Condemned Izaean Berserker K’laus didn’t expect to find his fated mate in a medical bay. Or for her to be human. He certainly didn’t expect to have to watch her walk away from him.
Escaping the station is easy. Tracking his mate down on a planet alien to him is a little harder. Claiming her heart might just take all the magic that Christmas has to offer. Especially when he can’t tell her he’s not the man she thinks he is . . .
No time for Christmas, she has a job to do. One that doesn’t include falling in love. Holly was the best gen-modded predator keeper on the planet. Until one of her charges used her as a chew toy. Literally.
Now the only job she can find is her personal nightmare; Deer keeper in a Christmas resort. Whatever. She just has to survive until Christmas. Which doesn’t include falling for the resort’s charming, handsome driver. But he is cute and he seems familiar . . .
When her annoying ex drops the bombshell that her new crush isn’t who he says he is, can she see past the lie, and accept the truth in her handsome alien's heart?

Holly has had a rotten time lately. She was savaged by a genetically altered Tiger, she would have died if not for the intervention of the Lathar. Her so-called boyfriend/boss didn't visit her, her job has been reassigned and now she has to deal with a new job in a town that embraces Christmas. Holly HATES Christmas!
K'laus is an Izaean warrior on the edge of insanity. His blood rage was taking hold before a tiny human woman was put into the medical room next to his. His every thought afterward was keeping her safe. He thinks he's found his mate - one small problem, he'll have to escape lockdown and track her down on Earth!
I loved this reworking of Scrooge. Holly has reason to hate the festive period but she's slowly engaging with all things festive. K'laus may have assumed another's identity but why is he getting backup from the male's family? I loved they way he just became human! He was so fish-out-of-water but just went with it. A complete counter to Holly's anti-Christmas attitude.
There has been a great setup for Holly's friend Audrey and a certain devilish looking alien but I'm most excited that it's Murphy's HEA next. Who in the Universe can put up with him?
Oh my! This author just merged two things that she does so well, Christmas stories and the Lathar, and now I think I’m in love. This sweetheart of a guy, okay he’s an alien but Santa vouches for him and that makes him just about perfect in my book, was just handed the best Christmas gift of all. A lady to love, a new lease on life, and a family that was taken from him long ago. And how his lady has grown since her brush with death. No more being just a plus one with surface relationships in a town that grows on you by the day, and an alien who gave her those unexpected Hallmark moments. This book was everything I had hoped for and so much more, the perfect Christmas gift to myself really, and I can’t wait to read what happens in the new year.
What could be more Christmassy than a story about K'laus and Holly. This is a short and sweet. I absolutely loved it! Mina never disappoints. Even though its short, the characters are well developed and it's complete. I love escaping into the world of the Lathar.
When Holly ends up in an alien hospital after being attacked by one of her gen-modded animal charges, two things happen: She finds out who her friends really are and the berserker warrior in the bed next to her realizes she's his special someone. To be fair, Holly herself doesn't realize these things until after she's healed and been released, but the catalyst is that hospital stay.
First up, her boyfriend-ish is terrible. Good riddance to finding out he's not nearly as invested in the relationship as Holly maybe was. Second, K'laus. The Izaean might be considered unstable by Lathar standards, but he knows a good thing when he sees her. And Holly is VERY MUCH his good thing.
So when she's released, he does what any good warrior would do in his shoes and escapes the hospital to hunt her down. Not in a creepy way, though. Well, mostly not in a creepy way. Let's just say that he might have bent (and downright broken) the truth a little to get close to Holly, but he also found a place for himself in the holiday-themed resort town he ended up in. A few encounters and a night spent in snowed-in bliss and just mayyyybe he can convince Holly he's the one for her.
