Wisper Dreams #3

Mountains Divide Us

Rate this book
Sheriff’s Deputy Frank Sims has had his eye on the spunky new librarian since she stepped foot in the stacks, but the grump’s not much of a talker, just ask him—he won’t answer. Plus, there’s a glaring age gap between them, and everybody in their small town seems to have an opinion about it, but he couldn’t care less about gossip.

Until it’s his name on Samantha’s lips.

Sam Russo loves the rural ranch town she spent summers in as a kid, and when she moves there to take a job at the library, it feels like home. Now, while she can admire the good deputy’s boulder-like shoulders, thick, tousled gray hair, and the secret smile he gives her that’s as warm as sunshine on a cold spring day, she’s trying to keep her distance.

What would an older man like Frank Sims want with her anyway?

Frank dreams of something Sam can’t give him, and that sets them apart more than any age difference. A compromise could solve the problem—if they can keep their hands off each other long enough to see it.

The third book in the Wisper Dreams series is a warm-hearted small-town Western romance about the sexiness of give and take and learning to accept the love and family you’ve been dreaming about when it shows up in the most unlikely of places.

Reread and still loved it.
And if you’re curious,it’s currently free!😎

When i heard Greta Rose West was going back to Wisper,i jumped with joy.
Because there are so many people in that town that i’ve grown to love, and having a chance to catch up is one i don’t want to miss.
It started with the Cade brothers, and they introduced me to their friends, who are just as wonderful.
This time it’s the town librarian,Samantha that gets to know deputy Frank more intimately, and i’ve been waiting for their story.

Sam liked being in Wisper, and with her love of books, being the town’s librarian was something she enjoyed.
But the town’s deputy…..he was something else,entirely!
Frank may have been older,but he looked damn good,and a girl couldn’t help,but dream…right?
If only he gave her more than the few words she got out of him the times they spoke….
Her new friends in the book club she started may try to offer her advice on what to do,but getting to know him….that alone was hard enough!
As soon as she asked about his past,he reverted back to short answers, and it got her nowhere.
Until, thinking back, she found she knew more than she thought….
He was kind,he was honest,he had the most beautiful smile,he always took really good care of her,and he had the cutest dog.
Even the age-gap didn’t seem to matter anymore.
But he had something he said he wanted that she knew he’d have to find elsewhere…..

Frank’s days always looked better after he saw the town librarian,Samantha on his Tuesday lunch break.
She had a way about her that drew him in. But her beauty left him tongue-tied most of the time, while all he wanted to do,was ask her out on a date.
Until his new dog “helped” him out….and she agreed to go to dinner with him.
He knew he all had to do,was show his sweet sunny girl how good they were together.
And that he was the perfect man for her.
If only he knew what was holding her back….

These two really needed time to get to know eachother.
Sam initially worried the age-gap would be a problem, but Frank proved her wrong, time and time again.
But there still was this other issue, one that really had her worried….
Would that be the breaking point?
And why was he reluctant to talk to his foster parents?

In the meantime, there was a boy out in the cold.
A boy that did his best to stay hidden, but obviously needed help….
Would they find him in time?

Sam and Frank were made for eachother.
Even with a gap of 19 years between them, they still had a chemistry that was beautiful to watch. His determination to show her how well they fit together,to make sure she was always safe and well cared for.
His satisfaction when he did something to make her feel good.
Her need for his strenght, his calm demeanor, his smile.
And her need for him to have what he needed to be happy…..
It showed how much these two loved eachother, even before they acknowledged it themselves.

And that is Greta Rose’s strenght….
She gives you all the feels, all the doubts, the smiles, the growing love.
She takes her people by the hand and shows them the way with so much care,so much love,to where they need to be.
To be with them,on that journey,to witness their road to happiness,it’s so wonderful,i don’t have words for it….

All i need to know now,is what’s up with Abey??
Greta Rose?? Can you tell me??? Please??

Being with Sam and Frank, ahead of others was a privilege, and i feel honored Greta Rose was so eager to show me how they found their way.
Theirs was a story that made me feel the sun had come out on a grey winter’s day just for me.

Mountains Divide Us is the third book in the Wisper Dreams series and could be read as a standalone but is best read when you've read them in order since so many past characters make appearances and it's SO fun. I loved seeing our beloved Cade family. Like every beautiful story Greta has written, this too made me experience the whole gamut of human emotion.

