A dedicated foodie, Sandra cooks through the topic and location of every book she writes. In addition, she collects vintage glass and service ware in her free time, loves long walks with her husband, and Sunday Suppers with her growing family.
Dwell is the second devotional I've read by Sandra Byrd. I love her insights and how she takes every day occurrences, ones that we are all familiar with or activities that we all do, and relates them to Scripture. She has helped me to look for and see God in the every day. I can't tell you how many times I've felt like this devotional was written just for me or how many times God has spoken to me directly through her words, just when I needed them.
I highly recommend both Experiencing God's Love, which I have read through twice, and Dwell. They've both taught me to look for God in the every day moments.
I received a complimentary copy of this devotional. All opinions are my own.
I received a copy from Netgalley, in exchange for an honest review.
Thank you Sandra Byrd for the opportunity to read your book. This was an incredible read. It was a 90-day devotional, but I read it in 4 days because they taught me about how to live my life building a personal relationship with God and how to always draw near Him. He is the One who will never leave us nor forsake us. This devotional provides insights in how to live for the Lord and to be blessed by the blessings that God has for you. It teaches you how to overcome and persevere through the things that you go through in life. You can do anything with Christ by your side. You just have to surrender and give all him. As James 4:8 says “Draw near to God, and He will draw near you.” I loved it and I am inspired by the lessons in this book. They motivate me to be better and reach out to the world. Overall, an amazing read.
Since I’ve read Sandra Byrd’s devotional, Experiencing God’s Love, I knew I had to read her newest release, Dwell: 90 Days at Home with God. She did not disappoint.
The way she weaves day-to-day life, that we all experience, into her devotionals is encouraging and uplifting. She blends humor, heartache, and hope with the comfort of scripture. So many times I wished I could call her and say, "This is so me!"
Sandra Byrd is a very engaging writer and her brief devotionals will draw you closer to God—something we need every day.
Note: I received a copy from the publisher via NetGalley.
Home is a special place. It's where we have intimate times with family and friends. God desires to have an intimate relationship with us, to dwell. To help orient us in that direction, Byrd shares spiritual insights from her home and garden.
One of my favorites was a lesson from plants. Some keep pests away, just as does being in the Word daily. There are also lessons are from daily household tasks. Who hasn't put a new colored garment in with the whites only to find them all contaminated by the color. That's what sin does.
Like Byrd, I live in the Pacific Northwest. Yes, it is known for its rain but we have had unusually dry times. In my favorite devotion, Byrd relates that to spiritually dry times of testing. As sprinklers will provide needed water to a newly planted lawn, tears water the seeds of faith, perseverance, and hope until God's blessings rain down again.
These devotions draw our attention to every day tasks and scenes, Byrd providing inspiring thoughts on God and faith. It's a good devotional for those who appreciate all things home and garden.
I received a complimentary egalley of this book from the publisher. My comments are an independent and honest review.
This is the first devotional I have read by Sandra Byrd and I absolutely adore it. Dwell is the perfect addition to one's Bible Study time. The practical insights to daily life are refreshing, allowing me to take a simple thought and make an easy application to my life. It also goes well with my personal goal, of allowing/making God part of my every day life, wanting to 'dwell' in HIs presence, but also, wanting Him to 'dwell' within my life and home. Each devotional is presented with a short story of daily occurrences that are so easy to 'see' within my life, as if it was written personally for me.
I received a complimentary copy of this book from the author/publisher through Netgalley and was not required to write a review. All opinions expressed are my own.
I enjoyed every devotional in this thoughtful book! Sandra Byrd shares personal stories of her home care, family, and gardening experiences paired with a verse or verses of scripture. Each devotional helped me focus on the things of God and the scripture verse or passage gave me something to take into my day to meditate upon. It was lovely from start to finish.
I was delighted to be able to read this pre-release through Netgalley. I loved it and cannot wait to add the final released copy to my library. It would be a great gift for the women in my life, too.
Thank you NetGalley, the publisher, and the author for this wonderful ARC.
When I first picked up this book, I knew it was something special. I am a Pagan — not a Christian — so why was I drawn to reading a devotional of all things? The answer is that there is a seed of truth to be found. It shares a love of God that is transformative, one that teaches vulnerability before the divine. I have been going through a crisis of faith with my own Lord, relearning what it means to worship and to forgive myself for the mistakes I've made. Dwell has helped me move on in a way I didn't know was possible.
The author shares a loving form of Christianity that is not preoccupied with strict rules or fire and brimstone, even when she condemns other faiths (including my own). It stems from fear and a lack of understanding, not hatred. She represents her own faith in a way that is genuine, with kindness and compassion. She shows that it is not only acceptable, but beautiful to be a human — flaws and all. The writings within describe a Christian experience I have never known.