A resort with a whole lot of Christmas cheer, an ex who is a genuinely terrible person, a herd of reindeer, an alien warrior who will do what eh need to do to keep his special someone safe, and a lady who finds she doesn't hate Christmas nearly as much as she thought she did. *thumbs up*
Listen, this got an extra star because I can't fault this book for being a Hallmark movie when that's clearly what it was supposed to be. But man, this was rough. The book itself is fine for what it is and 17 books in, the people still keeping to the series are getting exactly what they pay for, but I just picked this one up and NOTHING gets explained. That's not the reason for the low rating but it's pretty confusing when you don't know what the aliens are supposed to look like. No, the unbearable part of this was the audiobook was narrated by AI and it was horrendous. I normal don't DNF books and that can be a drain on my psyche but I really really considered it on this one because the narration was so God awful. The inflections were wrong, the AI couldn't figure out questions or sounds, and it was super confusing to navigate who was talking because, or course, it doesn't do the voices for different characters. Quick aside though, the amount of "this is too dangerous for my mate" stuff from the alien was really annoying and also the amount of times the female lead almost gets got through this book. Also also, the whole "snow could've hit you that's really dangerous"- like, roof snow? What're you on about?
Here's BINGO, I won't be continuing with this author unless I forget who she is and read another by mistake: -He's a monster! but not really -The most mundane sex -Conflict? Hardly an inconvenience
A sweet Holiday story with shady undertones, this novella is easy to read and has great characters and a cute storyline. K’laus and Holly were possibly always meant to be together but were probably never meant to meet. Although this story is easy to read in one afternoon, whenever you start it, you won’t want to put it down. I loved the way love found a way with them though…or was it Santa? Maybe even a Christmas miracle? Whatever it was, it was a lovely build-up. K’laus/Jaime was taking his time trying to win Holly over. He wasn’t a caveman about it, choosing to win her over slowly. He did what he had to do to get close to her, but it wasn’t creepy in any way. I could read this author’s books every day and never get tired of her writing style. Holly is the perfect heroine. I loved the way she handled the slimy Dean situation. He was a poster boy for every bad boyfriend of all time, anywhere. I kind of think he was behind her original “accident” at the beginning of the story. Holly though, she’s independent, a straight talker, and able to take care of herself. She was a career-focused but brilliant scientist, who I kept imagining was the victim of some dastardly campaign to kill her off, but maybe it was just bad luck or timing on her part? Review: A sweet story. Wish some background loose ends had been better tied up though.
Was great and fast to read. Did not want to stop. Glad they came together. Would have given it perfect score except for three things. One, her backstory was skimpy. One one hand it implied she was part owner of the corporation that she worked for (inherited from family) and on other she was spoiled rich girl that was indulged to follow passion. Other implied she was grunt worker that had her apart owned by corp she worker for, and boss unfaithful. With her too dense not to see it. Two the author did not state what they would do after last chapter. I like to think she got job for resort caring for reindeer and her mate as employee doing varied maintenance job for it and dome. Three what was the “father/santa” like character? Like how author implied he was Santa but was totally impractical that he claimed him as family. Without anyone in Dome busting it as false.
The author mentioned it, not me! A delightful romp through a Christmas Wonderland manufactured for those who love the holiday. Unfortunately for her, Holly isn't one of them. She's there picking up the pieces of her life that were destroyed by an "incident" at work. You really find out who your friends are when something like that happens.
Enter K'Laus, the latharian who has decided Holly is meant to be his. And he's not wrong. The problem is getting to her and convincing her before his presence on Earth blows up, along with his cover, might prove a tad bit difficult.
A cute, light-on-the-steam, but oh so festive read. Holly and K'Laus have their time, but the majority of the story was the two getting to know each other, and discovering themselves in the process. Finished the book with a satisfied feeling, and a little envious of the setting.
Another brilliant read by Mina. After being savagely attacked by an altered tiger Holly's only reason she survived was due to alien technology. When she recovers and resumes her position she learns that not only did her lover/ boyfriend and boss think she wouldn't survive but totally replaced her. Excepting the only position available she heads to a snowy mountain resort to care for reindeers. While being held in a medical suite Berserker K'laus is one step closer to losing his life when the new patient next to him calms his very soul. The odds of finding his fated mate were zero. Until her The lengths that K'laus go through after Holly is released is certainly a male on a mission. Not only does he have to break out of his room he has to find a way to track her. And track her he does to this snowy Christmas town. A beautiful story with a HEA
I have been mainlining this series—Warriors of the Latham—for the past week. Yes, I am a reading addict—romances to be specific. This series is so great, I even purchased the books, though I am a monthly subscriber to Kindle Unlimited. This one is just a heartwarming play on the magic of Christmas. Loved it!!
