Alpha Squad #4

Alpha Squad: Showdown: Una Serie d'Amore Paranormale (Alpha Squad Saga Vol. 4)

Rate this book
Sean McMillan has always lived a life more human than shifter. Upon joining Alpha Squad he is thrust into a whole new world which is taking some getting used to. When two shifters turn up dead under suspicious circumstances in the otherwise quiet town of Inverness, Scotland, Alpha Squad is sent in to uncover the truth. So far, so easy; murder investigations are what Sean does best. Trouble is, one of the witnesses is able to distract him just with her presence. And he can’t shake the feeling that she knows more than what she’s letting on.

Lab assistant Erin Reid thought her work at the research project led by leading Geneticist Professor Blake was benign enough, if excruciatingly boring. Little did she know that they were all embroiled in a deadly conspiracy. When she finds out what she’s been involved in, the resulting guilt weighs heavy on her and she vows to make things right.

What starts off as an ordinary murder investigation quickly turns into something bigger and more dangerous than anyone on Alpha Squad could foresee. Is shifter enemy No. 1 Victor Domnall back with a plan more devious than ever? Can Sean and the squad put all the pieces of the puzzle together before it’s too late?

A wonderful fast read. Sean is one who feels he doesn’t fit anywhere and so he joins Alpha squad. He was a good detective and here he can use his skills to help those in his world of shifters. He is a good strong character. Very smart and just trying to find where he belongs. He learns some revelations about himself in this book. He also is placed on a very fascinating case that involves two shifters who die in a quiet town. why? That is for Sean to find out and this brings him on a very fun ride. The mystery aspect has a few intriguing twists. So many things are found out and through it Sean meets the one who has him accept himself and fall in love. Erin is smart and sweet. She is wanting to use her skills to help others and instead she is in a boring project. Or is it? She suddenly due to Sean is having her world turned upside down and she is knee deep in danger and conspiracy that is deadly. The attraction between these two is palpable and you can tell distracts both of them from their job. It also enhances their focus as well in the end. Both Sean and Erin go on a journey. Sean accepts who he is and finds love and Erin figures out where she wants to be and falls in love. A fast paced story of danger, intrigue and love that is captivating from the start.

Sean holds a special place in my heart as one of the Alpha Squad members. He's not quite as sure of himself because he was brought up differently than his fellow shifters, but he's every bit as strong and focused as anyone. He has a deep sense of justice and for that reason alone he's perfect for the Squad. Erin is as sweet and lovely as they come, and she's led by her own sense of justice as well, making her a perfect mate for Sean. Together, they figure out what Domnall has planned just in time.

Theirs is a wonderful love story with instant chemistry and an intense connection that allows no secrets between them. I really enjoy this author's writing style, and the series was wrapped up with a marvelous HEA not just for our H/h couple but for the ongoing conflict that was the Alpha Squad's focus throughout the series. If you've read any of the previous Alpha Squad books, you'll be thrilled with this one. If you haven't, you'll want to one-click them all and enjoy every bit of the action from start to finish. I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book.

This was the last of the Alpha Squad adventures for us common folk. We got Sean and Erin this time around. We get to see Sean come in to his own and show what he's good at. I enjoyed watching him grow over the previous reads and now. He all grown up and knows right, wrong and justice. This mission will find that problem that has been plaguing the shifters and to a point the squad. With the help of Erin or hindrance. Just depends on how you view things. I loved getting to know both Sean and Erin. Seeing Sean in this aspects allows him to shine more.

Here we have two individuals that have a deep sense of right, wrong, and justice. The romance takes place but it is not the only thing in existence. You could feel there need to get justice for the slain
individual. It was not that they were shifters they were living beings and they deserved justice. The justice theme was strong.

I have plans to reread the entire series now that I have the last addition. Having them all in front of me and reading them back-to-back will gave me some shifter-binge-ing.

I jumped into ALPHA SQUAD: SHOWDOWN without having read the previous books. And while I didn’t miss anything and the story was totally understandable read as standalone, I felt like I have been robbed of a true shifter story. It’s been ages since I’ve last read a shifter book, so I hoped for some awesome paranormal action. Yes, I knew that Sean was only half shifter, but that there was not even one shift of him – or any other character for that matter – left me a bit disappointed. Sigh.

That being said, there’s plenty of action in this short book. Sean feels stuck between worlds – being half shifter and half human, and has always felt a bit left out. He was hoping joining Alpha Squad would change that. And it did. He makes a great detective, although a not-so subtle undercover agent, when he helps solving a mystery of two shifters dying in a small town where he meets Erin.

Erin is a smart woman working at a research project that seems rather boring. But that quickly changes when new security guards come into the picture – and she quickly realizes she might be involved in something she does not want any part of, all having to come to term with the attraction and strange connection she feels toward one of the guards…

The case is intriguing, yet a bit predictable. A story about right and wrong and justice. Of accepting of who you are.

