Broken Vows #3

Haunted Hearts

Rate this book
As it turns out, Ghosts aren't the only things that go bump in the night. Malicious warlocks do too.

Fulton thought he won. As it turns out, the game has just begun. He’s on the run and causing havoc in his wake.

Now that I’m home, it’s time to take over the family business.

My first job: stop the warlock from throwing both realms, the Living and the Dead, into irreparable chaos. Easier said than done. But I have every intention of trying and I won’t let anything stop me. Not the jealousy between my men or the new unhinged power I’ve unlocked.

Watch out Fulton, here I come.

Coming off of book two, be warned this is an adjustment. Much less action and smex, comparatively, but still a wonderful book. I highly recommend you let that sink in before you begin and also let the pace of the story determine your reading pace as well. There is quite a bit of information and lore in this one, all the questions are answered and you might miss something if you rush through it. It’s very clear that Salem makes a deliberate adjustment to the way the characters act and interact to fit the story. Which to me is an indicator of her continuing growth as a writer.

Overall I enjoyed this book, not as much as book two, I’m sorry to say but it makes for a well rounded series. My main critique would be that there were these moments when it was really cheesy/corny. Otherwise, Salem delivered another badass fmc, with an amazingly talented (👅 😉)harem, and one really creative and cool fantasy world. I think that’s one thing you can for sure appreciate in this book. The magic, the creatures, the lore was really interesting and different (at least to me). I can’t wait to have these bad boys on my shelf.

DNF @ 53% p218/418 Chapter 21(Willow)
Sooo…remember how I said I’d come back to this?
Yeah. I Knew I shouldn’t have put it down when I was actually enjoying it.
Now I have no interest in picking it back up🥺
Which sucks. Because I was actually really liking everything happening.
The characters, the plot, the sex, the cool powers, the really cool setting.
Plus things were heating up with the newest relationship.
And now I’ve had it on the back burner for so long I just can’t make myself pick it back up and finish it.
😩
Someone remind me.
I should never close a book and move on if I’m actually enjoying it. It just ruins all the feels for me.
Now I’m kinda sad.
*sigh*
Oh well, I guess.
I’ll check out what else this author has out later. I did really enjoy the writing.

a new fan

I’m just a black woman who took a chance on a new to me author who wasn’t into the multiple partner and monster sex genre, clearly because I don’t even know what the genre is called. Don’t get me wrong, I enjoy paranormal romance. So anyway, my chance was beyond worth it! The series had enough action and suspense to keep me on the edge of my seat, enough romance to give me all the feels, a lot of sex to keep me curious and squirming in my seat, and an original story that I could sink my teeth into.
As with all of the books this one was no exception. I found myself staying up late to read, taking every available moment to read, I pissed my mom off at lunch because I was eating and reading and did not engage, lol.
This book gave me what I needed - revenge!!!!!!! Oh and how sweet it was! I was just as much of a blood thirsty maniacal monster as the Willow and the crew! I don’t want to give anything away - just know I loved how all of her men had her back, they listened to her, took care of her, respected her, supported her leadership, loved and adored her. Them mad a unit grew in maturity and respect as well considering they all wanted a piece of the pie. It was wonderful to read about. Her love for them was beautiful as well. Not even in death do they part!
Phenomenal read and I’m a new fan of Salem Cross, jury is still out on the other authors in the genre.

Haunted Hearts was a beautiful conclusion of the Broken Vows series, one that took me for a crazy ride. Brock, who is one sexy reaper, has been trapped on the over side of the veil for the last five years and he happens to be Willow’s mate. Our girl has an uncomfortable start in this book. She gets kidnapped by Fulton and starts a process of stealing her blood. Kwik has to kill Willow to end it all. Unfortunately Fulton has escaped to the living realm. While he is over there Willow is learning the full extent to her magic and how to anchor herself in the death realm. Especially since she keeps fading or she turns into black smoke.
We have trouble within Willow’s mates. Brock and Theo have major issues with each other. Mostly Brock blaming Theo for everything that has happened to Willow. Even to the point he tries to make her choose and of course, Willow lives by her own rules and you will not tell her what to do.
Willows goes to the Fae to show them that the brotherhood is corrupt and that they have been killing realms. Willow FINALLY gets to hunt down Fulton and kill him. Fulton gets to spend his eternity in agony. Willow and her mates get their happy ending that they deserve.
All and all, I loved this book. Salem has become one of my favorite authors; from her beautiful world building and character development to her delicious spicy scenes and on the edge of your seat action. She is a very talented writer and this whole series I am glad that I read it all. Not a single book in this series was not amazing. Highly recommend this whole series and can’t help but want to tell more people about it.

