Honestly, my memory of this novella is really hazy, but I recall reading it soon after I'd finished The Great Gatsby, which worked really well for me since I was already sort of immersed in this time period. Some parts of this novella were really good:
However, there was some dialogue that really watered down the experience for me. I believe it was in attempt to make the characters' dialogue align with the time period, but I just found it to be unbearably cringey and ill-fitting.
Everybody look to the left...everybody look to the right. I'd definitely be laughing if someone said that to me during sex, but more likely I'd be packing up and leaving. And I think this generally lends to my point that the interactions between characters were a little too serious for my taste. Although I can't deny that I love a well-built up scene of tension, I felt this book was lacking a lightness or...smiley-giggley quality. Lastly, this type of dialogue didn't work for me either...
Maybe it's a personal thing, but I just find this to be awkward and uncharming. Still though, I remember there being flowers (?), which were cute, and I did like the plotline and the sex. I haven't actually read any of this author's work yet, so this was me dipping my toes. For now, I can see that some parts of her work will work for me and others won't, but only time will tell!
We do need more steamy sapphic novellas though, so props to this one for existing 🤭. I also think the cover is really stinkin cute!

Cora’s face went unexpectedly, unusually soft. She kissed Alice’s cheek very gently. “No, Alice. I won’t let it.” Another kiss. “You’ve taken three of my fingers. I promise you can handle this. And you’ll like it.”

Never forget that Roslyn Sinclair’s words could start a fire during a polar vortex. Smoking hot novella. Age gap, rich businesswoman and her beautiful dance hall gal, 1920’s. I hope that the author intends to continue their story.

Well, s***, the reviews aren't lying, ladies. This was really good for such a short and steamy read. Normally, with that much steaminess, I don't expect much by way of character depth or story, but this short read certainly delivers in those departments as well.
Loved Alice and Cora, loved the development of their relationship and their antics together, and adored the historical setting and the way the writing really conformed to that period! I thought the steaminess had a bit of extra sizzle with the added novelty, taboo, and illegality of women being together which Sinclair really leaned into in her writing.

5 stars. Sinclair is just so damn talented. This novella was so addictive and once I started it I couldn’t put my kindle down until I finished it and it left me wanting more of these characters. I am nothing if not a whore for an Ice Queen so Cora was everything to me. She’s frosty as hell in the beginning and I swooned so hard over her and how she pushed Alice’s buttons. Alice gave just as good as she got (double entendre intended) and I loved that she knew how to go toe to toe with Cora and hold her own. Their chemistry was sizzling and super sexy. Such a good read. Well written, sexy as hell, and likable characters.

A riveting and steamy read with great characters and depth despite it being so short. I wish it just kept going, I would've gladly read 300 more pages of Alice and Cora's story.

Oh, wow. Well, it vaguely reminded me of The Seduction of Moxie (a good thing) from its setting, so I wss already intrigued. This is hot. This is worth the read. I could have read an entire novel of it. Rosyln Sinclair is such a captivating writer and the sexy scenes are detailed and delicious. Mrs. Carter-Price gave me a small, teeny tiny ick feeling that I can't quite pin down. I may need to *ahem* read this again to see if it's just a mood I'm in. 4.5 stars!

OH MY GOD???? WOW.
I am not usually a novella fan, but I’ll still read them, but this…Omg. Words cannot describe how good this book was. It was short, but you could steal feel the connections of the characters and nothing felt rushed or fake. Cora was definitely my favourite character because she was respectable (so was Alice) and cold.
Read this in one sitting. The writing is so captivating and addicting. Had my hand over my mouth sometimes because this book really plays with your emotions and it’s so good.
I’m not surprised how good this book was because I’ve read Sinclair’s writing before and absolutely loved it.

I am here for anything Roslyn because wow, her work is magnificent.
The only word I can think of is transcendence.

My goodness Roslyn Sinclair does not miss. I absolutely enjoyed this one and wish it were longer. I'd have loved to explore more of Cora and Alice's relationship.
It's written really well, the plot is very interesting, and the characters have such brilliant chemistry. All in all, a very good read!

It was about the devotion, the attention, the…whatever it was that made somebody want to be near you, even if they didn’t want anything else.
4.5 stars. Help! This might have scrambled my brain. Super sexy little novella about a Jazz Age dancer who catches the eye of a wealthy older businesswoman. It's short, but Sinclair writes so much heart and personality into these characters, I had hearts in my eyes from the third page. I loved Alice, who is so fiery and strong and totally in control, ready to go after what she wants. I loved the description of her dances, and how she throws herself into them. And Cora is a complete dream. I don't think I've ever put "ice queen" and "service top" in the same sentence before, but now... whew. Listen, this was so good. The smut, yes, but also the desperation and longing behind the romance, the theme of how good it feels to be both watched and seen... I just fell head over heels for this little novella.

Socialite falls in love/in lust with a flapper. Since it’s 1920’s homosexuality is illegal.
This could have been sooo much more. The author could have easily built on this and made it into a full on novel. I was intrigued by the sex toy ngl. Also did not expect so much sex. Either naïveté or just missed the banner from the author’s site that basically said, author writes spicy. In a more sophisticated way of course.

I hope there comes a time where technology has advanced to such a degree where I can combine all of Roslyn's Ice Queens and make up my perfect woman - they're all so swoon worthy.
