Manoeuvred into joining an American team working on the concept of memory transplants, a British scientist disappears, only to reappear (or does he) and get murdered. Journalist Andrew Taggart finds himself accused of the crime and must carry out his own investigation to clear his name.
TBH, I skipped a lot in this book. It started out about a boring psychology professor in England who was doing some kind of research the government wanted to get their hands on, but after the professor visits the US, he disappears. Eventually his wife gets worried and then the story got strange. It was a kind of sci-fi story dropped into a mystery and it just didn't work. There were plenty of shadowy government plots going on, but then it switched gears again and became a courtroom drama. I don't think this book really had a plan.
