Socially Awkward

Rate this book
In a world where animals evolved alongside man, everyone is just trying to survive. Past grudges linger between the different species, and resentment is never far behind. It's hard to forget what one's ancestors did to theirs. Predators verse prey, herbivores against carnivores, while humanity is stuck in the middle of it all unsure whose side they were on. A single spark would be all it'd take to set the world ablaze.

Seattle, Washington, is no different and this cultural melting pot is sure to boil over. All it would need is one good push.

Join Alan Burges in his mundane life working as a nameless human worker at Inc. Co. His humdrum days are shaken up by a chance encounter one fateful afternoon when he crosses a wolf's path. The large foreboding black-furred wolf with blue eyes is sure to bring some excitement to his life but this new flame kindles old scarred over memories, bringing with it things Alan rather forget about himself and the past he tried to leave behind.

There's more going on in the city than Alan was aware of and when blood is spilled Alan can only hope his new friends have his back, unaware of the risks involved when going home with the big bad wolf.

A three-part story in one book. Expect violence and graphic scenes that might not be suitable for all audiences.

wow

Just wow I was so blown away by this book I have no words. I thought it would’ve been just another boy meets daddy and falls in love while pack doesn’t agree with it and hence conflict but there was just so much depth to the story I’m blown away. 🤯
Readers beware this book is a dark romance story I’d rate it at like 6.5 out of 10 for the darkness. My top rating for dark books would have to be Quil Carters Fallocaust series that series is super dark.
There was just so much depth to it I had to reread it again. It’s like a book and game at the same time. There is a few side stories that wasn’t really important but nice to read so that you can also fall in love while understanding both the main characters. The book really reflects on life and sometimes the good guys don’t always win and sometimes even love cannot conquer all. While we read the book we get to understand Alan’s first love who is PB. In a perfect world I would’ve wished they had been together after how much they sacrificed for one another but like in reality sometimes the one you want most you don’t always end up with. You see the trials and errors they went through only to see sometimes you end up where you least expect to. Reading the book you know that Alan will end up with Reese but you also get to read why.
It’s relatable because we all have that first love in our early years of life thinking forever together but life happens whether it’s family, school, or work but we always remember them for the rest of our lives.
Reading the ending was sad and bitter yet sweet and really summed everything together.
You get to read both how Alan and Reese grow and change to want to better themselves. Lots of drama, action, heartaches, and most of all love. I couldn’t have read a better book than this one. Also love the anthropomorphic in the book which separates it from most shifter romances. It’s so good and even readers can feel themselves in the book or relate on a level with it. I just wished to never stop reading it and see where the story takes us. I really fell in love with Alan, Reese, PB, Ralph, and Clem.

Well, after reading M/M werewolf romance novels, where the werewolf in question was just a man who seldom (if ever) turned in to wolf - the normal kind, I was beggining to feel kind of swindled. I wanted either a bipedal werewolf (Van Helsing style) or an anthro wolf - either way a story where the wolf or the werewolf would be present mostly in his anthro wolf form. So I looked at the Mark of Amulii page on the Kindle store for similar books and there I found this gem.

The world building in this book is something I will remember fondly. Some authors have a tendency to just dump a buch of information on the reader in one or two chapters expecting us to remember it all. This book could not be more different. I love how the author is slowly spoon feeding only what is relevant at the moment, to have the largest possible emotional impact, sometimes flipping the view I had of the world on it's head. There are no chapters, where "an elder sits down to tell the kids how the world works." The world building parts are carefully woven into flashbacks or parts of the main story line avoiding any lulls, always advancing the story.

The attention to every important detail is also something I very much enjoyed, making it easy to picture every scene in front of me. Every little movement and face expression, every sound and posture change. It made it possible to get immersed in the scene, to feel like I was standing there with them. Making it all the more gut wrenching when the punches hit. I have to confess, it took me by surprise, just how emotionally charged many of the book's scenes were. Many of those scenes made me shed a tear or two and during one scene in particular I just broke down and ended up crying out my eyes.

All of the above and many more things like character development, the world and characters themselves, the plot and style of naration - all the things I can't get into without giving you spoilers, made this one of the most memorable books I have read so far. The only thing to point out would be the occasional typo, but considering all the other qualities of the book, I could not care less about that.