Mountains Divide Us was a sexy age gap romance that was a little lighter than previous stories Greta has written. However, it didn't lack heat and heart and the realities that life throws our way. Frank and Sam may be years apart but their differences is what makes their love so captivating.

"You're lucky; you got grumpy sunshine and age gap all in one guy. You're a walking romance novel"

Frank throws off some major daddy vibes in the most delicious way. He's confident, possessive, and takes charge of every situation in such a subtly domineering way. Despite his past and the emotional trauma that came with that, he knows what he wants and goes after it. He knows his mind and acknowledges his attraction to Sam without trying to constantly come up with bogus reasons why he shouldn't go for it. What do I love most about Frank? His grumpy disposition of course. His character was so well written and developed that you'll either be fanning yourself or swooning.

"If we're doing this, you better have some idea of why you want me, 'cause once you're mine, I ain't letting go."

Sam was vibrant and the sunshine to Frank's grump. Her personal trauma was heartbreaking but I adored that she didn't let it break her. She was a tougher nut to crack in terms of a future with Frank but it wasn't for a lack of chemistry and connection. Sam had a kind heart and I loved seeing how much she grew.

I would classify Mountains Divide Us as a slow burn. Frank is generous with giving but didn't take at first which I understood given Sam's hesitancy to a future and he wasn't willing to get his heart broken again. That being said, I would have liked their give and take to have been equal sooner. Focusing on Sam initially took away a little bit of intimacy and connection for me. They more than made up for it later though so I can't complain too much. Greta writes incredible steamy scenes that are rooted in passion.

The romance was wonderful and the plot that went alongside their blossoming relationship was meaningful and heartwarming. It fit the story really well and I loved the culmination of it all. I loved being back in Wisper and can't wait for Abey's story because she intrigues the heck out of me. Greta, please don't stop writing in this world.

Loved it! Another beautiful story in the Whisper Dreams series.

I loved Deputy Frank Sims. He was sweet and grumbly, but he knew what he wanted, and he went after it. Jack will always be my favorite, but Frank is a very close second. Frank and Samantha were both strong characters. I loved how feisty Sam was and how she took time to think about the challenges of the age difference instead of glossing over it. They each had sad and heartbreaking things in their past to work through. They were both stubborn and slow to work through them, but they eventually got there.

Grumbly, the dog. Loved him and how he got his name, lol.

I don't think I have read an age gap romance that has focused so much on the age gap. I actually liked that, though, because it's more realistic. It was super frustrating that everyone kept calling him so old all the time. Mostly because I'm also going to turn 49 this year, and I don't think it's that old, lol.

I would say this is a slow burn. I'm not a fan of just the woman being taken care of and not the guy, but I understood why it happened the first time. It just happened too many times. That was frustrating, but it was worth it when it finally happened. One thing I love about Greta's books is how well she writes the steam.

I really love the town of Whisper that she has built and all of the townsfolk. You can easily read this book on its own. But it's fun to catch up with a lot of the characters from both this series and the Cade Ranch series. I look forward to more books in this series and this town.

Dear Goodreads: Excuse me, but I need a TON more stars!! Five stars are simply not enough to properly rate this incredibly amazing book…Frank and Samantha deserve way more!!

Seriously, I don’t know how Greta Rose West manages to turn out such fantastic books one after the other…but I hope she never stops! Mountains Divide Us is her third book in the Wisper Dreams series—and you’re going to need a ton of tissues and lots of iced drinks to get through this one. You’ll laugh until your sides hurt; you’ll cry as if your heart is being ripped from your chest; you’ll sob like no tomorrow will be able to fix your broken heart. This book has all the feels—and then some!

Believe me when I tell you that the storyline is beyond incredible; the characters are so well developed—and defined; the plot twists and turns are excellent; and that truly wonderful HEA makes the entire story a very compelling read. You absolutely must grab a copy of this book as quickly as possible. You will be so glad you did. There’s just something about finding love against all odds…this book will stay with you long after the finish. (I voluntarily reviewed an advance reader copy of this book and was totally blown away, so get your copy today!) ❤️❤️❤️

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐❤️🔥 I was so excited to go back to Wisper! Greta writes the most beautiful stories that make me wish to live inside her books. This is the 3rd book in the Wisper Dreams series, and I loved it just as much as every other book Greta has written. Frank and Sam's book is an age gap romance that made me smile, laugh, cry, and hold my breath waiting to see what happens. Frank is a deputy in the small town of Wisper, who falls for Samantha the new librarian who is much younger than him. I love that every book includes some of the wonderful characters from previous books in this series and from her Cade Ranch series. I recommend reading her Cade Ranch series also. I can't wait to read the next book in this series!

