Falling for Your Best Friend's Twin

Rate this book
There are a million and one reasons why I shouldn’t fall for my BFF’s twin... Too bad love isn’t reasonable.

For years, I've successfully hidden my crush on Zane--my best friend's ultra grumpy, ultra hot twin brother.

But now that he's hired me to fix a tech glitch for his startup, I'm having trouble keeping the feels under wraps.

I SHOULD just keep my head down and do my job like a good employee.

I should NOT go on the investor's weekend that will keep me up close and personal with Zane.

Like ... couple's massage kind of personal.

I've got a lot on the line: my friendship, my job, and my stupid little heart that just won't stop beating for him.

But I've never met a risk I didn't like to face head on. Here goes nothing! (Or, maybe, here goes everything...)

Falling for Your Best Friend’s Twin is a laugh-out-loud, closed door romcom.

This was a DNF at 87% for me, which is disappointing because it started off as such a cute story with great potential. Unfortunately, things went down hill fast, starting around the 50% mark.

**SPOILERS**

My biggest problem with this story is the female lead, Abby. Again she started off as really fun and likable but by the end I wanted to see her hit by a car. The first red flag came at the resort when she’s a total jerk to Charla, despite Charla being nothing but warm and friendly to her. Which is weird because she’s all about supporting women, and not judging books by their covers and then Charla shows up in a promiscuous outfit and it’s like she’s the whore of Babylon.

Abby is the kind of person who expects the entire world to accommodate her for her personal traumas and insecurities. She doesn’t like to be told how to dress or how to do her hair or makeup so Zane can’t make the completely reasonable request for her to dress more demurely for an important business dinner. And all because of some ancient High School prank that he didn’t even know about. That whole situation and how she reacted to it was entirely too dramatic for me. ALSO it doesn’t really make sense at all how her trauma has anything to do with Zane’s request. Abby’s whole thing with this relates back to an incident in high school where some mean girls tricked her into letting them give her a ‘makeover’ in order inflict her with chemical burns for some reason (btw, those girls definitely went to jail or something right? There’s no way they didn’t.) But Zane just asked her to tone it down a bit for the investors. How is that in any way the same thing? It doesn’t make any sense, and it’s incredibly sloppy in terms of characterization.

And finally, in the end. When Zane is presented with hard evidence that Abby (a girl that he’s been seeing for maybe five minutes) is sabotaging his company by two of his colleagues that he has no reason to doubt. He doesn’t immediately jump to her defense and suddenly he’s the bad guy?!?!? Seriously??? He didn’t even do anything and she has the GALL to be like you didn’t trust me Zane I can’t do this goodbye. GOOD GRIEF.

I don’t have anything particular to say about Zane, mostly because I didn’t find him very interesting. That being said, he is an adult and clearly understands how to conduct himself in business and mature relationships. He’s a grown up and Abby for the most part still seems like an adolescent with the emotional intelligence of an avocado.

Maybe at some point I’ll go back and read the last couple of chapters, but right now I just can’t bring myself to do it. My guess is that Zane will follow her back to her hometown (yeah, the psycho legit left town over a tiny misunderstanding. She is doing WAY too much) and beg for forgiveness for not immediately shooting both of his colleagues in the face the moment they suggested she might be sketchy, and also for not possessing the necessary clairvoyance to know that his innocent request for her to dress appropriately for a business dinner would send her into a downward spiral, due to a completely unrelated personal trauma from her youth. He will give her a bag of Twizzlers and a flat white, and punch himself in the balls before Abby says something that is supposed to be quirky but is really just awkward and then all will be well. They will kiss exactly once. The end.

To get through this, I had to ignore all the tech stuff. And all the business stuff. Which means the plot, really. Fortunately, the plot is ignorable because it's just the frame for hanging the romantic relationship developments. Which was fine for the first half of the story or so.

Abby is the go-her-own-way tech nerd who gets stuff done and doesn't apologize for who she is. I liked that, and that she'd own it wholeheartedly with both her interests (nerd stuff) and her love of dying her hair odd colors. Frankly, that's almost always going to endear a character to me, particularly if they own it as thoroughly as Abby seemed to. Which is unfortunate because it turns out she's not really a strong woman but a fragile flower afraid of disapproval, but that doesn't come up until later.

