The Suits #4

Diamonds

Rate this book
Valentina De La Vega has nothing left to her name except bad habits and borrowed time. Her late
husband’s fortune—the money her mother’s survival depends on—lies in the Mafia boss’s hands,
tied to conditions she keeps failing to to stay thirty days sober, with no scandals, and to
marry a man the boss approves of.

While Valentina’s never been good at doing what she’s told, Marco Grey built his entire life on
following the rules. Once a soldier, now a lawyer with links to the Mafia, Marco thrives on
discipline and distance. He doesn’t get attached, he doesn’t get involved, yet he’s the one who
shows up every time Valentina’s chaos threatens to spiral out of control—though he swears
through gritted teeth this is the last time he’ll come to her rescue.

She’s reckless, defiant, and drowning in grief.

He’s controlled, guarded, and carrying a guilt he’ll never admit.

They’re both avoiding each other—for better or worse.

But in a world where love and loyalty come at a cost, what if their survival depends on being
together? Even if Marco’s silence about the past may be one of the reasons Valentina’s life
shattered in the first place . . .

KYRA IS COMING HOT AND FAST WITH A NEW RELEASE IN THIS SERIES AND YOU’RE NOT READY FOR THE HEARTACHE ❤️‍🩹

thank you so much kyra bby for letting me be a part of your team and to beta read the next book in this series 🤍 seeing some of the characters from the previous books as well as getting to know more about marco and valentina just feels like coming home 🥹 this series is one of the books that started my booktok / booksta and i’ll forever be grateful to have this amazing opportunity. this series is absolutely everything and this book … oh this book HURTS 😩 you will cry, giggle, spazz out, and crash out. but you will also yearn and swoon over these characters

“diamonds” is a book about addiction, doing things just out of the good of your heart, being there for someone, hoping someone would see how much you’re struggling, abandonment, trauma, building trust, falling without realizing, and mental health representation 🖤 go into this book with an open mind and understanding the struggles a person with addictions go through and the small unnoticeable selfless acts given from someone.

🪞 lawyer x widow
💎 alcohol abuse
🪞 arranged marriage
💎 forced proximity
🪞 childhood trauma
💎 lots of teasing
🪞 push and pull
💎 dual pov
🪞 book four in series

ever since the death of valentina’s late husband, cillian, she only spiraled downhill. she was never in love with him but she did rely on him for many things. the most important one is his money to pay for her mother’s medical treatments. with that gone, valentina went straight to the bottle for support and to numb the stress of having to deal with reality. she became a shell of a person, scrapping every last cent just to have enough to buy a bottle. max gave her many chances but he had enough of watching her drown herself. so when he has the holds on cillian’s will, he gave valentina the choice to stay sober for a month and attend meetings, then he would give her the money cillian left her.

but when she stumbled out of the liquor store with no money to her name and begging for a bottle with a cigarette on top of that, she meets marco 🥹 he’s the nonchalant, professional lawyer who was dragged to nyc to help his colleagues max and remy. it was just supposed to be to be a simply trip and then he’s off back to d.c. where he follows through with his own physical therapy and business. but he can’t bring it to himself to leave. he never can. whenever someone needs him, he’s always there. he just helps people because there was nowhere there to help him when he was younger. he stays because no one in his life ever did. so when he meets valentina, he has a secret he wishes she never finds out. he tried to distance himself so she wouldn’t truly know him but when someone mentions his enemy to an arranged marriage with her … every perfectly planned and organized element completely switches 😳

marco and valentina are both so stubborn and constantly bicker. their moments together consist of banter and turning every conversation into an argument. they are two completely different people but at the same time similar in so many ways. marco stays and wishes someone would do the same for him. valentina always ran at the first chance she gets. they can pretend all they want that there’s nothing between them, but when they notice things about each other that no one else does, that’s when they realize how deep they truly go 🩶

everything about this book hit me in my core. the moment i started reading i just knew i would relate to both marco and valentina. i felt their struggles so deep in my soul. i felt their cry for help. i felt their loneliness. i felt THEM. these two will forever be my favorites. this is a story about them. and this is a story about the struggles they went through that many people in the real world do as well 🫀

This was a hard read not going to lie, there was zero chemistry and absolutely no point to the story.

I struggled to get through it so bad it was very boring. Gutted because I loved all the other 3 and have re read them.

I got to 20% and was going to DNF but forced to finish but wasn’t worth it :(

ARC REVIEW — Diamonds by Kyra Irene

Thank you so much for the early copy, you don’t know how excited I’ve been for this.

The only way to talk about this book is to set the tone straight: it left me crying. I have never been so genuinely happy that a book couple got their happy ending than I was when Val and Marco got theirs.

This book was perfect - emotional, raw, and deep. There isn’t much I can say except that I truly, wholeheartedly loved it.

Valentina had lost her “husband,” Cillian, and fell into despair. She was drinking, out of control, and rumours swirled that she was sneaking into bed with the enemy. Naturally, the men of the Outfit needed to keep her in line, Valentina was told she wouldn’t receive her inheritance from Cillian’s passing unless she got clean and proved she could be trusted again.

Yet Valentina couldn’t stop herself, couldn’t shake the addiction. Her mother needed expensive treatment, and no one had the money. The only one who could bring in serious cash was, of course, Valentina.

Marco, on the other hand, was the hot‑shot lawyer who never wanted to get tangled up with the Outfit… until one fateful night changed everything. When he got a call with an offer he couldn’t refuse - because of his own choices - he took the job, working alongside Max… and continuously bumping into a struggling Valentina.