This was the first audio book narrated by Audrey Lusk that I listened to. She protayed the characters perfectly and gave them distinct voices, which I loved. I just couldn’t really connect with the voice she gave Erin – it seemed too old for the picture of a young woman that my mind conjured for her.

3.5 Stars.

Alpha Squad #4: Showdown (A Bear Shifter Romance) by Lorelei Moone.
• Home
Please note that this the 4th and final book in the Alpha Squad series and it's a lot more fun to read this series in order. To start at the beginning, with Alpha Squad: Boot Camp.
Synopsis ~
Murder, mayhem, and an inappropriate attraction.
When she finds out what she’s been involved in, the resulting guilt weighs heavily on her and she vows to make things right and help Sean's investigation in any way she can.
What starts off as an ordinary murder investigation quickly turns into something bigger and more dangerous than anyone on Alpha Squad could foresee. Is shifter enemy No. 1, Victor Domnall, back with a plan more devious than ever? Can Sean and Erin put all the pieces of the puzzle together before it’s too late? And what about that inexplicably deep connection they've started to form ever since their first meeting?
Review ~
This story is intended for adult audiences only.
What a great way to end an amazing spinoff series! Now I can't wait to see what Lorelei come up with next. It doesn't matter what she writes or sucks you in from page one and won't let you lose until she's decided to finish the series she's working on... Always has you on the edge of your seat trying to figure out what's gonna happen next. To see what happens with the newest Alpha Squad member Sean and Erin you have to read Alpha Squad #4: Showdown. Although this could be read as a standalone story, I suggest you start from the beginning with at least Alpha Squad: Boot Camp.... If not the VERY beginning with the Scottish Werebear: An Unexpected Affair to find out where it all began... All great stories the flow into this one. This was my second book that I've listened to in the series. Once again, it's a complete standalone with guaranteed HEA.

Member of the Alpha Squad, Sean McMillan is joins looking to feel a part of something. Being half shifter and half human has always left him feeling like was stuck between two worlds. Now, with a new sense of purpose and belonging he finds himself investing a murder, but one of the key witnesses proves to be a bit of a distraction. Erin was working on a research project that wasn't what she thought it was. Now she wants nothing to do with the pretext, but can't help but feel a strange pull towards one of the new guards.

The plot was good and full of suspense and packed with action. The main characters had great chemistry and overall it was a great addition to the series.

Audrey Lusk once again delivers with a fantastic performance and dazzles with her spot-on accents! Again, my only dislike of her narration is that she sounds a bit older than the characters, but that's just me nitpicking at this point. Her performance outshines that detail and you quickly become captivated by the story and that's fast forgotten.

Who is Sean and why has he joined Alpha Squad? Who and what is Alpha Squad? What is their purpose? Why are they called in after two suspicious deaths? Who died? What did they die from? Who is Erin? What is she doing on the day we read about her for the first time? Who does she work for? What is her job with this person? When Sean and Cooper enter the building to train with Mel, a security guard, what are they really there for? What happens with Erin? That floored me. This was a book that kept me on the edge of my seat from the suspense of what is going on, yet at the same time made me chuckle and wish I could be Erin. This was one of the most interesting books I have read recently. I am really looking forward to more of the Alpha Squad in the future.

Oh Man listening to this story had me on the edge of my seat wondering what was going to happen next. Sean has lived his life like a human not like a shifter so he is used to doing human things and not shifter things. So when he joins the Alpha team he is introduced to a new world and way of living. It is not easy for him to adjust but he does because he is ready to help his team out. There are murders happening and he wants to solve them and plus he is good at solving crimes.

Sean runs into some trouble when he is investigating the crimes and he is not sure what to do about this witness. He wants to believe her but he also feels something is off about her and suspects she knows more than she is saying. Plus Seans inner shifter wants to claim this woman as his own.

Erin's research project is boring so she thinks until she finds out that her research is more than what it seems and she will have to decide whose side she is on and what she is going to do but she vows to make it right and help Sean and his team out to discover the truth.

Bear shifter Sean McMillan has just finished boot camp and joined Alpha Squad. He's not at all sure he has done the right thing. He has always lived like a human and a cop.
Erin Reid is nothing more than a low level student as far as the professor she works for is concerned. She was hoping to learn and is just doing grunt work. She has no idea what the professor is even working on.
Two unexplained shifter deaths set the Alpha Squad on their next job. Will our hero make a good team member or will he mess up?
Can our heroine resist the chance to study the shifters she comes into contact with?
Both our protagonists have a lot to learn.
This is part of a series where the main story is best read in order, but each individual book can happily be enjoyed on it's own. I have read and enjoyed each one. A marvellous series that is more than just a paranormal romance.
This is a police procedural story with the added spice from our shifters. I loved it.

Oh how I love this series by Lorelei Moone. I got hooked on
book one and cannot wait for the next. They are all so
well-written and though through the whole series is a
wonderful read.