I wish my wife could have read this when she was young. She's an ex-Catholic, a woman who is devout and sweet beyond words. Organized religion only taught her fear, and it wasn't until she left the church that she could feel free. Dwell is not a book about religious trauma, but I believe it would be beneficial for anyone who has experienced this trauma and feels comfortable exploring their past in a new light.
For those who are seeking a new perspective on faith, consider reading this book. Wisdom comes from unexpected places, as does love. Dwell encourages you to find that love and where it exists in your life. Of everything on Earth, being loved is the most beautiful thing of all. May this move your spirit as it did mine. Blessed be.
In this case, it is safe to judge a book by its cover! Dwell's cover teases a devotional that is as warm and cozy as a favorite side chair. The devotions on each page draw the reader near to God with tidbits of knowledge and relatable anecdotes from the author's everyday life along with complementary scriptures. The beauty of this book continues on from the one page, day-to-day devotions to serene, calming photos sprinkled generously throughout. I highly recommend Dwell!

Sandra Byrd, the author of Dwell, is attuned to nature and to circumstances in a way that is totally different to me. Like the parables of Jesus, she can take the ordinary happenings of life, and weave a biblical reminder of truth for us, encouraging us in our Christian lives.
Ninety devotionals seems an appropriate length for such a book. It is easily one that can then be referred to throughout the year. I can imagine with repetitive reading, I would have continuing favorites, depending on my life situation at the time.
I’m not finished reading each devotional, but feel moved to comment on :On Display. It’s a simple story about friendship, empathy, about generous giving and about encouraging one another. I’m sitting here in my favorite armchair, commentaries and Christian books within easy reach, committing this day to my Lord and Saviour. This is the goal of each of these devotions, to draw us ever nearer to the Christ who loves us.
Dwell. I guess it gets at the root of what we want to do. If the book were to be called, Living Life with Jesus, I think it would get at the heart of the imagination of the reader, and fulfill the aims of the author. At heart, this is what Byrd’s book inspires me to do. It also inspires me to assess and reassess the gifting I have been given by God, and prompts me to look for opportunities where I may be useful in serving others.
Thank you, Sandra, for helping us to see Jesus in the everyday moments of your life; and consequently, in our own.
I have never read a book by Sandra Byrd that I didn't like. Honestly, even if I didn't love it, I at least liked it and could recommend it to someone who would love it. But in her newest collection of devotions, this author helps the reader connect to God in a deeper, more realistic way. From the very first page, Byrd makes you feel like you are one of her closest friends and you're just sitting in a comfy chair or on the couch with her; sharing a cup of tea and talking about the goodness and holiness of God.
This author has a special way of making you feel comfortable and at ease with whatever spiritual insight she shares. She connects the Bible to everyday life by sharing her personal experiences as a mother, wife, friend, author, and grandmother. She helps the reader to see that God is not only a mighty creator and judge of all humanity. He is also the God of overbaked cookies and picking your kids up late from school. He's the ever-present God of a wife who sits at the side of her husband's hospital bed. He's the God who cares about the big and the little things.
I appreciate how this devotional can be picked up and read in just a few minutes. It's the perfect devotional for beginning or ending your day. It would make a wonderful gift for a mother a sister or a friend.
I received a free electronic copy of this book from Net Galley.
You will find the word “dwell” in scripture in many places and in this new beautiful book, book by Sandra Byrd – Dwell: 90 Days at Home with God, is about dwelling with the Lord. The book starts of with a beautiful description of the word, and what it may mean to us. “No matter where the Lord Plants us in the world, He wants us to settle in and make a home. (Jeremiah 29:5). God make it clear from the start that He desires to be intimate with us wherever we dwell.”
This is a 90 day devotional, they are short and encouraging reads. You will find lessons from everyday living through the chores we do, nature, gardening, and time with family or friends in our home. So it is very relatable. The author has a wonderful way with tying everyday things with lessons we can learn from God through them.
“The body of Christ is both orderly and planned and a crazy quilt of unexpected joys and blossoms. There’s a particulate pleasure in watching both gardens realize their beauty, so keep planting.”
I read the ebook version, but this would be better in a hard copy, for the images and setting it out to read or for a guest to pick up while visiting.
This is the first book I have read by Sandra Byrd, and I found you she has many other books that interest me.