Meh, This One Didn't Do it for Me

*****Spoilers*****

I found this one in the series to be too much but at the same time not enough. There was a lot of time spent on Willow and whatever transformation she underwent in the realm of the Dead. But not enough about the realm, how they're living maybe as spirits or something?, how Fulton was able to do the stuff he did or really even a forecast for what he would do later. Much too big a chunk is spent without Willow as we get introductions to other characters, only for it to spin right back to how Fulton needs to be taken care of. Just didn't feel genuine and especially not how easily the fae caved to Willow's threats. No matter if they didn't know the elders were responsible for making them so long lived, I'd expect more of a rebellion. The relationships between Willow plus men is okay but Brock's addition as well as whatever animosity he had toward Theo was resolved much more easily than reasonable, it might as well have not been included. Actually, there are several things about this book I would similarly qualify.

In any case, I couldn't enjoy the writing style and I'm not sure if it's just the length of time between reading the last book and this one, but I felt that the book could use better descriptions and word choice.

This is the conclusion of the series and it took me for a wild ride. Brock enters the picture he is the reaper who has been on the other side of the veil the last five years and Willows mate. Things don’t start off well Willow is taken by Fulton and he connects her to a tree that steals her blood but keeps her alive. In the end Kwil has to kill her to get it to stop and Fulton escapes to the living realm. Willow is stuck having to learn the full extent of her magic and learn how to anchor herself in the death realm since she keeps disappearing or turning into black smoke. Brock and Theo have to work through their issues since Brock blames him for everything that has happened to Willow and try’s to make her choose between them. Which if you know anything about Willow she makes her own rules. Things come to a head when she goes to the Fae to show them that the brotherhood is corrupt and has been killing off realms all this time and once she is done with them she goes for Fulton. Finally, she is able to kill him and his eternity is going to be spent in agony. She gets her HEA with her men so things end well.

Ok, I give this series a 3.5-4 stars.

I actually really enjoyed the book and the concepts. I liked most of the men and how they eventually came together (Terribly, I had my slasher goggles on especially with Jonah. He definitely seems the type to be dtf however with the harem and Willow. Especially if it's something Willow would find fun.)

There's a lot of moving parts in this, but you know it works mostly. The Restrictions made it necessary to work around things so the ending resolution was pretty interesting honestly. Even if I wish there was a little more fight there, it's still nice to see the villain get what's coming to him.

I think I primarily liked this trilogy because it's funny at the right times and I like Willow's attitude about sex a bit in the sense that she's not always talking about it. Instead she does and entices others. Owning that through showing it and not just talking about it endlessly.

So, yeah, I liked it over all.

I think the only Drawback (unless I missed it) is her conversation with her Mother. And while I would've loved to have seen Theo's family, I know it's not necessary but it would've been nice.

Final Battle

This is the third book and the conclusion of the Broken Vows trilogy. This book has a lot of things going on from Death, Willows father tasking all of the guys with having to ground Willow in the realm of Death. They must use their soul bond to keep her tethered to them and in the present.
We finally meet her Reaper, Brock, who is also her mate. The other's must learn to play and share with him. There are funny moments while they are all getting used to being in the realm of the dead.
This book is also very spicy due to all of the group scenes. Even though they are dealing with some very heavy topics of Death Magic, they still find time to have some very spicy times together. It's really funny when her father Death walks in on them.
They deal with Fulton, the Brotherhood and Willow comes to terms with all the power she has in the realm of the dead. She is much more powerful than she was when she was alive.
The author really did a great job of pulling everything together in this last book.