Loved it!! You can’t help but fall for all the characters in Wisper. Sam and Frank remind us all to never give up on our dreams. The chemistry between them was awesome and who doesn’t love a grumbly, gruff rule follower being taken down by a quirky, free spirited librarian?

Greta Rose West is a masterful storyteller, and her Whisper is a town of dreams. The sweet and hot kind that curl your toes. I love the story and characters, but my absolute favorite part of this book is the female to female friendships and support system.

Greta has written another great story. Frank & Sam’s road to love was interesting as all Greta’s love stories in this series. As always, can’t wait until the next story.

This book is proof that just because there’s a little dust on the bottle it doesn’t mean that what’s inside isn’t PRIME! The love between Sam and Frank is unexpected but HOT, HOT, HOT!
Greta has such a talent for getting into the heads and hearts of her characters that they become alive on the pages. The whole cast of Wisper feels like good friends.
I have never been disappointed in Greta’s books and this one is certainly not an exception.
If you are looking for something to warm up your nights look no further than “Mountains Divide Us”. R. K. Carulli

Loved it loved it loved it!! Greta did it again!! I just love the small town life that is Wisper and it was so great to get to check back in with some of the characters from past books!!

Loved the dynamic with Frank and Sam!! I love that it took so long for them to get together and when they did….just wow!! I usually don’t love age gap books but this one was great!! I think because it was more realistic and they talked about what normal people would have concerns about in that type of relationship….I know that’s all I would be thinking about!! Both of their back stories are heartbreaking and I loved that they found the family and love with each other they both were so desperate to find!!

Another great Greta Rose West book!!! Can’t wait for what’s to come next!!!

***** 5 Hot Stars*****
This series is one of the best ones I’ve read so far. I loved Frank and Sam’s story these two are like night and day but are made for each other. Sam age 29 is Wisper new implant and librarian and Frank age 48 and is a deputy in town. Frank finally finishes his home and decides to add books to home but want to do some researcher at the library to see what he likes first. Frank becomes intrigue by Sam but his age puts some doubt in his mind. Sam is very attracted to Frank but not sure how things would work between with such an age difference. I’m leaving so many things out these two story is a hard one but when they finally make on the other side it’s clear as day they are meant to be. I can’t wait for more in the series.

Every time I read a book by this author that couple and their story instantly becomes my favourite of the author’s books so far.
Every single time…
Until the next book comes along and they somehow manage to steal my heart all over again.

How she does it, I don’t know. But what I do know is that she weaves magic into her words and you’re not just reading something really special, you’re living it with them.

This book is no exception to this rule. Frank and Sam’s story was beautifully written. It was full of heart and soul and the intricacies and fragility of humanity.

There’s an age gap, grumpy/sunshine, a cute dog and a librarian falling in love with a cop! What more could you want??

Just read them all.
Read this, get swept away by the magic of the universe the author has created.
You won’t regret it. I promise.

Greta Rose West brings us back to the fictional town of Whisper, Wyoming again with her new novel Mountains Divide Us. Just like her previous novels, this one does not disappoint. Greta Rose West has a natural talent for writing characters so real and relatable that you feel as if they are stepping off the page.
Mountains Divide Us is the story of Samantha (Sam) the new town librarian and Deputy Frank Sims. Readers were introduced to both of these characters in previous books in the series but this is a standalone novel and you can jump right in. I would suggest reading the first two books in the Whisper Dreams series to get to know the characters better. In all honesty if you do not read all of Greta Rose West’s books you are missing out.
Samantha and Frank are drawn to each other from the first time they lay eyes on each other but events in their pasts have left them both guarded and afraid to trust a relationship. Frank is older than Samantha but he is far from a typical middle-aged man. A point that is demonstrated often in the book. He knows he wants Sam, but he needs to open himself up to others in order to have her. Sam is younger, but her hurt lies deep and she needs to trust herself to love and Frank to love her in order to have a future together.
Mountains Divide Us is wonderful, love story with great characters and plenty of steam. If Whisper was a real town, my bags would already be packed. The residents of this town are absolutely charming and entertaining. They add to the story as much as the main couple does. In Mountains Divide Us we are able to check in with characters from previous books but also are introduced to some new residents as well. I love how this story developed and I cannot wait for the next book in the series.
I received an advanced reader copy for my honest review.