This was a very lovely 90 day devotional that I throughly enjoyed. The devotions centered around home and family with ideas on decorating, gardening and everyday situations. The photos included were beautiful and fit right along with that day’s reading. Included were scriptures at the bottom that gave me food for thought. Weeds Hiding, Bread Basket, Broken Vessels and Tea for Two were just some of the daily titles. I loved how the author gave a reference to how God works within each devotional. The title is perfect too. We dwell in our homes but the Holy Spirit dwells within us if we are Christians. Bonus: This was published by Our Daily Bread, which I’ve been reading for many years. Sandra Byrd has written other devotional books which I need to check out. I received a complimentary copy of this book by the publisher/author but was not required to write a review positive or otherwise.
What a marvelous devotional! I loved it! I have read several books by this author, and with the book's description, I knew I would probably enjoy it! Ms. Byrd uses observations of her home and yard to draw the reader' interest, and applies it to spiritual insights and Scripture, for a page a day for 90 days. Her writing flows well and her thoughts are meaningful. One sample page talks about when the author and her family moved to a new place, she was delighted at the previous owner's "playing it forward" gardening. As a result, she was inspired to garden, leaving it for the next person when they rented property. Ms. Byrd observed that such kingdom planting, for long or short periods, results in the Master Gardener causing growth. It is such a please to garden with our brothers and sisters.
I was able to read this e-book compliments of the publisher and author. The opinions expressed are my own.
This devotional work spans 90 days and offers concise yet uplifting readings. It draws parallels between lessons derived from our everyday experiences, whether they involve household chores, interactions with nature, gardening, or moments spent with family and friends within our homes. The author skillfully links these commonplace occurrences to profound spiritual insights. "The body of Christ is both orderly and planned and a crazy quilt of unexpected joys and blossoms. There's a particular pleasure in witnessing both gardens flourish in their beauty, so keep planting."While I read the ebook version, it is evident that this book would be best enjoyed in a hard copy format, allowing readers to appreciate the accompanying images and providing an inviting layout for perusal, perhaps even for guests to pick up during a visit.
Dwell: 90 Days at Home with God provides a relaxing narrative format infused with gardening and home tidbits and sprinkled with scripture. Each day gives the reader an encouraging few minutes of reverie to ponder what it means to dwell and as the author states, a hope that these pages “will lead you to a place where no matter where you dwell, you always feel at home with God.”
With analogies of “home”, each devotion is packed with what the Word can teach us through every day observations in and around our dwelling place. Scripture references are included within the body of each devotion with a summary scripture at the close.
I received this book from the author/publisher free of charge, with no expectation of a positive review.
Dwell - 90 Days at Home with God by Sandra Byrd is an excellent devotional showing God’s love and guidance in the familiar everyday life. God is often seen in the quiet everyday which this book so aptly reminds the reader. There is something for everyone in this devotional.
Each day’s devotional is short but poignant with a timely Bible verse. They speak to the heart as much as the mind. This is a devotional that one can fit into any day giving one something to think on as they go about their daily chores and work. It would always make a wonderful gift with the full color photographs to go with the thought-provoking devotional.
The publisher through Net Galley provided a complimentary digital copy. I have voluntarily decided to read and review, giving my personal opinions and thoughts.
Dwell is an appropriate name for this devotional by Sandra Byrd. I found myself walking through her home and garden as she painted descriptions of them throughout the book. The gentle way she incorporates the seemingly mundane parts of life (like new carpet or weeds, for example) into life lessons is beautiful. Sandra has a way of drawing you into whatever she writes and this was no exception. I took a lot of notes. I spent some time listening to hear what the Spirit was saying. I came away with new tools for my tool box for life. I was convicted and encouraged. All the while I heard my Savior whisper, “Abide with Me”.
I absolutely loved this devotional by Sandra Byrd. As they say, timing is everything. I read this book during a time of great emotional upheaval. I find Sandra’s words provide a great and steadying base which points me to God’s great love for me, for us, ALL the time not just during times of distress. She writes in a way of a best friend, real, vulnerable yet wise. I bookmarked so many pages and highlighted so many phrases the pages might as well be yellow! I received a copy of this book from the publisher via NetGalley, however I will be buying copies of the book to give to family once it’s released.
I am not particularly fond of devotionals. But, I loved Dwell by Sandra Byrd. This is designed for you to read for 90 days and it is quite easily done in five minutes. Dwell, as the title so appropriately states, is to live or stay in one place. Each devotion Ms. Byrd tells a story about what she has experienced while living in her home(s). She uses these incidents to correlate them with the Word of God. The stories are extremely relatable and have caused me to consider various aspects of God and life..
I highly recommend reading this book. I was given a copy of this book. I was not expected to write a positive review and all opinions expressed are my own.