This is Sean’s story and how he met his mate Erin. Sean is
sent to investigate two shifter deaths. That is when he meets
her. And she is amazing, she is a lab tech and has found out
there is a problem in her lab. So they team up to discover
what is going on. One night she see someone she
should not and then all kinds of stuff happens. And she is
trouble, let’s hope that Sean can help himself and her in time.

Now before I ruin this for you I will leave off here. I hope you
enjoy this book as much as I did. If you do like this book,
please consider leaving a review. The Authors really like it
when you do; they value your opinions too

Lorelei Moone is a new author for me but really loved the CSI slant on a shifter novel. Shifters have come out of the closet & are living openly with humans , unfortunately not all humans are happy with that, nothing new there some humans are never happy ,but these take it further. Alpha Squad , both shifters & humans ,are sent undercover to investigate unusual shifter deaths at a university campus .Sean , the newest recruit gets his first undercover job & is still learning what it is to be a shifter after being told to keep what he is a secret all his life . Not a straight forward murder case with a good little twist to the reasons for the deaths i can see these books turning into a good series .

I received a copy from the author via AXP; this is my honest review.
Contrary to the other books, the couple in this one didn't smell the other - a smell that would've reminded them of something pleasant in their past.
The pull was there, though. Erin moving through the Health Center without knowing where she was going or what she needed to do; Sean was being drawn to Erin, even if she acted a bit weird the first time they met.
The story is full of action, adventure, a bit of suspense, a sex scene that meant "I'm going to worship you", knowing looks from other shifters, and of course an annoying gvmt representative, and a lot of fun details.
We received a flawless conclusion to a downright great series. Five stars all around.

I absolutely loved Sean and Erin. Erin is a genuinely kind and caring person who wants to do good in her job. But unbeknownst to her she is working for a professor who is not being honest and is hiding what he is really researching. Sean is half human and half bear.. He considers himself as a human though as he was taught to hide his bear. Because of this, he doesn't know that much about being a shifter. When these two meet there is an instant and sudden attraction, but Sean doesn't know how to handle it and doesn't know about true mates. Watching their love story evolve was beautiful, all the while they are trying to solve several murders.

Another great story following the Alpha Squad! Sean and Erin were both likeable characters to read about. The story was well written and the plot was also fun. We had some action and lots of chemistry between the two with secondary characters that were just as enjoyable. Loved how this book ended. I am giving my voluntary honest review on an Arc that I received.

REVIEW
I have enjoyed this series by this author, and it's a sad day that this is the finale.
Alpha Squad may finally get their recognition.

We get a blood drive, which Lab Assistant Erin is part of. Sean is undercover as a security guard.
When Sean and Erin meet it all goes haywire.

Sean has lived his life more human because he is an anomaly. Read the story and find out more.
This was a perfect ending to a fantastic series.

If you could sum up Alpha Squad: Showdown in three words, what would they be?
Quick, Enjoyable, Fantasy

What did you like best about this story?
I like how the author makes each story unique. Certain parts of the story continues the work of a group of people solving a different mystery for each book. But it's how the author goes about solving that mystery that makes it unique. I also like the fact that we have those that accept people that are different and then we have those that don't. Just like in regular society.

Have you listened to any of Audrey Lusk’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
I have listened to all but one of the Alpha Squad series. Ms. Lusk has been a pleasure to listen to as she lets me get acquainted with this group that are trying to protect their community. I have to think of her as a narrator instead of a voice actor. In thinking of her as a narrator she becomes a storyteller. A voice actor would bring the characters to life.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?
You couldn't make a film of this book unless you made a film out all the other books in the series. Maybe a miniseries on TV would be better.

Any additional comments?
My disappointment was twofold. I was surprised how swiftly this story went by. I was hoping to keep my mind occupied as I worked out in the yard. Ms. Moone's books are very good at keeping my mind off how much hard work I have to do - makes the labor more enjoyable. My second disappointment was finding out that this was the last in the series. But the good thing is that I have one more book to listen to and then I can have an Alpha Squad marathon.

It's tough to think which characters I like the best because they are all important to the squad as a whole. I would like to think that if there shifters out there that they have someone to protect their interest. Otherwise, we may have those people that either want to experiment on them or are afraid of what they don't understand and have decided that the world would be a better place without them. Discrimination is not logical.

Will have to see what both Ms. Moone and Ms. Lusk have in store for their listeners in the future. And I'll be interested to see if they collaborate again on another series or book. But if this is the first book you're thinking of listening to please change your mind. You need to start with book one in order to understand the world that our author has created.

I have loved all of the Alpha Squad books and this one had me guessing and trying to figure things out and kept me going till the final word.

Sean is investigating a murder and he is use to that but when his witness makes his blood rush to his crotch he knows he is in for one hell of an investigation.

Erin is wanting to help Sean after what she finds out.

These two have so much going on and no time for anything,.

I am loving this one
