Get ready for a scandalous Regency romp. Meet the Sinning Flynns!
Rory Flynn, grandson of the Duke of Savernake, is embittered by his family’s reputation as a wealthy family from Irish stock. They are hated by the Ton but accepted because of their links to the duke. Rory has a list of those who have offended his family the most and he intends to do something about it.
Enter the night of nights, the annual event Polite Society anticipates—the dazzling Stag Ball given by the duke himself. The worst offender against Rory’s family is none other than the man his mother jilted those years ago, the Earl of Exford. He’s never forgiven Lady Flynn for breaking their engagement even though he managed to marry well. Knowing the earl and his daughter will be at the Stag Ball, Rory is determined to compromise the daughter to punish the earl for his sins against his mother. But what he didn’t count on was a chance encounter with a sweet, beautiful woman who pulls him off his quest.
As he goes in pursuit of Lady Edith “Edie” Rissington, Rory finds himself entrenched in a world where her secrets are darker than his own and egregious sins are something that can never be forgiven. Will Edie forgive him his family’s past – or can Rory forgive her for withholding hers?
It’s a night of scandals and secrets at the Stag Ball!

Having read practically all KLV full length medieval novels, it's a bit difficult to get into her Regency world. You recognise her terse style, the characters move in a world which is familiar, but the book was far too short and so the characters all too predictable. The story itself is equally bland. However, it was very interesting to see names from her medieval world reappearing, de Wolfe, de Winter, de Lohr even the infamous pub the Pox which features so often in the Executioner Knights survives to the 19th century. I want to believe that it is Kathryn's way of winking at her faithful readers and not that she has run out of ideas for pub names! So, I would suggest that if she wants to continue with adventures in the Regency period, she should imagine more complex storylines which would keep us to the edge of our seats, just as she has done in her most recent series The Blackchurch Guild.
I thought that this book was wonderful. It was well written and kept you interested and reading. I have not found any of her books that I did not like. I enjoy every one.
This book had likable characters and a great story line. This book could have been a great novel that I am accustomed to from KLV. I was mislead by the way the pages were numbered thinking it was a novel and not a short.
I have enjoyed this book. My husband’s mother was a Flynn and even in the early years of his life there were feuds here in TN I have Irish in me but not mush. Rory turned his life around.
I am addicted to Kathryn Le Veque’s various medieval series’, but against those this is barely average. The strength and depth of those novels is missing here. That said, this was readable and so recommend it.
