This wasn't a bad book. I enjoyed what I read, but I came away thinking that the author assumed a little too much about Joseph's life. While yes, Joseph was obedient and did pursue a relationship with God, we don't know the struggles he may have had on that journey. Many assumptions were made that Joseph just fully believed God and did not have doubts, struggles, or get upset with God. That he just accepted his fate and moved on. This does not portray the humanity of Joseph very well, in my opinion, and leads people think they are "bad" or "wrong" when they have doubts, struggles, or get upset with God.
The author tells the story of how he had tremendous success in business by applying principles he learnt by studying the Bible. He puts emphasis on the story of Joseph in Egypt and the teaching of Jesus Christ and how they are applicable in life today. these are timeless principles. An enjoyable read, coupled with some modern stories of how these principles have been applied with success in our day. A very enjoyable read.
By reading his input on Joseph and todays world was quite interesting. I just see so many differences because of the way the world has become compared to Joseph’s world and his time on Earth. Well written with words but reality in this day and age seems far fetched. This is my opinion only. His Christian writings I agree with…. Comparisons of todays life not so much.
The story of Joseph and his family is incredible and worth exploring. Steven K. Scott takes a dozen principles from the story and uses his story and other uncited people's stories of adversity, to support the principles. The presentation is a little scattered and some of the stories could be upsetting to readers. The principles are good, the rest was okay.
I'm not sure I 100% agree with 100% of what is written in this book. But overall I found the principles very interesting and they have opened up a lot of really good conversations and given me a lot to think about. I would definitely say it is worth a read.
The Joseph Principles is a reminder of how God uses all things in our life for our good. Steven Scott does a great job of sending us back to the words of Jesus for all healing.
Thank you, Netgalley and the author/publisher, for the opportunity to read (listen to) and review an advanced reader's copy of this book. This in no way affects my review, all opinions are my own.
I read this book in back in August but didn't get the chance to review it sooner. Better late than never, I guess ;-) This book was a great read! At the time, I was making my way through Genesis. So, this book came just in time for me to add more study notes. While I believe that the author put a tad bit much of his own opinion (not explicitly described in the Bible) about Joseph's struggles in the book, I believe he was definitely on the right track given all the things Joseph overcame by being obedient. I'm sure he struggled just as much as every other believer but he still obeyed and overcame. Definitely worth a read!