Zane is a buttoned-down, emotionally distant guy just waiting for the right woman to unlock his inner family-man, only he shows that by never going on more than a few dates with anyone. Oh, and by starting a partnership with a slimeball who goads him into stupidity and makes nasty remarks about women.

And okay, all of that is a bit harsh in tone when I actually kind of liked their romance. For a while, anyway. I mean, I liked his appreciation for Abby and I liked that she enjoyed loosening him up and discovering the fun guy locked in his emotional desertscape. And I like competent people so as long as I didn't look to hard at details, having Abby drop into his startup and kick technical booty was mildly interesting, too.

And then the author throws everything away by making a mountain out of a molehill for a dark moment and Abby turns into a wuss and Zane into a ditherer and I lost my ability to care. I had hoped that it'd pull out of the tailspin, but instead, it swings the other way just as hard so we get completely ridiculous "I love yous" followed by "I will tell you how much I love you every day". It was like I'd skipped a bunch of chapters without realizing it. Only I know I didn't because by that time I was counting the pages as they passed. Never a good sign.

So this is two stars, cemented when the epilogue hit and turned out to be one of those abominations that are actually an ad for the next book. Like, it was the next protagonist's point of view and didn't have anything at all to do with Zane and Abby. Ugh. Note to authors: this is a mistake. Epilogues are for closure. This is the opposite of closure.

A note about Chaste: They were never in a place to have sex. So there is none. I think this is deliberate on the part of the author, and this aspect, at least, actually worked. So there's that.

I’m so glad I picked up a copy of Falling for Your Best Friend's Twin because I absolutely adored this one! This is one of those books that was recommended to me that actually lived up to the hype! I even read it in one sitting because of how cute I thought it was. So, I definitely recommend it! Especially if you enjoy a clean/wholesome, and sweet romantic comedy!

More about the book: Falling for Your Best Friend's Twin is the first book in the Love Clichés series. Each of these books feature one of five best friends as they handle dating (and its mishaps). Each book also features a different romance trope so readers who enjoy a variety can easily find something they love within this series.

In this one, the best friends brother/twin trope is used. Not only that, Abby and Zane are COMPLETE opposites. She considers herself as geeky because she’s into tech and he’s the guy in a suite working on his startup company. But alas, being total opposites doesn’t matter because these two are absolutely PERFECT for each other and it’s shown through this book! I have a feeling many will adore both Abby and Zane! Their love story is nearly effortless and it’s so much fun to watch them overcome their own insecurities in this book.

All in all, I definitely recommend this one and I can’t wait to start the second book in the series as soon as I can.

Emma St. Clair is a popular author for clean romance books and a bunch of her books' plots have interested me. I was in the mood for a cute rom-com and decided to try this one out.

I do feel bad giving it two stars (because it was a fun plot), but there were parts that made me uncomfortable (mainly all the innuendos), so while I did laugh (mostly in utter embarrassment), I think that's a better rating for it, for me personally. I typically only review Christian Fiction books and my standards are different than the typical reader. This was a cute book, please don't get me wrong, but I like mine to be a bit squeakier than this one. It was a quick two hours reading it. 😅

Main Content that I can remember off of the top of my head:
Kisses that last a few paragraphs; Lots of noticing, touches & attraction; Many Innuendos about people being intimate and sleeping around (both married and unmarried); A couple's massage with them naked in the same room (while covered with a sheet, but they both think about the other lot; this was more than a bit much, in my opinion); Slang about sleeping around & while Zane has dated a lot, he's clear about the fact he doesn't sleep around; Recalling bullies & the aftereffects bullying had on Abby; Minor cussing like 'suck', 'heck', and a couple nods to stronger language.

What a fun rom com!

I have heard so many great things about this author and I knew this was the first book I wanted to try.

I loved it! I liked the “voice” of the main character right away and meeting all the women who will be the fmc’s for the rest of the series.

I liked the characters right away and the plot line at work was entertaining. There were some parts of the romance that didn’t quite make it to 5 stars for me but I am very excited to keep reading these books!

It was completely clean and no language I can remember. There were some kiss scenes that had great chemistry but not too much detail.

“You’re my Ellie,” [...]

Oh, Abby. What a bundle a joy. Quirky and outspoken, I love how unapologetically herself she is! With Zane being more formal, I loved this opposites-attract romance that's filled with forced proximity and swoonworthy closet kisses.

