Trailer Park Vampire #2

Hillbillies and HellHounds

There’s never a dull day in Windy Ridge.

When I’m not trying to play mama to a restless and spirited teenager, I’m out in the woods trying to round up monsters.

And let’s not even bring up my love life—something that’s been nonexistent for years. That is until an old flame from high school decides to step back into my life. And my heart.

The only thing is… Sheriff Dean Hawke (the above-mentioned old flame) seems to be hiding his own secrets. Whenever I try to bring up his past, he deflects or ignores the subject altogether. And that’s definitely one of those things that makes you go hmm...

Of course, I can’t think on the secretive sheriff for long. Not when things in Windy Ridge are getting downright infernal, with random fires popping up all over the danged place.

Quick to pick up the scent of the burning trail, I’ll find myself in the big city, the sheriff by my side, as we try to get to the bottom of the mystery of the burned-out remains of the Thatcher house.

In the process, I might just be able to put to bed one of the sheriff’s own mysteries.

All in a night’s work by Windy Ridge’s own vampire waitress and monster hunter...

Welcome back to Windy Ridge, Twila and the boys are out hunting monsters, finding new ones each day. Sheriff Dean is helping out and he is hiding secrets of his own. When things start to get hot literally with fires popping up all over. Twila and Dean are on the hunt to figure out what is happening with the fires Will they get to the bottom of the fires and will Twila get to the bottom of the sheriff's secrets.

Twila and the gang are back and honestly funnier then ever. Twila is just as kick butt as ever and is getting into more trouble. I mean getting shot with buckshot and then bent over a table well you get the picture. One funny hilarious thing after another happens to poor Twila and she bounced back feistier then ever. Dean is well he is a man with secrets but he is still sexy and sweet with a little bit of devil in him to make you want in your life. Sicily is a fire ball she is one cool cookie and wants to help out wherever she can but like everyone else she is hiding secrets from her mother. You will love her and want to wrap her up in a blanket and tell her everything will be ok. These are such fun characters and each one the characters grow and get more and more complex

This is one of those books that is just a fun book to read . I love those kind of books after a long day of well almost anything. The characters are well written and the story is just fun to read. I mean when you have someone picking buck shot of your butt over a kitchen table just sent me off into fits of giggles. The authors have a great way of building the story and the characters. This is one of those series that will have you rolling in your seat all the way through and also wanting to wrap up a few characters in warm blankets and hugging them and telling them everything will be ok .If you want a fun mystery with a bit of romance check out this series for your Christmas reading list .

Rural Supernatural Investigations. I love this series.

This is the second book in a new series set in the small town of Windy Ridge, the middle of nowhere, USA. it’s just as good as book one was. I raced through it. This is quite unlike anything I’ve read from HP Mallory and JR Rain so far.

I’m not sure how to categorise this book. It has some potential for romance, so it could be classed as Paranormal Romance but its a very slow burn. It could be Urban Fantasy, although the setting is more rural than urban. Whatever the category, the world building and character building in this book is excellent.

The town of Windy Ridge was an ordinary run-of-the-mill, sleepy town until the red mist hit. Now its a town full of supernaturals just trying to get by while remaining secret from the rest of the world.

I love the characters in this series. A seemingly mismatched bunch of formerly ordinary people begrudgingly led by waitress turned vampire alongside the human sheriff have their own cobbled-together law enforcement who are trying to keep the peace while finding missing members of their town and uncover what caused all the changes to the townsfolk.

When there is an attack on the locals and investigations uncover a burned out home and a missing family, some outside help is needed to get to the bottom of things. It would seem that the human sheriff has a few secrets of his own.

The reading order for this series is as follows:

Shotguns and Shifters, Book 1
Hillbillies and Hellhounds, Book 2

Windy Ridge is a typical small town in the Ozarks, except for all the monsters that live there. A year or so ago, a red fog permeated their town and a few neighboring areas. The fog left as fast as it came and in its wake left monsters where there used to be humans. Twila turned into a vampire. Ol' Ned turned into a Lizardman. Bud was not the resident Wolfman. Boone was cured of cancer but now had no hair. Twila's daughter used to be the sole resident human until Sheriff Dean Hawke and his nephew Mason came to town. Twenty-three years didn't dim the sparks between him and Twila, but he was a man of mystery. He knew Twila is now a vampire and he is in charge of keeping a variety of creatures safe, but his time away is cloaked in mystery.

Christmas time in Windy Ridge brings festivities, but a bat-man is on the loose. Twila tries to uncover what Dean is hiding as they hunt this monster. What the team uncovers shocks them to the core.

This is the second book in the series and you should probably read the first one before reading this book. It could be standalone, but you miss out on some of the subplots. As with the first book, the monster they are hunting takes up the beginning of the book but seems to get settled out of sight as another plot line takes the forefront. You get a little more information about Dean and get to know Slim Jim who was missing for most of the first book. There is a substory that could take a dark turn, so it will keep you reading to see if your hunches are correct.

Hillbillies and Hellhounds is the second book in the Trailer Park Vampire series by H.P. Mallory and J.R. Rain. Filled with shifters who were recently turned due to a strange red fog, this book is fun, exciting, and completely engaging. Each character we meet in this book is a different type of shifter, some able to “look” human, others not so much.

A direct continuation of book 1, Hillbillies and Hellhounds has Twila, Sicily, Dean, Mason, and the rest of the trying to locate missing townsfolk. As they search, Twila and Dean locate a house that has mysterious burned areas. Nothing they can think of explains what happened or where the occupants have gone, and Twila finds herself engulfed in another mystery. A mystery that includes other mysterious fires and possibly a hellhound.

I really enjoyed Hillbillies and Hellhounds. The characters are fun and interesting. The setting is enjoyably and described well, making it easy to picture each scene. I look forward to the next book.

Slim Jim, an old resident of the town, has been found and taken over the backwoods security for the area, using infrared and other electronics to locate monsters. Since Sheriff Dean is now aware of the town’s secret, he is on the monster hunting team. And there’s a new one in their sights: a bat-man.

This has an interesting, but sad twist at the end.

Fave scenes: Twila’s embarrassing wound, Twila standing up to Skye, Twila tricking Dorcas and following the pig.

wry good read

The three small towns of Damnation county are filled with the most interesting “people?” Since a mysterious fog came through, almost everyone in the county has been transformed into some kind of creature. Most of them have their old personalities, but most of them also have new talents, appearances, etc. Quite fascinating.

There's plenty going on in this book. A unknown paranormal is a danger to others and is being sought after by the gang and law enforcement. A second chance romance doesn't have much of a chance if honesty is not offered. The characters are showing more dimensions and draw readers in the storyline.

Meh

I tried very much to like this series, but after the second book, I just can't continue. The best word to describe it is predictable.