That said, I had to take a star off for editing. Too many times, words were misspelled or tenses were wrong. Really, Mina? You can do better than this. I have to assume you were in a rush to get to publishing. Also, how many times do you use “climb him like a tree”? There are several more euphemisms you could use. How about “jump his bones” or “tackle him into bed”?
Still, this was a great book, one I would recommend highly to anyone looking for a real feel-good romance.
Christmas isn't Holly's favorite holiday but finds herself working with reindeer at a Christmas themed resort. K'laus thought his end was near when his rage was spiraling out of control until seeing his fated mate in the medical bay. He escapes to follow where Holly went when released and gets caught up in the holiday mayhem, helping the resort workers with a myriad of tasks under the guise of another's mistaken identity. Instant attraction between them evolves into something magical until K'laus's ruse is uncovered. Can Holly forgive his omission, or will she leave behind the best thing that ever happened to her? Sweet with the perfect amount of steam! I voluntarily read and reviewed an advance copy of this book.
For a novella, this book was well written and rather developed. It felt like a novel instead of a novella. I really liked Holly and K’laus together. There were so many sweet moments between them. I loved their courtship and watching their relationship blossom. She’s a confident scientist taking care of reindeers and he’s an alien pretending to be a human returning home from the military. He was so involved with the community and work there that I believed he was the human, Jamie Kringle. Lots of Christmas references while the setting is in a small Christmas town but it was well done and not annoying at all. A fun, easy read. I recommend and can see me reading it again
4.5 stars. A cute Christmassy Lathar story. Enjoyed Holly and how she relearnt the Christmas spirit. K'laus was a fab hero but I loved the hints of Christmas magic and Santa meddling. I took away half a star as we aren’t given a complete ending. It is implied but not stated they will be staying in Christmas Falls. But what about the Lathar and K’laus being Izaean? The epilogue was gripping with Holly’s friend Audrey meeting up with Utak Tev. That will be something. But the best was the fact that Murphy's story is next. Now that will be a one click for sure. This is my honest review of this book.
A lovely Xmas story, full of sadness, lost chances, winning ways, and reindeer aplenty. K'laus is a berserker in search of his Kelarris who he found while imprisoned and sharing a space with severely injured human Holly. He is keyed into Holly's essence, knows she is at Christmas Falls, assumes the ID of a Jamie Kringle, and attempts to woo Holly. But Holly doesn't want to be at Christmas Town because she is jaded by all the Christmas cheer. Clues abound, from reindeer, to a suspicious grandpa. All these elements lead to a wonderful Christmas story with an epilog promising more of Murphy. This is my honest and voluntary review.
Christmas spirit? No, that's not for her. Memories were not good for Holly, but when her thoughts constantly start running back to her multiple times savior, new emotions and feelings come to the fore. Interesting, entertaining, and curious development of the plot around Christmas with a human scientist almost a Scrooge and an Izaean, Berserker, escaped and hit by Cupid's arrow. The red alien left me intrigued! I can't wait to see how Audrey is going to deal with that and to Murphy seems his time is coming up. A lovely alien Christmas story with adventure, a bit of suspense, amusing situations, a special 'grandfather' a mischief reindeer, romance, and passion
Holly was attacked by a tiger and almost died. (She works with animals). The hero alien is lost to blood rage when he sees her and calms down. He wants her to be his mate. She was in the hospital and doesn't know he was in the room next to her.
She gets a new job taking care of reindeer and he tries to woo her.
However, he assumed the identity of a person who had died (he didn't know that, he thought the guy was just late for a job).
That was a big plot hole. A grandfather sees a person who looks exactly like his grandson and just goes with it? Doesn't turn him in? Then makes up a fake id and says he's that guy's twin brother?
Izaean Berserker K’laus wanted to be a healer. It never was to be. He certainly didn’t think anything of the human in med bay. But something about her drew him in. She was his fated mate. Holly was not having a good month, week, and day. She got attacked by an experimental project and now having to deal with losing her job as lead scientist. Now she is dealing with reindeer and she hates Christmas. When these two finally meet up face to face, it feels like they were meant to be. Strange things are happening at Christmas Falls. This story gets you into the mood of Christmas with an added Christmas magic. K’laus found his fated mate and Holly finally found love and happiness.