Tasked with helping Zane code his upcoming app launch, tech-genus Abby gets swept away in investors meetings, weekend getaways, and the threat of a potential hacker. And of course, falling in love with her best friend's brother with hilarious mishaps along the way.

While Abby is truly a confident character, I loved seeing those past feelings of insecurity attempt to creep in again. Our past really shapes us, and it was inspiring to see what Abby has overcome. I adored her and everything about this story!

3.75 stars. The plot is good and makes sense. Mostly. But it's a little too shallow. They fall in love over a week and things shift so quickly.

I liked it but it doesn't leave me with swoony happy feelings. It's perfectly fine.

an ok read.

i'm a sucker for illustrated covers and romcoms, and this book has both of the things that make me want to read a book.
it started ok, but then the characters go to a resort with this girl Charla who's a very girly girl, the heroine is always thinking not necessarily bad things about Charla, but she's like 'oh, she must be dumb just because she likes a spa day', and the heroine works with tech which is a male-dominated field, so i just think is stupid of her to judge her when she probably gets judged on her field all the time.

besides that, i also think it was too insta love for, i just read an MZ book so i want DEVELOPMENT! not every book needs to be a slow burn, but this felt too fast for me.

This was a fun romantic comedy. I enjoy the opposites-attract trope and Abby & Zane are total opposites, but they seem to work. I thought the story was good, kept me turning the pages. This is the first book by Ms. St. Clair that I've read, I look forward to trying more of her books, especially Zoey's story in Falling for Your Boss and the rest of Abby's roommates.

This book was so cute! Abby has nursed a secret crush on her best friend's twin for years. But when Zane hires Abby to fix a bug in the app he is preparing to launch, Abby hopes she can keep her feelings under wraps. Soon, Abby finds herself invited on a business trip with Zane and his partner. Not as Zane's date, but as his smoozy partner's date. She is not prepared for how potentially awkward and disastrous the trip can go.

There were some hilarious moments in this book, and some very sweet and swoony moments. The references to various fandoms throughout the book made me chuckle. I loved the friendship between Abby and Zane's twin sister Zoey. And I adored the romance that developed. I can't wait to read more books in the series.

I loved the book overall just needs a little bit of editing (like just a little). For some this might be a cliche but for me, it was absolutely perfect.

I had a big smile while reading this book. It was honestly such a fluffy romance, god, my heart is so full right now. Just what I needed. It’s like a doze of happiness and fuzzy feelings packed into a book.

The book has got an interesting friends dynamic going on which continues for the rest of the series as they follow the story of each friend.

This one deals with Abby and Zane, Zoeys Twin brother. Both are distinct characters, have their own insecurities and flaws yet they emerge victorious together.

Abby is a computer geek/professional and she’s hired by Zane to work in his company. And I love her. Yes, she’s amazing and she needs to be protected at all costs. I don’t know why, but I just love her way too much. I love how she actually won over her insecurities, was vocal about them, and just communicated instead of creating a mess by not doing so. So yes, I’ll say this again, I LOVED ABBY.

Zane is an interesting character. He’s the grumpy guy who wears suits and grumbles but with Abby, he’s all sunshine. Our man does boy obsessed trope better than anyone else. It’s endearing. The way he worships Abby, god, I want that. I just overall loved how warm, and pure his character was.

Honestly, this would be a perfect rom-com movie especially with the last few chapters, so Netflix, where are you??

Funny read with unresolved issues

My Rating System
5 stars--WOW
4 stars--would read again
3 stars--was good, won't read again
2 stars--read it, but didn't enjoy it
1 star--didn't finish, it was so awful

Do I need to read books before this one: no
Cliffhanger: no

This romantic comedy series is tied together by Sam, a love advice columnist who has signed a love stories book deal. She needs real relationship stories, not just questions. She asks her four roommates--Zoey, Abby, Delilah, and Harper--to help. They think she's crazy.

This story involves Abby, a programming genius, and Zane, owner of a startup company. They're connected by Zoey, his twin and her best friend. Zane’s discovered a glitch in Eck0, so Zoey gives him Abby's number. He texts her a formal letter, which makes her have to tease him. She agrees to help because she's trying to build up a clientele list so she can leave her numbing day job. Zoey feeds Zane the secrets to keeping Abby happy and productive (favorite coffee, restaurant, treats). She is invited to a resort for the weekend to help secure more venture capitalist investments.