I received this devotional through Our Daily Bread, it was amazing. I read it for the 90 days, and each day the messages were so heartfelt and what made it so special is that no matter who you are you can relate to the readings. You find yourself in many of the readings and the daily experiences that we all have at sometime or another in our lives. I found much comfort in the daily readings. So... before when or if you start reading, make sure to find your cozy spot, with your cup of coffee or tea, and enjoy, relate, and dwell on the time spent with your open heart and mind on how Bless we all are. Peace and Always find your JOY!!
We've recently spent a long time on the road - visiting family and then moving to a hotel during some significant renovations on our house. In a season of being out of the house, which is hard for a homebody, it was a nice anchoring reminder that even the every day - wrangling my child, picking up dirty socks, closing up that hotel sofa bed for the day, commuting, can be places of reverence.
I highly recommend reading the hard copy as I read the e-book and missed out on the lovely graphic design.
Sandra Byrd's devotional book entitled Dwell: 90 Days At Home With God feels like a comfortable chat with a wise friend over a cozy cup of tea. Sandra's writing is clear, relatable, and filled with spiritual insight and wisdom. I loved how the everyday experiences were connected to spiritual truths. Each day's reading can be done in 5-10 minutes, but they will stay with you much longer. Sandra shows how much there is to learn from God's creation and His word. I recommend this beautiful book to anyone who wishes to grow closer to God.
With exquisite language and vivid imagery, Sandra Byrd has crafted a comforting and beautiful devotional book.
With rock solid Scripture as the foundation of each daily reading, the book provides a safe shelter for reflection and inspiration. I'm delighted to give Dwell my highest recommendation!
I was given an advance copy from the publisher. My review was not solicited and my opinion is honest and genuine.
Sandra Byrd’s new devotional, Dwell: 90 Days at Home With God is a beautiful book. In it you will find 90 individual devotionals, each one centered around themes such as gardening, family, friendship, and food, all under the umbrella of home. Each day contains a topic, short (and warm) devotional, Scriptures throughout and one focus Scripture that ties it all together.
When I came back to Jesus in my early twenties, I spent most of my time reconnecting with Him through devotions in my women’s Bible, and other materials that were devotional in nature. It was a simple and comforting way to learn. It encourages and edifies the Body of Christ and often provides a word in due season. This devotional reminds me of that time in my life.
As I read, I found one devotional that had the theme of marigolds. I was instantly reminded of my childhood, the smell of marigolds and playing in the dirt. I am sure God was there in that experience; it evokes such joy and comfort in my heart.
Dwell has an overall warm and cozy theme. The pictures are gorgeous and it is just a very beautiful book.
If you are looking for a nugget of encouragement each day, I would recommend Dwell to you. You might just be inspired to become more creative in your home, as you grow in your walk with God. Read it with a cup of tea and a cozy blanket or sitting in your favorite chair. It would make a nice gift for a friend or your mom this Mother’s Day.
Blessings to you as you continue to grow in grace, and allow God to meet you in the quiet spaces of home.
*I received a complimentary copy of the devotional from the publisher through NetGalley. I was not required to give a positive review. The thoughts and opinions here are entirely my own.
Take ninety days to find refreshment among familiar sights with fresh insights. The author weaves stories from her personal life into devotions that touch the heart and guide the reader closer to God. The book is beautifully illustrated with color photos and decorations to highlight the pages and Bible verses. I appreciated the honesty and empathy shown by the author. I recommend this for personal or family devotions. I received a copy from the author and publisher. All opinions are my own.
I find Sandra Byrd's devotionals insightful, applicable, and gently convicting. She encourages me to look for the God winks in even the most mundane chores and tasks. And isn't that what it's all about? God dwelling with us, all the time, in every moment. The fact that Sandra's living these moments too makes her devotions feel like letters from a dear friend. I highly recommend for yourself and for friends on your gift list.
Dwell makes me feel that God is closer to me than I think and makes the scriptures feel more personal. Sandra's writing is so warm and down to earth. I love her beautiful descriptions. Also, as a foodie, she often had my mouth watering. I actually dog-eared some pages to reread again later because they were so awesome.
Using real life examples from her own home life and experiences, this author conversationally provides uplifting and encouraging short, daily devotionals to show how God is working through her life. I enjoyed the concrete examples and scripture passages that relate to each day's reading. The photography is beautiful and a joy to study.
This was a lovely book of encouraging devotionals with Christian quotations. They were a bit simple, I thought, but provide hope for each day. It's a great coffee table book, or present for a friend. I prefer Sandra Byrd's blog, but I liked the book.
I received this free ebook from NetGalley in return for an honest review.
A 90 day devotional of short thought provoking messages to help you draw closer to God each day. At the end of the devotional, hopefully this time each day will become a firm habit. Each one takes a few minutes to read leaving you with plenty of time to ponder the deeper significance of what you have read.
