Who is afraid of the Beast Beyond the Hills? It’s just a legend, right?
Time has passed, but the beast still rules his domain. Locals have grown complicit, peace made between the wilds and the unwanted. What’s a few travelers lost to preserve a national treasure? People disappear in the mountains all the time.
But not all disappear because of the beast. With murder up and down the trail, two monsters roam free giving a Bigfoot hunting reality-tv show more proof than they ever wanted that the beast is real and hunting it was just a Fool’s Game.
This second entry in the series will leave you amused with dark humor, rich characters, and eager to know the fate of those who fall victim to the Beast Beyond the Hills. A must-read centerpiece in an epic horror tale that will leave you hungry for more.
I grew up with a fascination for music, the arts, and writing. I joined the Army. I spent years as a studio musician, writer, and producer. The industry changed. I shifted my focus to writing. I watched as a fan the trend of repeat horror, and nothing unique is being offered. My writing is unique horror, far beyond the monster coming out of the dark and going back into the darkness for a sequel or another installment. My writing has varying degrees of gritty, erotic, horror and full of triggers. The idea is to provoke emotion and take the reader on a rollercoaster ride. The horror is only the surface. Beneath it are interpretive meanings and characters that sometimes reflect life and the horrors of reality.
OK, this series has potential but it isn't quite there yet, in my opinion.
The thing is, I hate when books go back and forth in time. This one does it with no warning so it takes a paragraph or two to realize you are no longer in the present. I'm not a big fan of past/present books. I hate flashbacks and especially hate them when there is no purpose to them. If you told me how a couple met - you don't need to, several chapters later, stick in a chapter on them meeting. I don't care enough about them to need the details. Obviously they met or they wouldn't be in the story and a glossy "met at a Bigfoot festival" is enough information. Telling me the details doesn't enrich the story at all.
Based on that, I don't think I am going to continue with the series. It isn't bad - there are a lot of good things in there. If I ignore the last chapter, I can enjoy the nice wrap up in the previous one. The last one was only put in there to lead to another story.
In The Fool's Game: A Bigfoot Horror Novel, B.E. Miller crafts a chilling tale set in the Appalachian Trail and Pine Ridge Mountains of Eastern Kentucky. With dark humor and gripping suspense, the book explores the myth of Bigfoot, weaving it into a sinister reality where not only does the beast haunt the hills, but there are darker forces at play.
Locals have learned to live with the unsettling presence of the beast, but the arrival of a Bigfoot hunting reality-TV show unearths more than just entertainment. As two monsters—one of legend, one of human nature—hunt their prey, the characters must grapple with the true horror of what lurks in the wilds. With rich characters and a story full of eerie tension, Miller's novel is a page-turning blend of horror, dark humor, and the supernatural, leaving readers eager for the next chapter in this thrilling series.
I have continued reading book #2 and still feel disappointed. I known life is harsh and that is why I read. I like horror books but I also like to think there are good people who overcome adversity.