This story is so fun to read at the beginning! Abby's character is heavily based on NCIS's Abby, complete with a Gibbs mental voice. Because Abby is a geek, she naturally uses geek culture in her thoughts (tricksy Sam, the waitress runs like she's being chased by a pack of Dementors,) and in her wardrobe (Stranger Things t-shirt, spike bracelet). I kept sharing parts with my husband because we're both geeks, too. Sadly, this becomes more and more sporadic as the story progresses. Zane is the complete opposite--suits, conservative, etc. Maybe he's Gibbs? His mother died when he and Zoey were sophomores in high school, and their military father dealt with grief and parenting by making more and more rules. Zane keeps mentally comparing Abby to his mother; they share a joie de vivre that he hasn't felt in forever. The repeated comparisons and recurring grief is overdone, and I hope he's not marrying his mom.

The story follows the usual format of attraction growing, worries, love blooming, big problem at ~80%, and resolution with HEA. However satisfactory the HEA in this story is, the denouement is unsatisfactory. She forgives him far too easily, and he hasn't become stronger. Also, what happens with their employment? How is the hacking resolved? Does Eck0 get launched on time? Do the VCs invest or not? And what happened with the car accident?

I grabbed the bonus material to read their engagement story. Even with that, I was left uncertain about their commitment to each other because of these unresolved issues. It feels like we jumped back to pre-hacker-reveal, to an innocent and immature love. I've read fast courtships, and I live love at first sight that's lasted 30 years, but this one feels unbelievable and, frankly, flimsy.

I recommend this book to anyone who wants an enjoyable, absolutely clean read. It certainly has multiple hilarious moments. It does leave questions unanswered.

FAVORITE QUOTE(S)
“Normal isn’t a thing. You’re *you.* Don’t change your style for anyone. You’re perfect just the way you are.”

Insecurities never fully disappear. Now, I’m just better at shutting them down.

“Women are a treasure. A gift. What do you do with treasure?” “Hoard it?” I’d asked, being a snarky fifteen-year-old. Mom had smacked me on the arm, but she was smiling. “No, Smaug. You protect it. You guard it. You always remember its value.”

POSSIBLE TRIGGERS (spoilers)
Sex: kisses, report of 2 characters sleeping together, nude scene with no description and no looking
Language: 0 F words, 0 Lord's name in vain, 0 S words
Violence: security guard tackles and cuffs a character, report of bullying in high school, report of fatal car crash but no details, drunk scene, fire

Falling for Your Best Friend’s Twin by Emma St. Clair is a contemporary romantic comedy about Abby, a quirky tech coder who has quietly crushed on Zane, her best friend Zoey’s grumpy, attractive twin brother for years, only to find herself forced into working for him to fix a bug in his startup’s software and then stuck together on an investor weekend where blurred boundaries make her feelings even harder to deny.

Right from the beginning this book made me smile at how vividly Emma St. Clair draws Abby’s inner world: she’s intelligent, geeky, and charmingly awkward (complete with fandom references and hilariously awkward moments) and yet deeply human in her fear of risking a cherished friendship for something more. Zane, business-minded and composed, contrasts with her energy in ways that made their interactions fun and unpredictable, and the forced proximity of a resort trip created both laugh-out-loud awkwardness and real emotional tension. There were moments that genuinely warmed my heart, especially in how Abby confronts old insecurities and begins to open up, and I loved the side friendships and supportive cast who made her feel seen.

The book isn’t perfect: there were times, especially in the second half, where the pacing felt rushed, some conflicts felt too quickly resolved and the relationship moved faster than I expected, which made parts of the romance feel less grounded than I would have liked. His feeling that things shift quickly and the deeper emotional beats don’t always land as fully as they could. Even so, the gentle humor, the way the narrative embraces vulnerability and friendship, and the cozy, feel-good tone made me genuinely enjoy my time with these characters.

I give Falling for Your Best Friend’s Twin 3 out of 5 stars. It’s a sweet, light romance that made me laugh, made me root for Abby’s growth, and left me smiling, even if certain elements felt a bit rushed or familiar. If you want a heart-warming, PG-romcom with wit and charm, this feels like curling up with a favorite playlist on a lazy afternoon.