What a FINALE!!! Willow and her mates went through so much since book 1. It has been a long hard road for Willow and the guys and that was before the addition to her 5th and final mate. Willow remained a complete sweetheart throughout this ENTIRE SERIES which did not take away from her BadA$$ery. This was one FMC that was NEVER a damsel in distress.

I love how her relationship with Viktor and Theo grew because they were the ones who treated her the worst in Book 1. Kwil continued to make amends for his mistakes and Jonah has been her RIDE or DI3 since book 1. Jonah was the absolute BEST mate. Willow accepted the good and bad with her men and in return her mates followed her into the afterlife to stand and fight alongside her in restoring order in the Realms of the Living and the Ream of the Dead. As well as helping Willow to understand and control her newly developed power.

I am so sad this series is over. This is by far ONE of the BEST Paranormal Reverse Harem stories of 2022. I will definitely re read this series over and over again.

This is my favorite of all 3 books and this series in whole broke me out of a reading slump.

5/5 smut stars. 6-some? KINKY

We have a lot of craziness going on here.
Rescues

More danger

Revenge

Betrayal

A new “player” on the scene for Willow’s heart

Willow’s dad finally being able to be with her and teach her

Willow learning to use her power without the previous rules she had to follow

More missing reapers and souls

More disgusting Elders

All of it melded together beautifully. There’s a lot of mixed reviews when it comes to this series, and while a few of the guys actions were questionable in the beginning, I came to love all of them. I personally loved this entire series and wish I could read it for the first time all over again. I’ve hardly done anything but read for 3 days because I’ve been so enveloped in this story as it progressed. I personally think the writing was done very well, the worlds were developed well, and the characters were created beautifully. I only wish we had some fan art.

I took me longer than normal to read this book, but that was purely due to the fact that I don't want this series to end!

Like the other books this story is fast paced and full off action! I love Willow and her boys and how intune they all are with each other. There are some serious relationship goals going on there!

Ive been itching to meet Willows reaper since the first book, and Brock did not disappoint!

The world building, yet again was beautifully done, and I love how when anything dies in the realm of the living, it gets to experience it's second life in the realm of the dead, and that fact that, that isn't just limited to people? I think it's a beautiful concept!

All in all it was yet another fun read, and a brilliant conclusion to the story!

Willow has her hands full between chasing after Fulton, trying to keep the land of the Living and Dead separated and out of chaos, and keeping the men she loves from killing each other over jealousy. Not to mention she has a new power that might be a little chaotic to use.

There is not as much action or steamy scenes in this book as compared to book two, so be prepared for that to slow down. However, the amount of detail you get with the myths and lore in this one make up for it. We are finally getting some answers on questions we've been asking, and we're really getting an understanding on what Willow and the Ghosts worlds really are about.

I loved the addition of Reaper to Willow's harem, and felt like he added a little more tension to make the other guys sweat a little. The jealousy is crazy, but it's not the maniacal kind which was nice to read.

Haunted Hearts is a wonderful ending to the Broken Vows trilogy by Salem Cross.

💜 sassy, smart, take no 💩 FMC
💜 why choose
💜 new powers
💜new rules
💜 new friends
💜 🌶🌶🌶 spicy time
Willow is our sassy, smart, strong take no 💩 FMC. She has powers that others are after. This book picks up where the last book left off. People scattered into different places. They need to get back to each other and defeat Fulton before he becomes too powerful.

Can the guys get back to Willow? Can Jonah get to Willow? What about Willow’s reaper? Will he be helpful or hurtful in finding Willow and bringing down Fulton?

This was a great series. I enjoyed it every step of the way. I loved how open Willow was of others and her love showed no bounds. She s was fiercely independent, but would never hesitate to defend those she loves and those that are vulnerable.

Do yourself a favor and check this series out. You won’t be disappointed.

