The first adventure in a brand new Mountain Man series from Ash Lingam!
Levi Beaver Johnson was born and raised in the outback of southeastern Indiana near the Ohio River early in the 1800s. As a youth, he was such a good outdoorsman the locals called him Trapper Boy. He was the best shot in the state and was such a good trapper that he fashioned many traps of his own design.
After waiting his whole youth for the moment to set out to become the mountain man of his dreams, he headed west toward an unknown future.
Fate took Levi to the frontier forts in Kansas, and he signed on as an army scout to fund his adventure. Would the young mountain man make it to Colorado and eventually to the Pacific Ocean, or would his plan be derailed along the way?
Ash Lingam was born and raised in Southern Ohio, not far from the mighty Ohio River. He had somewhat of an isolated upbringing on a family farm with his sisters. His best friends were his horse, Sugar, and his grandfather. Born in 1886, the family patriarch grew crops, raised cattle, and doted on the young boy. At his grandfather’s side, Ash learned about livestock and firearms at an early age. His grandad carried an old Colt with him at all times, helping spawn a young boy’s dreams of yesteryear. Ash was only eight years old when his grandad taught him how to trap muskrats to prevent them from draining the farm’s ponds. He gave him a double-barreled shotgun at twelve and taught him how to hunt to put food on the table. It wasn’t long before Ash was breaking horses. His spirited Tennessee Walker never allowed any other rider on her back. Together, they searched through the plowed fields in the spring, looking for Miami Indian arrowheads to add to his grandfather’s ample collection. Ash’s family was among the early settlers in pre-Revolutionary America. He has traced his lineage back to around 1746 when his ancestors immigrated from Europe to the aspiring American Colonies. A retired marketing executive, Ash devotes his spare time to training police dogs and writing novels. He has found his niche in the Western, historical fiction, and adventure genres. With his vast vault of experience, he never runs out of sources for new stories. He has lived in eleven different countries and worked in a total of forty-six, To date, Ash has written approximately 130 novels, short stories, and poems. More than one hundred of his eclectic titles help the American frontier come alive for his readers.
He headed west to begin his life with just him, his rifle, and a huge dream in his head.

Nice book, the westward expansion post 1820. As forts are established the move Carrie’s Beaver Johnson from Indians to the west of the Mississippi. One thing about Lingam, he is detail oriented. No repeating rifles of six guns in these books. A joy to read.
Great story and well worth the read. Lots of action and adventure as Levi Beaver Johnson leaves his home as a youth to head out to the western frontier in hopes of becoming a mountain man. It was a well written story that was hard to put down and one that I would definitely recommend!
I enjoyed the description of the surroundings. I also enjoyed knowing what a mountain man might have smelled and looked like, lol. It was a god story that tugged at my heartstrings. I only wish that there might of been a more female presence. Not romance but a rival or friend.
Levi Johnson always dreamed of going West and becoming a mountain man. He left his Southern Indiana home and started on the adventure of a lifetime. First book in the series enjoyable read.
Levi most certainly proved that he would and could become a prime example of not only as a human being, but also a prime example of what adventures early settlers became! Looking forward to more prose of early pioneers who tamed the West!
As a new reader to this author let me put it this way: I'm on a fixed income but I bought the rest of the series. I know I will read them again and again.
Reading Levi Johnson: Mountain Man, was like reading one of the stories written by Zane Gray or Max Brand, great Western storytellers. Levi (Beaver) Johnson dreamed of being a mountain man from his youth so this is the beginning of his adventures. Lingam gives us a glimpse into the trials and hardships that men had to endure as they traveled west. Looking forward to more of Beaver Johnson's adventures!
