Silence is scary, scarier than noise. When you hear things in the dark silence of the night, you know what it means, they are watching you. The moment you are vulnerable, that's when they will strike. Why you ask? Because you're alive. 'Ghosts In The Dark Silence' is a compilation of five stories, narrating five different supernatural encounters. What happens when a couple builds their dream house but something sinister has happened in the land, when an innocent game of ouija becomes a living nightmare. These are stories of innocent, frightened people who became victims of something unknown and dangerous.
When you don't fear something, it intrigues you more and it piques your curiosity more. I experienced something similar with this book. The title 'Ghosts In The Dark Silence' is pretty much self explanatory. It brings you five doses of creepy, chilling horror. This is a perfect book to pass your time with in a cold winter evening. The story setting and the plots are equally enthralling and horrifying but they are very much predictable. One particular story grabbed my attention more than the others, it was 'The Ouija Backlash'. There's something different in that story. 'The Eternal Ties' is my second favourite. Rest of them were fine but none of them gave me goosebumps.
I enjoyed the character sketches in these stories. Writing style is good and engaging. However the endings were a bit shaky and abrupt. Recommended to beginners.
This book consists of five short stories revolving around different parts of India but is centralized in the author's hometown Shimla. Each tale has malicious spirits; some want revenge, while others try to protect the protagonist. Some are misled, while some are victims of the evildoers.
The language and narration are likable, but the endings could have been better. Although I can effortlessly get scared, these tales impacted me, and now I hope they will not come to me as nightmares. But if you love the stories that slowly crept into your mind and body, then this book is for you. I recommend it.
I love listening to ghost stories they take me back to that time of life when I was a child & my grandmother used to tell me about the incidents when they encountered a ghost.
Since then I believed in the existence of another realm where ghosts do exist.
Ghost in the dark silence by Anita Krishan is also based on five real haunted supernatural incidents where ghosts have impacted the lives of people.
The narration of this book is brilliant, the story is fast-paced & at the same time, it is thrilling & chilling, won't recommend you to read it at night time but will surely recommend it to horror fans & enthusiasts.
There are only a few horror or paranormal books I have read, and this author’s work is famous as well. So, I tried her book, and I am astonished after reading it. I read only one story a night because I didn’t want nightmares, but that doesn’t mean it can’t hold the reader's attention or that this is boring; instead, it is very interesting, not like other books that have clichéd storylines. The descriptiveness of the story is accurate, which will hook. I loved the concept of running in time backwards from the third story with the common character of Niketanand, who is my most adored character. The stories are similar to novellas, with each having a different chilling feel, but in the second story, the backstory of the real ghost was a little complicated, and the true ghost or supernatural was not found, and Payal is still frightening me. I wanted the mystery to be solved, but it horrifies me because it wasn't, and I still think about the creepy things in the story. I felt that the first and fourth stories were a little inspired from Indian horror shows and traditional stories, and the fourth one had ghosts, reason, and a villain, and everything was predicted by me before finishing the story, but this is not a mystery read in which you have to predict; it’s the experience of getting chills and having a fear of getting nightmares during sleep that is found in the book. The Ouija Board story was a favourite not only because it was divided into three sections but also because of the mysterious elements and plot twists, as well as the mystery of the woman ghost, which was both unpredictable and amazing. For me, it was a terrific read, and I loved it.
"Have you run your fingers down the wall And have you felt your neck skin crawl When you're searching for the light? Sometimes when you're scared to take a look At the corner of the room You've sensed that something's watching you Fear of the dark Fear of the dark I have a constant fear that something's always near"
These are the lines from the popular Iron Maiden that often popped up in my head while reading this book. This book comes from the Bestselling horror author of the book Ghosts of the Silent Hills. The author started off as a skeptic but it is strange how our experiences shape the world around us. The author's strong belief in the spiritual realm is iminent in this spooky short story collection. She has come up with five harrowing tales which will leave you sleepless. All of them are inspired from real events and this is what makes the reader further invested in the book. Being a big fan of Joe Hill books and James Wan movies, this book was an absolute treat for me. The story : 'The Sinister Invasion' in particular gave me goosebumps.
Word of advice: Avoid reading it at night at all costs
RATING : 4/5🌟 🌺🌺 The author who has also written Ghosts of the Silent Hill never experienced herself any such supernatural power at that time but after her husband went through an operation things changed. He started to get the dreams of a place with light and beings who told him that his time has not yet come to join them so he must return.
That experience was real for him and he used to talk about it with the author often after his surgery. From that time the interest of the author went on to research about this. Doctors and scientists tell this hallucination but she firmly believe that there is Realme beyond the world where the spirit exists after death.
