Erik Burnham is a Minnesotan writer and artist that first broke into comics with a series of humorous short stories in the Shooting Star Comics Anthology. These stories featured his original creation, Nick Landime, and culminated in a one-shot: Nick Landime vs. the World Crime League, published by Shooting Star in 2005.

Off and on, in this same time period, Erik also produced a short run of an online strip, The Down Side, until technical issues wore him down. He aims to return to the strip one day.

In 2007, Erik found produced work for two other anthologies – a short humor piece for History Graphics Press’ Civil War Adventures #1, and a horror story for Gene Simmons’ House of Horror #3, produced by IDW Publishing.

This lead to several other projects for IDW, up to and including his critically acclaimed run on the ongoing GHOSTBUSTERS comic book.

Erik has worked on other projects not related to comic books, and hopes one day to share those with the public at large. In the meantime, he still lives quietly in Minnesota; any rumors about this being because he’s completely afraid of the forty-nine other states (and Canada) remain unverified at this time.

Chaos Comics' collection of bad grrls was infamous in the Nineties for pushing the envelope for violence, mayhem, sex, and antiheroes. Particularly Purgatori who was notable as one of the rare lesbian heroines. Its acquisition by Dynamite has been somewhat mixed because while the characters are recognizable, they lack some of the edge because Dynamite has, well, some standards. I'm not saying I miss the sleaze but I miss the sleaze (I will say I love their take on Chastity and wish she was a bigger character in their roster).

The premise for this book is that Kulan Gath once more is defeated by Red Sonja but she makes the "One Ring" decision to toss his magical amulet in the ocean, which results in him not being resurrected for ten thousand years. This results in Lady Hel, who is the substitute for Lady Death since her rights were sold separately from the other Chaos characters, setting up all of Chaos' former roster to try to steal it. It's a fascinating free for all that eventually results in many of them being sent back in time.

Unsurprisingly, Chastity is the one girl who doesn't feel watered down and works surprisingly well across Red Sonja. She was always more hero than anti and seeing them slay vampires together in the Hyborian Age was quite fun. I also love how Chastity doesn't speak the language and Red Sonja then asks if she's from New York, which is a hilarious nod to all the times Red Sonja was flung into the future. I regret we didn't get a bigger role for Bad Kitty who is another Chaos character who would have fit better in all this.

I didn't much care for the fact Red Sonja has her big victory over Kulan Gath reversed and it's implied she'll always be fighting him--despite that being a danger of the medium--but it was still largely enjoyable.

Mistress Hell and Lady Demon have made various characters of the Dynamite comics their pawns to see if they can speed up the end of the earth or save it. Overall, this is a fun and quick read with plenty of action and includes some of the best of the bad girl characters from the Dynamite comics including Purgatori, Chasity, Red Sonja, and Bad Kitty.

The art is good, especially Evil Ernie. He looks like a version of Eddie, the mascot of the metal band Iron Maiden.

Had never heard of the Chaos! Comics characters, but honestly this does a pretty good job at getting a newbie up to speed. It's a more lightweight, "modern" feeling book, but oddly also kinda retro in its big 90s style smorgasbord of heavy metal album cover looking characters fulla TUDE. I mean lol, "Evil Ernie" and his talking smiley face pin. Wudda giveaway that this character was designed in 1991!

Chaotic (no pun intended) but never confusing, it's an okay "bad girls fightin'" book.

This was better than it has any right to be. Dynamite has gained access to all of the Chaos comics characters of the 90s other than Lady Death apparently. They all get thrown back to Red Sonja's time after Kulan Gath dies and causes the timeline to die off in our time. Then it's a free for all to gain his power or restore the proper timeline in Red Sonja's case. Red Sonja does have a weird hair cut in this one where it looks like she stuck her finger in a light socket.