Oh, I looooove cliches 🥺
Abby, our MC, is absolutely the cutest. She is this super geek nerdy girl who is super sure of herself (bc she is amazing) but still have her insecurities and bc of that she is super relatable. I don’t have one bad thing to say about her.
So, like the tittle spill to us, she has a crush on her bff twin, the all perfect and polish Zane.
The book was a sweet and adorable thing and I would recommend to get yourself out of a book hangover, but don’t expect tooooo much of it. It was an adorable book but Zane and Abby’s relationship come out of nowhere. Abby already had a crush on Zane when she went to work for him, but he is portrait as this playboy who date a lot of woman and never ever have a serious relationship so she thought she would never get a chance. Then, we see that Zane isn’t this absolutely manwhore and, again, out of nowhere - after like 2 days of working together - he decides that he wants a serious relationship with Abby. It happens all too fast, there is no smut or steamy (if you’re asking), he then screw things, made a big gesture and the end. Yes, it’s a little rushed. Like I said, it’s cute and adorable but it’s not amazing or remarkable.

I LOVE a good romantic comedy, especially right now. This one by Emma St Clair is one of my favorites that I’ve read lately. I LOVED everything about it. Her characters, plot and the situations the characters were in were just so funny!

Abby’s group of roommates made me smile. I can’t wait to get to know all of them. Sam is writing a book and asks all of her friends to get into a relationship with a trope that she can use in a book, then she’ll write about it. Right, just get into a relationship like that. The funny thing is that Abby does. With her best friends twin brother.

I love Abby. She’s a tech nerd who always wears clothes that are a little crazy. She has her own quirks. They are so funny. But they’re just her. Abby ends up working for Zoey, the best friend, twin brother Zane. Only, Abby has had a crush on Zane for forever. And sparks fly right away.

Zane is a serial dater, but a really good guy. I liked the way he was so straight laced to Abby’s crazy. These two just fit.

I loved everything about this one. Can’t wait to read the next book!

I was sent an e-copy of Falling For Your Best Friend’s Twin as a gift from the author. All opinions are my own.

Okay, overall thoughts: cute, super clean (G rated), I liked getting the man’s perspective, I wanted more information.

I think this would be a good book for young adults and teens or anyone who likes romance without the steam.

I loved getting Zane’s perspective. I also really liked the dialogue between Zane and Abby. They were sassy and made me grin multiple times.

I didn’t like that there was no follow up on the hacker situation. It was a huge part of the book and then was dropped immediately. I also didn’t love that this took place over like 2 weeks and before their first date, both of them was already thinking that they loved each other. The “fight” that happens in every romance book was absolutely an overreaction and could have been avoided with a 2 minute conversation.

I did like this book and would read more from this author. It would be the perfect read if you want to start and finish a book in one day or if you’re sick in bed and can’t focus 100%.

Občas celkom dobre/ úsmevne spracované, no to len pár krát.

Enjoyable romcom that had fun moments and characters who quickly pulled me into their world. I liked both characters and enjoyed watching their story unfold. An easy read that had a good balance of swoony tension without the unnecessary cringe.

**Content: no language, mild sexual insinuation and innuendo but nothing more than passionate kissing between the main characters

This was cute and my inner nerd loved the geekiness(even the fandom ones I only vaguely knew but am not part of)! I laughed out loud several times, definitely my kind of humor!

I think it would’ve been 5 stars for me except there were too many romantic references and innuendos that went too far(though besides some kisses doesn’t go any farther between the mc’s)…
Everything happened at a pretty good click, think I would’ve gone for a slower burn..
Also Abby TOTALLY over reacts about a situation towards the end and runs away and that was almost too much. But. She did apologize… and the reconciliation was adorable(though also a bit dramatic.. but so absurd it was funny and… I forgave it).

The “staying true to who you are” and insecurities from bullying when you were younger and doing your best to overcome themes I appreciated to a certain degree (Abby is so fun and Zane SEEING Abby makes you like him more) and makes this definitely cliche story a tad less fluff consistency but I think it could’ve been handled a bit better…

I loved these characters though! They all had layers to them and they did learn more about themselves throughout and I think that’s what makes good, relatable character. I loved the girls friendships and rooting for each other!!
