then break, I told myself. Well...I have a while before the next one comes out, so I'll practice! The only thing that I dislike is that the books are so very well thought out and planned, that I just read till I can't,

There are only 4 cozy mystery authors I would recommend to others, without hesitation, Alison Golden and her DI Graham series is always at the top of the list. Be sure to read this series!

DI Graham and the Gorey constabulary have a tough case to handle this time! With so many twists and turns, we are led through secrets of the town's elite. But what does that have to do with the poor man that was attacked? I loved how the investigation kept hitting a dead end but that never stopped the department from forging forward with the advice from DI Graham to look outside the box. In this book, the author adds Carmen to the team. While reading and trying to solve the mystery, I was blindsided by the surprise ending! I never guessed who the perp could be! I will not give any spoilers here! I love this series and once I begin, I can never put it down and have to read in one sitting. I thoroughly enjoy this series and it is highly recommended. Keep them coming Alison! I received and ARC of this book but the opinions here are strictly my own.

Once again Inspector David Graham and the Gorey Constabulary are called on to do the impossible. They need to find who murdered a local lad without leaving any clues. Inspector Graham is a skilled and unconventional detective. His mind is razor shark as he focuses on putting together the pieces. I was amazed at how he's developed his social skills. He's starting over and has found a second chance with Laura. I enjoyed The Case of the Uncommon Witness. All the characters are well written. I like them and I'm glad to learn more about them. The story was suspenseful and had some unexpected surprises. I had no idea who committed the crime and why until the very end. I'm enjoying this series. I can't wait for the next book. I'm anxious to come back to Gorey.

In The Case of the Uncommon Witness Inspector Graham and his officers have to solve the murder of a man who on the surface has no enemies and therefore no reason for anyone to have murdered him. To make matters worse he died after stumbling into a bar so the location of the crime scene is not known. Graham and crew have their work cut out for them to locate the crime scene, find the murderer, and the motive.

I have been reading the DI Graham cases since the beginning. They are always good stories. The characters have continued to grow, we continue to know them better and therefore the reader feels closer to them. Each case is interesting in its own way, this time it is the reveal of the Uncommon Witness.

I received an ARC of this book. My opinion is given voluntarily.

Audiobook: I enjoyed book nine of the "Inspector David Graham" series as much as the previous eight books. Once the audiobook started, I was glued to the mystery, and I had to listen until the end. Inspector David Graham's search for the truth had him questioning many suspects including members of the town's upper crust. This mystery was very much like a puzzle as I tried to put the clues together to solve it myself, before the big reveal at the end. The main characters were entertaining and in each subsequent book, I enjoyed their changes. I'm looking forward to the next book in the series. Matt Jamie's narration was skillful, and his performance enhanced the story's entertainment. I was given a free copy of the audiobook, and I have voluntarily posted this review.

More twists and turns, within a logical community framework. I had an inkling of the outcome, but I’m more captured by the narrative thread to try to work it out. I just want to keep reading. I appreciate the various romances of the team are kept to the background and resulting partnerships then integrated smoothly into the community narrative. The books do get longer as the series progresses. Somehow my reading speed seems to accelerate to compensate. I also appreciate the smooth integration of emerging technologies into the narrative. This cleverly shines light on the distillation of learned human skills and habits to maximise the benefits and potential of those technologies. It’s easy to create tensions between ‘the old ways’ and emerging technology. Harder, but far more valuable, to show how the best is achieved.

A solid mystery that had a lot of twists and turns. The characters are realistic and I love the setting of Gorey. I liked the additional characters that were involved in this book, especially Barnwell's brother, Steve. DI Graham and his team lead us through the ins and outs of the story and there were a lot of leads to follow that didn't seem to be adding up to finding the guilty party. I was surprised by who the culprit was. I can't wait to see what happens next.

I received a complimentary copy of this ebook from the author. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

Alison Golden is one of my very favourite authors, and the Inspector Graham is in my opinion one of her best series - and this latest addition merely confirms that statement. I love the way she brings the characters to life, making them friends you want to catch up with anew each time, and the twist and turns of the story are fantastic. Can't wait for the next one! I read an ARC copy of this book and this is my voluntary and honest review.

I love Alison Golden's characters! Inspector Graham is one of my favourites. One other reviewer compared this series to Midsomer Murders.   I had never thought of that but yes it is true.  The main characters really grow on you and become like friends.

This who done it kept me guessing until the end.  There are lots of twists and turns that make it really hard to put this book down.   I can't wait for the Jersey constables constabulary's next adventure,

Pay attention to the first scene! It will become important. Ms Golden has once again written a puzzle for us to decipher. All the pieces are necessary to complete the picture. I was sure I knew the answer twice but I was wrong both times. Enjoy this delightful tale and all the other Inspector Graham books. The characters have become acquaintances I enjoy time after time. One leaves this time. Who will show up to fill the gap?

I have enjoyed all the books in this series. I love that the characters show growth and development personally and as a team. Inspector Graham is starting to be part of the team as well as it's leader. The case was interesting and Inspector Graham uses his expert skills to solve the crime in an unusual way. I would recommend this book to mystery lovers. While it could be read stand alone I think it is more enjoyable if you have read the series in order.

Another page turner!

What a treat to visit the Jersey Constability again! The twists and turns were brutal, tears were threatening and breathing was difficult in more than a few moments but the solution was impeccable if not beyond my abilities. LOL it was perfect! Maybe the next story will feature a wedding or two?!

Just when they think they have one case solved there is another murder! This one had Janice and Inspector Graham getting injured. It took a while for the story to reply take off but then it was exciting, nonstop drama, & action. I really enjoyed this book! It wasn’t my favorite but it was good. I recommend this book and this series!

Exciting Mystery

I love this series, the characters are so personable that you just want to have tea and conversations with them, but this one is for sure one of my favorites. The mystery had quite a few twists and surprises. The ending was definitely not what I would ever have guessed. This book is worth more than five stars.

Inspector David Graham does not disappoint

This is the latest of DI Graham’s adventures in Gorey. Watching DI Graham’s team grow as an exemplary constabulary on the island Jersey is a joy. This is another murder investigation with enough red herrings and twists and turns to engage any Midsommer Murder fan.

Another engaging mystery by Alison Golden. DI Graham and his team have more than one mystery to solve in this one. With no verifiable suspects, few clues and plenty of twists, this book was hard to put down. DI Graham, Janice, Barnwell and Roach are all well-developed now; and I look forward to spending time with them when each new book publishes.

What an intriguing story. Whenever Inspector Graham is involved, you know the mystery will be solved. Painting a picture of a certain home seems to attract danger. Will the truth be found out. Love Inspector Graham books.
