No more What REALLY happened back in New York is finally revealed! But it's still affecting matters here in the present, where Ben and Alicia's lives hang in the balance... and it'll take more than a reunion to save them. alien invaders from another galaxy! The four are finally back together... Hope they survive the experience!
Ryan North's run on Fantastic Four is surprisingly well done. Each individual issue tells a complete story, even while there has been an unspoken mystery for four issues. With this issue, we finally know what happened-- why Ben and Alicia were road tripping away from Reed, Sue, and the rest of New York.
I don't know what to tell you. The whole team comes together this time. There's powers, there's wacky science, and there's family.
This issue is particularly noteworthy for me today, as today my best friend and I called it quits. Here, Reed and Ben came close to having the exact same thing happen. But because this is the Fantastic Four, no obstacle can keep the main cast apart for more than a few issues.
*shrugs* Marvel, please dump every title with Deadpool. Fire Tini Howard, and do everything in your power to block her from even setting foot into a comic book store. Tell Wolverine that he is allowed to be in ONE title, and that is all. ... And then after all of that, book Ryan North to keep writing for Fantastic Four a couple years, and give him some other books to work on too. Because this is so much better than some of the other rot I have been reading.
It's a breath of fresh air. These are relaxation comics.
I have only read two issues of the new Fantastic Four series by North, Coello, and Aburtov, with covers by Ross. However, I was able to get a bunch of them at a great price. It was a run till issue 12, but with plenty of holes in between. That doesn't bother me as a reader, each issue I have read so far has a complete story, though with a subplot that connects it to the next.
The Alex Ross covers are probably the most dynamic of the painter's career. It still has that photo-realistic sheen, but with less static studio poses.
As for the story, I managed to get to the best part of the first four issues. The Fantastic Four family reconcile and reunite. Just as the creators planned for its fourth issue.
This is just one issue, but I have written way too much for a single-issue review, and I still have a bunch of issues to read. I am started to get started on reading Fantastic Four in 2025.
This was great! Still a bit unsettling with the Reed body horror, using his powers to alter his eye so it can be used as a microscope? The technobabble went a little too far for my liking but the central reveal was really well done. It's always good to see how the actions of our heroes affects the world around them and in this case it affects the family too.
Looking forward to where North takes the team now with hopefully a big story over time.
This issue really reinforces my thoughts that this arc is a great introduction to FF for new FF readers .
I’m glad they finally explained what happened to the Baxter Building but did they have to do that to the children? In addition I’d swear Franklin was younger than in the last story. Otherwise a good story.
The reboot that should not have happened. I have been a steady fan of the Fantastic Four since the reboot a few years ago. The new creative team, seems to lack creativity. I hate Johnny’s mustache, and it probably won’t be long before I’m no longer subscribing to this comic.