This is an Age Gap Romance, and this is the third book in the Wisper Dreams series. I have read the first two books in this series before picking up this book, but I do think you can read this book as a standalone. I got pulled into this book from the first page, and I loved it so much. Frank I think is my favorite character from this series so far, and Frank's dog stole my heart. The romance was cute and fun. There were so many light hearted funny moments in this book, but there were also some touching hard to read moments in this book. This book was a great read.

I want to live in Whisper!!! This was another amazing story of I think the cutest couple. I absolutely think Sam is my spirit person and Frank is so cranky its adorable. They were made for each other. The past for these two isn't pretty and the way they both came through it is amazing. Thank you Greta for letting me read your words. I can't wait for the next one.

This author does small town romance so well, the quirky little town of Wisper and the endearing characters who live there have found a place in my heart.

Now, I must say I’m not a huge fan of age gap romance (almost 20 yr age difference) Samantha is 29, Frank is 48….let me tell you, this did not stop me from loving this story and these characters! So don’t be put off if that trope isn’t your thing.

Frank, Samantha and Grumbly the dog were perfect for each other, their journey to HEA was filled with a few complications to overcome but with friends by their side, and a family that’s more than blood they can’t fail.

Now, let’s go back to talking about my favourite subject…Frank, he might be slightly grumpy, he may be nearing 50, there may be a few grey hairs but GOOD LORD that man singed my kindle! 🔥

I was already hooked on Frank and Sam when this book was merely a twinkle in GRW’s eye! She gave us a tease of a possible romance between Wisper’s quirky librarian and the mysterious silver-haired deputy in her last book and fleshed out the age-gap relationship to become one of her finest, most swoonworthy stories to date. I loved the sexy tension as both Frank (I dare you not to develop a crush on him - he’s simply delicious in every way) and Sam weigh the pros and cons of getting involved, and how their sweet connection deepens as they open up and develop trust like they’ve never been able to do with another. And as in all her books, the fantastic cast of small town characters add depth, humor and charm so that you fall in love with each of them as much as the MCs. Mountains is definitely one of my top reads of 2023, and proves once more that romance author Greta Rose West is at the pinnacle of her craft.

Frank is a 48 year old deputy in Wisper when he finishes building his house and decides to go to the city library for some books on house decoration. Sam is the new 29 year old librarian who is intrigued by the silent and grumpy deputy when he saves her from falling.
This age gap contemporary small town romance is another perfect story from Greta Rose West , and she still makes me shiver when her cowboys say "Yes, ma'am" with a smirk.
New characters shine among known characters from the Cade ranch series and, once again, the author delivers a book with an adorable dog, a romance book club and a found family love story full of warmth, tears and heart.
I also recommend going to her webpage and checking the soundtrack for this book. It gives even more depth to Frank and Sam's happily ever after.

MMMMHHHMMMMM silver fox indeed Deputy Frank Sims is and once he sets his sight on Sam the librarian in their small town, he decides he wants to get to know her. It takes a while….quite awhile….for Frank to mutter more than two words to her but once he does, Sam doesn’t stand a chance. There are many factors against them, both their pasts have made them build tall walls around themselves and their age difference is another road block they both have to get over. It’s going to take work, trust, love and opening up completely to each other to get over their own hurdles….to have a chance.
Sit back, relax, grab a tall glass of ice and enjoy a great romance with steam, humour, tragedy and loss, strength, love, and a silver fox that will have you chewing on ice to cool down…MMMMHHHHMMMMM

I love reading the continued journey of the Wisper community. The stories have no specific order, but I would recommend starting with the Cade brothers series just to get the back stories. Each book has had it's own theme or topic and this one is the age gap with Frank and Sam. Frank and Sam are great together, this book has everything from romance, life struggles, humor and of course the HEA. Greta has had a hit with every book she has created and I can't wait for the next one.