So what happens when a lawyer who wants nothing to do with anyone meets a woman who can’t stay out of anyone’s business?

“I reached into my bag, pushing past the lipstick and the crumpled old receipt, until I found what I was looking for. A single wrinkled dollar bill. I pulled it out and held it between two fingers, resting my elbow on the conference table. ‘I know it’s not your usual rate,’ I said, embarrassed, ‘but I could really use some help.’ Marco glanced at the bill, then at me.”

Will she keep drinking and burying herself in a deeper hole?

“Her lips parted slightly, but she didn’t step away. I was disappointed in her. I’d thought she was serious about staying sober. Guess not. ‘Hurry—go tell Max before I can get away.’”

Or will two imperfect people be forced face‑to‑face in a situation neither of them ever expected?

“Did that disappoint you?” I wondered. “You like your women helpless?”

“Helpless isn’t my type. Mouthy little liars though? Apparently, I’ve got a weakness.”

If it isn’t already, Diamonds should be on your radar, because this book takes you on a rollercoaster that might just be the wildest ride yet. 💎

“I didn’t fall in love with you the way people say it happens. It wasn’t soft. It wasn’t slow. It was inconvenient and loud and brutal. It was terrifying. You got under my skin like a splinter, and every time I tried to ignore it, you pushed deeper. And I let you.”

Y'ALL ARE NOT READY FOR THIS ONE.

When I tell you, I was hooked and literally obsessed, trust me. I was in a slump before this and entered one right after this one because I simply couldn't get over Valentina and Marco. I remember the first time I read Clubs, i was literally so obsessed with Mikhail and Sloane and thought no other couple could surpass them. Trust me, Kyra proved me wrong, because Marco and Valentina had me in a chokehold, and I can't get over them.

The best way to describe Diamonds is that it was healing. I cried with them, I laughed with and at them, I swooned, I felt frustrated, I wanted to throw my kindle across the room, and all i can say is be prepared to feel all types of emotions because that’s how it had me.

Marco was everything. This man honestly had me ugly crying at 4am because of what he went through. His backstory pulled at my heartstrings. He went through so much that he became cold, distant and even aloof. But we all know that's not the case when he's with Valentina because this man slowly became obsessed with her to the point where he couldn't live with her.
He thought he was nonchalant until he became jealous and found himself going out of his way and comfort zone to make sure she's happy. He did everything he could just to see her smile and be happy.
It was heartwarming to see him heal after everything he was put through and to even find solace in coming home to Valentina and just being in her presence. He finally got the family he always yearned for, which loved him and could never leave him.

Valentina my sweet darling, she literally had me obsessing over her. She was so realistic and honestly it broke my heart reading her story because it hit close to home. I love the way Kyra did it because we get to see the struggles of addiction, not just the quitting but also the withdrawals and how stressful it can be when it feels like people around you constantly doubt and judge you. She honestly made me cry a couple of times because at times she felt so misunderstood but no one knew how bad she struggled.
I love how family orientated she was, all she wanted was for her family to be happy, for her mother and sister to be proud of her and for her niece to look up to her as a good example.
And the way she was always there for Marco, whether it was with her constantly yapping or her just being silent, it meant a lot to Marco. She helped him become the better version of himself and even heal from all the traumas he faced. She deserved her happy ending.

These two were everything to me. The banter and constant bickering between them always kept me going. It's what made them THEM. Their love and adoration was gentle. It's like they were the missing parts of each other's puzzle and finally they completed each other, making each other feel safe and secure.

The epilogue honestly had me in my feels. I read it days after finishing this book and it made me sob. I thought i had moved on from it but i definitely was proved wrong because the moment i finished reading it, i was back to the drawing board and can confirm that this book and these two have engraved themselves deep in my heart, securing a safe spot because I absolutely treasure them.

Thank you so much Kyra for being patient with me and letting me beta read this masterpiece. As i said earlier, be prepared to fall in love with these two because you won't believe what hit you once you get this in your hands!

I read this book out of order *gasp* (I know), but I was so pleasantly surprised by this series. I'm not a dark romance girl, typically. However, Valentina (FMC) and Marco (MMC) kept me on the edge of my seat the entire book.

I did feel like the beginning was a bit hard for me because I felt as confused as Valentina did with her life. Widowed, alone, and struggling with addiction problems, I felt like each chapter was just a scatterbrain of thoughts until Marco came in. Once he did, everything clicked for me. The motivation, the reasons why they fought for each other (even if they hated one another), the battles they each had, were felt so intensely. The plot was good without being too gruesome, and Valentina's journey was an emotional rollercoaster for me. I'm hoping that in the future, she gets more substance to her ending

Ugh i loved their banter, i didnt think anyone couldve been better than max and rosalie BUT THEY DID THAT😭😭

Marco and valentina were both so full of depth to their character. I wouldve loved to see the take of relapsing since it is realistic to addiction, but i still loved the way valentina’s struggles were shown, however i also wouldve loved a little more of marco’s trauma being talked about.

But the way the author went about it was still beautiful, Marco coming to the realisation that he is way beyond the meaning of his trauma by himself was still amazing. And valentina too, it was just a silent mutual way of both helping each other better themselves and to be better by reaching it themselves.

However the unresolved tension of the plot with the brothers was weird, almost seems like the author is planning something…🤨🤨🤨