The book contains short stories of five families having description of their experiences of the unknown people who are beings trapped into this world even after death. As they're based on true events and facts, it makes the story an interesting read and smooth narration, interesting characters complementing the story are enhancers of the reading experience.
There is no hyped horror scenes in the stories with unnecessary narration of place, people and situations surrounding to create fear. Actually the short length of all the stories and the book overall makes it fast and focused read which hooked me up with the book till the last page.
The horror fans must try it. If you fear to read these types of stories at night then read it on day time but must not miss this. And non-horror readers can also try it, looking at it crispy and true events based stories. 🌺🌺
Five stories of five families that takes us on a chilling path, fested by entities who baffle the simple understanding of the common people, instilling a deep fear for the paranormal. Unveiling the darkness brings with it an unbearable price for who so ever dares to try.

And much more to encounter in the saga of "Ghosts in the Dark Silence". Will the darkness be defeated by the light? Read now to find out.
A thrilling and intriguing book with fear inducing details about the paranormal that are based of true incidents. The book does not only depict the bone chilling events that occur but also shines light on the strength of devotion, humility and a good heart. A great and entertaining book for thoes who love good horror experience.
My love for horror books is something like that would never change and I enjoy every spooky tale which not only gives a feel for fear but also gives us the emotions of long lost love, vulnerability, sadness of some lost souls who didn't find peace. Even though life after death or ghosts are something that wasn't believed by many but the author had a strong feeling of it being true which is truly evident in the narration.
This book contains the story of five families whose life seemed to be going good and were suddenly encountered with paranormal experiences and terrifying them to the core. All the five stories in this book are very unique from each other.
I felt like the paranormal activities of this book aren't as terrifying as the stories of the lost souls which are sometimes heart wrenching. There are stories of those lost souls who want revenge where some other tries to save the main lead. Some others are misled, others are victims of evil eyes.
This book contains the spooky tales of different places in Shimla and the way the author described the hills, nature and the spooky tales were fantastic. It didn't terrify me much but I was lost in the stories once I picked up this book and I wasn't able to put it down until I finished it.
The Ouija Backlash is my favourite and I felt goosebumps while reading this story. I'm not a spoiler giver but one can guess a little bit after looking at the title of the story.
Remaining stories were also very good but I like this more.
I'm sure anyone who started reading this book will definitely finish it without any further doubt. I've finished this book in a couple of sittings and I really felt very happy to read a horror book after a long time.
I highly recommend this book for all my bookish friends who love reading horror and Thriller books… Happy Reading 😊❤️…
JiIndian folklore and mythology have long incorporated elements of the horror genre, which explores themes of dread, fear, and the supernatural. Indian horror films frequently feature vengeful female spirits known as "chudails" or "daayans," which have played a significant part in Indian culture in the form of ghost stories and other supernatural beings. The idea of karma and reincarnation is frequently explored in these films, suggesting that our previous deeds may come back to haunt us. A intriguing and vibrant aspect of Indian culture that provides audiences with a thrilling and terrifying experience is created by this distinctive fusion of traditional beliefs and modern storytelling techniques.Anita Krishan's Ghosts in the Dark Silence is a compilation of five terrifying tales based on real incidents that are sure to give readers the shivers. The book contains strange, gory, and slightly spooky tales that captivate the reader and provide an unforgettable experience. In the first tale, a newlywed couple moves into their ideal home only to discover that it has become their worst nightmare. They eventually come to the conclusion that evil spirits are preying on them as they begin to experience strange occurrences in the house. The author's masterful storytelling abilities are on full display as the suspense steadily increases until the shocking climax. The remaining tales in the collection share elements in common with the majority of ghost encounters, but are each written in a distinctive manner.
As the title goes, this horror novel will give you the chills as they are inspired by true events. Divided into short stories, the setting of the novel is pan India with special focus on Shimla. The vivid descriptions and impactful imagery will keep you gripped throughout. The narration and plotlines are immersive and evocative. Read it for the writing style.
As someone who loves the horror genre, the stories were rather simplistic and not extremely traumatising, but it would be great for beginners who wish to experience the spookiness through the world and environment that the author creates. This one involves both good and bad ghosts which have a persona of their own with their background stories.
A lot of the scenes and gory visuals will stay with you even after finishing the book. If you wish to take a closer look at haunted houses, black magic, revenge-seeking spirits, love, calm and terror, then this one is for you. After reading this one, I definitely want to read the author’s previous book – Ghosts in the Silent Hills as well.