This is an awfully dramatic title for a novel about two adults who just need to get over themselves if they want to be happy. He needs to allow himself to be loved even though he’s not perfect and she needs to accept that she had value beyond her womb. Once that happens, everything works out just fine.

Frank, Wisper's Deputy Sheriff has turned his old Ranch style house into a modern, stylish but empty, home. Emotionally handicapped by childhood trauma and a failed marriage, Frank has deep trust issues. Tired of solitude, he decides now is the time to build a future but has he left it too late? Enter Samantha (but Sam), Wisper's quirky new Librarian who falls into Frank’s arms – literally! But finding true love isn’t quite that simple. Sam has her own demons, she has always dreamed of having a family but her inability to conceive makes her feel like a failure. And then, there’s an elephant in the Library, Sam is appreciably younger than Frank. Their mutual attraction (and shared love of books) is undeniable but under the circumstances, can their dreams align when “Mountains Divide”?

To Sam, Frank’s a sexy silver fox but is his protective/bossy nature sparking her “Daddy” issues? While Frank’s been alone for so long he’s not one for idle chitchat, leading Sam to think him grumpy and taciturn. When Frank does speak his mind however, he makes his intentions towards Sam very clear, leaving her breathless! After all, isn’t the definition of middle age “old enough to know better but young enough to keep doing it?”

A lot of emotional baggage is offloaded in this beautifully written book. The characters are so well described, you feel vicarious embarrassment for Sam in the “Coffee Shot" scene which made me both cringe and laugh out loud! Add in an adorably goofy puppy and a mysterious book thief and you have a delicious Small Town Western Age Gap Romance to warm up a cold Winter’s night.

“Mountains Divide Us” is Book 3 of the Wisper Dreams series and a standalone HEA. Greta Rose West has hit the mark again, it’s truly a 5 Star read!

Age is just a number between these two meant-to-be lovers.

Frank is the silent, somewhat grouchy deputy of Wisper. He’s not had any easy life, living on the streets during his youth. After being adopted, joining the army, and getting married, he thought his life was looking up, only to have his wife leave him. Now on the verge of turning half a decade old, Frank is determined to make the best of what he has in life, and that includes wooing the socks off of one sweet young librarian.

Samantha is the new librarian in town, having transferred her life from Florida to Wisper in hopes of escaping a painful loss from her past. She gets lost in her romance novels, unaware her own romance is about to take her life by storm in the form of one silent yet determined older deputy.

Though their age gap makes them pause, it’s their unwillingness to divulge their past traumas that really hinders their budding romance. Both are scared of being hurt again, leading to some major $€xu@| tension. But all their secrets will come to light when a teenager on the run comes to Wisper and seeks shelter in the town library. Together they reveal their truths and accept each other to make the family they both deserve.

This romance is fast paced and super spicy, touching on some sensitive subjects with grace, such as loss of loved ones, drug use, poverty, child neglect, endometriosis, atopic pregnancy, child loss, adoption, societal judgments due to age differences in a relationship. All of which gives depth to these characters while being sensitive to readers.

If you love small town, fastburn, grumpy sunshine, age-gap romance, put this at the top of your reading list. My rating is ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I waited so patiently for this book and it was absolutely worth it! Another lovely story from Greta!

I had a lot of feelings about the age gape thing beforehand. It's a trope I like, but not always. This story does focus quite a lot on it and for me, that made it more realistic. In the end, they found that it didn't matter for them but they didn't just dismiss it and I liked that. I also liked that no one outside of the couple, be it friends or family, had any opinions. :D

Frank is a great guy and I liked to see how he transformed during the book, from sweet but silent or grumbly to sweet and communicative and sure about what he wants from life.
Sam also is a very strong female lead character and she didn't take shit from Frank. And while she didn't communicate her fears quite that freely at the beginning (just like Frank, for that matter) she knows how to set boundaries.
They could have been a little less stubborn but hey, where would be the fun in that?! ;)

The steamy parts maybe weren't quite as steamy as in some of Greta's other books, but still hot and the ratio of steam and plot was perfect, in my opinion. (Also, how hot is that cover?! lol)

I love how much "world building" Greta puts into these books. I love the town of Whisper and I'm always happy to see characters again in other books. And it's very consistent throughout all her works, I really appreciate that! I can't wait to read more books in this series and this town (and I'm especially looking forward to Abby's book next).