Welcome to the other side…. The Realm of the Dead

It’s time for the final chapter of this trilogy! After being left with a cliffhanger in Woven Souls, I was eager to jump into this story to see where things led. 100% not disappointed!!! THis has adventure, smut and monsters galore in an all new setting.

One very large perk of being dead, Willow can now meet her reaper who has been stalking her thru the veil for several years. However, the three former ghosts, the tracker and the reaper will need to work thru their issues with each other as well as their past lives in order to become a cohesive family unit with Willow, and she must learn how to control her powers and keep the realm balanced in order to track down Fulton.

This is the perfect wrap up for this series. Well done!

Rating : ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

This is the final book in an amazing trilogy ! It picks up right where we left in book 2. I was eager to come back in Willow’s world and was not disappointed at all !!! I absolutely loved the worldbuilding around the Realm of the Dead.

This book is fast-paced and full of action. The smut is less present in this book but the story keeps getting better. I absolutely love all the characters’ growth and how they all learn to live and work together as a team. Their relationship meets a turning point in this book with Brock’s arrival. I love Willow and all her men but Kwil remains my favorite with Jonah.

Salem wrote the perfect ending for an intriguing story. Everything is wrapped up beautifully.

After the crazy cliffhanger of Woven Souls, I was so amped to get my hands on the final book. Just like Salem’s other amazing books, I was not disappointed, I just wish we had more time with Willow and her men. There’s 🥵, monsters, adventure and sooo much more!

Willow can now meet her reaper, the one who’s been stalking her through the veil for years. Her three lovers, Viktor, Jonah, Theo will have to come to terms with Brock. I liked that they all had their own things to come to terms with when the dynamic changed.

Salem created a beautiful world, well two worlds, living & 💀. And the livings life isn’t actually over, they get a second chance. Super interesting concept and I loved it.

I hope we get to see these characters in the future, would love to see how they all evolve further down the road.

Absolutely amazing!!!

Though Book 2 remains my favorite, Book 3 brings it all home.

There is definite tonal change here. While I wouldn’t say the book slows down (because I wasn’t bored at any point), there is a lot of information to process.

*SLIGHT SPOILER*

New Realm, New Rules, New Willow

The relationships are still fantastic and truly the anchor of the book.

My only qualm, and I know this would just make the books HELLA long, but I wish there was more world-building. We sort of remain in one corner of this magic system and I wanted a little more of it, maybe even the Fae world as well.

I also would have loved a little more action, but it was still a trip reading about Willow going from a badass to an even bigger badass.

I will say though, Theo is BAE. Change my mind. You won’t.

A wonderful way to end this trilogy!

just okay

This book felt different. Almost like a completely different book from the first two. I think because so many new things were introduced in the last installment. Willow is now in the possession of the wrong hands. The guys have to save her and put the pieces back together. Once that’s done, everyone is having to learn their new existence. I really didn’t see this book happening this way. I thought in some miraculous way, they’d be in the Realm of the Living. I wish we got to meet her mom. I kind of miss Willow doing normal things like cooking. I could’ve done without the scythe scene. Did the Realm take her away as a punishment for taking souls?

When Death speaks, his words were italicized but sometimes a word or two wouldn’t be. A few misspelled words. Wrong words used and missing words here and there.

What a great end to the series!

I have been obsessed with the series since the beginning. We have a why choose with 4 men and 1 woman. Is there room for one more 😉😉 Hell Yes!!

Now that they are all dead. Willow and her men are living in the dead realm trying to figure out how to deal with Fulton. They now have the help from Willow’s Reaper.

This book draws you in and makes you want more. Am I sad the series is over yes. But Salem Cross did amazing. I was not only drawn into the smut but the plot is so fell woven into the story you want to know what is going on.

The smut is amazing! Salem knows how to write the spice. I do feel like the ending was rushed but overall a great book.

There is a consented non consent / primal play. Chapter 35 👩🏼‍🍳💋

Girllll!!!! 😍

Let me just say I love an author that knows how to mix things up and challenge your morals. Plus do you know how relieved I am to have more than one black main character throughout the book… ohh and I also loved how I was drawn in to men without fully knowing what they looked like.. most books glamorize or mention he skin tone before anything’s else which I hate at times so good job.