Holly is recuperating from a near life and death injury. Luckily she was saved due to Lathar technology. Now, she's back home and returns to work. A new assignment to Christmas falls leads to an unexpected romance. Izaean Berserker K’laus was afflicted with blood rage. Until he saw Holly in the bed next to him. After that, Holly was his only focus. So much so, that when Holly is released, K'laus escapes and follows her. Because she's his mate. K'laus may be an alien warrior, but he's got no problem getting Holly to fall head over heels for him.
I received an advanced reader copy of this book and am leaving a voluntary review.
She hates Christmas. Now after being mauled by a genetically modified tiger, going to the Lathar space station for healing, and losing her job, apartment, and boyfriend, Holly is sent to Christmas town to care for the reindeer. Could things get worse. He was in the next bed on that station, waiting to be executed as an Izeaen in blood rage. K'laus came alive at the first wiff of her scent. Now all he has to do is escape a Latharian space station and find a woman whose name he does not know on a planet he's never been to. Time for some Christmas Magic.
K'Laus isn't expecting to survive his rage and then comes Holly. But can he convince Holly to accept all that he is? An Alien Berserker for Christmas is the latest in Mina Carter's Warriors of the Lathar. I enjoyed meeting K'Laus. He is a berserker whose rage got the best of him. But all he needed was his mate. Now c as n he convince her to stay? Holly has had nothing but work to sustain her. If nothing else being on death's door showed her how little she has outside of her job. Can she accept the magic that is Christmas? I loved finding out in this short feel good story.
She barely survived a horrific tiger attack and he was the berserker in the medical bay next door. When she left he followed even though he was a dangerous Izean berserker, feared by Lathar and humans alike. He needed Holly to be his mate, but could this strong, capable woman overlook his reputation and give him a chance? Do Christmas miracles really happen? Lovely story about love, redemption and forgiveness. Perfect for the holidays! Enjoy!
Besides the tongue in cheek wit of Holly and K’laus’ names, so much of the tale made me chuckle. The Lathar tribes increase with the Izaea who have their own distinctions and are also looking for their fated mate. K’laus following Holly to Christmas Falls gives us a sweet holiday setting with all of the Hallmark fun, sci-fi backstory, and a twist or two making this a lovely short read.
If not for the Lathar, Holly would not have survived being attacked by a deadly creature. When she is released from their medical center, K'laus follows her to her next assignment. He was in the medical center due to his blood rage that ended when he saw Holly.
Christmas magic keeps putting them together as K'laus tries to gain Holly's attention and love. He worries he will lose her when she finds out he has been lying to her and that he is really an alien.
I got the impression that Holly's ex-boyfriend had moved on to his secretary while she was laying there struggling to survive. The clues are there but nothing is mentioned about it, which I think was a missed opportunity.
I have just finished reading this story and I have not been able to put it down until the last page was read. I love how an Alien found his mate were you never thought to find one in a medics hospital right in the next bed to your own.but this happened to klus and a happy ending for them both.I would like to say thank you for all your hard work and may fortune smile 😃on you always 😁from a bookworm
This was so cute. A doctor assigned to care for GEnmod enhanced animals recovers from being attacked and realizes that she is not feeling her boyfriend the CEO who did not come to visit her when she was attacked but rather packed her stuff up. Dumped she has a new assignment and an admirer who wants to mate her. Reindeers in Christmas land here she comes and hopefully a XM’s romance too!
This story, a Christmas tale, was sweet and warm like hot chocolate with marshmallows. In fact, the first date was over a cuppa of that wintertime treat. This story was definitely more romancy than spicy, in contrast to the other Lather world episodes. I gave it 5 stars, because the story generated a warm fuzzy feeling inside, to go to sleep on tonight, before I start the next lather story.
A very cute Christmas story that even has some Christmas magic. Is it luck or fate for K’laus to have found her? For Holly it seems like she is unlucky as her life has been turned upside down. Working with reindeers isn’t what this doctor expected. But she will have plenty of surprises and a new view at life. The romance is sweet. But one big lie may take a miracle to fix.