Do you enjoy Ghost stories? I just love reading ghost stories and I also enjoy watching them. Jump scares are the best part of horror stories. An interesting fact about ghost stories is that they creep slowly. We won't feel much while reading them but they will kick slowly after some time.
Faint sounds and silhouettes along with our imagination, we feel surrounded by ghosts and what not. I'm not a scaredy cat, I always try to wear a brave hat while watching/reading horror stories. But trust me, when I'm all alone it is hell scary.🤣🤣
Ghosts in the dark Silence by Anita Krishan is a book that will not fail our expectations. This is a collection of five short stories and the most shocking fact is that it is inspired by true events. I can say that the author has shown complete justice to the book.
I loved the narration and execution of the stories. We can see that these stories are different from one another yet there is some connection. At times I felt that the narration was extended unnecessarily. But overall, the experience was mind-blowing and really bone chilling.
A clever collection of horror and supernatural stories, Ghosts in the Dark Silence by Anita Krishan does it's part in waving off the mist between the ordinary and the itch beneath your skin that doesn't let you sleep. It has the following stories:
• The Eternal Ties: With the right amount of supernatural, it is a super short story but still has its impact. Although I think the writing could've been better, I'd say you don't miss out on this one.
• The Sinister Invasion: This is an objectively good horror story, revolving around a couple's lives turned to hell because of the ones that hover around with death.
• The Oiuja Backlash: This was my personal favourite and emphasized on the need to make sure whatever you do, you finish it. Its the only story I don't prefer reading in the dark.
• A Misled Spirit: Scary, scary, and scary. Intricate writing, beautifully detailed, and just the horror you don't want to read if you get scared easily.
• The Resurgence: The final story, and a well crafted spooky end to this anthology. I absolutely loved how the story kept me on the edge of the chair till the last sentence.
Although every story is independent, I'd suggest this order of reading- 1. The Eternal Ties 2. The Sinister Invasion 3. A Misled Spirit 4. The Oiuja Backlash 5. The Resurgence
This is one of the best ghost stories involving mystery, love, supernaturals, black magic and reincarnations too. As the writer of this book Anita Krishan is from the beautiful mountains of Shimla her portrayal of scenes of the occurrence of each story is so to the point that it is as if you are there by yourself. This book consists of total 5 story based upon real tales among which I especially loved the The Ouija Backlash story it had a satisfying amount of thril and mystery to it which will get your hearts racing. I extremely loved how the book is started of with quotes and poetry. "Life brought us together, we carved us a path. Across aeons we trudged, through roughs and calms. full feeling our promises till death did us apart." You exist in time, but you belong to eternity. You are deathless, living in a body of death. Your consciousness knows no death no birth.it is only your body that is born and dies. These are the lines that stood out to me the most. But through out the stories i experienced chills and heart race cause the writer knows how exactly to entice and engage her readers with the story. Definitely a book for those who love horrors but also for those who wants to read a story beyond just a little adrenaline but a real heart touching writeup.
Ghosts in the Dark Silence is a collection of dark and twisted stories of paranormal experiences of people. It's the kind of stories that will give you goosebumps while walking alone, or will force you to watch your back if you hear a voice behind.
It's written by author in a comprehensible and easy launguage, which can be read by beginners of this genre.
I took my time to read them, and only read one story a day before going to sleep (which makes it more scary 😂)
While some stories were good and scary enough to read, some other of them felt like they were over described, each little details, which made them long and dull.
Cover of the book is one of the good part and some prose written in the starting are deep and meaningful. Overall i liked reading this book and would like to recommend it to such people who enjoys reading Indian horror stories.
The book comprising of five stories, each one of them will surely keep you awake.
Starting from the story of a boy and her eagerly waiting soulmate to the story of youngster falling in trap and exploring darker aspects of tantra vidya, Anita Krishan's stories prove to be horrible.
The writing style is consuming and captivating. Filled with dramas and unexpected bunch of thrills, the stories will either make your belief stronger or break it. It's a fast paced read of five stories, enough to keep you awake.
Each story is far different from another. One thing which is common in all is the power of belief proposed in them. Out of all stories, I liked "The Oujja Backlash" story the most.
The way every character turns out to be will stun the reader.
Overall, it's a perfect exciting book that readers of every generation and genre will enjoy.
Book: Ghosts In The Dark Silence Author: Anita Krishan ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ I just finished reading this book few days back. And it's my second horror book.
As the title suggests the genre is horror and it is while i was reading the book i felt scary sometimes, the story focused on black magic, murders, paranormal incidents.
The book is inspired by true events. The author has crafted this book in a brilliant way. The book narrates five horror stories in a simple language.