I was hooked since the first book which I started reading Tuesday it’s not Friday and after reading the last book I desperately crave more. Although, I seriously neglected some of my duties because I was so stuck in the series.. 🤷🏽‍♀️..

You’re writing style is effortless, it flowed really well. And there was barely of any errors.. I so into the damn series that I can’t even remember.. Chefs kiss 😘 I will be reading more from this author

Fantastic from beginning to end!

This series was absolutely phenomenal from start to finish! Broken Vows had me so hooked that I binged books 1-3 in 24 hours… And the lack of sleep was well worth it!

This is the first series I’ve read by Salem Cross but it certainly won’t be the last. I’ve honestly been struggling with a reading slump for months and have been barely able to finish standalones so me going from that to binge reading this entire trilogy should tell you what a fantastic storyline this series has… and don’t get me started on those amazing characters!

If you’re a paranormal why choose romance addict you definitely need to add Broken Vows to your reading list. Trust me when I say you won’t be disappointed, and you can thank me later!

Meh

I've loved this series... Until this book. I don't know what happened, but the author lost my attention. It took me a week to get through it, and it rarely takes me that long to get through a book. I've tried to pinpoint what made me lose interest. My conclusion is that this book seemed like filler. There was nothing wrong with the plot. I liked it. But this book seemed to be nothing but sex with a side of story. I have no problem reading sex scenes, but in this case it seemed like the ratio of sex to story was out of balance.

I loved the characters in this series. I thought Willow was fabulous! I definitely recommend this series. Just be prepared for the last book to throw you off a bit.

Hauntingly Wonderful

I absolutely love this ending! Not only were the characters amazing but the storyline was wonderful to follow. I love that this book tied everything up well. Willow and her men are amazing and their defeat of F is absolutely awesome. I love the ending especially Salem has amazing humor that really enraptured the reader throughout her books! Kwil, Theo, Viktor, Brock, and Jonah sound like my dream harem! Though definitely some kinks had to be worked out early on in this book, they came together in the end! I definitely recommend not only this series but Salem’s books! The story telling is amazing and her writing draws the reader in!

In this final book, Salem has done an amazing job of moving the story from the Realm of the Living to the Realm of the Dead in a seamless transition that felt natural.

I can say absolutely nothing negative in anyway about this book, or even series. With this final book, all loose ends were tied; all questions were answered; character arcs were completed; and the story was wrapped up tight with a bow. This book gives the reader everything they wanted from the story and plot line while staying true to the story and characters.

I loved every minute of this series and will be revisiting it again and again.

Wonderfully done! I have been waiting to meet the reaper this whole time and thought he would end up being my favorite from all the build up. His character didn’t disappoint but Jonah still steals my heart. Beautifully wrapped conclusion, the only thing missing for me was a bit more of her mom in this series to tie it all together. I loved the way the relationships wound together and the journey they took. What a poetic conclusion for a vile mage. Loved this book as much as the first in the series.

✨ARC REVIEW✨

This entire trilogy is one of my favorites! The chemistry between Willow and her guys is palpable! I have enjoyed the character growth between all of them and the banter that ensued between the guys. Now, without giving too much away, there is a scene towards the end of the book that had my jaw dropping and me fanning myself. Let me tell you, I was here for EVERY second of that scene!! The ending to this trilogy is perfect! Not only will it forever live rent free in my head, I will also be forever recommending it!

In this third book of the broken vows series, we dive more into the realm of the dead and get to know more about Brock, Willows other soulmate. This book was a joy to read from start to finish, in fact the whole series was. I found myself so engrossed in the characters and fully enjoying the banter between Willow and her men. If your looking for a good series to jump into than I would recommend the Broken Vows series. Please know this is a reverse harem book and there are sexy times, but that’s just the bells and whistles, the story that unfolds over the 3 book series is fantastic!