The abnormal/paranormal experiences was real for him and he used to talk about it with the author often after his surgery. From that time the interest of the author went on to research about this. Doctors and scientists tell this hallucination but she firmly believe that there is Realme beyond the world where the spirit exists after death. All the stories are engaging and intriguing. but all are connected to each other in someway or the other.
I would like to recommend this book to people who are into horror and thrillers. If you’re a beginner to reading books in general or new these genres, this book will be a wonderful experience for you. I think it would be a great start to begin your reading journey. It is a whole package which has been meticulously written in a systematic and tremendous.
Anger, jealousy, and hatred are slow poisons. It's like drinking these poisons yourself and expecting them to destroy others."
~ Collection of five stories based on real life events. The book cover is so eye catching and the title is all about the main topic of the stories. ~ The font size is a little small ,it requires time and patience to read it. I prefer books with big fonts. ~ Stories are interesting and somehow resemble the old times ghost stories. I was expecting more from it. The writing style is easy yet thrilling. ~ Readers who believe in ghosts, haunting places, retelling of old mysteries and the existence of the soul will love reading this book. ~ I loved the way the author keeps readers engaged in the stories till the end to know what happened to the humans who suffered because of souls and ghosts. My favourite story is the Sinister Invasion, I was shocked by the end of the story. I was wondering why this tragedy happened and felt so pity for the couple. I hope the author has disclosed what happened to Payal.
💀When did the last time you watched a horror movie or read a spooky story !? I just recently completed one. Remember when as a child we used to fear a lot of the dark ?? Though now the story is the opposite. Anyway let's come to the review.
💀There is one thing that each of us can admit that Indian horror is something else, honestly I felt comical while watching or reading western horror but I still think twice feeling the same for the Indian horror/supernatural stories and events.
💀The book compliles the stories of five families that underwent some harrowing supernatural experiences. All of them have some similarities but one is absolute in the near death experience. It's still unknown what happens after life but if something is not proven yet that just doesn't mean it doesn't exist.
📌It's a liberating, philosophical and a thrilling read. You're going to get some real life experiences of such supernatural events, so brace yourselves. You will relate with the stories somehow. It's short yet significant. If you're looking to read a thrilling and want to experience some real supernatural events then this might be a good fit for you.
'Ghost In The Dark Silence' is a collection of terrifying and bewildering stories that might make you ruminate over any remotely strange incident in your life. Some of the stories give you hope in prayers and righteousness but others leave you gasping for reason.
Each one of them take you inside the dark side of the tantrik world and the demonic side of humans where someone doesn't hesitate to ruin your life for their greed. The author does leave you with hope that prayer, love and guardian spirit always helps an innocent spirit but as you skimp through the pages you feel chills inside your bone and vein.
The stories are connected in a sort of way but they have a unique plot. With spirits, murders, black magic, paranormal incidents the book is frightening especially when you read the cover 'Inspired by true events'...yikes! #readingfatima
Review: First of all, I want to appreciate the beautiful cover of the book.

I love the narrating style of the author and it's another thing that makes the book more enjoyable. Cause the execution of the stories not only giving us in bone chilling experiences, but also thrilling, mysterious side that makes me feel like I'm reading a fast pace thriller book.
And also the way author sets up the scenes, the beautiful description of the background, the nature, you can feel that you're there, watching it happen.
Among all the five stories my favorite ones are - The Eternal Ties, The Ouija Backlash and A Misled Spirit.
So definitely a book I would recommend if you are a horror story lover. Also for beginners as I survive the book, so you can too.
Ghosts In The Dark Silence is a collection of 5 short stories inspired by true events written by Anita Krishan. It is absolutely going to haunt you so don't read it at night if you are not that strong. I love reading ghost stories because they bring back some of my past memories when I was a child when my grandmother used to tell me stories about Ghosts, Fairies, and Witches. This book consists of five different horror stories based in different parts of India, especially the hills of Shimla.
Each ghost has a different story and most of them want to take revenge or they want to protect someone they know. The author with her flawless writing skills has made the stories truly haunting and thrilling. I really loved the plot development of each and every story and I really enjoyed reading about the characters.
One particular story that really got me engaged is 'The Ouija Backlash'. Maybe I was more intrigued into reading it because of the word 'OUIJA' because I find it interesting but to be honest the story itself was very gripping and unputdownable. I will definitely recommend this book to anyone who loves reading short horror stories.

Broaden your horizon of horror fiction by this one and get thrilled.
Ghosts in the Dark Silence by Anita Krishan is a collection of short stories that are of horror genre.
I try my best to avoid reading books of this genre, I really do. But what prompted me to read this one was that the short stories are based on real life incidents from all around the nation.
The backdrop of the stories is set in Shimla and the location just adds to the creepy feeling.
One of my personal favourites was the story where a married couple builds a new home but it doesn't turn out to be happy the way it should have rather becomes a spine chilling horror story.
Every story has a Bollywood movie like plot, I mean it is written in that manner. I would really like to see this as a web series. Just great writing.
Had been purposefully reading some horror novels for the last month and wanted to begin this year on a spooky note. From all the six novels that I read, this book had me vividly hooked to it from beginning to end.
While the other books had the ghosts only evil and troublesome, Krishan Anita has brought a beautiful side of good ghosts. There are ghosts who want to spread evil, some want revenge and some just want to keep the humans safe. I was unable to gulp the thought of good ghosts down my throat because I thought that this was a ghostly conspiracy to shake humans to their core.
Well, the book is a set of five stories which collectively revolve around the same theme and merge in the most unexpected way. The storyline is unmatched and captivating. The writing style of the author is quiet, suspenseful, scary, and very easy to read. Go ahead and pick this book up.
As a reader of thriller, I would highly recommend this book to my fellow readers.
Ghosts in the dark silence is a collection of five stories in the genre of Horror, Spooky and Supernatural. Horror books in Indian context are few and rare so I always try to pick one when available. The stories are atmospheric and will hold the reader's interest all through.
All five stories have different backdrop though the underlying theme is same. The writing style and narrative are impressive, the only drawback is the abrupt and not-so-logical endings for few of the stories. The stories will either scare you on intrigue you based on your beliefs and how you perceive the supernatural.
The stories have the popular tropes like black magic, haunted houses, spirits, unhappy souls, and the likes. The backdrop of chilly hill stations also add to the narrative. The length of each story being short and crisp also adds the reader’s experience.
The cover, the title, the vibe – everything about these stories from the setting to the contemporary characters will appeal to the urban readers, especially young adults. If you like horror stories or always wanted to pick on, do try this one and it will not disappoint.
Ghosts in the dark silence is a collection of five stories based on actual supernatural experiences. These stories are blended with mystery, thrill and paranormal activities.
The first story "The Eternal Ties" is the story of Madhav in Shimla, who had a scary experience in cemetery. The story is well narrated and gives a chilling experience to the readers.
The narrating style of the author Anita Krishan is impressive and at the same time scary😨. Each story is unique and entirely differs from one another. Black magic🧞♂️, haunted house, paranormal activities and unhappy souls in the stories increase the excitement.
The cover of the book is perfectly suitable for the ghost 👻 stories. Overall it's thrilling and scary to read this book and I loved this reading experience 😍
A collection of five short stories that revolve around different parts of India but are centralized in the author's hometown of Shimla. The most striking aspect of this book is that it is inspired by true events, which adds an extra layer of intrigue and horror to the tales.
The author has done complete justice to the book by weaving together these five unique stories with a common thread that connects them in a subtle but profound way. Each story has its own plot, characters, and setting, but they are all united by the overarching theme of the supernatural, the paranormal, and the unknown.
As a reader, you will find yourself engrossed in the eerie and spine-tingling world that the author has created.
From trapped spirits to black magic, from kalia masaan to aghori rituals, the book is full of frightening and unsettling occurrences that will give you goosebumps.
What sets this book apart from other horror stories is the fact that the events portrayed in the book are inspired by true events. This adds an extra layer of horror to the tales, as you know that there are real-world events that are just as frightening as the ones depicted in the book.
This is a book that will stay with you long after you've finished reading it, and it is highly recommended for anyone who loves horror, paranormal, and supernatural stories.

This is a collection of five short stories and the most shocking fact is that it is inspired by true events. Divided into short stories, the setting of the novel is pan India with special focus on Shimla. The language of this book is simple and easily understandable. The cover of the book is appealing and attractive. I dont know if it’s the reading at night that’s causing it but it has definitely been spooky till now. Some parts gave me goosebumps! ********************************************************** Finished the book. Found the sinister invasion and the resurgence to be most interesting
It can be aptly identified from the cover and title that this is a horror fiction book. This book includes five creepy and scary stories which were totally thrilling to read.
According to me, most scariest one was The Sinister Invasion. In this story, a newly married couple built their own home on a land. What they didn't know was some spirits were already living there to welcome them. They did everything to protect themselves but it was not enough. The ending was unexpected.
Other stories were also equally interesting and gripping. These stories are based on true events. The narration is wonderful. The language is lucid. The writing style push us to imagine the scenes unfolding. This is totally recommended to horror genre readers but let me warn you to keep the lights on after reading them ;)
